I had a great experience at Pine Tavern in Bend. I ordered the chicken fried chicken (which is essentially fried chicken), and it was excellent. The batter had a great texture and flavor without being over-seasoned, and the chicken itself was incredibly moist and cooked perfectly. There were three of us at our table that ordered it, and everyone loved their meal. The mashed potatoes were outstanding--smooth, well-mashed, and had a great consistency. The mac and cheese was also very good. It wasn't overly cheesy, is that's your preference. Remember to add bacon. The ambiance is decent, the location is fantastic and adds to the overall experience. The service was friendly, attentive, and efficient throughout our meal. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Pine Tavern if you're in Bend. Great food, good service, and a beautiful location. We parked in front of the Wells Fargo Bank, and two security guards were watching us, and since they've been watching us, I confronted them, where a good place to have lunch. They recommend us two restaurants, and one was the Pine Tavern, where there's a lake view, which my husband were planning (anyway) to take us. We've got two hours to park there, so we hurried and we found it across the street. We were seated (by a window as I asked), and directed us to our seats. We ordered the same sandwich, with different side dish. He got French Onion soup, and I had Clam Chowder with our Half a Tuna Sandwiches. I was surprise to see vegetables in my Clam Chowder, that was a first! Both were quite good, except I didn't care for Onion Soup. Hubby loves his. I've taken photos inside, and only the next day, hubby realized there are two huge tree trunk inside the living room. ('Really? I didn't see that!' he questioned). My photo showed it, and we were talking to a cousin visiting with us, and we're talking & laughing about the trees, even after showing him my photo. It was hilarious! Our waitress gave us a complimentary dessert for our wedding anniversary. We picked Sky High Mud Pie. (Thank you!) We made the right choice to come here! My boyfriend and I had dinner here our first night in Bend, which happened to be St. Patrick's Day. We had totally forgotten the day, and were surprised to find the entirety of downtown packed with people! We had decided to try this place because of its particular historic relevance to Bend. Luckily, since we only had a party of two, we were able to get a table relatively quickly. They had live Irish music for the celebration and people were packing in like crazy. We were seated in the very front of the restaurant, so unfortunately we didn't get to see the back area with the tree trunk growing through the ceiling. It was far too busy for me to feel comfortable wandering around to sightsee inside. It's a cute older building with a traditional pub vibe, and the menu mostly has a slightly elevated pub food to match. Photos of varying significance line the walls. Many seem to reflect famous people who may or may not have been patrons over the years. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips, and I ordered the mac and cheese with bacon. While both are simple dishes, they were both prepared well and quite tasty. The waitress was very efficient, but also laid back and friendly. We liked her a lot. I don't think you're going to experience a groundbreaking culinary experience here, but we did enjoy the quality of the classic dishes we ordered. The portion of mac and cheese was so big that I took leftovers and had the second half of it for lunch the next day. The prices seemed fair for the portions we received. Sadly we were one of the ones who had the slowest service ever. It was an hour and 10 minutes before our dinner plates appeared before us and we had already set a cut off time to pay for our drinks and leave. Unfortunately they seemed highly understaffed yet they continued to set people at every single table even though they knew full well that the kitchen could not keep up. My steak was overcooked and the chicken while moist seemed particularly bland. Clam chowder was meh and the wedge salad was good but who are we kidding, it's a wedge of iceberg lettuce dressed up. Ambiance was lovely. Sadly it's a place that would never get a redo from us. Our poor server kept apologizing yet no attempts were made to appease us with a free drink or dessert. This is the oldest restaurant in Bend, Oregon. It's super cute and rustic. They've got a nice menu and the server was probably the best server I've had in years. I wish I could remember his name, I'd love to give him a shout out. I went with a group of 7 and unfortunately, didn't take any pictures of the food. But it was just OK in my book. Everyone else in my party seemed to really enjoy their dinner. We had a couple people that got Caesar salads with shrimp, the steak salads and one person got the marsala chicken. I also really liked the little scone donut bread with the honey mustard that they brought out in the beginning. When the server was going over the specials, he did mention a prime rib. I don't even eat a lot of beef anymore, but for some reason that appealed to me that day after probably 30 years of having a prime rib. So I ordered an end cut because that's what I would typically eat. The end cut has the most seasonings. When it arrived, it was a massive portion of meat, almost comical that one person could possibly eat that in one sitting. I like leftovers so right on. I've got to say, it was seasoned well but it was SO dry! If it wasn't for the au jus and the horseradish sauce I'm not sure if I could've gotten it down. In retrospect I probably should've said something to the server, but then they would've just taken it back and wasted it. I have a hard time wasting meat because that cow died for someone to eat it. I didn't want to complain about the food, but then still eat it because then it looks like I'm trying to get a free meal which was not my intention. I did enjoy the potatoes and the asparagus AND I took the rest of the prime rib home and made sandwiches with it after soaking in the au jus, which were nice with some melted cheese and horseradish sauce. read more

