I was on a walk this morning and I noticed that I was near Borough Coffee. I had been wanting to check out this place for quite sometime now, I just never had the time to do it. But today was the day! As soon as you show up, you know this isn't your typical coffee shop. The outside of the place looks like it could be an Inn in the neighborhood (which who knows maybe it was at one point.) The vibe inside gives off quiet workspace/library, and definitely gives off the lobby of an Inn (think Gilmore Girls.) There was some people scattered around but I didn't take a deep look inside since I was just passing by. I ordered my ice vanilla latte. The first thing I remember realizing was that it wasn't very sweet. Which is not a bad thing, sometimes they can be made really sweet other times they can be not so sweet. This latte was in the middle. I could taste the creaminess from the oat milk too. I would definitely check this place out again and try out some of their other drinks that they offer. I would even like to stay in and work inside and see more of the environment inside. read more

Borough Coffee is in an absolutely gorgeous building -- previously a B&B. The various 1st floor rooms have cozy seating scattered throughout, and it seems like it would be a fantastic place to work or study. Though most seats were filled when I visited, it was super quiet, like a library. I felt a little uncomfortable having a conversation, afraid of bothering others. I'm not sure if it's always that quiet or not. Street parking is somewhat limited, but there is a church with a parking lot just across the street. That said, I visited on Easter, so the church lot was full, but we were still able to find a spot to parallel park at the end of the street. They serve a decent variety of coffee and other drinks, but have a limited food/pastry menu. I got an iced lavender vanilla latte with oat milk, which is something I order at a lot of places. Sometimes, the lavender tastes so artificial it reminds me of eating soap -- I think certain brands of syrup taste better than others. That was not the case here. I don't know what brand they use, but it must be one of the better ones, because it tasted mild and delicious. Both lavender and vanilla came through. The espresso was smooth and not bitter. The ratios of everything were great as well -- not too much oat milk but not too little -- the perfect latte. read more

Great spot close to downtown in the Double Oaks B&B. A huge house where the first floor has rooms, nooks and crannies to enjoy a nice drink, a snack, work or an outing with friends and family. They have a variety of coffee and tea drinks to enjoy. For food, they carry delicious items from Camino Bakery. I enjoyed a very well made coffee and a spinach artichoke danish during a weekday lunch break. At one point in the past, they had a full working kitchen with a much bigger variety of cooked to order breakfast and lunch items. The friendly staff working today were unsure when this will be up and working again. Hopeful they will bring it back for some point. This is a perfect spot for a relaxing and pleasant morning or midday/afternoon work session. In addition, they sometimes host live music for a fun evening on their huge back patio and garden area. This is a really unique coffee shop in a historic house! There is limited parallel parking available on the street and the opposing side near he church. There are multiple rooms, tables couches, single chairs, front outdoor rocking chairs and tables, large outdoor patio in the back with plenty of seating available. I got the seasonal blood orange which chocolate mocha latte hot. It was a house made syrup. I could taste the tart, slightly bitter orange flavor! There was a nice layer of steamed milk at the top of my drink. The room to the left has bookshelves and board games. It felt like I was in a family friends home! Borough Coffee was the cutest coffee shop I have been to in a long time. A former Bed and Breakfast, it has rooms of comfortable seating and calming backdrops for conversations, reading, or working. The coffee itself was not as great. It was good, not burnt like some, but I was disappointed when my Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte tasted like nothing. It wasn't particularly sweet, or creamy, or even coffee like- just plain. Since the menu was pretty small, I hoped this meant that they had mastered the few drinks offered. I have seen good reviews so I hope this was just a one off occurrence and would be willing to try it again. However, I do think there are other decent coffee places in the area with better options (both in quantity and quality). The service was quick and the workers were kind, which made this a ~fine~ experience. read more

The subject of many a rave review, Borough Coffee had somehow eluded me until recently. Housed inside a historic former B&B, it wins points for offering a unique setting. Baristas are friendly and turn around orders quickly, and Borough uses quality locally roasted (Loom) beans as well. All of this should make it one of the best coffee shops in town, yet it didn't reach that level for me. I went with one of the seasonal offerings, a Butterscotch-Cinnamon Cortado. A cortado that costs as much as a seasonal latte elsewhere had better be something special, and this one wasn't. The coffee was decent, and the drink wasn't overly sweet, but it wasn't as smooth a sip as I was expecting. Maybe I would have had better luck with a different syrup (?). I definitely wouldn't rule out a return to Borough, but I'll approach next time with somewhat lowered expectations. read more

