My first time here! Worth the 20 minute wait time on Saturday morning for a table. Our server, Seth, was excellent. He was very helpful in explaining the dishes and helping us make our choices. His recommendations were absolutely 100% . I had the vegetarian sweet potato & kale& brussell sprouts dish with korean influences. So yummy & more than enough to take home. I have been curious about this place for quite some time, so we ventured out on a wet Saturday evening to give it a try. I was not disappointed. My wife ordered the Steak and Eggs. The chipotle bacon brussel sprouts were out of this world good. She said the chimichurri steak was excellent as well. I grabbed the Fools Gold plate - 2 eggs, a side of bacon, and two drop biscuits with sawmill gravy. Their sawmill gravy is darn good, and those biscuits were perfect. I also got a side of their Yukon potatoes. Those things are nicely seasoned, and very tasty. Our server, Seth, was top notch. Since it was our first visit, he took the time to explain the menu to us, and our glasses never ran empty. Serving sizes for our meals were very good - we did not walk away hungry. The space is decent, but it can get a little loud when they are busy. Will absolutely come back again. Worth the drive to Union, KY to give it a try! read more

So many stars, I don't know where to start. Saw this place on Yelp - gave it a try for my birthday, and was not disappointed. Three hungry dudes came in for brunch and we couldn't decide between Gold Shoes and Trail Pickins, so we got both (if you thought 7 biscuits between three of us was enough, think again). We especially liked the Creole and Goetta gravies. The Peppercorn one was just okay. The pickles in the Trail Pickins were fantastic - as were both jellies and butter. I kind of scoffed at the jelly/butter assortment (do people really get this?) - answer: Yes. And you should too! The entrees were also fantastic. I think the consensus among us was we would all get the Steak and Eggs if we came back. The Oregon Trail was a healthier option for sure - the shrimp and grits were great too - but man, that steak with chimichurri was fantastic! We also got a dessert, but that may have been one too many biscuits for us. It was a birthday splurge, but probably not again - just because we were so full from the appetizer biscuits and the generous portions in the entrees! Service was excellent. The biscuits themselves are pretty good. But it's the dozens of clever ingredient combinations on their loaded biscuits that makes this a worthy diversion three miles off the nearest interstate. The different gravies are okay, but the fried chicken is the real highlight of any topping I've ever sampled here. And the seasoned potato wedges are some of the best I've eaten in my lifetime! The chicken and sawmill gravy were a bit too salty for our "low sodium" taste buds but we loved the espresso maple syrup that brought the whole dish together. Ok this is officially my favorite place. Been a year since last going (time flies) and when we showed up, Nancy and her big smile greeted us. After talking she remembered us from last time we were there. As many people as they have come thru their doors, she actually remembers everyone. Food was awesome and we chatted with Nancy the whole time, as it was a slow day. Don't live close so it's a hike getting there, however need to suck it up and go more often. Stopped in for my favorite which is the Oregon Trail. My girlfriend got the waffle with shrimp and grits and she loved her food. The Oregon trail is gluten free and vegan without the chicken and full of vegetables! It's by far my favorite item on the menu. My only complaint was the fries - they were so salty I could barely eat them. I did share feedback with the manager and they confirmed something had went wrong in the kitchen & comped the sandwich as an apology. The Mother Load: chicken & biscuits.. you can't go wrong! Still plenty tasty! Accoutrements include blackberry jam, honey butter and house-made pickles. The chicken biscuit sandwiches seem to be a popular order. OMG! What a place. First, the restaurant has a real comfortable feel to it. Love the furniture and decorations in the place. The service was top notch and we were constantly being checked on. Now to the food. Wow, is all I can say. I had the Motherload, which is a biscuit waffle and fried chicken. Im pretty sure it was pressure friend chicken, because of how great it tasted. Flavor was over the top. I also had the campfire greens, which were a perfect combo of heat and flavor as well. Holy cow, this was an amazing lunch. A CincySaver got us out to Boomtown Biscuits and Whiskey in Union but I can assure you that we will be back. My husband and I each ordered the Yukon, a fried chicken sandwich topped with sawmill gravy (sausage), smoked cheddar and bacon and served in between the most delicious biscuit I've ever tasted. The sandwich, which our server correctly described as a fork and knife sandwich, comes with either Yukon fries or smoked cheddar grits. First, the biscuit - it's perfect - crispy crunchy all along its outside and gorgeously fluffy on the inside. My husband had the fries and I had the grits, which were so lovely and cheesy and very satisfying on a day with a hint of fall in the air. I had the Folgers Cup cocktail, a very easy drinking coffee, bourbon and bourbon cream treat invented by the bartender who was also our attentive, excellent server, who knew a ton about the Gold Rush that inspires Boomtown's menu, decor, serving plates and more. My husband had the Gold Rush which features lemon juice, Rye and herbed honey which he found a bit too tart for his liking but I enjoyed. Our water came in a recycled bourbon bottle (nice touch) and our food arrived on aluminum miner's plates, completing a unique Gold Rush vibe. We moved to the Florence-Union area earlier this year, and had the best surprise when we discovered a second location of Boomtown was just five minutes away from our home! Bummed that the original Pendleton location closed -- but we consider ourselves lucky that we can dine at the closer location to us anytime! We've tried just about everything on the menu at this point. My favorite is the Rhine Poutine -- it's arguably the best poutine in Greater Cincy! My fiancé's go-to is always the Yukon -- because you can never go wrong with fried chicken on a biscuit. We also always start with an order of Trail Pickins, and sometimes even take an order to-go because these biscuits are THAT good. We also adore the biscuit donuts -- what a fun dessert to an already delicious brunch. An honorable menu mention has to be the Oregon Trail. The Brussels sprouts also had a weird taste. They were overcooked, too sweet, oily, and almost had the flavor of coffee in it. Let's start by saying, Cincinnati truly lost a gem. My first visit was when they were located downtown Cincinnati. I had been looking forward to returning when I made it back to Cincinnati only to find out they had moved to KY. They make the best biscuits I've ever had (Kitchen Social, second)... buttery, soft, crumbly interior with crisp edges. Chef's kiss. I've only had the Yukon. The fried chicken breast has a delicate seasoned batter and juicy all-white meat inside. Breasts can easily be overcooked but this was perfect. The potato wedges that accompanied served hot with a Cajun seasoning. Obviously, not a light meal by any means but delicious, nonetheless. I ordered an old fashioned and it was also good.
