We went to Bonefish Grille, in Venice FL, with some friends on a crowded Saturday night in March and I've got to say, for a chain restaurant, it's one of the better seafood places around the area (I haven't tried them all, but even when I ask people, they can't recommend anything better). We started with the 'Bang-Bang' shrimp. We were told by many that we had to try it, so we did - it was awesome! I don't care what some people say, you've got to try it. I would go back just for that! For an entree, I had the Chilian Sea Bass with the warm mango salsa and it was delicious - tender and flaky....just the way it should be. My husband had the grouper and loved that too. I don't usually rave about food unless it's really good, and this was by far some of the better tasting seafood we'd had in awhile. The wait wasn't long (make reservations - especially during the busy season) and the wait staff was very pleasant and attentive. We are looking forward to returning soon! read more

Tonight our server was Destini, she was WONDERFUL!Very professional, very prompt, always asking if we needed anything , and also very clean and wearing a mask even though the mandate is done. The restaurant is clean and all wear masks.This was our first trip back to the interior of the Bonefish Grill. We have eaten outside, however tonight we decided to eat in, as it was hot outside.We were a party of 5.Destini was very kind and considerate of our older diner, as well as being very attentive to all. She explained the specials, and 3 of us decided on the Butterfish it was supposed to be a Black Alaskan Cod.This is why this is not a 5 star review, it was not a good choice. VERY FISHY.Not tasty. Unanimous with the others in our party of 5. I could not finish it, after only a few bites. I love cod, and usually order the CRAB ENCRUSTED COD, but it is no longer on the menu. One of our friends ordered the Cod Imperial, and it was excellent and more economical, we wish we had ordered this instead. I had the shrimp pad thai and was disappointed. The shrimp were quite small, overcooked and dry. Another family member had filet mignon that was flat and looked and tasted like just a regular sirloin steak. It was ordered medium but came out rare and almost inedible. On a positive note the Sea Bass was very good and the bang bang shrimp were flavorful. Also the waitress was very nice as were the rest of the staff. It's one of those chains that is generally very good but maybe they had an off night. Nevertheless, Corporate should rethink the little shrimp they put in the pad thai. read more

I was dining at the bar last evening at Bonefish when I overheard a staff member tell the bartender, who is excellent, gives us great service, that the kitchen staff was refusing to make her food. I'm not sure what the rules are regarding food for staff, etc., but it would seem to me that any of the staff would get the benefit of eating at the restaurant where they are working, especially if they are working a long shift. In any event, not only would the kitchen staff not make her food but one of them referred to her using an expletive followed by a pejorative, offensive word that I will not even write in this review. Management is clearly missing from that establishment, and sensitivity training is obviously needed. read more

Our reservation was acknowledged and we were promptly seated. I like that about Bonefish. Our server, John, was enthusiastic and helpful in describing entrees. We ordered a wedge salad and was surprised about 10 min later when he said the restaurant doesn't have Thousand Island dressing. We ordered blue cheese dressing which was fine. Where we are from, wedge salads traditionally come with Thousand Island dressing. Just thought it was unusual. Saturday night was crowded and noisy, but that's what SEASOn is! Awful food. My mozzarella sticks were STILL FROZEN. I also ordered a Caesar salad. What I got was enough Caesar dressing to drown an infant mixed with large chunks of lettuce hearts. My boyfriend ordered a grouper sandwich which was okay but not worth $15. My boyfriends grandmother got a chicken salad sandwich, not toasted. What she got was a couple slices of soggy toast with a single scoop of chicken salad right in the center. There was like maybe two or three pieces of actual chicken. Inconsistent is the operative word for this Bonefish location. Once in a blue moon you'll luck out and it will be delicious. Many times it will be sub-par and you'll get an attitude from management for telling them so. Ordered the mussels and they were overcooked to the size of small lima beans. Bartender has an indifferent, almost hostile attitude. MOD shows up and says "we can't please you, maybe you need to find a new restaurant". They always comp the complained food, but why can't they just make it right the first time? Hospitality and consistent quality are not the operative words for this location. read more

