We went here during COVID because 2 of my girl friends and I haven't seen each other since last year and it was August now. We all got tested and had negative results. We wanted an outdoor place to meet up but it was raining this day so we went here because it had outdoor seatings but also had a covering. The place has good food, is not fussy, absent of service, and the rice was not cooked all the way which really ruined it for us. We dined a Bongos on Saturday night and were blown away by how delicious the food was! We had the shrimp o'boy and the ham/pork sandwiches. They were too die for!! So, so good! For dessert, we had the Tres Leches coconut and mango bread pudding. Oh my.......this was so amazing! Not too sweet but utterly delicious!! I would definitely get this the next time we go. Everything was super clean, including their bathroom, which is a single use, enter from outdoors with a code that is monitored and cleaned rigorously by staff. I have been here multiple times over the past few years, the food never disappoints, whether dine in or take out. The seating area is ridiculous, it has a large area filled with sand so it is almost like you're eating on a beach. There's also an outdoor bar area and some seating around an outdoor fireplace. Can't beat the atmosphere, especially in the summer. There're indoor seating as well. Food-wise the portions are pretty big. I only get the plates, a third of it is slaw, the other third is beans and rice, the remaining third is your protein. Over the years I have tried the ropa vieja, desi and spicy shrimp. I always find myself rotating between the 3 as they're just that good. If you get a side, definitely go for the maduros or yukon fries. I don't interact a lot with the staff usually, you order the food at a counter, and find a set with a number and they bring it to you. But every small interactions with them were very pleasant and friendly, so nothing to complain there. For the amount and quality of food you're getting, the price is very cheap. This was a great experience! First of all this is not a fancy place to get food. I was served my food (without a long wait!) on a paper plate and it can get a little messy. Their outdoor "beach" seating is what I think attracts a lot of customers and it's definitely something fun and different. I went on a really hot and sunny day but they had lots of shaded seating which was very nice. I ordered the bucco chicken plate (the sandwich is a little cheaper but I prefer not to have a lot of bread) and loooved it, I finished the whole thing! I was surprised with how big the serving of chicken was but it was so good I couldn't stop eating it. The plate is a decent size so if two people wanted to split it they could and get a smaller sized lunch, probably not enough for two dinners though.
