Bosphorus is such a cozy and intimate restaurant. The moment you walk in, everything from the decor, the seating and the house the restaurant is in - everything feels so welcoming like you are being invited to dinner with family. Having been to Turkey, I was incredibly excited to find Bosphorus. The portions are very generous for the price and we usually end up with plenty of leftovers. They are currently open for carryout - just call them up and let them know your order. They have lots of different items on the menu so there is something for everyone to try. Most recently I ordered the Sultan's Delight and it was so delicious - so good it was difficult to save those leftovers! We really lucked out!! I had no idea what a gem this place was. We arrived at like 5:45 on a Saturday. There was like two tables full. I asked for a table for two. They said "do you have a reservation?" I smiled and almost laughed. The place seemed empty. She said "well, maybe we can fit you in." We sat down and at 6 pm every single table was full. We ordered two things to split. The Appetizer Combo. This was an enormous amount of food for an appetizer. We ate about 1/8 of it and were very pleased. The hummus is to die for. We will probably just get that next time for just the two of us to split. This is a great ape rider for a larger group. We split the Bosporus Special. This comes with six different delicious, meaty delights. Lamb, chicken, beef and some were kebabs. Really a great meal to split for two. Wonderfully satisfying and my meat loving husband was very pleased. Next time we will be making a reservation!! Thank you for fitting us in. We LOVED it. For lunch, I got the 2-course special for only $15 which included a hummus appetizer and a Adana meal, which was a great amount of food for the price. I finally tried Bosphorus Cafe months after a friend told me about it. I read some Yelp reviews and decided to call ahead and make reservations. The person on phone was very friendly and polite. When we got there, parking was not much of a hassle as there is a private lot and street parking shared between two restaurants. The person at the front desk greeted us and immediately showed us our table. To get started, we ordered Babaganoush, which arrived with warm and fresh pita. For entrée, I ordered Chicken Adana and my husband ordered a chicken kabab. The service was quick, I think the time between placing order and food being served was 8-10 minutes. The chicken Adana was very juicy and succulent. The chicken kabab was well-seasoned but I think I liked chicken Adana more. The portion size is good; see pictures. When someone mentioned Turkish food I was all in. It's been a long time since I've had these delectable treats. This café is in a renovated house and is absolutely adorable. The atmosphere takes you back in time. There is limited seating so I would recommend reservations especially if it is a weekend. The menu is quite extensive and does have vegetarian options. The group I was with had a little bit of everything so the pictures tell a story. The servings were generous and very tasty! Overall I would have to recommend the lamb chops and don't forget all that wonderful feta cheese! The bar is limited to beer and wine so don't expect any fancy drinks. Still speechless over this meal. Ambiance, variety, service, flavors, presentation-they had it all. Staff was slightly short in conversation, however we don't mind that at all. He answered any questions we had and was friendly. We ordered the sampler for 2 which came with several different items-if you don't like certain ones, you can substitute for more of another (but cannot sub for other items on the menu). I recommend trying them all however, as I hadn't before and they were fantastic. We also got the falafel which was best we've ever had, and I can say the same for the Kofta. Hands down, the best and probably only Turkish restaurant in Indianapolis from what I've heard! the decor is pretty and super cool looking, makes the ambiance warm and inviting. The staff is so friendly and always willing to accommodate to dietary needs. Really wish they had some dishes that are seed oil free, that would really put these guys over the top. After ~5 great visits in recent years, Bosphorus is fully deserving of this 5-star review. At each visit, we've received friendly and attentive service. The personable owner is often there greeting guests. The restaurant space seems like a converted house and consists of three cozy rooms with adorned walls. While the dining atmosphere feels more intimate, their menu is perfect for sharing and family-style dining. On our last visit, we brought some relatives with Lebanese heritage, and they absolutely loved the food and the Turkish twist on some of the dishes. If you do attend with a group or family, order the appetizer combo and the Bosphorus Special to get a good sampling of their menu. Of these samplers, the hummus, tabouli, & chicken kebab were standouts. The Spinach Chicken entree was also delicious and something we'll order again. Appetizer Combo is superb. The food is delicious. It's become a family favorite when we are in Indy. The reason for the 4 stars instead is 5 is that the service is just okay. Night out with my 16 year old is alway a great time as he is willing to try new places. Bosphorus did not disappoint. I greatly enjoyed the Efes Pilsen beer as recommended by our waiter. It was satisfying, so much so that yes I had two. As an app we had the Borek. I have never had this before but was so very good. Warm delicious cheese yum kind of things in the shape of a taquitos. For the entrée I had the Adana kabob. This mildly spicy ground of lamb that was delicious well prepared and can sometimes be dry this was not it was perfect. I did ask for a side of their tzatziki sauce mainly out of curiosity and it was refreshing and I believe had mint in it. Everything was prepared beautifully. My 16-year-old had the Gyro he was very satisfied. He also had the hot tea and on a chilly night really hit the spot. I can't count how many good meals I've had at Bosphorus Cafe! We stop in often so I'm surprised I haven't posted a review. We went for an early dinner and there was plenty of space. It can get crowded so keep that in mind before heading over. We always start with the hummus. It's a large serving (much larger than most places) and comes with the best sliced pita bread. The bread is soft and warm and bite size so the appetizer is perfect for sharing. We have tried many entrees but recently have started sharing the Bosphorus Special. It's a very long plate full of amazingly seasoned and grilled meats. There is also a small veggie mix and small serving or rice. In addition, it comes with a beautiful salad garnished with tomatoes, cucumbers and feta. I like to accompany my meal with the Turkish wine- the red is delicious. The glasses are fairly priced and pair perfectly with the entrees. And who can leave without dessert!? The rice pudding and baklava are perfect! The restaurant is quaint and unique. The food is amazing and the servers are friendly. They have a nice outdoor dining area as well. Plenty of street parking and a small lot on the side of the building. Last night, I went to a restaurant that I haven't been to before. The Bosphorus Cafe is the only Turkish restaurant in the Indianapolis area as far as I have researched. There were a lot of similarities between Greek and Turkish food. I love Greek food, but it was refreshing to not have the food overpowered by citrus lemon and herbs flavors. I tried the Turkish coffee, hummus, and a server recommendation of the Bosphorus Special (Mixed grilled combination of Chicken Kebab, Kofte, Doner, Beef Kebab, Adana Kebab and Chicken Adana Kebab).
