Came her for a work dinner on a Tuesday. There were 9 of us, and I was able to make the reservation the day of with no issues. Several of us arrived early (and we had added a person between the reservation to the dinner time) but the restaurant was able to accommodate us with no issues and we were seated immediately! Plenty of street parking too around that time nearby. The restaurant was not crowded at that time, and overall quiet enough to encourage normal volume conversation. The waitress who served us was extremely great, very accommodating, giving us recs, and doing a great job keeping all our information organized. We ordered drinks, some appetizers, and several rounds of food. The starters came out a bit slow, but soon when all our entrees were out it was a ton of food! We also asked the waitress if she could just choose rolls for us with a given budget, and she did a great job! Everything tasted great. Overall great service and good food! This place had pretty good tuna tartare-- the fish seemed fresh in the sauces had just the right amount. The ribeye appetizer was a little fatty in some bites, but overall tested good. Their selection of sushi had all the common rolls (California, Philadelphia, Dragon, etc), but nothing unique that separates it apart from other sushi restaurants. I ordered a few of their sushi rolls, and they were just OK. The sushi rice wasn't very flavorful, and the eel slices were more skin than meat. Overall, the food had better appetizers than rolls. The rolls are definitely better than grocery store sushi, but not the best I've ever had... just average. The servers were attentive and the food came out within 15 minutes. The crispy rice is like what I imagine a Japanese spin on tator tots is. Just perfectly crispy and delish and has a kick. And then we tried the wagyu. Oh my word. If you're looking for sushi, sashimi, nigiri, and other great dishes like noodles, katsu, and teriyaki-based plates...you're in the right place. We had a group of eight and had the best time. Their drinks were delicious. I tried the Lychee Martini with Absolut Citron, Lychee juice, Lychee Liqueur- it was sweet and refreshing. I also tried the Ginger Honey Saketini- Premium Sake, Ginger, Honey, Fresh Lemon, and Splash of Prosecco. That was one of my favorites. I would also recommend the Plum Cosmo. Make sure to try the Tuna Sandwich- Fresh tuna, masago, crunchy & Japanese mayonnaise between sushi rice & soy nori. YUM! Another hit was the Lollipop Shrimp- four pieces of shrimp on a stick, breaded with panko and garlic mayonnaise. Great presentation too! Also the Rib Eye Steak Negimaki- grilled scallion rolled with thin sliced rib eye. Don't miss that one! Great Japanese spot. The restaurant has a calm atmosphere with lighting that is dim enough to be relaxing but not so dim that it becomes hard to see. Service was excellent and all our food came in a timely manor. We had some very nice sake with our meal as well. We tried the spicy edamame and the rock shrimp tempura to start. The spicy edamame was good, not too spicy and a plenty large portion, more than enough for 2 people. The rock shrimp tempura was great, well fried tempura rock shrimps in a sweet tangy sauce. For our entrees we got an assortment of a la cart nigiri as well as the rock n roll. The roll was very good but the nigiri was the real star of the show. Amazingly tender and slightly sweet escolar, rich salmon, and wonderful tuna as well. If you like mackerel be sure to try it here as well. The otoro nigiri was slightly less fatty than what I usually expect when orders ring otoro it looked more like chutoro. However despite its looks, it was wonderfully rich and savory with that signature otoro melt in your mouth texture. Our first time in didn't particularly make us want to come back, but so many told us how it must have just been a really off night. After a second go, I will say that I can see why Miso has planted itself to be a New Haven staple for sushi. The restaurant itself has a nice, slightly dressed up but mostly casual vibe. The sushi and other dishes are what you'd expect from a good sushi restaurant. Also not pictured here, we tried the wagyu beef special and it was some very good quality wagyu. One of the better sushi places in New Haven! I went here with my friends and we were immediately seated. However, it took a while for the waitress to come back to our table to take our orders (which is why I took off a star, otherwise, it would be a 5 star review). I wasn't that hungry when I first came here, but I was starving by the time the food came, which I guess is a good thing. For drinks, I ordered the lychee martini. I personally didn't like it as I'm someone who likes very sweet drinks and this drink still has a slight bitter taste. One of my friends ordered the Volcano and that was delicious. I didn't taste any alcohol; it just tasted like juice. Although it's for two people, I could easily drink the whole thing myself. I also tasted my other friend's honey ginger drink and that was also delicious. It felt like a warm hug in a cocktail. For sushi, I ordered the Bulldog and it was very yummy! The fish was fresh and the rice was warm. As you can see from the picture, the chef definitely put effort to ensure that all of the food not only tastes good, but also looks good. After my first roll, I was full (the portions are good!) but because it was so yummy, I also ordered another roll: the New Haven roll. By the end of the meal, I was stuffed, but so happy. We enjoyed everything we tried including the Shrimp and Crab Sushi Rolls, the Tuna Sandwich appetizer, their beautiful fresh sashimi & fresh fluke flowers, and the fried crab sticks.
