This place is in a super convenient location right in the middle of the Rockville Town Center where you can find many other local favorites right next door. The half soy and half spicy chicken wings is what I always order from here. Always fresh and delicious with a crispy crunch like none other. Having this location here in Rockville is such a plus. Seating is quaint and quite close to others but ordering to-go for me has always been my choice. Parking is only a half a block away near Trader Joes, and the street is mainly blocked off for pedestrians so it has easy access. The clay pot bulgogi rice dish is also quite good here too. I had a very disappointing experience at Bonchon the other night. I checked the restaurant's posted hours online and saw that the kitchen was accepting orders until 9:45 PM. I was busy earlier in the evening, but I specifically made sure I could arrive before that time. I walked into the restaurant at approximately 9:31 PM and was immediately told that the kitchen was closed and that I could not place an order. I was confused because it was still 14 minutes before the posted kitchen closing time. I calmly asked about it, and the employee confirmed that they were closed. I left the restaurant around 9:32 PM and went back to my car to find somewhere else to eat. Then, while sitting in my car, I watched another woman walk into the restaurant. I could see through the window that she was being assisted, so I waited because I wanted to understand what was happening. I then saw the employee provide her with a receipt. I went back inside and asked for clarification. The customer had entered approximately 9:37 PM, five minutes after I had been told that the kitchen was closed, and she was allowed to place an order. At that point, I was understandably frustrated. I was not belligerent, disrespectful, or disruptive when I initially came into the restaurant. I simply walked in, attempted to order food, was told the kitchen was closed, and left. I did not demand special treatment. I did not argue with anyone. I accepted what I was told and went to my car. What made the situation particularly concerning was that I am a Black woman, while the customer who entered afterward was a lighter-skinned woman who did not appear to be Black, and she was allowed to order after I had specifically been told that no orders could be taken. When I returned inside, the employee said that she could explain what happened. At that point, I declined because the issue was no longer whether the kitchen was technically "closed." The issue was that I had been denied the opportunity to order at 9:31 PM, while another customer was allowed to order at approximately 9:37 PM. I have video documenting the interaction, including the timestamp, and I intend to share it with corporate because I would like an explanation for the difference in treatment. If the kitchen actually stops accepting orders before the advertised time, the posted hours should be corrected. If exceptions are being made for certain customers, that needs to be addressed as well. I am disappointed because I was simply trying to purchase dinner and expected to receive the same level of service as anyone else who walked through the door. I hope management takes this seriously and looks into what happened. read more

Bonchon is a solid choice for korean fried chicken. Not all locations are created equal but I like the one. There's indoor and outdoor seating. I found a nearby parking spot but there's several parking garages. I placed an online order and it was ready when I arrived. Woot! The service was good. I did 8 wings - half n half (soy garlic and spicy). Be warned, the spicy is hot so if you can't handle heat don't do it. I like it hot. I wish there was an option for 6, 12, 18 wings. We have ordered carry out or delivery from here on so many occasions and loved it. We usually order chicken wings and fries. It is consistently hot and fresh. We dined in for the first time and yes the chicken wings and fries were again crispy and fried perfectly. My biggest complaint was the pork belly kimchee fried rice. Do you remember the Wendy's commercial, "Where's the beef?" In this case, Where's the pork? When we asked the manager she pointed to the tiniest piece of pink piece of something. Decided to go here with the family for dinner. We were a party of 9 and got seated right away since it wasn't too busy. The place isn't too big but I like it. The service is good. At the beginning they probably forgot about us but they started checking in more often to make sure we had everything we needed. My husband and his nephews ordered at least 60 chicken wings (half and half), japchae, seasoned french fries, sesame ginger salad, and takoyaki. We tried to order udon but they said they don't have it anymore. Could not pass up a chance to get takeaway during their 10-year anniversary promotion. On the day I went, the deal was 10 signature drumsticks (spicy or garlic soy) for $10. Only 1 order per person. The person who took my order over the phone was very professional, and even apologetic that the wait time for the chicken would be 30-40 minutes. Not a problem, I reassured. To my pleasant surprise, the order came out sooner than anticipated. The chicken legs (though double fried) were not too oily, nor were they overcooked. The chicken was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and very flavorful. The Bulgogi fries were sweet, savory, and crispy! The service was pretty slow even though it was 3 pm on a weekday and was not during lunch or dinner rush. You've all probably tried the excellent friend chicken at Bonchon, but let me use this opportunity to praise their bi-bim-bap and friend rice. Bonchon occasionally adds a few non-chicken menu items to change things up, and I think they're pretty good. The tofu bi-bim-bap has all the textures and flavors you'd expect from a good bowl, crispy fresh vegetables, warm rice, spicy sauce. The shrimp fried rice had plenty of large, plump shrimp and lots of flavor, not bland or salty. So if you're not feeling the chicken, get the bi-bim-bap or the fried rice. Mix it up! read more

