My son had braces from Dr. Boshken for 2 years. I would not recommend. The reason for my unhappiness is that I feel my son received very little dental attention from Dr. Boshken. We saw him very little during the 2 years of treatment. He hardly gave any updates on my son's progress during the 2 years - the "updates" I do recall consisted of him striding by me in the waiting room and saying over his shoulder "it all looks good". On the day that he removed my son's braces, I was upset that Dr. Boshken did not speak with us to review the treatment results. I had to ask to speak with him, and was led to his office, where he turned to me annoyed and said "What?" at which point I asked point blank "So how did my son's teeth turn out?" and he said "everything's fine". And that was it. Two years and thousands of dollars of treatment - I expected more patient care and communication. My impression is that there is more focus on the business aspect than the patient care aspects in this office. Even though this office is super close as we live in the neighborhood, I will not be going to Dr. Boshken for my other children's braces. read more

I cant express how difficult it was to find an orthodontist that would take me in without jaw surgery. I had the worst overbite; couldn't eat correctly. I had struggled with horrible jaw pain that would constantly crack because I depended so much on my back teeth to chew (sorry for the gross detail). Every orthodontist I had seen had told me that I would need to get jaw surgery wear a metal brace connected to my teeth and around my head (horrible!) then finally metal braces for another 3-4 years. That's a total of 5 years of torture! Luckily, I came across Dr. Boschken 2 years ago and he guaranteed that I would have the perfect smile in 2 YEARS with NO METAL BRACES AND NO JAW SURGERY. I was so happy I didn't have to get the surgery or wear metal braces. Two years has past and my teeth look AMAZING!! Overbite completely closed and my teeth are lined up perfectly just as he had guaranteed. I am so lucky and glad I waited 6 years to find the perfect doctor. He is worth the wait! I use yelp all the time but rarely write reviews myself, although I feel my overall experience at Boschken Orthodontics makes this well deserved. Came here for an Invisalign treatment, but before that I was actually turned down by 2 other practices with high yelp reviews too. The office is very clean and their equipment seems to be the newest technology, which served for less pain and efficient appointments. Very timely and well prepped for my scheduled appointments. In fact I went during my lunch breaks, they always took note of my limited time and got me in and out. Of course, I'm just sitting in the seat observing their work, and was always impressed with the teamwork, communication, and efficiency between Dr. Boschken and his dental assistants. I've read a few of the other reviews on their yelp page and the common theme was their appreciation to the staff. Our family has been getting orthodontic treatment from Dr. Boschken for about 5 years. Our son was first to undergo braces. Toward the end of his treatment, I saw that Dr. Boschken had a special offer for parents of current patients. My husband and I took him up on that offer. Yes, you can have braces again at age 69! This time I'm using Invisalign. I checked out several orthodontic practices and Dr. Boschken had the best reviews PLUS a recommendation from one of the dentists I was getting a quote from. He suggested I try Dr. Boschken, the "Guru of Invisalign!" The moment I entered Dr. Boschken's office, I knew I was in the right place. Every single person in the office has been incredibly welcoming and uplifting. Nicole, the director of operations, was very supportive in describing the entire process from start to finish. Dr. B, as they call him, is indeed an expert in his field. He is friendly, easy to understand, and clearly knows what he's doing. He detailed the process for me. The equipment is the absolute latest and best so you can see exactly what your teeth look like now, and what they will look like when you're done. It can seem expensive, but the support, expertise, and friendly staff from the people who greet you, to the finance coordinator, Sonya, and the registered dental assistants. I just started my first retainer. Danielle, the dental assistant, set me up and made sure I felt comfortable putting the retainer in and taking them out. Dr. B reviewed everything to make sure it was all in order. They were missing a few dental assistants that day who were out sick, so everyone was pitching in to help. I have been very unhappy with the way my teeth looked and had been thinking about getting Invisalign for the past several months. For me, the cost was very important to me and I knew going in what I should be expecting as I have 3 kids who have had orthodontia in the recent years. I decided to visit as many orthodontists and Invisalign providing dentists in 2 weeks and make my final decision. I visited my kids' orthodontists, some others referred by friends