Nachos half order with Cincinnati and vegetarian chili
    Susy P.

This place is consistently good at a reasonable price. We went on a Friday night and they had a band there so that's the first time we were able to listen to music. We ordered the chicken sandwich with bacon, onion rings, wings, and nachos with Cincinnati and vegetarian chili. Everything was excellent, perfect flavors and the jalapeños on the notches were not too hot. I would also say everything was very fresh. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. We definitely will be back.

It's been a long time since we have been here. The service was terrific. It's a casual neighborhood hangout. I wished I liked the Chili Mac more but it was just ok. The Jalapeno Pepper Popper was good with a dipping sauce. The Sante Fe Eggrolls could be a little more crispier. The Grilled Wings (original Texas) were delicious. We would return just for the grilled wings.

As always, the Rockville Hard Times Cafe is great! Our group of 6 was seated immediately even though it's the lunch hour. Drinks hit the table as fast as we could ask for them. Apps came out almost as fast, with perfectly done meals soon after. I prefer a modified Frito Chili Pie, with beans instead of sour cream or tomatoes, with the Texas chili. Definitely the best chili in the DC area, if not the whole state!

We love hard times!!! Fantastic chili--the best in the area for sure. Delicious options, good prices, casual environment, good service. I always get the 5-way with vegetarian chili with the delicious cornbread they make. Go to Carmen's next door for dessert!

    Southwest Burger

I tried the chili and the Southwest burger -- overall a solid meal with a few notes. The **chili had a rich, smoky flavor** that I really enjoyed. I would have preferred the beef to be a bit chunkier for that classic Texas-style texture. Traditionally, Texas chili doesn't include **tomatoes or beans**, but I added beans to mine, and I'm glad I did -- it helped balance out the saltiness, which was just a bit on the heavy side. The **Southwest burger** was fine -- nothing to complain about, but also nothing particularly memorable. Just your standard burger. I'd come back for the chili, especially with a few tweaks. Good atmosphere and service, too.

A line began forming about 6:30 PM.

How many restaurants have you known that have closed for ELEVEN months...and actually reopened?? Maybe not any. But Hard Times Café in Rockville did exactly that! After plumbing problems and landlord negotiations, Hard Times reopened yesterday. And except for the fact that there are no pictures on the walls...it's like they never left! They rearranged the seating a little, same booths, same plates and glassware. We got there early, about 5:30, and were seated immediately When we left an hour later, a line was just beginning to form. The menu is identical (maybe the prices are a little higher [but not much, I don't think]) The grilled Texas wings tasted the same as I remember them. My son's girlfriend (a chef) said the burger was perfect. I'm glad they're back!

    Steak quesadilla.

My steak quesadilla was delicious. My husband had a burger that was ok. Next time he will order the wings again - they are the best. The children had Mac and cheese and a hotdog with fries and they both enjoyed their meals. The hostess was friendly and accommodating. She gave us a great booth next to the front window. The waitress was brisk and very to the point. Atmosphere is cozy. I would have given a 5 but this time the waitress was not friendly or service oriented. Maybe there wasn't enough help but the first time he went to this restaurant our service was impeccable.

If you want some tasty homemade chili, check out Hard Times Cafe. I heard about this spot through a friend and as we know, we don't gate-keep here. It was a perfect chilly weather day too. There are so many good options on the menu, we wanted to order it all. We started with the jalapeño poppers, and loaded chili fries. Can't go wrong with either. Our choice of chili for these were the Texas and Cincinnati chili. These were amazing. For the entrees we got a Hard Times Chili dog with Texas chili because it was a hit. The highlight of the meal was the 4-Way Chili Mac with Cincinnati chili. This was so good! Don't get it twisted when you see it has spaghetti noodles. It is chefs kiss and perfect with the Cincinnati chili. For the sweet tea lovers, they do have yummy sweet tea. You know you can't find sweet tea (without the sugar packets easily up North) so chase your food down with some refreshing sweet tea. Staff is friendly and service is quick! We will be back to try more chili items!

First glance, seems like a small and old pub with food. But head inside ans take a second glance... the staff takes great care of you, and the prices are fair and the food is very good... Loved the salmon salad. No happy hour. But prices are good!

