All tables are on their home's patio. The food is not adventurous but it's classically prepared and presented. Not cheap but not exorbitant and the minimal wine list is carefully chosen and remarkably affordable. Our menu was a bright summer salad, buttery soft chateaubriand, and cheesecake. The modestly sized plates were licked clean but, personally, I would have liked slightly larger salad or app. If they have their housemade Limoncello, order it! The owners are magnificent hosts. There was only one negative thing: being woken by the smell of sunrise potatoes being made for breakfast. Revenge was gotten by eating the culprit so all was good in the end. The Trolls: there are 5 trolls on an easy path on the outskirts of the Gardens. If all you want to do is see the trolls, an able bodied person could manage in about an hour. If you're slower or need assistance, it would take longer. There is a shuttle for those who want/need it to get down to the trolls farther out. There's a ton more to do than just see the trolls though. Everything else: There's a bunch of stops throughout the Gardens that kept our 3 kids (8, 11, 12) occupied. We spent a lot of time building fairy gardens, enjoying the view at the dock, and we walked out to the Guardian of the Seeds installation. The grounds themselves are meticulously maintained and it would be beautiful to walk around any day.

The children's field guide was also an excellent way to keep the littles excited and searching. We loved all the wooded paths and thoughtful and well curated immersive areas from the sensory garden to the area with music inspired by the local outdoors. The children's garden is also well put together, themed after local books and with an interactive activity each, which was such a neat idea. We only wished that the maps were a bit clearer (ie they differed even better the children's map and the main one, one did not list names of the trolls, etc). We spent 2.5 hours here on our way between Bar Harbor and Portland and wished we had more time and lived closer!

With the heavy holiday traffic, we were very lucky to find a parking space. Once we found a spot, we were off to find a place for lunch as we, by that time, were very hungry. We literally stumbled upon this place. We try to avoid "tourist trap" restaurants, but in this case, we went in because we were ready to eat anything. We are very glad we made this choice. We were greeted by Heather who pointed out the specials and after some discussion revealed that she was a local who knew the area well. Our lunch choices were excellent. The Oyster Po Boy and the Cod sandwich were full of flavor and certainly fresh. One note not to miss. The dining room has large windows offering beautiful views of Boothbay Harbor, which in itself is worth a special mention. We could view the Spruce Point Resort which we enjoyed on our last visit to Boothbay Harbor, a real treat for us. However the female bartender ignored our presence. Several other people entered the bar to get drinks and go out on the deck with them. We were told by the bar back to wait in line behind the people that came in after us. Kind of weird so I said well that's not fair as there are now ten people in line that came in after us. He told the bartender and she poured our wine and printed out tab and sat it out front of us without saying a word. I paid the top and left her a tip. It was beautiful weather so we decided to go sit on the covered front patio in the Adirondack chairs. About five minutes later, the bartender came outside and reprimanded us out front of several other patrons for taking our drinks out of the bar. We were very embarrassed, however, complied, and got up and went inside to the bar to finish our wine. Not sure why she's single to us out. I will not be returning to this establishment.