My bibimbap was a huge portion (I had an entire lunch for the next day) but had little Bulgogi, which is absolutely what I was most excited about (so that was disappointing). It's been a minute since I've written an updated Yelp review, but given that I've had Bonchon a handful of times throughout the pandemic, I figured it was time for an update. The last time I wrote this Yelp review was over five years ago, which was the first time I ever dined at Bonchon. And silly me, I had no idea that when you go to Bonchon, the place of the Korean fried chicken, that you're supposed to order the fried chicken! *insert scream emoji here* I have learned my lesson and we have gotten our Bonchon order down. I've tried the strips, the wings, the drumsticks, the combo -- all of it (even "sweet crunch" back when that was a thing). Soy garlic wings all the way - extra saucy! My family also likes to order the spicy strips (but I don't do spicy, so more for them). This Bonchon has consistently gotten our order of extra saucy chicken down, so five stars for flavor and dependability. The super saucy soy garlic goes perfectly with an order of rice. And between the regular fries and the seasoned fries, paying extra for the extra salty, cheesy goodness is totally worth it. Since the pandemic, we've been ordering it to-go and for the most part, the chicken has stayed crispy even with the travel time. Rarely is it soggy unless it's hanging out in the sealed box too long. It was very warm in the restaurant and by the end of the meal it wasn't pleasant to be inside. Our servers were great. The food was not. Please do not order the corn cheese app, as it was about a half a cup of corn sprinkled with seasonings and not worth the 4.99 they charged for it. The same applied to the Bulgogi fries in the sense that one would expect more for 14.99 - it ended being a rather average basket of fries with a small amount of bulgogi and toppings. The udon soup one of us ordered managed to be salty and flavorless at the same time. The chicken strips were OK, but a bit over fried. I have had consistently good experiences at this (Rockville) location! I did not realize that different locations could end their lunch specials at different times until I went to place an order at the new Kentlands (Gaithersburg) location (because parking would be slightly easier there) and noticed that they stopped lunch earlier. It may not seem like a big deal, but when juggling work and other things, sometimes a little extra time to get a late lunch makes a big difference to a person. Especially if I am dining solo, the lunch specials are the perfect portion with a side order of rice or fries. Rockville is not offering dine in as of the beginning of November, but Gibbs street has been closed for months to allow for outdoor dining if you aren't just looking to take your order to-go. I have tried other locations, including the one at Columbia Mall, and over-all while I have not had any bad experiences, I would say Rockville is consistently the best :) read more

As of June 2020- they are open for takeout. Decided to give this place a try as I haven't had bonchon in a while. Normally come here for their Korean fried chicken. There are two types of chicken they sell which are wings and drums. You can order a combo of both. I went ahead and ordered a large order of wings. The wings come out nice and crispy. The two flavors they have are soy garlic and spicy. If you are sensitive to spicy, it might be too tough for you to handle. The soy garlic is a more popular choice as it gives a slightly sweet and salty flavor. It also came with a choice of Cole slaw and or radish as a side with your order. The reason for a 1 less star is that the boxes (food packaging) need work / improvement. My order came with two boxes (due to separating spicy and soy garlic). However, the boxes were stacked together causing the bottom box is slightly break. If it stayed in the box longer, it would have cause the packaging to tear further. Maybe consider alternative packaging. However, the food was still good. If you are in the mood for Korean fried chicken, this is a good place to check out. The only reason for two stars is the very nice, though extremely confused server we had. We walked in and it smelled like cleaning solution. Not a complete dealbreaker since that means a place is clean, right? We're seated right away and my husband orders a "Seoul Sunset." We ordered a small boneless wings half and half with soy garlic and sweet crunch and an order of tteokbokki-which is one of my favorite Korean street foods. The tteokbokki dish came first. I immediately asked about the kimari that it was advertised to have which was not apparent on the dish. I was told, they decided not to sell it anymore but hadn't taken it off the menu. Right. The menu also didn't mention that the dish was mostly japchae noodles with maybe 10 pieces of rice cake!! It was the worst Tteokbokki I've ever eaten. Next came the chicken. Were they running out of sauce in the kitchen?? It look like they squirted a little sauce on it but it was so dry. The people next to us sent their plates back to the kitchen to put sauce on theirs. The only thing I would get here is the fried chicken, fries, and salmon avocado rice ball. My friends and I tried the spicy rice cake but other korean restaurants do it better. We also tried the fried rice which isn't anything special. Compared to other Bon Chon location, this is my least favorite. Came here for dinner with the fam, and ordered the Takoyaki, Pork Buns, and 30 Chicken Wings. The Pork Buns and Takoyaki were decent appetizers. Nothing spectacular about them, but Bonchon isn't really known for anything else besides their fried chicken. The buns on the pork bun was soft, and the pork was tender. However, the takoyaki was bit bland tasting. Usually there's a wait for the chicken to be finished cooking, but since there were only two groups in the restaurant, it came out rather quickly. Ordered some fried chicken to go after a long day at work. I got a 6 wings + 3 drumsticks combo with half being sweet crunchy and the other half being soy garlic. I like how Bonchon often uses a paper to divide the flavors in the boxes, so the flavors do not become just one weird flavor. I believe the sweet crunchy is a new flavor, so I tried it for the first time. Honestly, I did not like it. I wished I had stuck with just soy garlic. The sweet crunchy flavor had a mild, questionable flavor. I could not pinpoint what ingredients were used to make the sweet crunchy sauce, and I do not like eating what I don't know, so I ended up eating all of the sweet crunchy first before eating the soy garlic. Also you get a choice of pickled radish or coleslaw. My personal favorite is the pickled radish just because I love how it contrasts with the savory and meaty taste of the chicken. With many choices all around, it's great you can opt for Korean. Especially since BWW is down the way is likely busier but I wouldn't exactly call it a chicken restaurant. Before I could take a sip of my Beer, my 10 Wing half and half came out piping hot. To heck with those sugary radish cubes that are an ever present accompaniment. Yuengling is all you need. If you don't think the chicken here is good...a young couple sporting matching headphones tees and shorts, could have been twin boy and girl, 20 somethings. I suppose they were on some fancy blue tooth that allowed them to talk between silver ear covering headphones. Because they were actively chatting. That is before the mountain of grub showed up.