and a few from Yelp. Dr. Boschken was not on my radar until I saw a facebook ad. I was skeptical but decided to yelp his business and go for a visit. I was very happy to meet with him and his team over zoom for an initial consultation. He was honest, professional and friendly. I was honest about how price was an important deciding factor and he told me that he would not be the cheapest around BUT did NOT give me the "don't settle for cheap", "don't settle for less quality" talk. He was truly professional and respectful of his competitors/; colleagues. On the zoom call, I was given an estimate and he was right, he was not the cheapest but he also was not the most expensive. There were a few providers around the same range. I decided to go in for an in person visit for scans and pictures- they had assured me that they would show me what the results would look like but that there will be no cost to me regardless of whether I would decide to move forward with them or not. I was very surprised to see their office in Los Altos. It was big and clean and probably the best looking dentist/ orthodontist office I had been to. Every person there was so friendly and really made me feel comfortable and at home. I met with Dr. Boschken and I was also able to witness how he interacted with his office staff with kindness and respect and I appreciated that. I never once felt any pressure to make a decision on site. Going over the potential financials, I had brought up a little bit of a situation and they were so quick to work with me on an alternative plan. I started going here in 2013. So far Dr. Boschken's staff have been pretty amazing, but Dr. Boschken himself is a little rude. I understand he may be tough on me because I'm only a teenager, but seriously! When I got my braces and rubber bands (I have an underbite) I'll admit I hated both of them. I wouldn't wear them for more than 3 hours at a time, which was my fault. The next 4 times I went in Dr. Boschken told me that he would HAVE TO BREAK MY JAW and take me into surgery if I didn't wear my rubber bands. I knew that this wasn't true because nobody has died before because their teeth weren't straight. Another thing, I would only see Dr. Boschken for about 30-45 seconds each visit. This is how an office should be. I took my little brother here to get his braces fixed. He's had his on for about 6 years now and his ortho moved on him. So his teeth are all sorts of messed up! Upon entering the office, I noticed just how clean everything was. It was state-of-the-art and beautiful. We were greeted right away by the staff who agreed to seeing us earlier than was expected. Everyone here was very nice and offered us coffee (with different types of syrups too!?). I even noticed the little welcome paper that they framed on the desk for my brother and other new clients. These people reallly try to make you feel welcome. I appreciate that a lot. We didn't wait for long before we were given a tour around the whole office. They have a mini-arcade where kids can wait and play and a beautiful salt water aquarium. The assistants also wasted no time to get my brothers x-rays done and pictures taken. We also met Dr. Boschken, who is very friendly and nice. He got straight to the point about my brother's teeth, what he recommends, and how long it would take. I don't think they're money-hungry here because my brother wanted invisalign but bc the way his teeth were, he wouldn't be eligible until after some extractions. It would take a while and cost more money. Dr. Boschken said we could do it if he really wanted to but he doesn't recommend it because it's a waste of time and our money. Well thanks for being so considerate! The pricing of the braces and the amount of time he would be done with everything is not bad either. Trust me, I've seen worse. And they've got great payment options that can accommodate to anyone's needs. This review is for my first appointment: the Impressions for Invisalign. I was very nervous about the impressions because I had read some blogs where people had bad experiences. This is definitely NOT the case here! First, I went in the office and they already knew who I was by name and welcomed me. They even accommodated my busy schedule and were there during their lunch. Next, I went into the office where the financing is discussed. They were so very professional and completely explained everything, asking if I had any questions throughout. Once the contract/waivers were signed, she gave me a folder with all of the copies of the documents and even the payment plan schedule. Then, she escorted me over to their "Wheel of Fortune"...which is a wheel that has a bunch of different stores & restaurants on it and you spin the wheel...whichever one it lands on you get a $25 gift card. woo hoo! It's only for newbies though. Ok, now for the "tough part"...sitting in the chair for the impressions. The assistant was very sweet and it only took about 2 minutes each (top & bottom). I was really hoping I wasn't going to gag or worse (since that's what I had read from others). It wasn't bad