We had such a great dinner at Farlow's on the Water! We ordered the maple glazed vegan chicken breast and the house specialty, the St. Croix Seafood Pie. I was pleasantly surprised by the St. Croix Seafood Pie--it was packed with seafood and had so much flavor. I wasn't the biggest fan of the puff pastry personally, although it was still tasty. I actually think a flaky biscuit would've paired even better with the filling. The maple glazed vegan chicken breast was delicious too, and I really appreciated that they had thoughtful vegan options on the menu. The real star of the meal though was the rosemary lavender lemonade--it is an absolute must-have! Super refreshing and unique. Great food, beautiful waterfront atmosphere, and friendly service. Came for dinner Sept 13. Triggerfish tasted good, nice presentation. Wife had a seafood dish with cornbread on top. Under the surface the cornbread was raw. 8 hours later I became violently ill for several hours. When I informed the manager a few days later, I was told "We haven't had any other complaints. We get fresh fish in every day." Oh, OK, that makes it alright then! I give it one star for the beautiful sunset, and another because the food actually tasted good going down. The Who experience was great. We had a great waitress named Kara, she was excellent and very attentive.. we ordered steamed mussels and our dinner was salad. My husband had the St. Croix chicken salad with fruit in it and I had the crab salad in a cinnamon shell with a buck of fruit raspberries, star, blueberries, cranberries, pineapple and cantaloupe along with candied pecans and raspberry vinaigrette dressing on top of romaine lettuce, soooooo goood I've never actually finished a salad before, I finished this one. Giving four stars for the overall vibes and ambiance like I talked about in my last review, but honestly the food was probably 3 stars this time. I had a really unique blackened fish (can't remember the name) from the specials menu. It was cooked nice but really, a bit too heavy on the seasonings for me. I almost wish I would have gotten it grilled instead. The side of broccoli and sweet potato were fine, but I don't know the broccoli may have been previously frozen. It just didn't feel fresh to me and that bothers me at restaurants - personal preference maybe. It down poured while we were there but stayed nice and dry, especially since we weren't sitting near the edges of the covered area. We were seated quickly outside and had a nice view from our table. Our waitress seemed new, as we didn't see her much and had to ask for refills. She was super friendly though, so no complaints with our service. Everyone tried a different food item at the table. I have always wanted to try a Hot Brown, unfortunately that was a disappointment. It was basically just an open faced sandwich made with a thin slice of sourdough bread, one slice of turkey, two strips of bacon and burnt processed cheese smothered on the top of the dish - it didn't even include any sides. This was not a true Hot Brown and was a huge disappointment, especially for the price paid. Other people at the table said their food was excellent - they had the crab cake sandwich with sweet potatoes fries, turkey club sandwich with regular fries, St. Croix cranberry chicken salad and the roast turkey and cranberry sandwich with sweet potatoes fries. I tried the sweet potato fries and coleslaw, which were really good. This was a really nice restaurant with friendly employees, but I will be sure not to order the hot brown again. read more

Disappointing experience for a birthday celebration and we are visiting from Tampa. We had reservations and mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, hoping for a nice evening -- instead, we left disappointed. Our server seemed distracted and short-tempered from the start. We later overheard the head bartender correcting him about something from the previous night, and it was clear he brought that mood to our table. He was disengaged, answered questions as if we were an inconvenience, and when we mentioned the birthday, there was no acknowledgment at all -- no small gesture, nothing. It felt like the only way to get any recognition would have been to order dessert. To make things worse, the younger gentleman standing by the hostess desk with the frozen fish display, when asked what fish they were, completely rude and made snarky comment about it being a big fish. Same with the hostess- when asked the hostess about patio seating and were told they'd stopped seating outside due to weather. The weather was fine, and we could see plenty of open tables out there as we walked past -- plus a singer performing, which would have been a nice touch for the occasion. On the food: the coconut macadamia hogfish $35 was good, but the strawberry jam on top was overpowering and masked the flavor of the fish rather than complementing it. Kids grouper bites for $16 was decent. Tilefish was really good for $35. Overall, if you're celebrating something special, this may not be the place -- we felt more like a bother than a valued guest. If you do go, I'd avoid the bar area seating; service elsewhere might be better. read more

