The salad that came with the sandwich was very good. I wld like to find out where they got their produce because everything was fresh. The service was quick, may be because we were the only customers at the time(around 4-5pm). The girl that took our order was extremely nice and courteous which made the experience even better. Ordered the mushroom, spinach pine nut crepe. For the uninitiated - this would generally be referred to as a crêpe salé - or a salty crêpe, as it does not have the sweet components of other crepes (crêpe sucré), honey, sugar, fruit etc. Crêpes salés can have meats, cheeses, eggs, vegetables etc. Normally a crepe salé will be served on a buckwheat crepe. To my shock and 'horreur' the salé filling was inclosed in a sweet crepe - it was literally sweet - made with sugar or honey in the batter. Qu'est-ce que vous fabriques là-bas? I went looking for authenticity and found only disappointment. Quelle dommage. The crêpe would have been amazing around some honey, banana, coconut and almond butter. Stick with the sweet crepes when eating here and you will be very satisfied. read more

But CASH ONLY & they serve everything on paper plates & with plastic cutlery (so the 'ambiance' might be lacking a bit) Other than that, it's a really cute place, and again, the food is delicious! My mom and I ordered one of their omelettes with ham, cheese & tomato and a crepe with caramelized apples and banana, a coffee & a hot tea. We got more than expected! The owner (?) who sits behind the register and brings out the food & drinks filled both of our cups to the brim, which made my mom very happy. Also, both plates came with half a slice of a ripe & juice pineapple and the omelette had a small side of salad and the crepe was nicely decorated with the slice of pineapple and a heap of whipped cream. Like I said everything was great! The only 'cons' to this place are (as previously said): Cash Only (but there's a Chase & another bank in walking distance) No real cutlery, cups, & plates (my mom's German, so she prefers "proper" dishes) The caramelized apples were more baked than caramelized, and a bit dry. Service was pretty bad too, I asked for mozzarella to be added to the savory crepe when ordering, and they didn't put it in there. The grilled chicken had a bad taste to it, and was burned/blackened in places. The spinach was soggy, so soggy that it made the entire crepe wet and fall apart. I would say, order a sweet crepe and don't expect great or even 'decent' service. It is non-existent. Took forever to get a single crepe. 30 minutes for a single crepe and lemonade is pretty damn unacceptable. Crepe was okay, service was odd. Go made lemonade was good. That said, ordering felt really awkward (lady seemed annoyed I was not ordering more) and despite our sitting outside they put the crepe in a to-go box in which it got steamed and soggy. Probably would not recommend unless you're out of options or are just fiending for crepes. Stopped going here after getting sick of the rude and abrupt service. The woman at the front is abrasive and rude, always seems to have an issue, and once argued with me about how I wanted my iced coffee. The service is slower than it needs to be and is often distracted and harried. The final straw was when the guy sprinkled Parmesan on my to-go sweet strawberry Nutella crepe instead of powdered sugar. I ordered a savory crepe with grilled chicken, pesto and mozzarella. The chicken was overcooked and rubbery. And the crepe was undercooked and soggy. All together it was a disaster. Honestly, you can never go wrong coming to Bonjour Montclair for breakfast, lunch, or just for a sweet dessert. I've visited Paris a few times, and I have to say, Bonjour Montclair's crepes are just as good as the ones over there. Aside from their delicious crepes, their sandwiches are great. They also let you basically create your own if they have all ingredients for it. (ex. I always order a chicken, pesto, mozzarella sandwich which isn't on the menu, but they always make it for me on request). Overall, the sandwiches are great, the crepes are delicious, the staff is super nice. Only downfall is there isn't much seating, so if you go around lunch time, you'll have to take it to-go since it's unlikely you'll be able to snag a table. Also, cash only. It's easy to miss this cozy spot if you're not carefully looking. There is metered street parking as well as four public metered spots in the small parking lot to the left. Once inside you may not have immediate seating as it is quite limited. It's a squeeze inside while you wait alongside the wall for a spot to open up. I suggest ordering prior to getting your seat as it takes some time for food to be made. The menu is actually quite big for such a small estqblishment. I ordered a banana Nutella crepe and my best friend got a strawberry banana Nutella crepe. We definitely enjoyed our Crepes and could barely finish them because they were quite large. Don't be fooled by the plastic utensils and the facade of the place. This is legit! Delivers the best crepes in town! First time here and it did not disappoint! This establishment is definitely a great find. I had lunch there today, chicken club and apple crepe, and everything was fresh and delicious. My daughter had a chef salad and strawberry, banana, and Nutella crepe, which was to big to finish. They have a few tables outside to enjoy your meal while taking in the view of Montclair and feeling the change in the weather. The staff was very courteous and helpful. A couple of friends and I arrived at 8:30, but they were already closing. We told them that we came from Newark, so it was quite far away. Upon hearing that, the owner told us that there's no way he'll let us leave hungry. They stayed open later just for us. The owner and his wife are absolutely the nicest people you'll ever meet. As for the food, it was exquisite. I ordered the smoked salmon crepe and I was impressed at how creamy and filling it was. This is a very cute Cafe and one of the few places that makes everything from scratch. I love the Nutella banana strawberry crepe. It's huge and a meal in itself and comes with a piece of fruit. The goat cheese was creamy and tangy, and there was plenty of it in the crepe, the turkey was just sliced deli meat; the tomato and pesto were delicious, the pesto was pretty good, I loved the flavor and texture of this crepe although I felt a little bit of something crunchy besides the lettuce from the mesculen salad would have been nice, didn't need additional salt or pepper, which is a good sign; I loved how it came with a slice of cantaloupe... overall a very good crepe especially the cake itself, the batter was ultra smooth to produce a cake like this, ultra light and fluffy) *steak crepe (the steak was cut perfectly thick for a crepe, grilled meat and placed inside.. yum!) Just something in the fact that the pesto and proscuitto, when heated inside a thin little pancake .. they get slimey and ewwie. And with a plastic knife, on a paper plate? You can't cut into it, so you just try to shovel it in and -- "burn, yuck, pesto is kind of not so fresh, the proscuitto's gameiness is not being well-hidden, in fact it is being exacerbated by the other ingredients in this crepe..ew, ew, ew." You get my drift. The breakfast crepes are pretty good though, overall. And you get a good amount for your buck...your dollar does get you pretty far, although...again...atmosphere, cramped, employees, disgruntled, utensils, non-existent. Judge it yourself. I've been here twice--once a year ago, and once today. I was craving crepes this morning and was wondering why I haven't been back to Bonjour Montclair. I remembered as soon as I walked back in--it's crowded, the "waitress" is actually a cashier/server/busboy who has way too much to take care of, and the food takes forever and a half to come out. My boyfriend and I were informed that we should just sit at any table that becomes available... which was awkward because we weren't sure who was waiting to sit before us. We ordered before we found a seat and we waited and waited at least 15 minutes, watching people come in and order food to-go that came out before ours did. The crepes themselves are not that great. I got the cream of chestnut this time and it was doused in powdered sugar, which was completely unnecessary because the filling itself was already way too sweet. It was too sweet for me even after I scraped most of the powdered sugar and whipped cream off. My boyfriend had a savory crepe with proscuitto and some other stuff in it, which was way too salty. Also, savory crepes should be made with buckwheat!!! These were not. To me, this is a mark of a business that does not care about the quality or authenticity of their food. All in all--Bonjour Montclair is understaffed and unimpressive. Would not go again or recommend to others. read more