at all...and I didn't even have to lie back like you're used to in a dentist office :o). She put the "putty-like" stuff in the trays and pressed them into my mouth-the top first & then the bottom. It kinda smelled like berry flavor, but no real taste. After they were hardened, she carefully took them out---it was like a suction coming off of my teeth, but it didn't hurt. Anyway, I had gone to 3 places before settling down here with Boshken Orthodontics and I am so happy I made the right choice! I have two kids under Dr. Boschken's care. He was very careful to explain the options and pro's and con's before prescribing a course of action. Every other orthodontist we visited wanted to immediately extract teeth before orthodontic treatment!! Dr. B stresses keeping teeth and only extracting teeth if absolutely necessary. The office staff are very friendly and professional. All the orthodontic assistants are very personable and capable as well. In the two years we've been with Dr. B, there has been zero turnover in his assistant staff which say's all you need to know about the quality of care you'll receive here. P.S. Contrary to an out-dated review, this office serves a diverse clientele spanning virtually every ethnic and racial group you'll commonly find in the Bay Area. I got my Invisalign series completed here a couple years ago. Scheduling appointments was a breeze. The reception staff and dental assistants were all friendly. Dr. Boshken was professional, although I wouldn't go so far as to say friendly or personable. Appointments also felt rushed at times, possibly as a result of overbooking patients. However, I am satisfied with my experience here. I will continue to go back to Dr. Boschken for my future retainer needs! I've always had anxiety when visiting the dentist because my teeth are in very bad shape. I have severely crooked teeth which makes it difficult to thoroughly clean in between each tooth. My dentist suggested braces and referred me to 3 different orthodontists. Dr. Boschken was the only doctor whose treatment plan did not include extraction of 4 teeth. Instead of extracting teeth, Dr. Boschken is using a bracket system called Damon that can correct my smile without removing any of my permanent teeth. If this option was not presented to me, I would not have moved forward with braces because I did not want to have my permanent teeth removed. Dr. Boschken and his staff are always extremely courteous and cheerful. The girls take the time to explain each step of the process and make me feel good about being a patient in their office. My schedule is very busy so it's nice to know that I only have to see Dr. Boschken every 8 weeks. When I arrive at the office, there is never a wait to see the doctor and my appointments are only 5-10 minutes long. I am extremely happy with the service and treatment I've received from Dr. Boschken and his staff. I feel confident in referring my friends and family to this office. read more

When we were getting consults for kid #3 the "old school" orthodontists wanted to pull teeth to make room in her mouth. I remember he took over an office from Dr. Tillman (sp?) and then he hired a bunch of foxy looking techs, aides, receptionists. He is patient and easy to talk to. I have been wearing my retainer ever since I have had it and I came in a for a checkup 2 years ago and I wasn't even in the record anymore. This is going to be a lengthy review given that the treatment and service duration was years. I'm glad that I came upon Boschken Orthodontics to get my braces. I found Dr. David Boschken from his offer on Groupon so I made the purchased and felt confident after doing my research for an orthodontist. Treatment Time: 2 years, 2 months. Office: Boschken Orthodontics is across the street from Kaiser Permanente Hospital near Cottle Rd and Highway 85. The office is clean, simple, and modern. There's a waiting area for guests and a seating area for patients after manually checking into the computer upon arrival. There's a small gaming area for children and a beverage spot for espresso and mini water bottles which I love. Consultation: At first, I was a bit embarrassed since many people get braces during their childhood and teenage years and I am a college student finally getting braces. During my consultation appointment, I had my x-ray taken and Dr. Boschken sat down to discuss with me how he can help with braces. He showed me that I had crowding with my teeth that I can either get Invisalign or traditional braces. Over time, I felt comfortable and nothing to be ashamed about getting braces since Dr. Boschken treat patients from different age ranges. It was inviting how they have a spinning wheel as a welcoming gift where I received an iTunes gift card. Braces: Initially, I thought I could only settle with traditional braces due to crowding. For the same price, I had many options which is fantastic compared to other dental offices and having to choose one or the other. Boschken Orthodontics offers traditional old-fashion braces, Invisalign, and the newly advanced form of braces