Just edited this review to make it a bit shorter. Anyway, I was visiting my dad in Florida and we were looking for a nice place to eat. The Bonefish Grill had continually caught our eye, so we decided to try it out. We needed to make a reservation almost 3 hours in advance as the wait times were generally 80+ minutes at night, but when we arrived ten minutes early for our reservation we were seated immediately. The service was very good. The server may have been trying a little too hard to establish the restaurant as a "fancy" place, but drinks were still refilled regularly and he came by regularly to check on us and made us feel welcome. I loved the atmosphere of the place. The lighting and overall feel in the restaurant make it a very enjoyable experience. The restaurant also provides complimentary bread and pesto+oil or butter if you want. The bread was excellent and a great addition to the meal. Anyway, onto the food. The Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer (which is $5 on Wednesdays) was delicious. I could see myself returning on Wednesdays just for that. As for our entrees, I got the Chilean Sea Bass, which is one of the more expensive entrees on the menu, but it was fantastic. The sides (garlic mashed potatoes and season vegetables in my case) were excellent as well. You can pick one of four sauces for your fish, and I got the Chimichurri sauce. I was able to try some of the other sauces, and this one was definitely my favorite. I'm not an expert when it comes to describing the qualities of cooked fish, but the texture and taste seemed great to me, and I'm usually a picky eater. Considering many of the menu items are very modestly priced ($14-$17 or even lower), I'll definitely be checking out this restaurant again back in Colorado. read more

I was craving Chilean Sea Bass and could not find it on any other restaurant menus in the area, so I looked up their reviews on Yelp and decided to try it out Boncefish since they had received a few good Yelp reviews..... Okay, if you like Denny's, loud music, views of strip malls from your table, and AWFUL food, give it a go. Seriously, this place is a joke. We started with the Bang Bang Shrimp. It was okay, but if you bread and deep-fry shrimp and then slather it with mayo, it will taste okay. It was downhill from there. The complementary bread and olive oil were sad. Our mains were, well, terrible. Hubby's "Dynamite Salmon" had way too much sesame oil (we could smell it before it arrived at the table) and nothing more for flavor. My Chilean Sea Bass was bland, boring, and sad. We decided on a whim to try sharing a dessert since we could not eat our mains,so we shared the Key Lime Pie. Well, Publix does a MUCH better job. All-in-all, a huge disappointment. $100 bucks wasted again in Venice. read more

We generally like Bonefish Grill & eat there on a somewhat regular basis. However, the last couple times have been disappointing. On Sunday August 20th we sat at the bar as usual and ordered dinner as the couple next to us complained to the manager about their food being delivered cold. Well sure enough when ours arrived it was cold also. We sent it back and the second time it arrived it was just warm. The manager did take the food off our check but we didn't go there looking for free food but rather a hot delicious meal. There are just too many wonderful restaurants in this area to spend your time and money at this particular location of the chain. Our waitress spent more time with another client playing with their baby, than she did with us. We had to flag the waitress down four or five times at least during dinner. She was not in touch with us whatsoever. Bang bang shrimp is always good, but they actually brought microwaved loaves of bread to the table! We had a reservation, called when we were delayed by traffic accident and were told all was good, your table will be ready when you arrive. When we arrived 10 minutes later we were told indifferently that our table had been given away and there would be a wait. We had theater tickets and needed to be seated and served right away - that clearly wasn't happening. Speaking to the manager, Rachel, did no good, barely got an apology and nothing was done to correct the problem. "Not our policy to hold tables." There were all sorts of disgruntled customers in similar situations. We are year round residents and won't be back nor will we ever recommend this property. What's the point of making reservations if they won't be honored. Guess they gave you much seasonal business to be bothered with customer service. read more

I have eaten here a couple of times in this location. The bang bang is always good, as well as the drinks. But the waitors and waitresses need a little help. They dont sound like they know what theyre talking about. We had one waitress that charged us for our Happy Hour Drinks, and began to say that if she has to go back to change the order her manager would get upset...? Well that wasnt our fault. I am not a fan of chains, and I know people love Bonefish, and go on about the bang bang fish (which I find heavy and greasy), like other's have said it's chain food. I live by the Bonefish in University Park and every time I go to meet someone there - I say it's my last time. This past Saturday I was at the Bonefish on Fruitville and was comparing it to the one in Venice, but no ambiance. I had a filet that was not a good grilled restaurant quality steak. So back to the Bonefish in Venice, FL.... I took a ride with a friend to Venice two weeks ago, we haven't been down that way in awhile and saw the new Bonefish. He had a gift card and it was dinner time. This new Bonefish has lots of ambiance, like Angela said, dark and intimate, very romantic. There are lots of windows all around, if they had a fireplace it would make you think you were in more of a northern restaurant, which reminds me it was freezing the night we were there. We were both dressed in beach casual and that was the only uncomfortable thing, it was so cold! hmmm maybe why I'm thinking fireplace. We sat at the bar area, and it faced out to TV's with the game on. The bar area at this location is more open than the one in UP or on Fruitville road. The food was the same, nothing great. We split the seared tuna appetizer and I got the ceviche for my entry. It was OK, but not like chunks of seafood. I'm doing the no carb thing and it was very hard not to eat their crusty bread. The service was great. If I was a fan of Bonefish I would go out of my way and make the drive down. They also had lovely outside seating, granted it did face the parking lot, but they made it look nice. My 4 star rating is based on the decor and staff, but it was nice enough that I would go to this one again. read more

