You walk in to wood paneled walls and a staircase leading to the loft area upstairs The bar encompasses the real estate on the first floor. I'm obsessed with the vibe at Melancholy. It's so moody, cozy and thoughtfully curated. The bartender Cam is wonderful and very attentive. I ordered the Wrecking Ball and really enjoyed it. It was a bit sweeter than I was expecting, but delicious nonetheless. The PO Boxes they have are SO cute and such a nice touch. I ended up taking home a little note that resonated with me. Celebrated Valentine's Day here! It was my first time and I came to support my friend Alex who shucks amazing oysters as a pop-up around town. I had a reservation as the bar has a more intimate vibe with limited seats. I overheard others having to wait over an hour without a reservation. We got some oysters and ordered a few drinks. The vibe is cute and the decor is lovely. The drinks arrived promptly and I enjoyed the Valentine's Day special with passion fruit. The other drink from the regular menu was not memorable. read more

They do validate parking which is helpful. Service: Quick and friendly. Just takes a bit since there can be a line. Drinks: So so good. Their alcoholic and n/an options alike were delicious. Definitely worth sampling them all. They also have some seasonal cocktails as well. Food: Small app menu. You can order pretzels from the place next door and they'll deliver it straight to the bar! Giving my cheerful flowers to this charming and beautiful new bar in the Post District. Everything is truly curated with such thoughtful approach, from the door handles to the lighting to the bathroom signs. You can tell there was a lot of love put into the creation of this space, and the cocktail menu reflects that. There was a private event happening upstairs when we visited, so I didn't get to see the upper level, but we snagged two barstools and were gawking at how cool the vibe was. I asked for a dirty martini and was told their house martini made with shishito peppers was amazing, so we gave it a go and WOWOW. These shishito martinis were so classy and savory with a perfect drip of olive oil. Our service was fast and the hostess who greeted us was so sweet and welcoming. We parked in the post district parking garage and got free parking with validation, which was a huge plus in this area of town. I'd highly recommend Melancholy to anyone looking for a new upscale bar with moody ambiance, crafted cocktails, and a more intimate bar experience. read more

Stumbled upon this place on NYE last minute and it was such a gem of a find! Both upstairs and downstairs have their own charm, but it's a very charming and moody place. Perfect for a date night. Melancholy is another amazing cocktail and lounge option in downtown SLC. We discovered them by accident while walking to another establishment. The gorgeous bar peeking through picture window got our attention. They've been open only a few months and are doing so many things well. The space is small but intimate, creative and just what we didn't know we were looking for. They have a small bar upstairs as well, very cozy and perfect for a date night. Their servers were all very friendly, clearly happy to working there and so glad to see everyone who walked in, new face or one they remember. We chatted with everyone behind the bar downstairs and immediately wished we had Melancholy back home in Denver. Their craft cocktail menu is small but easily stands out for those in the know. These aren't your standard ingredients and their recipes will delight you. I'm not a fan of gin but the Jonny was so well made, I could be there. Gorgeous place. I had a very disappointing experience. The space was extremely crowded with no clear place to stand or line up, which already made things uncomfortable. I waited about 20 minutes to be served, only to watch a group of girls standing in front of me get served drinks in the same spot . A female bartender told me to move and said I needed to go to the front to be served, even though I had been waiting there for 20mins. Mind you her attitude was so rude and entitled. When I spoke up and pointed out that others had just been served right here, her response was rude, and she then refused to serve me altogether. She went to complain to a coworker while giving me hostile looks, which only escalated the situation. A male bartender then made an unnecessary and rude comment to me based on information that was not accurate, without even asking for my side of the story. We know how fake tears can put the innocent in harms way. Disgusting What made this even more upsetting was that three men standing next to me witnessed the entire interaction and apologized to me for how I was treated. I was completely appalled by the lack of professionalism, fairness, and basic respect. No customer should be treated this way. There biases are loud! read more

The location is quirky and cool, drinks are great but service is lacking. May be due to being somewhat new. Would be cool to rent for a private event. Just ask for validation on garage parking or you'll end up with a $40 charge at the end of the night on top of drinks and dinner. read more

The service is really nice. We like the bartender who works at the bar upstairs as she's very professional and nice. The cocktails are fun and sophisticated, but are priced fairly. The wine selection is also nice, and they are not stingy like some bars seem to be. I like the Coyote (very tequila forward) and Granny Panties (tastes like apple pie) and the Malbec on the menu. The decor and ambiance are both really great-- it's a more classy, mature environment and not so divey. It's a great spot for a date. read more

So I actually have been dying to go to the spa and I'm truly believed that a bar is led by the customer service and the the interior of the business I believe that those things create an ambience, a unique experience, but overall the bar was gray, however, when I ordered a drink and asked it to be remade, the bartender immediately with an attitude responded that I would have to pay for the drink in order for them to remake it, which honestly was not an issue cause I could've given that drink to my friend, but it was the way that this Bartender just decided to be so passive aggressive immediately. It really set the tone for about 10 minutes until I decided I was just going to go outside and enjoy my drinks and use another bartender but definitely feel like she could've provided a better response and I would've been OK with it. read more

We decided to try Melancholy because it was within walking distance of our hotel and the photos online looked nice. It was way better than the photos showed, but more than anything, Natalie was amazing. She is their sommelier and is a great asset. We had great wine, and then some amazing champagne that wasn't on the drink list yet. She was fun to talk with, super attentive (not just to us, to everyone), and clearly earned her Sommelier title. They are trying to bring in small batch makers of various wines and spirits and even after only being open for a month, they are picking up some great unique beverage options.
