Just loved our breakfast experience at Sis's on a Saturday morning. What a cute space that was overflowing with regulars. It was our first visit to this establishment and it was obvious that so many others had found it before us. I got blueberry pancakes which were hot and delicious plus their homemade biscuits which were very tasty. The biscuits came with a homemade peach jam which I enjoyed. The reason for 3 stars was due to lack of service and the length of time we had to wait on our food to be brought to our table which was over an hour. Due to this we won't be back. read more

The only negative is I asked for sunny side up eggs and the eggs were raw? Like still white and runny. Didn't have it in me to send them back. The only bright spot was our waitress. She was great. Other than that there's no reason to go back. I ordered the Jersey steak sandwich and I literally spit it out in my napkin. I found this place looking for another brunch place by accident. We were welcomed. The wait staff was kind and helpful (the lady that waited on us was AWESOME!!). The entrees were hot and delicious. This hidden gem was perfect for brunch (served until 4:30p). They have a very extensive menu (something for everyone). The decor is really interesting - hand drawn sketches of country musicians. Worst service I have personally ever experienced and first time leaving a place before even getting my food. Ordered and waited for 30 minutes, the couple that was seated long after us received their food before I did and had only been there for maybe 5 minutes. I like this place. I have been here a bunch of times. The place is really small so it's Really loud when a band plays. I like it but it is annoying to some. Table talk is almost impossible. They do fried fish, baked fish, seasoned fish, filet of sole, shrimp and po boys. I love that big ok fish sandwich. The fried shrimp were fantastic. It takes awhile for food on a busy night, 45min. Or so, but there's entertainment. The wait staff isn't very fast but two of them take care of the room. I will visit again and again. read more

Service was not good for the amount of servers to table ratio. The food was very greasy and my stomach hurt immediately after eating. I didn't even finish my plate. I would recommend eating at Lana's or Gourmet Chili instead for price, quality of food, and service. read more

Our first time here. Initially we were among just a few guests and by the time we left, it was standing room only. And I can understand why! Service was prompt, mannered and knowledgeable. I had easy over eggs, home fried potatoes and a muffin. My friend had the same, with a side of Goetta. We both agreed that everything tasted delicious. Our server visited our table numerous times to check on us and fill coffee cups. Plenty of free parking right outside the door. read more

We waited at least 5 minutes before anyone approached our table - the restaurant was not crowded. we we're finally served drinks, but had to wait about 20 minutes before someone took our food order. Another 30 minutes our food was delivered: my husband's waffle was fine (not great), but my omelette was brown on the outside and the only cheese on it looked like it came from a can. It was disgusting! I don't plan on returning any time soon. read more

I can't comment on the food because it was never served to us. We went to check out the local eateries and stopped to grab just some toast, hash browns, and eggs. Our first server wasn't apparently a server at all and could only get us coffees. When they finally took our order, there was no mention of a wait time. After sitting for over half an hour. I went to ask on the status of our food, she started to get an attitude and said "well there's still people ahead of you" and "you have not been waiting for 30 minutes" and then proceeded to give me a dirty look when I mentioned we had and was given an excuse of "well we're busy on Sundays" One lady was professional and apologized and said to just go ahead and leave and not to worry about the drinks. I understand that brunch places are busy on Sundays, it's not my first rodeo, but the lack of communication and empathy was the only bad taste left in my mouth. Vegetarian Omlet dry wheat toast and fresh cold orange juice. All served up hot and tasty. Sandy Schweitzer and her crew used the 9 week Lock down to renovate the interior dinning room. It all looked great. Complete with City provided new brick stamped sidewalks out front. The 800 block of Monmouth st. shines like a new penny! read more

Groupons, Cincysavers and other deals help get me out and about and that's how my husband and I ended up as Sis's on Monmouth. Our schedule was weird, so we walked in for dinner at 5 on a Saturday. Understandably, it was quiet but we had the server and chef to ourselves -- not a bad thing. I opted for the special -- a Texas melt -- that our server swore by. She was right. It featured grilled boneless skinless chicken breast and tons of onions, slathered in cheese and barbecue sauce and served in between grilled Texas toast, with a side of thick floury fries. My husband had the half rack of ribs, rightly talked down from the full rack by the chef. It comes with two side, my husband chose the most daintily floured onions rings I ever seen -- not smothered in batter but rather lightly dredged -- and the scalloped potatoes. The meat fell from the bones and it was all delicious. Not the healthiest meal we've ever had but as a once a year indulgence, it hit all the right spots. The restaurant is cozy -- a Newport mainstay open for decades and offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has brink walls, pencil drawings of some of country music's biggest stars and a stage. The band was setting up as we were eating and the place started to fill. Would love to go back one day for dinner and music. read more

We were finally acknowledged and seated after a group that came in after us and got seated. My wife had to clean off the table. Coffee and sweet tea arrived promptly. No silverware. No menu. Two servers, on three different occasions when asked said they would bring silverware and never did. After forty minutes we were given menus and still no silverware. My wife had to go and get our silverware. She literally had to stir her coffee with her finger. Fast forward twenty minutes, now we're at an hour and we were just asked for our orders. After another forty five minutes of waiting, we left. We walked next door to the chili joint, ordered our food, ate and paid within twenty minutes and walked past Sis's and seen the four tables of people that came in after us with their tables still empty. If you're looking a loud and long wait, come to Sis'. The food was expected diner food. Hot when served. However an hour for eggs and potatoes isn't quite what I expected. Plus one for hot food, plus one for not having a smoking section but minus 3 for over an hour wait and a preoccupation with all staff and constantly asking if we put in our drink order. My wife had an omelette and she was able to add all she wanted to it. I had the banana pancakes with a side of bacon. Both were very good. Very reasonably prices breakfast. We went for Sunday morning brunch. Very busy with regular crowd. Staff knew customers by their first names and what their regular orders where. As an "outsider" it seemed hectic and took awhile to get seated and our orders placed. Food arrived promptly and was very good. I went here with friends for the first time today about 2 hours before one of us had to be somewhere else thinking this would be plenty of time. Wrong. We didn't see our server even once after we put our order in. She never came by to check drinks or tell us the wait was gonna be a little long. I couldn't even remember what server was ours because no one was even paying attention to our table. It took so long that we had to leave before they even started cooking our food. Ridiculous. I don't know what the food is like (everyone else's food smelled great) but the service is shite. Don't go unless you have loads of time. Wife and I stopped there for lunch today with no real previously set expectations. She got the breakfast special, I got a burger & fries w/ a side of onion rings. Food was brought out quick and it was all excellent. Onion rings were not what I expected at all, almost more like a blooming onion taste than onion ring but they were delicious. Service was excellent and it seemed like we had 6 plates, and our food was $17. Definitely a lot of bang for your buck. Highly recommend. read more