I'll start by saying that I'm a big fan of the bang bang shrimp here that in my opinion make this restaurant chain worth visiting, but this visit was definitely less than desirable. Once we arrived we had to wait a bit even though the place was almost empty and we had made a reservation, which was strange. Service was fine, but then we ordered the food. Appetizer of bang bang shrimp came out and was great, everyone was happy, but then all the entrees came out except for my aunts, at which point she was then informed that they didn't have it and she would need to pick something else...AFTER everyone else at the table had been served their meal!! Crab cakes, sushi bowl, and coconut shrimp were all very underwhelming, and when we explained to the manager the obvious issue with the fact that we were not informed about the entree problem when we should have been, the manager acted unsympathetic and essentially blamed her staff - BIG no no. They did remove her second entree order from the bill, but that was after we asked and had to make a stink about it. I've had great experiences at other locations, but this is just a bad seed so do yourself a favor and head elsewhere! read more

Have eaten at Bonefish many times before and love it but was tempted to finally leave a review based on my last experience with the manager. I called 2 weeks in advance to make a reservation for a party of 10 for a Saturday night. Over the phone I was told that there was no room for a party that size. Decided to go in person and see if I would have better luck there because I was trying to arrange dinner for a friends birthday. Met the manager Kirk and he took the time to literally rearrange alot of the reservations for that night to accommodate our party. Thank you Kirk for making that happen! read more

We were at the Bonefish Grill in Venice Florida this afternoon and had a lovely meal. However, I went to take a drink of my draft beer and found a fruitfly floating. This could happen to anyone, but when I brought it to the attention of the waitress, she said they would give me a replacement. The beer was half empty with the floating bug. She brought me a half a glass of beer as replacement. Come on, a fresh full glass of beer would have been the way to make this right, not a half glass of beer. Is Bonefish Grill that stingy? This location is always hit or miss for decent service. We were very excited to have Bonefish put in closer to us rather than driving to Sarasota each time. Happy hour is always crazy, be sure to arrive early or show up towards the end while people are finishing up to grab a seat at the bar. We personally feel the service is much more attentive at the bar, but only by certain bartenders. We would come more often if we knew the service would always be spot on. The food is always very good, and you honestly can't beat the deals during happy hour. There is always a very friendly crowd of customers in the bar. Be sure to keep an eye out on any new speciality drinks on their menu. If they have their watermelon martini be sure to order it. read more

What a great place, besides the fabulous food which is no exaggeration in itself, the staff was great from when we walked up to the door we were greeted by a smiling hostess that held the door for us as we pushed my mothers wheel chair in, to our waitress Carrie S that was very patient and answered many questions from my mother who struggled to place her own order from a past stroke. When we left one of the guys came out to help get mom from her wheel chair to the car. Worst meal ever!!! Should have 0 stars. My husband took me there tonight as a night off from cooking. The service left something to be desired. Our server stated that she was new. This excuses what? My husband ordered the vegetable of the evening which was spinach and very sour.(I tasted it, it was horrible!) I set it aside and told the server, she took it away, not offering to bring a replacement. I shared my green beans with him. My entree had no taste, granted it was cod but it was supposed to have a sauce on it. With a magnifying glass you could probably find 1 tsp. drizzled down the middle. Our son's chicken nugget and fries were cold and the chicken was very dry like it was microwaved to death. We paid our bill, went home and made our son dinner. What a waste. The menu and ambience is very nice. Bummer our food was not derived hot. I ordered the lobster stuffed shrimp which could have been cooked longer...it was mediocre.