After a handful of visits to Farlow's this year, I'm going to downgrade to 2 stars. Overall, the sauces are overwhelming and don't pair well with the fish. Also consistently, the fish is overcooked. Beware of the circular concrete seats outside. It looks pleasant and easy to converse but there's no supportive back and of course concrete is hard. Stopped in for dinner after a round of golf. They did not mind my golf attire. I was seated outside under the covered patio. My server was Toni and she was very attentive. I started with the pain pill cocktail - their version of a pain killer. It was really tasty. It came in a very tall glass with some cinnamon sprinkle. The pineapple was fresh. While I looked over the menu, she brought out some warm crusty rolls with salted butter. Yummmmm. I was famished so I dug in. They had so many things on the menu I was a bit in information overload. I started with the coconut shrimp, which they say is a house specialty. The dipping sauce was interesting - like a cold coconut milk? The shrimp were butterflied and lightly fried. There is four on the plate. Pretty good. For dinner, I had the fresh catch with mashed potatoes and the zucchini medley. The medley had zucchini. squash, onions and red bell pepper in it. They have other sides like sweet potato as well. You get your choice of two. The entree came with a side salad. It was a small portion. It had some sweet candied nuts on it, with some shredded mixed cheese and a side of their house French dressing. Some of the pieces of lettuce were really long so it was kinda messy to eat. The red snapper was my choice of fresh catch. I asked for it grilled but the other option is blackened. The fish was a good portion. About 6 to 8 ounces. The mashed potatoes were delicious. I enjoyed my meal and I was too stuffed for dessert. But I saw the bread pudding with ice cream at another table. Wow! The scoop of ice cream on that dish was huge! The key lime ice cream pie sounded interesting and I imagine they have a good tiramisu. Next time I'll get dessert. Service was stellar. I was not bothered but I was checked on often for another drink and water etc. plates were cleared often but did not distract me. I really enjoyed being outside because they had a one man band playing guitar and singing so wonderfully. It's a gorgeous setting outside. A bit warm, but I was gross from golf anyways. They do have quite a few fans but I'm glad I was away from them. I hate when I'm trying to eat and it's all I can do to keep my hair from blowing in my face and mouth from overzealous ceiling fans. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Parking is a private lot out front and I easily found a space. This place was recommended by a coworker. I am so glad I took her recommendation! read more

What a pretty restaurant. We were fortunate to get a 6:45 reservation. The place was very busy and Keith our nice server did his best to let us know things were a bit backed up. I never had Hogfish before so I tried the oven baked whole Hogfish which then is prepared for plate at table side. It is a spectacular looking dish. That being said, $66 is a lot and I would not get it again--for I enjoy most fish and probably would choose a $30 entree next time. My husband had fish tacos--fine. The traditional salad, rolls, and side options are very nice details. The kind of full-meal that we appreciate! I have to say the atmosphere is really nice on an inlet, mood lighting at night, live music, which was OK nothing great but just a nice place be near the water. You can sit outside or inside. A great innovative, seafood menu with combinations of inventive sauces and sides. The menu was like nothing else I've ever experienced when it came to seafood. I wish our server was a little more personable. She didn't seem very engaging and just wanted to get her job done. I understand that it was crowded and busy, but that's no excuse for not having a personality. We started with a couple cocktails, a rum punch, lime in de coconut that was tasty but tasted more nonalcoholic than anything. I understand that they can only put a couple ounces into a drink at a time, but this tasted like it was only maybe one oz at best...Tasty nonetheless. For dinner I had the hog fish, which was outstanding. Someone once told me that if you ever see it on the menu to try it it's buttery and meaty and if you've never had it definitely try it (if you find it on a menu it's pretty elusive) so I was happy to see it was there. The sauce was an incredible rum and fruit sauce that added to it and the Boursin mashed potatoes were delicious! I also had a side of corn pudding and it was OK. I thought that the mashed potatoes outshined the corn pudding. My husband had the St Croix seafood pot pie and he enjoyed it. For dessert I was kind of bummed because I really wanted a piece of Keylime pie however they did have Keylime ice cream pie. I didn't really want that so I didn't get anything. However it was still a delicious dinner. I didn't need dessert I guess after all lol. I would come back again for certain. It was busy on a Friday night and our party of 6 to wait about 20 minutes. It's a big place with indoor and outdoor seating. It's pricey and the food is subpar. We loved our drinks and the hush puppies. 5 stars for the papaya colada, key lime martini, and hush puppy appetizer. The mashed potatoes also maintain that 5-stars rating for excellent flavor and texture. Good portion size too. The corn pudding and hog fish had zero flavor and were completely bland. The others at the table have similar reviews to their seafood main dishes except for high marks for uniqueness and taste on the seafood pie with the cornbread covering. I forget the name of it, but I believe it was a house specialty and had pieces of shrimp and scallops underneath and excellent cornbread crusted top. Waterfront restaurants are always fun, but for better seafood-I go to Dockside in Venice. It's a bit cheaper too and also on the water. read more