Classic joint. Have had a few things here and everything has been pretty solid. In the past I've enjoyed the French onion soup and the chicken fried chicken. Recently I tried the Reuben and French Dip. The French Dip was aiight, but the Reuben was spectacular! I'm not even necessarily one to order a Reuben. It was delicious! Truffle fries and salad were an upgrade. Fries were super garlicky, which I enjoy. If I could do one thing differently I would have asked for a side of mustard with the Reuben. Yummm!!! read more

We came in last minute and were able to grab a reservation online. The service was incredible. I forgot our server's name but he was on it the entire time. The atmosphere is really cool, especially the tree in the middle of the dining room. The patio view looks like it would be great in summer too. Food was mostly solid. The bread with honey butter was super sweet and felt more like starting dinner with dessert. The French onion soup was good but a little watery and needed more salt. The classic wedge was perfect and crisp. Mac and cheese tasted extra cheesy with a little al dente bite. We had a celebratory peach crumble that was good but lacked flavor and tasted more like hot peach's with too much cinnamon and oats poured on top. Our experience started out bad as they were out of several items we tried to order. Our first server was an older gentlemen and he was straight up rude and offensive. We talked to the manager and told her how rude the server had been and she apologized and had another server wait on us. The second server was a young lady who was fantastic. We were shocked when the first server returned to our table to "apologize" and when I told him I was sorry he had such a bad day, he told me his day was great and he didn't believe he'd been rude to us. He also said he didn't need his manager hearing he'd been rude to someone. Upon hearing of our second encounter with the first server, the manager apologized and said she'd told him not to come back to our table. We had fried calamari and spicy steak bites from the appetizers, a bowl of clam chowder, and a lavender and sage Italian cream soda. The food was good and sitting by the river was fantastic! I wish I could give this restaurant a higher rating, but because they were out of several menu items and we had to endure being insulted by the first server a 3 is appropriate. If we're ever back in Bend we'll try them again With the hope of giving them a higher rating. read more

Omg loved loved this place!! Pro tip...ask for the back outdoor patio with a view of the lake!! Unbeatable!! Also pro tip...the back patio does not include happy hour specials. But it's worth it!! Omg - amazing all around! From the hostess to our server, customer service was EXCELLENT! We got the orchard Moscow mule (2 for each of us) and they were beyond delicious. Full disclosure I didn't eat here. Just walked in because I heard it's a cool atmosphere with the tree growing through it. That was true. Comfy booths, nice views but obstructed by some items and construction. The menu has a great variety and I've heard it's popular especially among an older demographic. We do love our classic go-to in downtown Bend, but a recent incident has triggered a negative vibe about Bend, and it affects this lovely establishment because it concerns PARKING. Bend has gone tragically wrong. Somewhere ... someplace .. A bit of history: Bend was once a logging epicenter. It was built by the sweat, blood and tears of hard-working folk with saws, rifles, horses, trains, trucks and buckets of sweat. Now, it's more for green glam 'progressives' who have decided they will have none of that. We are too high-fallutin' for all of that grit. Like work, Like trucks. So.... the City of Bend has instituted a unique parking equation. Take note of the parking spaces on the street. The stalls for vehicles have brackets painted at the end of the partitioning stall lines. If you drive a real truck, not oversized, just a real truck like a Dodge or a Chevy and it projects over this bracketed rear linea foot or two, you will receive a PARKING VIOLATION for IMPEDING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. Yes, you will. And it will cost you $50. If you are from anywhere else in the world, you will not be familiar with this insane and asinine practice. So, if you think of visiting Bend, don't drive a truck. You won't be able to park it. Also, eat quick and don't shop -- you only have 2 HOURS at most in these spaces! Bend businesses, step up. You will quickly lose the customer base who built you up. And you'll sell out to the ones who will undermine your very soul. Oh, very good Happy Hour Burger and Wedge Salad. The line tavern doesn't look like anything from the street, but oh what a treat when you walk inside! The bar is pretty plain, the entire side is a relic with old style wood look and kinda swanky. We stopped in to get out of the heat and have a bevy. Wine, cider and beer were good. The real gem is the restaurant, there are small little dining nooks with curtains for a romantic dining experience. In the main dining room there are two trees that are growing in through the building. So cool! Menu looks inviting. We will need to come back for some food in the future. read more

*AVOID* Not welcoming to people with disabilities. I have a seizure disorder and an alert dog for epilepsy. The staff could not have been more kind, and asked for his tags upon entry. After 3 hours, the new manager on duty approached me to say they only allowed dogs for "physically visible" disorders. Please do better. Or at least have your mgmt read up on state law. 2 legal questions-all he had to do was ask :) like the servers before him. Some people have disabilities you can't "physically see" until it's too late. I left immediately. read more

Met some friends while we were in Bend OR at the Pine Tavern, a favorite place for our friends and a first time for us. We sat out on the patio along the river and what ambience. Our waiter was happy and whitty as he guided us through the wine list, the food was so good and we were having such a good time I forgot to take pics . Nevertheless the food was amazing; Fish and Chips, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Steak Bites, Caesar Salad and Chicken Marsala. And don't forget the Scones with Honey Butter.
