I stopped in yesterday for a late lunch. I sat at the bar for a few minutes before Amy, the bartender arrived to take my order. They have a great selection of craft beers on tap and I tried the Barleycorn's Crazy Norse NEIPA. It was a pretty good hazy. For lunch I ordered the 10 Doc Style Chicken Wings. The wings are very small and were very mild. The ranch was good. This is a typical sports bar with bar food. They have a large outdoor area which was enclosed, but I imagine they open it up when the weather gets warmer. Full bar with plenty of TV's for watching your favorite sports teams. read more

Well, that was disappointing. Stopped in to watch a little basketball and have some wings. ordered their popular style, double fried and they came out way overcooked. In fact the first wing I took, which was a wing not a leg, basically disintegrated in my mouth where the bones broke up and I had a mouthful of bone and chicken meat, and I had to spit it all out into a napkin from there I was picking meat from the wings afraid to have another situation. I didn't want to choke on a chicken bone. Bartender asked how I was doing, I shared my experience and he offered to buy me a beer. that was disappointing since I left half the wings, only ate a few chips that I had ordered to go with my wings. basically $22 meal that I gave up for a $3 compensation. poor experience. Wife and I ate there last night for burger week. Dined outside under a fan, food was good and fries were hot and tasty. Steve the outside bartender got our drinks, she got a pineapple bomb and loved it I got a pint than another. NIce and cold, it was the Norse's beer. The burgers were big and tasty. Our server Samuel (Sam) was very polite and attentive and despite being busy paid close attention to all his tables. He may sure everything was okay and had napkins and water for us. The food was for the best part MEH. The French onion soup was band and flavorless save for the weird after taste. The service was onpoint and tentative but it couldn't save the stadium quality burger. It tasted like a frozen patty that was over cooked. The fried were good though. We visited for lunch on a Wednesday. The menu was sticky snd covered in food, so was the stand up advertisements on the table. I was not a fan of how the whole restaurant was empty except for 4 tables and they sat all four of us on top of each other even though we had three different servers so it was not very peaceful. There was constant servers coming and going but after our meal was complete and our server started taking plates, I asked for the bill and it took him over ten minutes. As for food I got the fish sandwich, served on marble bread, the bread was soggy, lettuce wilted and tomato was all core. Was not very edible. Atmosphere and waitress excellent. However, I have a feeling they are pulling a fast one on customers when it comes to the menu item offered called grouper. Anyone who has been to the gulf knows that grouper is a more meaty, flaky fish. What Barleycorn's is serving I would say is white fish or something other than grouper. One flag is the price of the meal is very reasonable. If this was True grouper it would be more expensive I would say. Second flag is that the fish served is flat. Almost like Tilapia or Whitefish. On 5/23/25 we had dinner at Barleycorn. Our waiter was Andrew. I am on a limited salt diet. But a lot of menu items are high in salt. But I found one that was a veggie wrap. But it did not contain any meat. I asked Andrew if he could have the kitchen add a piece of grilled chicken without salt to the wrap. So, he did. What he brought back was absolutely delicious and well within my salt diet. Andrew went above an beyond to service a customer's special dietary needs. You do not see that much any more. Thank you Andrew for a great job. He said it looked so good that he was thinking of having one for his dinner later that evening. You may want to think about adding this sandwich as a new menu item. read more

This was my second experience at a Barleycorns... Their wings did not live up to my first experience. And that's why I went back. However, revisited the original location that I had been to, and sadly the menu had changed, my favorite items were gone, and the wings were not good then either. So I'm not sure what's going on with this restaurant chain however it probably has to be my last option to go back and that makes me sad because my very first experience was so wonderful. read more

We went to Barleycorns in Florence, Ky for the Mother's Day brunch. My reservation was for 11 people and when we were seated, we were told they put us at 2 different table. We should have been told ahead of time they were going to split us up. The brunch was pretty good with scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, sausage, waffles, danish, muffins and a large array of fresh fruit. There was also wonderful soft biscuits along with gravy but the gravy was very watered down. I would probably go to Mother's Day brunch but I will make sure we can all sit together! read more

