I have gotten their spicy flavor wings several times. Sometimes the meat would be a little dry and overcooked, but the past two times have been great. I do wish it's bit more juicy. I always ask for an extra coating of sauce. Wings are big (unlike the tiny ones you would see in typical wing places). Their 20 pieces average out to the best bang for the buck. If you want to pay for a double serving of bulgogi in your jhap chae only to find out after you've driven home that there wasn't even enough meat for a regular serving, then this is the place to go. Called the restaurant after we got home asking them to refund the cost of the extra serving of meat, got a call an hour later from the manager saying that he spoke to the chef and the chef said he put in the extra meat. So I'm randomly lying over $4.95? I regret not taking a picture more than I regret the tip I left when I ordered. Definitely will never go back. Bonchon has increased their prices and decreased the sizes of their chicken so now paying more for less food. Smaller drumsticks. "Wings" are now small drummettes and small wings. It's like they took a regular sized wing and cut it in half. So you get "more" pieces but the quantity of wings is actually less than before. We were not happy with our food. I ordered chicken wings, 1/2 sweet and crunchy and 1/2 spicy: first, we couldn't tell the difference between the 2, and NEITHER. had much flavor. They were well cooked, but really needed salt, spice and flavor! The fries were tasty, needed salt (but cold) so we warmed them in the oven. The Takoyaki? were really.... awful. The texture was goopy, the taste was not in any way harmonious and the octopus was tough. We found it actually disgusting. We spit it out. It was really bad. They charge for ranch and I thought that was weird being that they sell wings and usually ranch is complimentary esp if it's the only sauce you ask for. Been waiting for Bon Chon to open in the East Bay since I am a big fan of their wings in NY. This location is in a strip mall in San Leandro. The sign says they are still in a soft opening. The restaurant was busy and everyone looked happy to be there. I took my 10 piece soy garlic wings home. And loved them. We have been waiting for Bonchon to open for the longest! I've heard about Bonchon through friends and have been wanting to go try it out, but never had the time to make the trip for it. Anyways, I heard about the soft opening and knew that we had to go ASAP to see how good this was, from what everybody kept telling us. Upon arriving, there were 2 other couples ahead of us. There were a few seats opened, but we had to wait to be seated. Getting seated went pretty quick. It took a bit for the waiter to get to us to take our order (it seems like they are not fully staffed with waiters/waitresses). He finally came to take our order and it went smoothly. Took about 30 minutes for our food to get to us. We order the combo chicken, Japchae and Takoyaki. The chicken was fire! It has got to be the best Korean fried chicken I have ever tasted. That crispy crunch you get once you bite into the chicken was just amazing! The takoyaki was good and the japchae could've been better (not worth the price in our opinion). I recently ordered from them because I wanted to give them another chance (the first time was awful). Unfortunately, not much improvement. Here's my issue: 1) The chicken legs were grossly huge. I joke that they look like turkey legs, not the naturally raised chicken. Obviously, they were not normal but used hormones. 2) The two legs I ate were not fully cooked (see the two pictures). I didn't realize at the time because I was too hungry and didn't pay attention but realized afterward. The blood was still intact. Yesterday I decided to try it because I figured it must be pretty good as it survived the pandemic. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. I decided to order takeout from Bonchon when I had a group of friends over for dinner. There were about 8 of us so I ordered 30 wings, thinking it was enough for our group. I've been to Bonchon in Berkeley and San Mateo many times and the wings are always whole wings and the drumsticks are a really good size as well. I don't know if it's this location specifically or now standard across all Bonchons but the high prices are the same BUT they have downgraded the chicken to party wings... I was definitely taken aback when I brought it home and thought I ordered the wrong thing. To be honest, I wish I read the reviews beforehand so I could make sure I bought enough food for all my friends. I've seen the copy and paste response Bonchon has for the other folks that have reviewed similarly and pointing out this change in quality and will be rolling my eyes if I get that same response. Usually Bonchon are a hit or miss for me as I been to 4 locations. This one happened to be a hit as the chicken we ordered was pretty good as it was nice and juicy and the pieces were bigger. Some of the locations sell smaller pieces of chicken or recook the chicken to save money. We ordered other like the soft tacos, pork buns, and sliders as well. lets see here the crisp chicken sliders were not bad as the meat was white and not dry. The bugolgi was pretty good as well. I did not care too much for the tacos. The coleslaw was great as well. The service was pretty good and had some tvs for entertainment. The prices be prepare to spend a lot, we did around $25 dollars a head, but we did get spend a lot. read more

We came in with a group of 5 people on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait long to be seated. Our waiter, Minh, was awesome! He was very friendly and helpful. He was a whole vibe! Only reason I'm writing this review is because of how great the service was because of him! He recommended us some drinks to get and suggest we order the fried rice to share family style instead of ordering single bowls of white rice for each person. He came to our table to check on us and made sure we were good. There was a homeless man that came into the restaurant and was going around to each table asking for change. It's a full wing came attached with the little drum. So it's more like 10 pieces of wings. Each piece is like two I guess. Dish came with some pickled radish. Tteokbokki- Definitely not what I was expecting. I thought this was going to be a spicy rice cake dish, but it was not spicy at all and not as flavorful as I was hoping. The sauce was very thin and soupy. I thought it was going to be a spicy thick sauce dish. Definitely do not recommend getting this. There was cheese and some seaweed fried tteokbokki on top too. Try calling the restaurant no one answered and then call grub hub to file a complain, they credited me $12.07. I ended up eating cup of noodle since not enough for family of 3. When we arrived home and opened the box, the chicken merely fit in the box, and the presentation did not look very appealing. The food is really good and simple. I like spicy fried chicken, both drumsticks and wings. I typically get a large, mixed combination and no sides, except for the daikon. I didn't really notice it till this last time. We ordered a 24 piece boneless wings and they gave us small wings In general. About 2/3s the size of Wingstop's boneless wings. Within the plate there were about 8 pieces of "wings" the size of a nickel. It's tucked away in a corner of the shopping center that makes it a little hard to find, so maybe that's the reason we were seated right away and it wasn't too busy. Double fried chicken is one of life's pleasures! :) Bonchon's KFC is crispy and moist, not heavily breaded and dry as a lot of fried chicken I've tried lately. And if you like spicy, the spicy is truly spicy, not overly so though, so don't be discouraged. I like to have both the spicy and soy garlic combination, so we can get the best of both worlds. We've tried other food here as well, the seasoned fries (get it), the Japchae (meh), and the tacos (just okay). I would stick with the fries and the KFC. The kimchi side is very small for the price so I wouldn't order it again. A Medium portion is good for two people if you want to take some leftovers home. I've also pre-ordered here for a party and they had it ready for pick up at the appointed time. Parking in this lot can get tricky when during peak time but there's plenty of street parking on Hays St. We will definitely be back here. read more

However, after ordering the second time, it became apparent that all of the food is pretty similar and all of it is pretty sweet. So, don't come here for variety. The chicken strips were a little dry, the tacos were served with an uncooked flour tortilla... While the saucy meat with the coleslaw is nice, there is really no relief from the sweetness nor variety in their seasoning from dish to dish. I had the Korean tacos, the sliders, and the chicken, and as I said, all of it was sweet. There was nothing to eat to relieve me from all the sweetness. Also, everything tasted pretty much the same, simply with different vessels to hold it.
