The food was delicious. We had the tuna served rare with vegetables and rice. All I can say is the tuna was fabulous. The tuna was cooked perfectly, texture was soft not chewy and still rare and the flavor of the sauce it was seared with had a hint of garlic and butter. If you want sushi, I recommend the Snow White. The white tuna and crunchy topping is delicious. You won't be disappointed, but stay away from the spider rolls. Very surprised that the restaurant wasn't busy on a Friday night. This was my first time trying this restaurant and I'm pleased! They delivered my order and that's a plus. I ordered the shaggy roll, bakery roll, and chicken dumplings called gyoza. It was all delicious! The price was reasonable and the staff was friendly. The only con was the wait for my delivery order but it was because the driver couldn't find my place. The lady that helped me with my order ended up delivering the food herself and giving me a free appetizer card for any inconvenience. I will definitely eat here again. So many things are rapidly changing at Bonsai and not in a good way, the soups taste bad, there's always some sort of construction going on right in front of us, and that one chef Kris, is either really bad at cooking stake or they changed their beef to a cheaper brand, it was chewy and tuff and not at all what steak should be. read more

We've been here for a few times and have had absolutely amazing experiences. The hostess is always friendly and greeted us with a smile. If you are planning on eating hibachi then I would recommend getting Johnny because he definitely knows what he's doing and would ensure you're having a good time. Very clean atmosphere. Literally smelled "clean". The restroom was clean and tidy. My husband and me tried this for lunch on a Wednesday around 2:00. The menu was very limited for a lunch menu. Just hibachi and bento boxes. The waiter was nice. Overall I think the $36 bill was a little overpriced for lunch for 2 people and considering the portions were tiny! I don't get how this place is rated so high. This was my first and last visit. The only reason this place deserves 2 stars is due to the fact the food was good and it was halal. Service here is absolutely terrible! It didn't take long for anyone to greet us at the door and that was probably because it wasn't busy at all. Restaurant seemed fairly clean but the plates were dirty and looked greasy. The one of the napkins seemed like they forgot to wash it or something. There were no knives, just a fork. And very out-of-date table in the corner where we were sitting.. The sever too our drink order pretty quick as well but the disappointment started after that. We had 1 person short from out party so I told the server it'll be another 5 minutes and he ended up disappearing! I had to get up 20 minutes later to go look for the server, who I couldn't find, as the rest of the employees walked from around me like I didn't matter. You have a customer standing looking for someone, you should at least ask if they need something. They only had 1 hibachi chef working tonight. It took 40 minutes for the chef to even come to our table and start cooking. And to top everything off they even forgot about the check after we were done eating. I love hibachi food and I have to say this is probably one of the best places I've ever been to! The chef was very entertaining (great with the kids!) and our Server Amy topped off our wonderful night! She was so sweet and on top of her game. It wasn't very busy tonight but she did have a couple of other tables. We never felt neglected and never had to ask for refills or for her to remove anything from the table. The food was delicious! Sadly, I'm going to be that typical Yelp reviewer who says if they could leave no stars instead of one - they would do so. My fiancé and I just moved to the area and wanted to try a non-chain restaurant (plus we love hibachi). I was excited because all the reviews were pretty good and I thought it would be a great dinner. The atmosphere was quiet but the restaurant was very run down, dingy, old and unclean. I can deal with old and run down but not dirty. The hibachi grill we were seated at was in the back corner which was odd because we were the only ones on the hibachi side. After being seated the waiter turned on the grill and the room instantly started smelling like gas. We asked another waiter to come over (as ours was MIA) and she did but then went and got our waiter / the head chef. Our waiter proceeded to explain that the grills 'always' smell like gas when you turn them, while the chef had to finagle the overhead vent to stay on with a pair of chopsticks. Even after all this we placed our order. The final cherry on top (and when we decided to leave) was when the vent / light began flickering, the gas grill had the whole room smelling like gas and I discovered my plate and silverware were all very dirty. We had made a reservation for 7:30 pm on the phone, the same day as the reservation. Upon arrival, we were informed we would have to wait 35 minutes REGARDLESS of above mentioned reservation. To our surprise, there is allegedly only one chef working on Sundays. Rather than informing us about this before, they allowed us to arrive and spend time waiting at a table. We ended up leaving the restaurant at 9:30. Spending ultimately what should have taken 45 minutes maximum, we were stuck in this restaurant for TWO HOURS. Another side note, we informed them we were celebrating a special occasion (30 year wedding anniversary) and no congratulations or dessert was offered. If they would have mentioned the wait and the lack of celebratory gestures, we would have turned around. From what it seems, they lack communication to their customers in order to maintain revenue. I wish we would have known about this earlier. The food was merely okay. Originally came here since it was a little closer than Benihanas but honestly next time will go ahead and take the longer drive. We will be sticking to what we are already know has better service and food. read more

Hot tea and soup were room temperature. When I asked for hot water in my tea pot, it came back even colder. Waiter was more than a bit clueless. When we asked to sub onion soup for egg drop soup we were told up charge would be $1, waiter comes back to say up charge will be $5! Everything was overpriced for the quality. My fiancé and I went here a few days ago and we were both extremely disappointed. The restaurant was empty when we arrived so we assumed we would have good service. However, this was not the case. Our server was unattentive at best. We ordered the hibachi chicken and hibachi steak. The chicken was the driest chicken I have ever tasted. The vegetables were not even cooked; they were cold and crunchy. As for the steak, it was cooked to a crisp. Charred and definitely not medium like I ordered. There were even pieces of only fat. When the server finally decided to come back, I shared my concerns and asked for it to be removed from the bill as we did not eat it. He said ok and left. He came back with the full check and asked if we wanted a to go box. No, we don't want a to go box for the food we just said was awful! He left before I could ask about the unaltered check. After waiting another 15 minutes, I got up to ask for the manager. The manager came to speak with us and gave us the usual "so sorry will fix" speech. However, after another 15 minutes of waiting she never returned. I am thoroughly disappointed, especially after reading the glowing reviews. Also, a side note, the water filter for the building output tube was completely BROWN. The water tasted awful. I have never been to a restaurant where the water tasted like sewage. read more

I have been dying to find a great hibachi place in Houston and unfortunately even after this visit I still have not found one. The first initial impression was it was very dark and dingy. The host was kind of short and snippy and not friendly at all. We sat and waited to be greeted for about 10 minutes. The waiter was pretty nice however didn't seem super knowledgeable about the menu. The alcoholic beverage selection was VERY limited and the drink we did get wasn't very good. Once again I am a lover of hibachi so I was super disappointed when this place also didn't have fried rice offered with their entrees and you had to pay extra for them. The menu specified that shrimp appetizers came with the meals. WE DID NOT RECIEVE THIS, and the shrimp portion that we did receive with our food was VERY small and disappointing. The steak was okay and the veggies were cooked well, but the mayo(white sauce) was super watery and bland. My fiancé told the waiter it was my birthday and he forgot and never came to the table to sing or celebrate. The show performed by the chef was super dry and short and though he was friendly it was not the experience I have received at hibachi restaurants like Miyabis back home in South Carolina.
