We came here on a Sunday early evening. We were in town visiting from Texas. We come to this area once a year. There were two of us in our party. To start, the food was really good! But the service was just bad, no other word for it. We come in and the host seemed really distracted. She seemed like an owner or manager that was doing it, but not really committed. This was fine and we got seated, but she comes up later in the night. So, we sit down and the place is not busy. There are 8 tables in the room we're seated in. 3 other tables have couples at them. So, with us, there are 4 occupied tables and 4 unoccupied. Not full or too busy. We sit down and wait for a few minutes. Our waitress comes over, takes our drinks... a water and unsweetened tea with sweetener on the side. Waitress comes back with the drinks, no sweetener and runs off before we can ask for it again. Meanwhile, we are watching the rest of the room. Everyone has bread on their table, so we're expecting to get some too. Also, one table felt like there was definitely some tension. Okay, waitress finally comes back, we have to follow up on the sweetener. She takes our order; 1 Surf and Turf & 1 Pecan Crusted Trout with two wedge salads and Crab Cakes as the appetizer. The waitress leaves and then comes back to ask how we want the steak cooked on the surf and turf. Then she come back again because the kitchen told her they're out of Trout (mind you it's 6:30 PM) but that's okay. She asks if I want something else... well yes lol. I have to ask for a menu, she doesn't volunteer it up. I pick the Ribeye with loaded baked potato and still the wedge salad. A few minutes go by and we get the crab cakes. At this point we realize we don't have silverware. We start to look for our waitress to see about getting silverware and she is no where to be found. At this point the guy at the table that felt like there was tension gets up and has to track down our waitress to get a side of sauce. My interpretation is he was having bad service, like us. I try to call out to her as she drops their sauce off and I guess she didn't hear me. Another two tables have now been seated. Finally she comes to take their drinks and we're able to get her attention for silverware. I think it's been about 5 minutes since we got our crab cakes. At this point, we are contemplating walking out. Which I've never done anywhere, ever. We decide to stick it out and try the food. The crab cakes are great! We get our salads, which are also great. Still no bread. At this point we're questioning if it comes with the meal or if we needed to order it. The waitress takes the order of the table that is now behind us. I guess they both get steaks because she comes back a minute later to ask them how they want their steaks done. Okay, I get missing that on our table, but to do it at a second table and you work in a steakhouse! Come on. Finally we get our bread after we're done with our salads. She also brings bread to the table in front of us, who also has no silverware. The man at that table is in the bathroom and the lady starts picking the bread apart with her hands and mushing it in the butter because no one can find our waitress. When he gets back to their table he gets up and steals silverware from a table across the room. At this point, I'm watching the time. We literally got our bread 3 minutes before our entree comes out. Never seen it come so late before and the other table got theirs before their salads. I guess it's just at her whim and hope for the best. But the bread is great, like everything else. Our entrees are delicious! Steak is great. Lobster is great. The mashed potatoes were not our favorite, but that was the only thing we didn't enjoy. While all of this is going on the hostess/manager/owner is at the bar chit chatting with a customer. She will look out to the front every once in a while to see if new guests come, but is too engrossed in not working. That really frustrated me because no wonder the waitress is doing even less than the bare minimum if the manager(?) is doing that also. However, there were 3 other servers and they all appeared to be hustling to their tables and doing a good job. We saw them probably three times as often as we saw our waitress. I think this was isolated to the hostess/manager and our waitress, which actually made it worse. I can't imagine what it would be like if the place had been full. Our bill ended up being $125 for two people and for that money the service was awful, to be honest. We went somewhere the next night and had a $54 bill and got service that was so much better. That service actually made me go from giving this place 4 stars to 3 stars because I realized just how bad the service was. I even kept our receipt so I could put our servers name on this review. Receipt says service was Peyton M. So, would I come back here? No. The food was good but not good enough to make up for the service. Hopefully they do better. read more

The best steak myself and the other people in my party have had in many years - and we live in Charleston South Carolina where everyone raves about Hall's, and we think it was better than that! Everyone had either a fillet mignon or the ribeye and they were cooked to the perfection; steaks come with a baked potato and a vegetable medley and you can also add some up charge sides as well like the sautéed mushrooms which were amazing. We also tried some of their special cocktails and the spiked lemonade was really good and the dirty martini with stuffed olives was excellent! It's a really cute atmosphere of the old west and they certainly know how to cook a steak so certainly drop in and treat yourself to a nice dinner in Dillsboro. read more

Made an outdoor reservation at this restaurant as a celebratory evening out and, after planning the evening and making the drive to the restaurant, was informed that there was no outdoor seating available (despite outdoor tables being set and seemingly ready). This is not the first time we've made reservations at this restaurant for outdoor and upon arriving been told no outdoor dining was available. We gave the restaurant our phone number when we made the reservation, so had there been an event that legitimately prevented them from providing outdoor seating you would think they would call, but they didn't. So given currently high rates of COVID transmission in the county, the CDC's current guidelines to mask when indoors, and the age and health conditions of members in our party, we left. Honestly, any dining establishment failing to accommodate individuals with preexisting health conditions in these times (2 years into the pandemic now??) should be ashamed of their business practices, and Boots should be especially ashamed for falsely advertising that they do by accepting outdoor reservations when in fact, they don't permit them. As a born and raised local who in the past has even recommended this restaurant to customers of our rental properties, this experience really saddened me, as did the utter disregard and rudeness of the management when I called to voice my concerns. And though I can't make this dining establishment worthy of one's time and money, I can absolutely share my personal experience so others are not subjected to similar disappointment. read more

