I like to wear bright colors and dance till everything is soggy. I don't like to be the center of attention though - I usually dance in dark corners and can only dance if the music is good. I literally stop on the dancefloor when it is bad because I can't "fake it". I give this party 5 stars because they do a solid job of creating a party that has something for everyone. Mash-ups, dark dance floor, eccentric dancers on stage, Photobooth (with a creative and fun photographer), and good vibes. Los Angeles used to be filled with great dance parties all over the place. Now they are few and far between. Not to be a negative nancy but here are my gripes - When they are at the downtown location - it's really hard to dance on an incline. When they are at the echoplex - there is no where to put ur drink down and if u do the workers snatch it up quick. Some of the mash-ups blow. It's like everything has been done and they're just trying weird things together to be the first to put AC DC with Kanye (both really hard to dance to because I hate dancing to 80's stripper music and Kanye's music only accompanies his lyrics so it's usually not that great). This is seriously a must-try experience if you enjoy bouncing dat ass.... I had so much fun here last night. We went for my friend's birthday party and we seriously just sweated it out all night. The go-go dancers on stage were on point and fabulous af. I love the fact that you can wear whatever the hell you want to this place and there doesn't seem to be much judgment. It's a place you go to when you just want to dance and not worry about impressing other surrounding Angelenos. The mashup music room was my favorite. They play some amazing jams!!!! We went the evening of the Taylor Swift mashups. It was a great, fun experience! Oh, $10 cover charge. If you get there before 10pm (I think they open 9:30pm) then it's $5. And there's a lot of that to talk about! The people who come here really care about the theme of the week. Cat party? Expect to see leopard-print leotards. Mardi Gras Fete? There will be beads. I love BLA because there's so much entertainment! There's a free photo booth with props, great music, stage dancers (props to RAID!), face paint, and, oh right, two bars: one is near the music, one is off in another quieter room! How can you *not* have a good time here, huh?? They usually have cheap drink specials; I had a "Bootie Shot" and it was $3. Not super strong but great to have in between periods of dancing! If you're looking to dress down and dance very ratchet, Bootie LA is the place. As you enter through the front doors there's a waft of heat and humid air reeking of human sweat. Ya know it's gonna get CRAY. The front of the stage can get very crowded, but the back has a bit more open space. Beware, you'll be sweaty at the end of the night cause there is no circulation / AC in this club, so wear something comfortable, light, and you don't mind getting nasty. Music that night was battle of the bands, with the DJ playing a remix of 90's pop classics with EDM beats. Let me tell you, dranks are CHEAP. Liquor up boys and girls. $10 Cover. Crowd is mixed, with older and younger people, gay and straight, any and all colors, shapes, and sizes. Seeing the diversity at Bootie was amazing and reminds you how wonderful LA can truly be, well DTLA at least, I wouldn't say that about West LA. I came to bootie LA for April!!! I missed last month's Bootie, but it's okay. I got my groove on for April. The resident DJ...Adrian and Mysterious D!! They are absolutely my most favorite...they combine such great music, and really know how to get the crowd going. I absolutely love them. This particular night they brought out a group of gold dancers again! Always fun to watch them perform. And there were two guest DJs from Germany who totally rocked! Perhaps they DJ at Bootie Munich or Bootie Heidelberg. I don't really come here to meet people...I mostly come here to DANCE! and have a little drink here and there. I seriously take it as my major workout for the month! If your a shy dancer...or you just suck...it really doesn't matter...everyone here has their own style, everyone is just having fun. Drink specials: - Cranberry and vodka = $3, but it's mostly cranberry...little on the vodka - Tecate Beer = $2 I can't make it on May 2nd for the next Bootie LA...but I will definitely try to catch the June one...it's the first Saturday of each month! Went there last night and what a fun night it was! The DJ's are amazing...the music kept me on my feet all night long. They were spining and mashing 80's hits, was awesome. The best thing is that the crowd is super chill...no pretentious Hollywood club crowd or super creepy guys who try to hit on you. Most the people here came to dance and I loved that! Come early and you get a free cd of the music. Its $5 per person before 10 pm. Street parking is readily available. It gets pretty hot inside and they do have a patio area but since I don't smoke, it wasn't an option as it was packed with the smoking crowd. They have a fun show towards midnight. Last night I saw a mummy, a pregnant woman pretending to give birth to Salt n Pepa's push it, a blond tall guy with a mustache dressed in drag, a fat dude moving like he was on fire!! They also had a live band playing amazing music for some time. Loved the music, the vibe and the atmosphere. I will definitely be back....It was AWESOME!! read more