My family and I went to celebrate mother's day, sunday may 11th. The food was not what was advertised on online. The food that they did provide was below school lunch quality. The chicken was absolutely disgusting I had to spit it out. The manager did absolutely nothing about our inconvenience even though I did not eat the food besides the bite I spit out. Was still charged $20.99 per plate. We have celebrated past fathers days here, and have never had such terrible quality food. read more

My son was served French onion soup this evening with no broth. Not joking, literally zero broth. It wasn't soup. Just sopping wet bread that tasted like a salty beef bouillon cube and a pile of cheesy croutons on top of that. It was inedible. My husbands wings were so dry. I've never tasted such dry ass chicken wings. Truly terrible. Roast beef sandwich was sad. You can get a better one at Arby's. read more

It's easy to see why this place is a local favorite. It has great "local vibe" especially when weather permits outside seating. The menu offers a wide ranging selection; everyone 8-80 can find something: the service is always friendly and fast. We have eaten here many times and it never disappoints. Rough first time! Will probably be our last! Just moved to the area and was excited to try it. Upon arrival we ordered drinks and apps and were served quickly, once we ordered our meals we were ignored completely for the next hour I finally stopped another server and asked for our food to be made to go. The server came out within minutes letting us know our food was ready, we asked for it the be to go since we had waited so long and have young children. We paid full price only to get home and be missing a meal completely. Very disappointed in the service and the fact we tried to stop our server multiple times to order more drinks while being ignored. read more

I love Barleycorns! I eat there almost every weekend. Love the ribs, love the burgers, and in the past , i have loved their Father's Day Brunch. However, Mother's Day Brunch 2025 was awful!!!! It tasted like a bland school lunch. We made reservations because they advertised, ribs, chicken, maple ham, and pork. It was a Hefty price for what we actually got. Chicken tenders that reminded me of the fake white meat from a microwavable Tyson frozen meal, No ribs as advertised, scrambled eggs from a powder mix, bacon that was crumbled like it was meant for a salad topping, and cold croissants. I was sure you couldn't mess up Belgium waffles but it was chewy. VERY Disappointing! I will not return for any "special brunch" celebrations they have in the future and Advise you not to either. Service was good and I tipped the girl 20 percent. After all it was not her fault and she is tying to make a living. We did talk to the manager about what was advertised and what was actually served but he just said he didn't get the menu that I was showing him. DUDE, it was on every table in the restaurant. Something was terribly wrong with the quality of the food today. I actually ended up driving my mother through a fast food restaurant after we left. read more

My husband and I visit Barleycorn's Florence about once a week. We love the atmosphere of their patio. The food is casual and satisfying. Today and last week this same day ( Thursday), we entered the patio and found there to be no serving staff. We then went to the bar, and the bartender then served us.This week the same but worse. No staff outside at the patio - not even a bartender! And so we went inside and the hostess said it's okay to be seated at a hightop table. We waited quite a while. The hostess and a young man were at the checkin station talking, but noone acknowledged us nor even said "we will be right with you". We waited a little longer then left and went elsewhere. We will likely not return due to the non-service situation. Such a shame. read more

The Barleycorn's mini-chain has been a part of my life basically forever... growing up, my family would occasionally go for a casual dinner at the Cold Spring location. When I was home from college, that same location became a "go to" bar to meet up with friends. And years later, there is now a location in Florence very close to my parent's house - so inevitably I find myself there every time I visit. Every Barleycorn's is comfortable, not uncomfortably loud, friendly and sporty. There are lots of TVs and there is always a game of some sort playing. You didn't come for the food - although it's not terrible. The beer selection is just right and you can get a pitcher or a mini pitcher (which just looks adorable and is appropriately named a "personal pitcher") and it's always going to be cold, fresh beer. Although the places are busy, you can almost always get a bar stool or a table unless there is a big game (read - any University of Kentucky sport) on. My family and I came for an "appetizers only" meal, which is what we typically utlitize Barleycorn's for. Fried eggplant was not bad - sometimes it's really good here and sometime's it's just OK. This was just OK. Potato skins were a little disappointing -- I seem to recall these being MUCH better (nostalgia perhaps?) and almost like potato cups instead of the generic standard issue skins we received on this visit. Mozzarella sticks were also very basic and typical. My parents liked the chicken wings but I prefer my buffalo wings much wetter and thought these were a bit dry. Service is always fast and friendly. It was an unsurprising meal from a place that has been reliably "OK" for a long time. You don't go to Barleycorn's for fine dining - it's more for fun and sustenance. You're going to need SOMETHING to eat with that pitcher of beer. This'll do just fine. read more