Sorely disappointed, and haven't been treated so poorly by management in any establishment in years! We visited Boots on our 20th Anniversary with hopes of a good meal after a long day on the river. The server was very nice (and apologetic), and the menu looked wonderful. I ordered the filet with creamed spinach and a baked potato with bacon and chives, my hubby ordered the special which was 1/2 rack of lamb with a raspberry-red wine reduction, fingerling potatoes cooked in duck fat, and haricot verts. First, the creamed spinach was extremely runny - not typical of creamed spinach, but there was so much Parmesan cheese in the "cream" and sprinkled on top that it was not edible. When I say sprinkled I mean like the Kraft Parmesan that you get at the store, not even freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Parmesan is a salty cheese, and that really overpowered any possible good flavor that could have come out of that poor drowned spinach! Oh, and green onions are not chives. The rack of lamb was overcooked. It should have been served medium-rare for the best flavor and quality, and this was served medium-well. The "reduction" tasted like very bitter red wine with not even a hint of raspberry. It was harsh. It was a bad flavor combined with overcooked meat. The Manager was brought to our table, and instead of asking either of us if we would like something different after we voiced our dissatisfaction, she told me that she would go back to the kitchen, do a taste test of the food and determine if there is anything she could do. She sent the server back with an insulting 10% discount! Mind you, no offer was made to redo ANY of the food, no offer was made to replace any of our food, and the manager didn't speak to us again. We ate only a very small portion of our pricey meal, and most of it was left sitting on our plates. I was not looking for a free meal, I was looking for good food - and what I got was a bad meal and worse customer service. The sad thing is that I think that the food had potential and we could have had a good meal if the mistakes would have been corrected, but there was NO EFFORT by management to fix the problems whatsoever. The bartender ultimately removed the lamb from the ticket while the Manager sat at the other end of the bar glaring at me. I was truly appalled and disgusted with the way that she handled the situation. Not only will we not be returning, but I will be sharing this review with everyone I know. I will also make sure that other travelers staying at our resort are aware of the awful treatment (and food) that we received. read more

Stayed nearby overnight and went to Boots. My husband got the NY strip medium and I got the fried shrimp platter. We also shared the fried mushroom app. Our waitress was very friendly as was all the staff. The mushrooms were great. Not just thin slices but half mushrooms. Delicious. My shrimp was very tasty and my husbands steak was cooked to perfection and very flavorful. He highly recommends the steak. Service was quick and all COVID protocols were followed. This is the cutest little spot with a great ambience! We called ahead and made reservations for 2 - we were seated promptly upon arriving (we requested outdoor seating), and we appreciated the covid protocols they were following. Our server was friendly and we both loved our food. My husband said his steak was one of the best he's ever had, and my chicken fried steak was awesome! Drinks and dessert were also great. Not only was the steak good but so we're the drinks! Not to mention the service was 5 stars and everyone was so helpful and nice! My husband and I planned a one night get away very last minute. We stumbled upon Boots Steakhouse online and called to see if they could fit us in. They worked us in quickly and when we arrived, they were extremely accommodating to our outdoor seating needs (pregnant and Covid-19 worries). Our server was very prompt and gave us wonderful service. When it began to rain, they were quick to accommodate us. They even gave us some delicious cake to celebrate our anniversary! We had a lovely little table outside next to the fountain to celebrate our last night in Dillsboro. I had filet mignon which was perfectly prepared and seasoned. My husband had the pecan crusted trout and really enjoyed this local fish. The desserts were excellent as well. Tabitha took great care of us and the owner, Colleen stopped by near the end of meal to make sure we were happy with our meal. This is a sweet gem to find in a small town. Showed up early and she said "you are just who I've been waiting for!" Enthusiastically and very welcoming! We ordered the crab cakes, the tarter sauce on top was too much for me but the shrimp and grits were the best I ever had, a sauce that is reminiscent of the bayou (which makes send since that is where the owner is from!) We were seated soon after arriving, we ordered a bottle of wine and the Fried Green Tomatoes,with pimento cheese ,DELICIOUS. We both ordered the Rib Eye Prime Steak ,fully loaded backed potatoes and Vegetable medley . We ordered our steaks Pittsburgh style .These were the best steaks we have ever eaten. I am a foodie , very particular about food I order out . I am a great cook and always compare restaurant food to my own cooking, these were far better steaks than I have ever cooked.The cut is perfection. We were passing through and stopped by to have dinner. I ordered the rib eye (16oz) Pittsburg well done. It came out just well done so I explained how I wanted it and sent it back. It was brought back still just well done and said that's the best they can do. When I asked who I believed to be the owner about it she said they only do steaks Pittsburg well done certain times.
