Born to Move is awesome! Andrew and his team arrived promptly and moved all my stuff (1 bedroom) in two hours. This was my first time using Born to Move and I absolutely would recommend their services! You only have to pay per hour - shrink wrap & blankets for your items are included. Everything went smoothly with zero damage. Some things to be aware of: they have a 3-hour minimum and a security deposit which was the equivalent of one hour (~$200 around 9/1). Do not use. Period. The guys are nice enough as people but as movers, they are horrendous. They broke, smashed and scratched so much. And this after tripling their initial estimate mid-move. This was a 2700 sq ft house with furniture (but only 2 bedroom sets). I had another company crate large and fragile pieces and move out all but a few pieces of furniture. Born to Move had quoted a full house move and expected a full house move but still tried to say I had too much stuff (and this when most of the stuff had been moved by another company. And it was their job to assess the stuff to move in the first place. When 3 guys showed up, I waited for over 4 hours before asking them to go from languidly paced to a quicker pace as they were still working on just the 4x6 kitchen and the nearly empty dining room at this time. They were chatting on phone and really moving at a relaxed pace. I was actively packing my bedroom and my bathroom in addition to spot packing throughout the home to try and help as much as possible with interfering. I worked 12 hours without a break to ensure that I was moved out on time. I had not planned to pack that day at all. Midway through, there was a crew change after the first 3 guys said if they moved faster, they would break things. I believe this was just to cover their sloppy moving. They didn't have the right packing material (no hanging clothes boxes, etc) and nothing to pack glass or dishes. The lead did not seem concerned that he should have accessed the amount of things and called in help way sooner. Plus, it was their company's original estimate on time and crew members in the first place. The second crew came (3 new guys plus 1 original) at a higher charge. Clearly delaying as a tactic to increase the price. The final price was over 3 times the original quote. And so much was broken. Think about when you hire a moving company and the day of the move. It generally happens right before your lease or closing date. Their isn't any time to line up another company to meet that deadline. I think Born to Move is counting on that. It is the only reason I moved forward. There are much more reputable companies capable of handling a full house move. Moving is challenging enough. Don't create a nightmare situation by using these guys. In response: There was WAY LESS stuff (and I have documentation to prove it) than you quoted. There was no screaming. Pros - super flexible and willing to accommodate extra work and changes to move dates. Overall, nothing bad to say about the work they did on my move-in and move-out, however significantly under-quoted, so just a heads up on that. Cons - My move was a move-out, put items into storage for a month, and move-in to new spot. In the course of the month of storage, it appears my mattress was improperly stored as it came back to me with a massive ridge (bump) through the middle of it. It's a memory foam, so I was thinking if I just slept on it for a week, maybe it would return to normal. They had done an overall good job on the move, so I didn't want to be that person who complained if it went back to normal with a good few nights sleep. Over the week, however, the ridge did not go back to normal. I reached out to the company, who had been previously responsive, and somehow managed to become newly unresponsive. It took me weeks to get them to agree to some out with their "insurance company" to review the mattress in my home on a weekend. They came in, asked me questions, reviewed my receipt for the item that I strangely kept since it was a big purchase for me at the time. They concluded that the mattress defect was my fault since I was the one to put my own bed together that night. I wanted to get my rug down before putting my bed together - makes sense, right? How on earth a ridge could appear in the middle of my mattress in moving it from against the wall to my boxspring with two people is baffling to me. Secondly, the man they brought into my house for the inspection is actually someone who either works for Born to Move now or worked for them at some point - there are several pictures of him in his Born to Move t-shirt on this very yelp page. When I questioned them about it, they say he "used to work for Born to Move and is now their insurance guy." I call BS. Even if this is true, it's a glaring conflict of interest. They offered me $200 for my "inconvenience" for a damaged $1,400 mattress (with proof!). I did not take the money as it felt insulting and I'm a "principle" kind of gal. Though the move went relatively smoothly, I have to give a 1 star for how they handled this situation. I don't trust them and have read several other reviews with people having issues when things get damaged. On top of a doubled cost in my move, I had to replace an expensive (essential!) item...not a pleasant way to end the situation. read more