Decided to go to Barleycorns as the weather was great and they have a patio. Service was spot on from the moment we arrived. Decided to try something from the Lent menu and had the salmon. I was a little leery because the price was low. However, the quality was not and the dish was outstanding! Felt like I got a great value for my money. My son had the wings- doc style. This is one of those places that's kind of hit or miss, depending on what your order. The environment and atmosphere is a definitely a plus, though, and that coupled with the proximity to our house is definitely a draw. The outdoor patio has plenty of space and seating, and is always very lively. They always have a pretty good assortment of local craft beer, and their cocktails are pretty solid. When it comes to the food, it's kind of run of the mill, for me. The fish stick appetizer, the chicken sandwiches, and the burgers are all worth trying, but I tend to stay away from everything else. read more

We've continued to eat here because it is convenient to our home and we like to sit outside, weather permitting, but I can't do it anymore. Last night I ordered the Jacked Up Chicken sandwich that came with a dry piece of cheese, a soggy onion ring and skimpy piece of lettuce. The chipotle mayo was missing. The side of broccoli had a weird taste. I also visited this past Friday when BC's rolled out a new POS system on busy Friday night during the NCAA tournament. Food and bar took forever. I ordered a large dock style wings, got a regular. The waitress returned them to the kitchen and when I got my food back I believe the original 5 had been thrown back into the fryer as they were really overdone. We had 6 people at the table, none of use got food at the same time. All of us were done and those two were still waiting on their food. We have been eating at BC's since the Lakeside location opened in the late 80's so it's a bummer to move on but even the most loyal customers can take only so much bad food at high prices. read more

I go a couple times a month for the doc style, double fried chicken wings with bourbon bbq sauce. Also, one of the few places that has KY bourbon barrel beer on tap. We visited Barleycorn's last night during the UK game for dinner and had a great experience. This is a good restaurant for families and groups with picky eaters since the menu is large and full of typical American food. We were seated quickly and our appetizers arrived quickly as well. We ordered wings dox style and they were great. We also ordered the queso with chips and pretzels and it was very good. For dinner, I ordered the pepper jack burger. It was a little undercooked for medium well but was delicious anyway. The toppings were perfect. The fries were good but needed to be salted. My husband got the chicken bacon macaroni and cheese and it was so yummy. Definitely not something to order if you're counting calories but we hadn't eaten all day and it filled him up. The kids meal was good too; the chicken fingers came with fresh fruit and fries. I didn't know we'd get charged another $2.50 for my son's chocolate milk, though. During the basketball game, the restaurant was quite loud, more like a sports bar. Our toddler was scared a couple of times by the noise/cheering, so you may take that into account when visiting. We still had great service despite how busy it was. read more

Considering I grew up in Northern Kentucky, I have fond memories of going to Barleycorn's when I was a kid. So I eagerly suggested getting take-out from this Barleycorn's location when I was visiting over the weekend, but I really wish I would have left Barleycorn's happily in my past. I ordered the Wildcat sandwich, which includes a crispy fried chicken patty in medium buffalo sauce, topped with mushrooms, cheddar cheese and bleu cheese dressing. I ordered this sandwich without the cheddar cheese, though. And what I received was a chicken patty that seemed way over-processed. The consistency was very tough. It took some work to bite through it, and when I did the chicken would come apart not where I was biting down, if that makes any sense. It just seemed really unnatural. The buffalo sauce didn't have much of a taste to it, and the mushrooms were tiny and also not flavorful -- as if they had been sitting in a can for too long. As you can imagine, I did not finish my sandwich. My boyfriend and his family were not as unimpressed with their meals as I was with mine, though the consensus was that Barleycorn's food isn't anything special.
