The food took 20 minutes to come out. I got the fish platter with fries. I couldn't eat the fried catfish, still had a fishy taste and smell. Fries were very good and the only thing I could eat. I was afraid to complain about my fish. The Lady at the register was not overly friendly when I came in and the guy handing out food was drinking a McDonald's shake, eating McDonald's fries with his bare hands and on his phone while passing out customers meals. Tables were also filthy and not wiped down with grease all over them. Food inspection needs to come here! This place has gone down hill, very sad and will no longer be coming if things don't change. Really liked this restaurant on my recent trip to Houston. Liked it so much, I came here twice. The food is brought out pretty quickly and the staff were friendly and helpful on giving advice. I got hot lemon pepper wings and garlic parmesan wings on the first trip, and garlic parmesan (again) and cajun mojito the next trip. The garlic parm, while not as strong or flavorful as I would have liked, were great pallet cleansers / cool downs from the hotter flavors I had chosen. The hot lemon pepper were a good heat. The cajun mojito started off great with a good tang, but man that heat built up as I kept eating. It was almost too hot. The fries were good as well. My partner had been raving about Bonfire Wings so I decided to give it a try today. Overall, I thought it was okay but it wouldn't be my go-to for wings. I thought the portion size was great. I felt it was on par for the price. I ordered the bonfire special which was a ten piece (garlic Parmesan and Cajun mojito) bone-in with fries, boudin balls with cheese and two celery sticks. The food was good. I wasn't a fan of the garlic Parmesan wings as the Parmesan gave it a funky taste but the Cajun mojito was good. The Cajun mojito was the second hottest but it wasn't that hot and this is coming from someone with low spice tolerance. The service was good. We were greeted, service was fast, and there were even complimentary Hershey's kiss which I thought was nice. The restaurant was well decorated and definitely had a Louisiana flare. Well it's been a year since my last review. Back on the road again for 2022 and my first stop was Houston, and my first meal of choice was from Bonfire Wings. I really enjoy their food. Tonight I had a large creole gumbo which was delicious, along with a boudin link, and a boudin ball. Two boudin links is too much to eat and two boudin balls isn't quite enough, but one of each with the large gumbo was just right. It was all very delicious. I was craving some wings and found Bonfire Wings. They currently have two ghost kitchens operating in Houston which offer creole style wings along with boudain and gumbo. I ordered the garlic parmesan, hot, Cajun mojo, hot lemon pepper wings and the cheesy boudain. The Cajun mojo was amazing!! The wings were fried to perfection and sauced very generously. Then when they remade the order and left. My wings were BURNT UP. Their wings are not bad, It's not very elegant but a nice spot to eat. It is quite small and their menu very simple. I ordered my wings (spicy lemon and pepper and original hot) but I did ask if their Cajun were really hot and the cashier said that they were so I sticked to my two kinds. As I waited and waited, my co-worker got her way before mine not to mentioned both our orders looked completely different (we both ordered the special). They also have fried catfish, chicken strips, creole fries, red beans and rice. Today I go for classics, but plan for an update on those other rascals... and their pecan pie. The décor is inexpensive material, including unpadded wood chairs. There is a long counter where people can sit at the bar and eat. The 8 or so 4-seater tables are lined-up against a wall covered with wavy galvanized steel panels. It appears that they expect a large take-out crowd. They have little credit-card-sized menus for your wallet or purse or European men's shoulder bag. I ordered the Zydeco Special, consisting of: - Creole-style Gumbo (chicken and sausage) - this is chock-full of chicken, not so much vegetable, some rice and a smattering of sausage. The roux is light-colored. The taste at first was like spicy chicken soup, but after a few bites, the spices sank in the tongue and tasted quite good. - Boudain Balls (2) - these were delicious and spicy, but overly so. What??? No wings??? I wanted a combo with wings and gumbo, but they don't offer that. C'mon, man! If other places can serve chicken with waffle, why not gumbo and wings? The negatives: The TV was too loud (there is one hanging from ceiling in each corner). Comfort, lack of. Nevertheless, based on today's meal, I will be back. P.S.