They have a bunch of flavors available: we settled on the buffalo and dry lemon pepper wings. We supplemented that with a vodka soda (we're walking). The ambiance was electric with music playing in the background and folks arriving and descending upstairs, where the real action is. The wings arrived and they were cooked perfectly: hot, crispy, fresh, with the right amount of seasonings. So glad we decided to drop in. Note: This is an LGBTQ friendly environment. After enjoying the wings, we decided to take a peek upstairs as the constant traffic going up there intrigued us. As we made our way in this space, there was a large dance floor with bar table and chairs around the perimeter and a bar at the front. There was also an outdoor area where you could overlook the street and enjoy your drink or food. The music was full blast and enjoyable to listen to. All in all, go for the wings you won't be disappointed, but stay for the vibes if that's your thing. I will be back for those wings AND that vibe!

High energy, packed, and pure joy. This is the kind of space where strangers turn into friends in minutes. I met some amazing people and had those spontaneous conversations that make a trip unforgettable. It's lively without feeling overwhelming; just celebration, laughter, and good vibes flowing through the room. If you're in DC and want a space that feels inclusive, energetic, and unapologetically fun, Nellie's delivers. Two different vibes in one night; both beautiful in their own way.

Thankfully, we stumbled upon Joe Theismann's Restaurant because there was a heat wave, and we didn't want to spend any more time outside than necessary. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted, seated right away, and given menus. Our waitress introduced herself, offered recommendations for appetizers and entrées, and even convinced us to try one of their signature drinks. We started with the Broiled Chesapeake Crab Dip, and it was really tasty. It was rich and cheesy, with generous chunks of crab throughout. It was so good that we easily could have ordered another bowl! For our entrée, we shared the Chicken Louisiana. It had chicken, sausage, and shrimp with peppers and onions in a Cajun sauce served over rice. Now this dish was really delicious. It arrived hot and tasted freshly made to order. We even noticed the table next to us ordered the same thing. I can't remember the exact name of the martini I ordered, but it was very light and refreshing and perfect for a hot summer day. The restaurant itself is spacious, with a large bar, plenty of seating, and TVs throughout. Overall, we had a good dining experience. Whenever we're back in the D.C. area, we'll definitely make a point to stop by again.

Food is OK quality and prices are reasonable if not inexpensive on their specials, like the steak and ribs for only $25. Good flavor and cooked ok but a nice combo for the price. Service is OK with some wait staff being more efficient than others. There were some who knew their customers by name and took time out to talk with them but that slowed down service a little for the rest of us. Nothing too bad but you might wait a bit for refills or something you need after your food or drinks arrive. We had cool fries and it took a bit for the staff to come back to our table to check in the dining room. Similar response time for wait staff outside when we needed condiments that were ordered but didn't come out with our entrees. Cigar menu is an ok selection where there is something for everyone; however, our experience was the place ran out of the first four cigars we selected and each time the wait staff had to come back to our table to tell us they were out of that cigar. Wait staff didn't know what cigars were in stock and which they were out of. Overall, very good experience for both inside the dining area and outside where you can smoke. Recommend The Bungalow Lakehouse as it is a good experience and has a variety of experience options.

The choices were: outside, the sports bar, or the dining room. We chose the dining room. A large group of people was sitting at a table. We were given a booth by the window and right by the server's station. Looking over the menu at home, we both decided that we would get a bacon cheeseburger. The entrees seemed, to us, to be too filling. The bacon cheeseburger consists of: "100% angus burger, apple-wood smoked bacon, vermont white cheddar, canadian cheddar, sliced tomato, and crispy leaf lettuce". We both ordered it cooked medium. The dish comes with fries. To drink, I had ginger ale while my husband had a Heineken 00. Our server was friendly and efficient. He made a mistake, bringing my husband a Coke instead of the beer. My husband corrected him. He apologized and retrieved the correct drink. The burger was dry and overcooked. It was more on the medium well side. In one way, I didn't mind that as I didn't end up with greasy hands or a burger that falls apart. The bacon and the cheese provided some relief from the dryness. The fries came out hot, which we appreciated. All in all, it was an OK experience; we would consider going again sometime.