known as the Damon Braces. I knew I couldn't settle with Invisalign if I knew I could take it out the pain of the alignment process, so I settled with Damon Braces. The difference of Damon Braces and traditional braces is that Damon Braces is simply just brackets and wire without having the need of placing colored rubber bands on each bracket like the old-fashion braces. Damon Braces are actually a lot more flexible and lesser pain. The Damon Braces is much better to maintain in hygiene than the traditional braces with the rubber bands. The clear Damon Braces is just the center 5 teeth of the top row as ceramics and throughout my treatment, hardly anyone notice my braces unless I have a huge smile. Going to the orthodontist for me growing up was a bit nerve racking but when you walk into Boschken Orthodontics you are greeted with a warm welcome and a beautiful office. I rarely write reviews and feel that professional offices like these don't get enough reviews (bad or positive) to really give a reader a good amount of information before choosing to go to a particular office, so here's my two cents. Today was my first time to Dr. Boschken's office. SCHEDULING: I love it when an office uses technology to make things more convenient. Dr. Boschken's office has an online website system that allows you to find all the information you need, sign up as a new patient, make appointments, pay your monthly payments, and contact the office. They are available early in the mornings 8 AM which is great since this gets it out of the work day before I come into work nearby. I made an appointment online through their website and a person from their office called me back soon enough and sent me an email. I prefer that kind of system: both digital and person. ENVIRONMENT: When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the giant flat screen TV on the wall. Then you notice the giant fish tank. Then the comfortable couches. Everything is so clean and classy and modern-looking. Some of the amenities include cold, refrigerated, bottled water, fresh coffee and two arcade machines! There's plenty of mouth rinsing stations and clean restrooms. The layout of the office is open and spacious with plenty of light streaming through. The feeling is comfortable and relaxing. It's my kind of office. Afterwards, for being a new patient, they allowed me to spin this prize wheel for a free $25 gift card to various stores. It's gimmicky but pretty fun for the kid in you! They are also going towards more of the paperless direction in order to be more green. They also have a referral program: if someone you refer to them signs up as a new patient, you get a $100 VISA gift card. It's the extra mile that they go to that is nice even if it seems slightly gimmicky to some people. STAFF: The staff are very personable and friendly; they smile a lot. They explain everything that is going on and make sure to ask you if you have any questions. For the first visit, you'll meet many people: a person to take your X-rays, a person to take pictures of your teeth, a person to explain the process, and a person to explain the finances, so it may feel like you're getting passed like a basketball but they're all very friendly. Nicole (the person who explains the finances) and Sonya (the person who explained the process) went through everything in the contract and explained all the different types of payment plans; there is a good variety for your convenience, and many are interest free. ORTHODONTIST: Dr. Boschken was friendly enough for me although his talk with me was fairly quick; however, I'm not the type of person that needs a doctor to linger around for too long. I did spend a longer time with his staff than with him but that's just the first consultation visit. He shook my hand when greeting hello and goodbye, maintained eye contact, explained things to me in a language I can understand, and answered my questions. He possesses a knowledge that is up-to-date with the latest orthodontic technology. In my case he explained that I have to use metal braces and not Invisalign, which is his specialty (he gives talks about it across the country too), because I have too much crowding and a narrow/small mouth. I have bad teeth. I should have had braces when I was a kid but we couldn't afford it. Now that I am in my mid-30's I have the money, but I am now too self conscious to walk around with a mouth full of metal. I heard about Invisalign and I got several exams/prices, but in the end I chose Dr. Boschken because of his professionalism and the confidence that I had in him and his office. Dr. Boschken went over the whole procedure with me and I knew what to expect in advance. He and his staff were patient with me and answered all of my questions both in advance as well as after I started the Invisalign procedure. I am several months into my aligners now, and I have been happy with the results so far. His office staff is very friendly and I have never had to wait more than a few minutes for my appointment (and I usually arrive 10 or so minutes in advance). I spent a lot of money for the Invisalign treatment every time the doctor only sees me for a couple minutes once a month. The total process lasted almost 2 years and my teeth became loose. the retainer didn't fit perfectly but they only changed it after strong protest. Even the end result is not my teeth don't align perfectly. The doctor was not the most polite. Overall a disappointing experience. read more