This time around with a 5:15 reservation is not the same as our last visit in 2024. Sure, the reservation was a couple of minutes behind for a party of 4 outside, no big deal. However, the service & food did not align. Our waitress was great, super friendly & made excellent suggestions. She was a busy lady working very quickly for a handful of tables of 4+ in the heat. Things seemed to start out steady. We received 2 orders of escargot timely, as well as the salads that came with our meals. NOTE: The 'house' salad dressing is a homerun & highly suggested! A+++ Back to issues... My husband ordered a hogfish special & opted for the oven baked choice. The rest of us ordered off of the regular menu. Nearly an hour after our salad plates were cleared, we were told (at about a 40 minute wait mark) that the hogfish was 'taking longer' as if it were normal. We began to suspect that it was a mess-up in the kitchen. After being patient, our orders came in but were obviously reheated. My choice of the stuffed flounder was burnt underneath as well as rubbery. The broccoli was impossible to cut. I should have asked, but be aware that the quinoa salad includes green apples, dried cranberries & walnuts - I made the assumption that it would be hot/savory. I didn't ask, so that's my fault. SEE THE PICTURE - the hogfish my husband received looked like it had been dropped on the ground or mishandled. He was given the opportunity to take a picture before Drew 'de-boned' it for him as part of the $65 'value' they priced it for. It was overcooked, as well. In a nutshell, it was a mess. Drew was doing the best she could but we could tell she was not proud to present this fish. It was a tough decision but doubtful we'll be returning to Farlow's again when visiting FL. It was difficult to tell whether the fish really was grouper as there were just chunks of fish on the taco which was a strange presentation. We ended up inside the dining room which was nicely decorated. They have a huge covered patio as well that looked very nice. Our server, Amber, was very friendly and attentive. We came in for lunch. We ordered the Loveland Bay Peach and Mahi salad and the Crab Cake Sandwich. My salad was just ok. The Mahi could have used more flavor from the seasoning. It was cooked well and fresh. The salad could be improved on. I've had a similar salad with bleu cheese instead of Brie cheese and red onion and it added more depth to the flavor. The house mango dressing was good but I also wanted it to have more flavor. My husband said the crab cake was flavorless as well and the chipotle mayo needed more flavor. The fries were good. Our waitress was nice. The location and restaurant are nice both inside and out. The inside of the restaurant is perfect for a date night and the outside is more tropical/casual. If the food was better we would recommend but we don't think we would come back unless we heard the food was improved upon. read more