WOW. This is totally my kind of dance club. Okay, I don't actually spend a lot of time in dance clubs, but if I DO, I want it to be Bootie LA!!! Our experience was at the Echoplex, which is a pretty awesome venue for this club. We ubered there and back from our hotel so we could have a drinking night, so can't talk about parking, but it was easy to get to from downtown LA. It's a decent sized club and they have two bars for your drinking pleasure. I actually thought the drinks were totally affordable, but I guess that means I usually drink in places that are charging way too much! We were there for the Beach Party night and it was so fabulous to hit a dance club and get to show up in casual beach attire instead of the usual fancy dress and high heels! Loved the photo booth, because lets face it, I'm a Yelper, I am into photo booths. Here's how it went down. We arrived early (nerds) and so it was pretty quiet. We got first pick of the candy strewn around on the tables and developed a rapport with my bartender for the night. The early part of the night had more old school music, 80s and 90s, which are my jams and then the music got a bit newer as the night progressed, but these were mash-ups so there was seriously a huge mix of different types of music. AWESOME. We spent most of the night dancing right up against the stage because it was hilarious to watch the RAID dancers up on the stage... they are a riot! Oh my god, I had the best time of my life here. Where else can i wear a t-shirt, jean shorts and my NIKES!?? Drinks were decent and priced well considering we're in LA, but just pre-game it! I'd actually have fun here sober too, which is great. I had the best time here, I can't rave about this place even more. I never danced so much in my life, sweat dripping, everything..and it's the first time where no one cared, and neither did i. So I've been wanting to check out B-LA for a while and finally came here a few weeks ago. It was fun! As already mentioned, it's a place where people just like to dance. There's a mix of folks in the crowd but it's mostly early 20s - early 30s. I did see some older ladies, probably 40-ish who looked really good for their age and were with some young guys - rock on. Some girls were dressed up like they were going out to a Hollywood club which seems a bit overdone for Echo Park, but whatever, that's what makes it a free for all I suppose. I was in my jeans and sneaks. There are some wonderfully amateur and entertaining dancers on stage, of various shapes and sizes, doing very random things. So if you're all snotty about your dancers, you shouldn't look. The mashups are fun, but sometimes I kinda got tired of the mashup and just wanted me some straight-up Depeche but oh well, it's a mashup party. The dance floor is dark-ish but it's a spacious venue and you can also dance near the tables in other parts of the place besides the dance floor, as people were doing. Oh, but the best part by far, was the free Pirate Booty they were handing out. I took a couple bags home with me, and they came in handy the other day when I was hungry for some snacks and had eaten all my jalapeno Cheetos. Club Bootie is the first Mashup Club in the U.S., and got its start in San Francisco, which is where I first found them. This club is 100% all mashups, all the time, and they attract some of the best DJs in the world, in part because the club's owners, Adrian and Mysterious D, have clubs in Paris, Munich, NYC, SF as well as LA. This isn't your typical LA club "scene", all are welcome, and there is a nice range of people that defy any stereotypes. Everyone is there to dance and have a good time, and yes, people are actually dancing on the dance floor, imagine that? They usually have a "live" show at midnight, I won't spoil it for you (and it's different each night), it's just something you have to experience for yourself. The club takes place at the Echoplex in Echo Park, it's a decent venue with reasonable drinks, but who cares? you go for the music and to dance. I was there