I went in for an initial visit with a very well-hyped orthodontist, and although the office was nice and the staff friendly, the price was ridiculous. Plus, he tried to steer me to one of his friends to have my teeth cleaned BEFORE taking off my braces! So I came on Yelp and looked at some reviews, then emailed 6 different orthos asking for a ballpark figure on price. Lindsey at Dr. Boschken was the first to respond with a phone call. She was very friendly and easy-going on the phone, and scheduled me for a complimentary appointment right away. I loved the feel of Dr. Boschken's office right away. I read on here where someone felt he wasn't used to brown people, and that they seemed to cater to only one ethnic group. Well, I'm as brown as can be and I have a built in radar for that type of thing, but I didn't detect a single drop of it at this office. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Lindsey was very personable and she made my husband and I feel very comfortable. Dr. Boschken came in to talk to us and I was surprised by how outgoing and vibrant he is. He did not seemed rushed at all, and listened to my many concerns about the removal (I had a traumatized tooth from my last ortho visit) and came up with a plan to get the braces off with minimal discomfort to me. His office was very clean and modern (I am germ phobic) and there are 4 nice chairs and a very nice set up. Dr. Boschken was very busy, all the chairs were full, but he spent a lot of time with me. For those who say he is rushed, well, he is. He is the lone dentist and has to supervise his staff. There were a few times that he had to leave me to check on some children, but I didn't mind at all. He spent a lot of time getting my braces out and it was painful to an extent because of my mouth issues. I stopped him when I needed to, and he made the necessary adjustments to ensure my comfort. My previous ortho had the softest touch in the world, so I was spoiled. Dr. Boschken's touch is moderate. All in all, I was very satisfied. The price was right, the treatment was great, the staff was superb. I would highly recommend Dr. Boschken. read more

Our family has been treated by Dr. Boschken for its orthodontic needs for about 10 years. All of us in the family have been patients of Dr Boschken at one point or another. We have always been impressed by the professional customer service displayed by the entire staff. It's always very easy to schedule or reschedule appointments and once you are in the office, they manage their time efficiently, to get you out as soon as possible. This is important because we are both working parents. Both our girls started treatment with Dr Boschken a couple of years ago and they enjoy going to the office because the length of the visits are just right and the staff and Doctor are very helpful and friendly. They always explain all the procedures very thoroughly, so we know exactly what our treatment involves. My husband and I had our Invisilign treatment through Dr Boschken as well and we continue to be reminded for our free 6 month check-ups although our treatment ended years ago. I have referred several friends to Dr Boschken and they are all very happy with his treatment. In general, we are impressed with the quality of work, customer service, the office (very clean and open), the way the staff efficiently manages our appointments and their flexibility. Best Orthodontist in San Jose My 2 oldest children were both treated by Dr. Boschken back in 2006. I was so happy with the care they received, I sent my husband to Dr. Boschken to get Invisalign. I've really gotten to know Dr. Boschken and his staff over the past four years and we are treated like family every time we visit his office. Dr. Boschken has been generous in offering family discounts to each of my children as well as multiple donations to their schools. I am so glad we went to Dr. Boschken! My child's pediatric dentist told me that in order for my daughter's teeth to come in that some would need to be pulled. I had heard more and more that pulling teeth was a thing of the past when it comes to straightening and I'm glad I listened to my inner voice. The ped. dentist even told me to wait a couple of years before seeing an ortho (daughter was 8 at the time)! People please get a second opinion by someone in the specific field before following any expert/doctor advice. Dr. Boschken's office is beautiful! Both adult and child friendly. Their standard practices are very modern and exceed any expectation I had going in. Consultations are complimentary and they give you a fully work up of what's going on and what your options are, without any pressure. They also offer great