I cannot comment as to how their crepes are, but I can comment to their terrible service. Took a 30 minute drive to go here on a Sunday evening. Got there at 6:30 pm. The hours on the door, on their website and everywhere else state 8 am to 8 pm. 4 people were sitting around inside, we go to open the door and it's locked. Someone from behind the locked door says "closed". I look down at the hours for Sunday, 8 pm. They didn't bother to come out and give an explanation or anything else. We wanted to try their crepes, in fact we had an order for 5 people, but I will never go here again, nor will I recommend this place for anyone wanting crepes. One of my favorite spots in Montclair! I love the hole in the wall feel of it, and that the food is consistently delicious! My favorite things to get at Bonjour Montclair are their crepes (turkey, goat cheese, and pesto oh my gosh) and their soups (Apple carrot and butternut squash are my favorites). The crepes are huge and filled with fresh, delicious ingredients and the soups are flavorful, creamy, and come with a giant slice of bread to dip in it! The service is friendly and quick and the food is very affordable! My only 2 issues with Bonjour Montclair are that the coffee isn't my favorite (and when they put sugar they really overdo it) and that they serve everything on styrofoam plates (like others have mentioned). It took me way, way, way, way too long to get back here. Years. Should have been weeks at most. I just wanted a little dessert to wash down my P'haal from Brick Lane, and I remembered how much I needed to revisit Bonjour. I came in for a dessert crepe. $6-$8 seemed a little pricy, but I paid it anyway. They made me a custom strawberry-lemon-butter dessert crepe. I figured it was on the expensive side - until it came out. Holy portion size, Batman! I could barely finish it! The dessert crepe is the size of an entire meal. The crepe is outstanding, it's packed full of ingredients, there were added strawberries on the outside, and then finished off with a generous helping of whipped cream and even a pineapple slice. My faith was restored with the first of many, many bites. I barely waddled out as they got toward closing time (9 PM, not bad). Now that Mac Attack has closed, this becomes my default must-stop when I head through Montclair, whether for dessert or a meal. read more

I can't speak to the food because I went in for all of 2 minutes and then left. I had read the reviews and thought this would be a good place to meet a friend to chat over crepes. I was wrong, when I entered, the tiny space was almost completely quiet and the older people who were there kind of looked up, you could hear crickets. Zero decor, zero ambiance. One could not have even a muted conversation there without feeling like you were sharing your chat with everyone else. Bonjour is a trendy little place on the edge of Watchung Plaza that has a well earned reputation for consistent food in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The ding room is very clean, not overly packed with tables, and dominated by the kitchen counter along one side. It can be a bit noisy inside, but the outside seating is lovely, and compliments the atmosphere well. The staff are friendly, and even if a tad overwhelmed at times, generally efficient and eager to please. The crepes are the main fare here, and they are done well. There is a good variety of both savoury and sweet items to have with the crepes, everything from skirt steak and spinach to strawberries and chocolate sauce (hopefully not all together). Some of the house combinations, such as mixed veggies and goat cheese or steak, spinach, portobello mushroom and cream, are balanced and well conceived. Salads are very generous. There is a moment of disappointment with the niçoise when it is delivered with tuna salad (tuna & mayo) rather than an actual piece of tuna. However, as a whole it is obviously an "inspired by" rendition appropriate to the environment. Bonjour is definitely a good option for a light dinner or a fine lunch or brunch. read more

I don't think I've ever reviewed this place, which is nuts - I've been going here for years! The coffee with foam on top - the best. The avocado, mozzarella and tomato sandwich - divine! The banana caramel nuts crepe - delicious! I usually get the steak and cream crepe, and I always love it. I love the little salad or the melon/pineapple slice.
