Giving my cheerful flowers to this charming and beautiful new bar in the Post District. Everything is truly curated with such thoughtful approach, from the door handles to the lighting to the bathroom signs. You can tell there was a lot of love put into the creation of this space, and the cocktail menu reflects that. There was a private event happening upstairs when we visited, so I didn't get to see the upper level, but we snagged two barstools and were gawking at how cool the vibe was. I asked for a dirty martini and was told their house martini made with shishito peppers was amazing, so we gave it a go and WOWOW. These shishito martinis were so classy and savory with a perfect drip of olive oil. Our service was fast and the hostess who greeted us was so sweet and welcoming. We parked in the post district parking garage and got free parking with validation, which was a huge plus in this area of town. I'd highly recommend Melancholy to anyone looking for a new upscale bar with moody ambiance, crafted cocktails, and a more intimate bar experience.

Stumbled upon this place on NYE last minute and it was such a gem of a find! Both upstairs and downstairs have their own charm, but it's a very charming and moody place. Perfect for a date night. All of the staff were so nice and helpful, we felt very welcome and well taken care of. I tried the champagne flight and enjoyed it, and their cocktails were also great! I loved the caviar offering they had too.

Melancholy is another amazing cocktail and lounge option in downtown SLC. We discovered them by accident while walking to another establishment. The gorgeous bar peeking through picture window got our attention. They've been open only a few months and are doing so many things well. The space is small but intimate, creative and just what we didn't know we were looking for. They have a small bar upstairs as well, very cozy and perfect for a date night. Their servers were all very friendly, clearly happy to working there and so glad to see everyone who walked in, new face or one they remember. We chatted with everyone behind the bar downstairs and immediately wished we had Melancholy back home in Denver. Their craft cocktail menu is small but easily stands out for those in the know. These aren't your standard ingredients and their recipes will delight you. I'm not a fan of gin but the Jonny was so well made, I could be there. Gorgeous place. Lots to look at and appreciate and if that's not your vibe, there's some cozy spaces to connect with friends and loves while enjoying some really unique cocktails.

The location is quirky and cool, drinks are great but service is lacking. May be due to being somewhat new. Would be cool to rent for a private event. Just ask for validation on garage parking or you'll end up with a $40 charge at the end of the night on top of drinks and dinner.

Malbec and Granny Panties-- forgot to take a pic before drinking most of it. Very yummy!

The service is really nice. We like the bartender who works at the bar upstairs as she's very professional and nice. The cocktails are fun and sophisticated, but are priced fairly. The wine selection is also nice, and they are not stingy like some bars seem to be. I like the Coyote (very tequila forward) and Granny Panties (tastes like apple pie) and the Malbec on the menu. The decor and ambiance are both really great-- it's a more classy, mature environment and not so divey. It's a great spot for a date.

Smoked trout... from the tin was so cute!

Absolutely loved catching up with friend at Melancholy! Drinks were great and the bartenders were amazing! The decor was so cute and retro. It was not loud inside and quite packed.

At $29 with the steak, they're definitely on the pricier side, but the portion size helps justify the cost. The serving is massive--I could easily see two or even three people sharing it as a meal. By the time I finished, it honestly looked like I had barely made a dent in it. The steak was incredibly tender and packed with flavor, and every bite was loaded with toppings. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming. I stopped by during an off-peak time, so it wasn't very busy, which made for a relaxed experience. One thing that really stood out was their Guinness. As someone who appreciates a proper pour, I have to give them credit--they know exactly what they're doing. Too many places rush it, but here you can tell they take pride in serving it the right way. Their drink selection is also extensive. Whether you're a beer fan or looking to try a unique cocktail, there's no shortage of great options. I'd definitely come back, especially with a group to help tackle those nachos!

The food was good, we had the potato empanada and the wagyu skewers. Both were tasty and prepared well. There was live music that was really good and we enjoyed the people they had booked. There is a cool speak easy down stairs and a dance floor upstairs (we didn't see that). Overall, the place is really cool. I will concur that our minimal encounter with staff was less that stellar. Not sure why there were all the security guys mean mugging ayerone. Recommend this place for a drink and some grub.

Good drinks! Good vibe!…read more Stopped here for drinks on a Saturday night and the place was popping! We had a group of five and we were lucky to score some stool/bar seating right up front. The prices were very reasonable! Drafts were $7 and some cocktails were $11. The bartenders were super friendly and polite and talented! I really enjoyed watching them prepare five drinks at once without loosing a beat! The music was also great! They were rocking early 2000s jams. I ordered their penecilin cocktail which had ginger, honey, coconut and lemon with whiskey and it was delicious!! Everyone else enjoyed their drinks and we had a great time!

In full transparency it has been 2-3 years since my first and last visit to Water Witch. I noticed this in my drafts and thought I should complete my review. That said, I think I hyped this place up in my head too much before my visit because of the James Beard nod. So when it didn't quite hit the mark for me, I was disappointed. It's quite an intimate bar. By that I mean small space inside. The main bar has seating of course and there are a few seating areas directly behind the barstool area. There is a small walkway that separates the bar and the seating area. So the seating area is looking straight forward at the bartenders and the backs of people on barstools. I felt like the people behind me were staring into my soul lol, but that's a me problem ha. It's a modern design and beautifully decorated. I had two drinks. One from the menu and one that I told the bartender what I liked and disliked. He then made a drink based upon my taste. In my opinion it tasted similar to the one from the menu, which was disappointing because I was hoping for something different. There was one bartender that evening and one bar back, so even with the few people at the bar (I'd say 6-7 including me and a guest) and the 4 people seated behind us. It took some time to get his attention and order a drink. Which is part of the reason I only had two drinks. I would probably give this place another try since it's been some time since I've been there. As I always like to say. Stop in and judge for yourself.

Dishonest menu - items marked gluten free when cooked in shared fryer…read more We ate here multiple times during a conference. My wife is gluten intolerant and dairy allergic. On our first visit she informed the waiter of this, and he acknowledged. The menu doesn't have much for food, but is clearly marked with allergen information like gf, DF etc. The fries on the menu have a clear "gf" beside them, and the waiter said they were gluten free, so she ordered them. The fries were quite tasty. On the second visit she informed the new waiter of her allergies and ordered the fries again. On our third visit, when she ordered the fries the waitress helping us described that they are cooked in a shared fryer. We pushed back that we weren't told this on previous orders, and she didn't know what to say but asserted the shared fryer. I spoke to the hostess and manager and the manager gave me a passive "Ill coach the team" comment without acknowledgement of the seriousness of marking a menu item "gf" when it is not due to the dryer.