payment plans, and the account coordinator is very friendly and informative. P.S. Keep in mind he's a doctor, not your best buddy, you're paying for the work and he does it beautifully! Additionally, the staff is very welcoming and accommodating to last minute schedule changes that often occur with my hectic schedule. They give you one-on-one attention and really get to know and care about their patients. My daughter has completed phase one (making space for the teeth) and for that alone I will say that Dr. Boschken is a magician. He makes it look so easy, when others I've seen have broken a sweat trying to figure out an approach. His knowledge and skills are just amazing. Not only that, but he can do it in about 1/3 the time that others I've known had to wear braces. I tell all of the parents I know to take their kids to get a consultation, followed by how exceptionally satisfied I am with the service. But, the truth is, the office speaks for itself! read more

I had full orthodontics as a teenager but suffered a sports accident as an adult. I had multiple facial fractures and completely messed up my bite and alignment. Several years after reconstructive surgery I investigated orthodontics and was told several times the Invisalign was not an option. I found Dr. Boschken at a health fair in San Jose and he assured me that he could address my issues. The initial prognosis was 14 months or more if I was diligent about the program. Well, after only 11 months, my teeth are in perfect alignment and my bite is completely corrected. The office staff was always friendly and helpful. My appointments were always quick but effective and informative. The Dr. was always professional and personable. I would recommend Dr. Boschken to anyone, young or old, regardless of what you've been told about old fashioned braces versus Invisalign. You will love the results! read more

Unfortunately, we had a bad experience. My 9 year old son needed braces, so Dr. Boschen installed an expander and then a retainer to make room for future teeth. That went well. After removing the expander, he decides it's time for braces, even though my son's permanent teeth aren't there yet. In my non-orthodontist-trained-mind I though "Why not wait until all the teeth are there and THEN put the brackets on?". But I trusted the professional, right? And so, my son spent 5 years wearing braces on a combination of baby teeth and a few permanent ones. Dr. Boschken also recommended that our dentist pulled 10 of my son's baby teeth to "encourage" the permanent ones to come out. He also showed an impatient demeanor and not a lot of finesse dealing with kids. After all that time, my son's regular dentist mentioned that his teeth are still misaligned. I asked around for a recommendation of a good orthodontist for my other son. This time around we found a wonderful doctor who, after doing the same expander first routine, then braces, he actually waited until the boy's permanent teeth were out to put the braces on. What a concept! My advice: ask as many people you trust as possible before committing to an orthodontist. I was lucky to have many neighbors with kids who told me about the second doctor. I wish my other kid had had the same good experience though :( Positive: nice and polite staff. read more

It seems to me that they only cater for one particular racial group of people. The experience was not great. Receptionists were distant. The financial person kepts foregrounding the importance of beauty. Well, guess what, I wanna to straighten my teeth because of ORAL HEALTH. As I stressed a thousand times during the meeting, cosmetic changes are bonus to me as I am more than happy about how I look. The ortho sounded ok but I could't get a boost from him. The office is spacious but it has no equipment. They will have to send you to somewhere to extract teeth and take x-ray - making life even more miserable. They gave you so little time to consider - they called me after 3 days in a very early morning and that sucks. read more

Stay away from them unless you are comfortable paying them up front and dont worry about getting money from insurance. They put a lot of pressure to pay money upfront and act as if they are doing you a favor when you ask for billing details and help with insurance.I got the feeling that they are just interested in getting money and didnt particularly care for the customer. read more

I've definitely had an awesome experience with Boschken Orthodontics. It is honestly a joy and an enlightenment to my day when I go into the office. Dr. Boschken was so informative and took the time he needed to make it a good experience for me. The dental office is very clean and by far the nicest dental office I've ever seen. Very modern and very family friendly as well. The staff there are AWESOME to say the least. Everyone is always so willing to help out and answer any question I had. I went today for a consultation for some minor cosmetic repairs to my teeth; not only was Dr. Boshken and staff on time and attentive, but he ultimaltely recommended forgoing braces!