recently for my birthday and got to meet Fred Schneider from the B52's who just happened to be hanging out that night. For those unfamiliar with the concept of "Mashup" I'll let Club Bootie Explain: ""So what's a mashup? What's a bootleg? It's pretty much all the same. I came here with a group of friends for a birthday and welcome back party and it was awesome. Small entrance fee of 5$ which is no big deal. No lines when we came which was around 10pm. Spacious dance room. Good music. It was diva night and all the mash ups were from great women singers including Beyonce, Madonna, Destiny's Child, Britney, etc! Such a throw back for me and I loved it. Drinks were a bit expensive but strong and tasty - got all the boys in our pretty cranked up. Nice people. And best of all, I came in a T-shirt, Jeans, and sneakers and danced my butt off all night COMFORTABLY! Will probably be back for another night out of town. I love love love love love this place. I'm a huge fan of dancing and pop remixes aka mashups. This was the perfect comboooooo! The only negative thing about this place was that the line was long and when I mean long, I mean around the corner long. If you decide to go, just make sure to get there well before 9:30. The music is loud, there are plenty of characters, the floor is packed (only up near the stage), and the air is moist. Next time I know for sure how this works, 1). The weirder the more everyone will probably like you! No seriously, I saw a lot of things last Saturday: a proposal, a man in dress that reminded me of the borat-suit (see link: http://bruneirugby.wordpress.com/2008/01/29/international-borat-suit-is-out/), banana costumes, a man dressed as a baker. And...I loved it all! 2). I'm wearing shorts, a tank, and running shoes next time I come cause nothing is worse when your tight skinny jeans and long sleeved shirt constrict your freedom of expression on the dance floor! 3). Dress up to the theme. At midnight, everyone in the club voted on who would be crowned Prom King, Prom Queen and Best Couple! It was like high school all over again 4). Get there before 10 pm. The good: The over all event is why I go: fun music, fun crowd! The bad: They moved to Los Globos. This club is SO HOT, the drinks are too expensive. The floor is constantly wet (drinks/sweat?), the stage is too small and too low. The best part of Bootie LA is watching the unique dancing on stage with outrageous costumes and just fun people doing their thing, leaving the crowd to feel and do the same! I have to say, I've never been to a club with such inventive and creative gogo dancers. I saw: 1. a mummy 2. a shirtless fat guy 3. an extremely tall guy dressed in cheer drag *bonus* for RAID dance crew performances!! Bootie is extremely entertaining and like other reviewers have said it's an EXCELLENT place to dance and party WITHOUT the pretentiousness of Hollywood crowds. The music is AWESOME. Better than most clubs in LA/Hollywood that I've been to. I've been TO my share of clubs in Los Angeles and Hollywood. This place is dark, hot, and everyone is moving. I didn't feel like I was in LA but what I imagine a gay club in a random town in the middle of Michigan would be like. I have never been to Michigan so I don't really know. Highlights of people watching would include two of the sexist Swedish men ever making out, a 2/10 with no shirt on hooking up with a girl who was puking in cups, fat chicks dressed as elves, and everyone moving. PRO 1. You can wear whatever you want (as long as it breathes), and you'll feel right at home. The vibe here is anything goes. 2. The free photobooth is a nice touch... However, after I checked the website (as of 2/7/13), I saw some of the more recent events did not have their photos posted yet. 3. The mashups are enjoyable, and the onstage entertainment is hilarious and high energy. The performers don't take themselves seriously, which makes the atmosphere really fun. 4. Unpretentious. 5. Awesome night of dancing. 6. Hot dog vendors hang around outside of the club, and those street dogs really hit the spot after a long night of dancing. CON 1. I got here at 10:30p, and the line was huge! It barely moved, and it took me an hour to get inside. The line continued to grow as I was waiting, and I'll bet that the majority of the people behind me hadn't gotten in or went home. 2. Parking is a mess. There's a free lot behind the Echoplex, but it fills up fast. I drove around the block three times, and finally gave up and did valet, which cost $9 without tip. 3. It is SUPER HOT & HUMID inside, and near the stage, you can barely move because there are so many people in a compact space. 4. During the peak hours, the bar area is swamped, and you've got to be EXTREMELY aggressive to grab a drink. 