Do not hire them to move your items into storage. They will claim zero responsibility for the items. So when you open the storage container that had been sitting in your yard untouched for 3 months and you find damage; you are out of luck. I'm sure this is true for all moving companies but they ruined a $3000 table for me and now looking how they loaded it, I can see why. They placed it against one of the metal posts and not flush with the pod. And so it cracked. I also noticed some heavy glass shelves placed on a chair and made indentations on my sofa chairs. I had used Born to Move last year to move into my new place. I was delighted with how quickly they moved me so I reached out for another quote. I was quoted 1,200 for packing and moving. Which would have been fine, but it cost me 660 just for packing one day. And then moving was a additional 1900+ dollars. The truck was too small to move my furniture so I had to pay for the travel time going back and forth. The movers worked hard, however, they neglected to bring everything over to my house, so I ended up having another mover come and I had to pay him $600 dollars to do a last minute move. I don't normally write Yelp reviews, but my experience with Born to move was too fantastic not to share. This was my first move by myself and first time using professional movers. I was moving from a studio apartment near Watertown to a 1 bedroom 3 floor walk up in Oak square. I was incredibly stressed about this transition, but working with Born to move definitely alleviated that stress. Mari was incredible professional and helpful over the phone and email answering any questions that I had. When it came time for the move (at 8 AM, since I had to be out by 10), the 3 movers (Sandy, Yessi and Abner) showed up in a good mood and ready to work. I was blown away at how fast they worked that I was afraid they'd be done before I finished the small amount of stuff I had to do! They effectively packed all of my belongings and made sure they arrived safely to my new apartment. They made all my antique wooden furniture and huge TV made to my new place unscathed. Even stuff O thought couldn't fit into a box, they had boxes ready and packed them up so quickly without issue or any extra cost. They even taped up all my boxes that I had not yet taped. It took them only 45 minutes to get all of my furniture (entire living room and bedroom)and belongings packed in the truck. Once we got to the apartment, I had to quickly go back to the old place to finish clinging before inspiration by my landlord at 10:30. I only told them I'd be gone 45 minutes, but it ended up taking a bit longer than that. Everything was completely moved in when I returned and they was just waiting on me and assured me it wasn't a problem that I had to disappear for a little while. They had everything packed in the respective rooms. The total payment was a lot less than estimate to! I'm so glad to choose Born to move to help me move. We walked through the house before we began, then they got to it. They disconnected my washer and dryer for me. Beds were all wrapped in plastic so they didn't get dirty, tables, furniture was wrapped in moving blankets. They took better care of my stuff than I would have. These guys did an awesome job on the last minute call. Dima and Taras packed my stuff incredibly quick! We expected them to take about 4 hours to pack all miscellaneous things and maybe another 45 min to put our belongings into the truck, but after 3 hours they were done! Honestly i was hesitating to post this review but after a while I thought that it is important to say how this company did their service to me. They guys who came to help me out are friendly but not expert. They didn't know how to move things efficiently. They just put everything randomly! I don't know where did they put the tools for my bed as it was disassembled. I have to buy new tools to out the bed together because they didn't even tell me where they put them! Alex is very nice and super professional. He took good care of my belongings and did the best he could to move my stuff through a cramped small stairwell in Cambridge, MA. There were several items that had very questionable fit through that stairwell but he and Andrew managed to miraculously fit all of them through. None of my belongings arrived in my new apartment damaged. Oh and did I mention that Alex is very punctual and courteous? He call me on my cell when he was on his way to the old residence and gave me a fairly accurate ETA, followed by another call about 10 min from arriving. Between their Yelp coupon and a two-hour minimum (instead of three like most moving companies in Boston) I saved at least $150 by going with them. And unlike other area companies, they didn't charge two hours in travel time--just the 30 minutes door to door and back. Called and emailed them and no response - charged 4 hours for travel (both ends) and only quoted 2 hours. We tipped the three workers $200 in so we were fair. I used Born to Move for a one BR move from Watertown, MA to Providence, RI. They were absolutely great. Great communication before the move date and arrived on time (actually 10 minutes early). They worked very hard and efficiently on both sides. Their rates were very reasonable. I would definitely go directly to them if I need movers again. On top of doing an outstanding job, they found a gold necklace caught in my bed frame that I thought I had lost a couple of months back. By far my worst moving experience. Last year we used a different moving Company to move us from a third floor walk-up to a fourth-floor walk up. They did the entire move in 4.5 hours (same size crew). This year, we were just moving the stuff from the 4th floor walk-up to a moving pod on the street below (so basically less than half the move and we have all the same stuff). After 4 hours we just told them to leave and we would finish the rest. I have never experienced such slow movers. My husband truly was working harder than they were and the two of us wrapped all the furniture in blankets/plastic wrap ourselves as they were so slow just to bring everything down. I have absolutely no confidence in the way the pod is packed and am just hoping that when we get it back things are still in one piece. Nightmare from start to finish. read more