A great place if you need somewhere to work or study for long periods of time. The coffee is solid and they randomly sell beer on tap here as well. The barista who took our order was very patient and friendly. There are 4 big rooms with a variety of outlets, chairs, tables and couches inside for people to have meetings or work on their laptops. I was invited to a business coffee meeting at this glorious place! What a great place to meet for any reason! Sadie, my glorious beverage tour guide, helped me decide on a a Chai Tea with Oat Milk - HOT! It was served in a thick-walled cup that kept it hot to the very last creamy, chai-spicy, drop! Went here with friends a couple of times now. It's a place with history-basically, your old grand house with a nice garden where you can enjoy your coffee, do your own thing or meet with friends. I had a wonderful experience at Borough Coffee! Inside the Double Oaks B&B, this is a unique place to grab a cup and go or stay and chat or work. There is more than enough seating both throughout the bottom floor and a double-decker back porch and patio. It's chill and comfortable. I had the butterscotch latte and it was delicious! Easy parking on the street and very charming atmosphere to land in for a quick coffee heading back to Charlotte. Very friendly staff and it looks like a very popular place for the locals to use for various social gatherings and activities. There is a wine station at the back of the house and a backyard that hosts music and Shakespeare performances. If you need a little road break, I would definitely recommend a stop here. read more

This is such a cute cozy spot, perfect for a solo date. I love the old glorious building, and all the decor inside. It's just soooo warm. The cafe itself doesn't have a huge menu to choose from, but I guess I don't mind it much as what they did serve tasted delicious. Our server was super seeet and friendly, and the backyard was just the perfect spot for a nice brunch. My dream coffee shop. Their lattes are divine and drinking them at a historical bed and breakfast with a beautiful outdoor seating area is as good as it gets. I got the seasonal blackberry tart latte which is among the best flavored lattes I've had in a long time. The berry flavor came through without being overpowering and tasted like the real thing instead of the artificial overly sweet syrups that you typically get. It even came with some crumble that added a crunchy texture to the drink - may not be for everyone though. The cold brew has a great balance of bitterness and acidity that gives it more character than a typical cold brew. Even the pumpkin muffin was solid though they don't really offer many pastry options. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try their bagels or biscuits. The baristas here know their stuff too. He suggested that I get my latte with a milk alternative as the acidity from the berry and espresso would cause dairy milk to curdle. The best part of the experience is the ambience. This coffee shop is actually attached to this beautiful historical bed and breakfast. You can enjoy your coffee inside among the well decorated seating areas or enjoy the rocking chairs on the wrap around porch. They even have this beautiful garden patio area nestled among the shade of huge oak trees with lots of seating and space for kids and families to run around and explore. I was looking for someplace that would be welcoming, pleasant and a good gathering place for locals (like me) this warm Sunday evening. I've lived here for over 10 years and decided to search on Yelp and found this wonderful place. Check out their website and look up the history of Double Oaks, the 1909 house built by a cotton merchant for Cone Mills. It was a B&B until about a year ago (I think) and has now been turned into, among other things, a great place for coffee, tea, beer and wine. They have a pretty large menu of beverages and a very limited menu of baked goods (which they were sold out of by late Sunday afternoon). We still enjoyed a couple of Caramel Macchiatos, a hot cider and a butterscotch-cinnamon Cortado, along with a couple of granola bars as the warm late-evening sun set as we rocked on the front veranda (it's too nice to call it a "porch"). Service was gracious and friendly, the staff welcoming, and, to my delight and surprise, a 6-person musical group playing what sounded like Irish music. The clientele reflected the open, inclusive ambience the establishment strives to achieve. I was very happy to have found this place, which is open 7 days a week, 7a-7p, and I'm sure it will be my go-to place for coffee and friendly folks (customers and staff alike). read more