5. The bathrooms get nasty as the night progresses. They have an attendant, but she can't control what drunkards do in the stalls. 6. Men get grabby if you somehow get away from your group. OVERALL: Bootie LA is one of the most fun dance experiences you can have in LA, but show up early (like at nine) to avoid the line and get free parking. Echoplex, song mashups, sweaty, loud, oontse-oontse-oontse! $10 cover, stay long enough until you realize you are no longer in your early 20's and your ears begin to hurt from the loud music and the smell of baby prostitute in the air mixed with sweat makes you sneeze uncontrollably. We have our picture taken, sip on a gin and tonic, watch the amazing go-go dancers, dance a bit and realize it's time to move on. I see a street hot dog cart and I couldn't be happier. "Me da un jot dog con todo! CON TODO!!!!" (Translation: Give me a hot dog with all the fixings! EVERYTHING!" The hot dog gives me enough energy to carry on for the rest of the night. This place is interesting. All walks of life come here for bootie LA which is pretty awesome. The music was epic and the drinks were decently priced. Came for St Paddy's weekend and they had free airbrush tattoos. Not sure if that's a normal thing. Music was mash up hip hop/rap/80s music/EDM - loved all of it. However, the odor emitting from the hundreds of sweaty bodies is atrocious. Smelled like ass most of the time. This place gets packed which is cool, but the ventilation sucks! You know what, I'm torn. In theory, Bootie LA has the makings of a fun Saturday night: fun pop mashups, flamboyant costumes, shaking your booty like you just don't care. But honestly, it's an event that's more fun to hear about, or talk about, or reminisce about, than to actually experience. The mashups are definitely good. People-watchers will be in people-watching paradise (think: men you can't decide are "gay or just European?" and girls half-dressed in feathered/sequined bandeaus surrounded by those aforementioned men.) There was a cute photo booth set up with a photographer always at hand, and a giant bowl of condoms laid out next to the booth. Props for protection first. But, I don't know... the novelty wears off after about 10 minutes. Then you realize you just waited in a RIDICULOUS long line (like others have mentioned, wrapping around the block and then some) to feel suffocated by the amount of people, and the humid heat that fills the room. I felt miserable and sick whenever I tried to dance. Plus, there's the inevitable "on the prowl" vibe.. blegh. Maybe it was just overcrowded that night (it was the Valentine's theme, after all). OR maybe I'm just an 80 year old stuck in a twenty-something body. These derrrrn kids nowadays! See - even after articulating my thoughts, I'm still torn. "Meh. First off, this place is not pretentious at all. No waiting in line. Girls, no need to get all slutty up to get in. Bootie LA has a very diverse crowd. It's not about getting seen there, it's about having a good time. Bootie LA delivers on that. You will dance or at least be compelled to. It's the fact that you can dance around like a maniac while drunk off your ass with friends and have a good time. The music was actually pretty mediocre. Very few mash ups are like wow, okay, I can REALLY dance to this and I don't even have to be *that* drunk. And most mash ups here are just cringe-worthy and you have to be very drunk to go with it or just be the kind of person who can get weird with very little alcohol. I rated this place pretty high for what it is. A weird dance party. Plenty of space, no long line for the bathroom, good vibes, and cheap cover. The drinks were priced really high for a place like this though; $17 for an AMF?! This is going to sound mean and make me look really ugly inside, but this place looks like where the the rejects of nightclubs go to have fun. Think, Star Wars cantina scene but with crazy dancing. I have not been to many clubs before, but I am a frequent club go-er. I think out of all the clubs Ive been to, Echoplex and Exchange LA are rated the best out of my list. Echoplex has a nice and chill environment. People there are just themselves, and really down to earth. Also, they arent afraid of being creative with their outfits, and they arent those snobby people who just go there to 'dress to impress'. I understand that going to a club, half of the game is to impress, but these people have the creative side and the 'look good' side on lock. Everyone is also very fun to dance with.. and they are just free! I really like that type of environment, where people arent judging one another. I really recommend this club for people who want to test out the waters