This is our favorite destination for special events like Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, birthdays and anniversaries. In fact, we came here for our 60th wedding anniversary night out last September. i came to Farlows this evening to listen to some good music, have a couple of libations, and dinner. I was babysitting a friend's little 5lb dog that I had with me, so I figured I'd get a burger, and share it with the dog. I asked for a burger with a tomato, no garlic or onions, and a mixed veggies side. The waitress brought me a beer ahead of the dinner. I finished the beer, and another ten minutes later the dinner cameout. I was a little purturbed that the waitress had not stopped by to check if I wanted another beer. They weren't busy. I received a bun and a plain burger on separate plates from a server. No condiments, no ketchup, no waitress with whom I could request ketchup. So I fed the dog pieces of the burger. My waitress finally showed up, and I pointed out that there were no condiments, and no mixed veggies. Then the mixed veggies showed up. The waitress came back a few minutes later, and asked if I wanted another beer. I said I did. She never came back with the beer. By the time she came back around to check on me (with no beer) I had an unshakable attitude, and asked for a check. I can understand about the confusion with the burger, because I mentioned i was sharing it with the dog.....and the kitchen thought it was for the dog only....but the poor service just ruined my carefree mood. I paid the $29.97 on the check, but no tip. Made a reservation @ 4 weeks in advance. We got to the restaurant and checked in , everything fine. Hostess took us to a table up on the back deck. Now mind you , it's 89 degrees. No other diners or any umbrellas for shade. I told the hostess it was unacceptable . We went back to the hostess stand and this snotty young girl tells us it would be another hour if we didn't take that table. We are frequent customers in our 70's and I have some little snot telling us to take or leave it. Anyways , I got the manager and she agreed with us. Steak ordered medium but had dark red/purple areas so was sent back, not much flounder nor virtually any blue crab stuffing for $29, and salad very small. Waitress was oblivious to our concerns although the mgr. did come over to retake the steak. Crazy that the water with lemon taste funny like well water as confirmed by all with me. While visiting my friends in FL, we decided to visit one of their favorite restaurants last night. Sadly, the experience was underwhelming, given these folks are regular customers. All started well with some cocktails and our waiter Dan seemed knowledgeable and attentive when we sat down and reminded us that this is a fine dining establishment. After receiving our cocktails and ordered our food, the issues started. The food prep took longer than normal but at last, they started to bring one plate at a time. I took a bite of my grouper filet with asparagus and fingerling potatoes only to find out that the fish was so spicy my mouth was on fire. My friend's swordfish and mashed potatoes were luke warm, the only person who received what they ordered in proper way (right food and warm) happy was my girlfriend who ordered steak and sweet potato. I had to flag Dan down to ask why my grilled fish is so spicy- seemed was blackened and not what I ordered. He took it back and said he will replace it. Then the wait started.... he came around once to say that they put jerk seasoning on it (which is not mentioned anywhere). Then we wait and wait some more. Had to flag Dan down to order a bottle of wine, as he never showed up (seemed to avoid us all together). We started on the wine and still no food for me. Finally this woman (who never introduced herself but did find out when leaving that her name is Holly, one of the managers) brings a plate with sorry looking three uneven cut up pieces of fish that I wasn't even sure what it was. Not a $36 filet for sure that I originally ordered and received with spicy seasoning by mistake. At this point my friends are done with their meals and frankly I lost my appetite. When I asked Holly why did this take so long and what is the fish on the plate she is holding, as clearly it is not a filet, her reply was " that is what he gave me"... assuming she was referring to the chef. At that point I asked her if she thinks this is acceptable for "fine dining" establishment ? Furthermore the fact that we have yet to see Dan again and I had to keep asking other wait staff for water and we had to pour our own bottle of wine... pretty disappointing experience, especially when we had to drive 40mins to get here, instead of visiting other favorite places in Punta Gorda. Bottom line, mistakes happen, however, it is the poor way the management/wait staff handles the situation that makes the difference of regular customer not ever coming back and the visitor telling everyone they know about their poor dinning experience while they were on vacation. read more

Great location! Very nice covered patio. Even though it was a bit windy out we didn't even notice in this nice covered patio area. I was here for lunch. The selection of entree salads were great, it was hard to choose. I had the Loveland Bay Peach and Mahi Salad, it was fantastic. Loved the flavor combinations and it's a good sized salad with a nice piece of fish. The mango piquant dressing went well with it. I will be back to try more salads and dinner menu read more

Date night with my sweetheart and we had been wanting to visit Farlow's. I made the reservations earlier in the day and was pleasantly surprised that they had availability being it was a Saturday. Parking is plentiful as they have their own lot. We sat at an outdoor table as I had reserved because of our plus 3 Lulu. Our waitress was very friendly and took the time to explain how some of the dishes were prepared. We ordered the calamari starter and order of The Southern Style Trigger Fish and Peter Island Scallops. The meals came with a house salad and my dish came with two sides (steamed broccoli and coconut risotto were my choices). Food came out in no time and we were impressed with the flavors and presentation of the dishes. We also ordered an unseasoned chicken breast and sweet baked potato for Lulu that was devoured in no time. They had a band playing some really good tunes from the late 60's , didn't catch their name. It is about 4.5 stars. The only thing I can said is the waiter response time needs to improve especially for the business dining during lunch time. I noticed most people are vacationing or retired people. That may be the reason the wait staff is a bit slow in response. We start with the Beer Cheese Crab Soup. This is soup of the day. It is very cheesy. The crab meat in the soup is delicious. My entree is the blackened grouper sandwich. I have them extra blackened. The blackened is spicy blackened that I like. I had the blackened trigger fish and it was seasoned perfectly. One of the best meals I have had in Florida in 20 years. We also shared a crab stuffed portobello and it was also excellent.