Rainy day, jazz music, coffee, makes it perfect to work on my studies, I don't really into the last piece Borough locates in the corner of double oaks B&B, you can sit on the first floor or outside if the weather is nice, you can order both from inside and outside, how convenient! If you choose to stay inside, you can enjoy the classic interior of the house and some jazz music. Outside it lovely too, but it's not an option for this weather for me. Coffee is always good! I used to get it from the weather spoon museum location on UNCG campus, baristas are always nice and are always ready to tailor the drink to your taste, and they are patient. Everyone that worked here were super friendly. We happened to come across it while trying to look for coffee shops in the area. We didn't realize it was on the right side of a B&B. You have to walk up the steps and veer off to the right side, on the outside and you'll come up to a little door. On the inside of the B&B it's a tiny little door you come up to. The little coffee spot is super small. The woman that works there is beyond beyond nice. We just weren't a fan of lack of signs for the coffee shop to point you in the right direction, along with the coffee overall. It was okay but kind of watered down? It wasn't bad, but probably won't come here again. Great idea for a B&B because of how convenient it is though, so I get that! read more

Parking is iffy as you have to park on the street (that I was aware of) but once you walk up the front steps, go to the right and around the corner to the left and there is a cute little wonder coffee shop. I stopped by Borough Coffee located in Double Oaks Bed and Breakfast this morning on my way to work. When parking in front of the house, I couldn't believe I'd never noticed it there before - it's beautiful! With that being said, I was worried I wouldn't know where to go to find Borough Coffee but thankfully there are a couple of signs that lead the way. It's tucked away on the right side of the porch but very easy to find. Although the food options looked yummy, I didn't get a breakfast item. I really just wanted a coffee and went with a brown sugar cinnamon latte with oat milk. It was a cloudy and chilly morning so the person making my coffee (I didn't get her name, sadly) kindly offered that I wait inside until it was ready. The inside of the house is stunning, as expected. I waited in a dining area that was also connected to Borough Coffee. While waiting, she and I were chatting, and she told me that Double Oaks hosts all kinds of things for the public like Wine Wednesday and Sunday Brunch. I love brunch and wine so of course I'll be back for those. The interaction, though very helpful and kind, was a quick one. I had my coffee in under 5 minutes and was on my way. The coffee itself was delicious. I am normally an iced coffee girl, but it was 30 degrees out, so I went with hot. The coffee was smooth and warm, flavorful but not overly sweet. I love it when I discover a place first. This coffeeshop has great coffee, kind service, and the best environmental factor of any coffeeshop in Greensboro. It's like you're at a millionaire's house and getting to take advantage of his loungeroom, and gorgeous side garden. Inside seating is comfortable and ample (no shortage of tables). I try to support local coffee shops anywhere I go, and when I got there there was a little sign at the end of an alley that had their name on it. Went down there, it looked like someone's garage. Came back out front , no signs anywhere where this place is, came inside the main door like a moron and was told to use the outside door for the coffee place, again, no clue where it was because NO SIGNS. Borough Coffee is the type of place I would bring friends visiting from Los Angeles to so that they could have their, "Wow! *Insert Southern City* is actually really cute!" moment for the city of Greensboro. Nestled on the right side of the equally-cute-and-charming Double Oaks Bed and Breakfast, Borough Coffee is essentially a coffee bar where you can order pretty much anything you would find at an on-trend independent coffee shop (drip coffee, espresso, flavored lattes, pastries, etc.). Everything is delicious and the staff members are incredibly warm and kind, but the thing that sets Borough apart from other shops is the location. Instead of sitting inside a coffee shop to enjoy your selections, you get to enjoy them while also taking in a Greensboro landmark that has been in the National Register of Historic Places since the 1980s. Double Oaks is one of the few surviving examples of Colonial Revival style architecture in Greensboro. Built in the early 1900s, it features a large, grand front porch, a beautifully restored interior, and grounds + gardens that are vibrant and enchanting to explore. Guests of Borough Coffee are invited to use parts of the space as you would a coffee shop, meaning that you can enjoy your coffee inside on the first floor of Double Oaks, outside on the front porch, in the garden, or in the backyard. They even provide free wifi for guests. It's typically easy to find free street parking out front, but I would actually recommend parking a short ways a way from Borough (maybe on Guilford Avenue, across from First Baptist Church of Greensboro) so that you have the chance to walk around the neighborhood a bit before making your way to Double Oaks + Borough. So many homes in this neighborhood feature yards with mature trees / plants / flowers / herbs that pour out onto the sidewalks, and taking those in before getting coffee really does add an extra layer of loveliness to the whole experience (especially in the spring + summer months). read more