of clubbing...! It's just a place to have fun at! Other Yelpers have done a pretty good job at explaining details and the awesome that is Bootie LA, but if you are lazy, here it is in a nutshell: it's a non-pretentious dance party, with mashups, an affordable bar, and a great time if you bring a good group of friends. The venue is at the Echoplex, and the cover is $5 before 10pm. The DJ's are awesome and are always open to playing different mashups if you request them in time. You get a pretty cool crowd. A little more hip, artsy I suppose. Less pretentious than your usual hollywood crowd. You don't need to come all dressed up. Jeans and a t-shirt is fine. Wear comfortable shoes, and light clothing. Take a cab. I had my 30th bday here. It was called Save The Dave. Several months prior, I sent out an e-mail with an email for a "Save The Date", but I made a typo....and my friend Rebecca suggested I make that the name of my party. In any case, at midnight, I got a killer birthday shoutout, with confetti. This was also the last thing I remember from that night. Black out. Holler. What can I say? I turned 30 in style. Love Bootie LA! If you like diverse crowds (ethnicity, age, sexual preference) and down to earth fun people, this is the place to be. People come here to dance, hear the great mashups that you won't hear anywhere else, and see the wild dancers on stage. Drinks and entrance are reasonable too and you can download mashups from their website for free. If you think your sh** don't stink then don't come here, hollywood show offs can stay in hollywood. read more

Oh my!!! I can't believe I found a club where I can have good clean fun! My friend and I headed over here after seeing a show at Echoes Under Sunset at about 10pm. We waked in and took a few wacky silly photos and headed onto the dance floor! At first it felt like I was at a high school dance since it was kind of empty, but as the night progressed it started to get packed and way much more fun! Some people dressed up and went on stage to dance all out! Every once in a while they'd bring out the "Hoop Girls" on stage to dance. I did notice the ceiling was dripping, and as gross as it sounds I think it was all the sweat/heat generating. Regardless, I had a blast! Not to mention we weren't bothered by most pervy guys like at most clubs. Everyone's just out to have some fun and dance! I absolutely love this place!!! read more

Compared to Bootie SF, Bootie LA is a more glam, spacious, and overpriced older sister. I danced if I wanted to. And then we left our friends behind. And then we chilled on the sidelines trying to take selfies which didn't work at all. I drank a good bit of vodka unbeknownst to me, as those drinks were strong. I also paid 5 bucks for a coorslight tall boy, and pretty much hated myself for doing it. Felt a little outlandish- 5 bucks for a tall boy? Sheesh. The music was good, and the space was large and you had plenty of room to move around- needless to say I wandered off and got lost 6 time, roughly. I enjoyed it, all in all a very fun night. read more

I've had good experiences here and hell, even a birthday party held here before, but the St Patrick's day party was shitty. I'm guessing that everyone had been drinking all day because people in the club were aggressive, shove-y and rude. The music was not good at all (that French DJ sucked) and after one a-hole gave me a hard elbow because he decided that was how he was going to insert himself where I was standing, I just had to leave. I'm done with this place. I felt like I was stuck at a college party with a bunch of idiotic 22 yr olds. Only things going for this place are A) casual, wear what you want dress code and B) free CD if you get there early. read more

The music here slays. I can't say enough amazing things about the DJ. So many amazing mash ups. It's an awesome place to come and dance with your friends! The drinks are about averagely priced for an LA bar- not cheap but the bill won't shock you. If you wanna dance, come here. This is not a lounge or a casual bar. GREAT MUSIC...... but not the best vibe due to the clientele. I would expect a WAY more "gay-friendly" experience from Bootie LA, but every time I go, I always get treated poorly by other people at the club. It's either from annoying, pushy girls who feel they should get special treatment, or from "hipster/scene" guys being too cool to dance or do anything other than stand around in little groups and keep to themselves. I can't even tell you how many times girls have cut in line in front of me at the bar and say things like, "I'm a girl, I'm allowed to cut." (WTF?!) Again, I absolutely LOVE the music, but the people that go just completely ruin it for me. read more
