One of my coworkers wanted to take my team here for a lunch and we all were pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. Since the restaurant is in an old converted residential building, the dining are has a nice cozy feel to it. The only downside with this is that I could easily see where it would be on a wait to get a table for dinner. Therefore, I would highly recommend making a reservation. The food was fantastic! Still in my top 5 restaraunts! I love their food. It's authentic, and delicious, and thee servings are large and you can take home enough for tomorrows lunch. The service is impeccable. I really appreciate a server who knows when to check on you, and when to holdback. The ambiance is great. What a hidden gym not too far from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis! I'll confess that I don't often seek out Turkish cuisine but there are not a ton of options like this back home either. From the moment you walk through the door, the ambience and fragrant aromas welcome you in. We started with the appetizer sampler which is a very generous portion. We also tried the zucchini pancakes which were also tasty. I ordered the special for my meal which is a variety of meats. Everything was seasoned well and super tasty and you can really appreciate the authenticity in the preparation and flavors. We couldn't eat here and not try some baklava to close out the meal. It was EXCELLENT and I have had lots of baklava all over the world. I could have eaten a ton of it but I was so full from my meal that I could barely finish. AMAZING Turkish restaurant on the edge of downtown. I ordered the doner, tzatziki, and Turkish coffee. Everything was amazing. The doner was so good. And the rice and vegetables that came with it were both out of this world. The Tzatziki was delicious. Finally, I have always wanted to try Turkish coffee. It did not disappoint. This place is uniquely decorated, full of character. We were a party of 8 and had a reservation. We were seated right away once we arrived. One of my friend has a lot of food allergies. One of the thing she is allergic to is Soybean oil, or anything that is cooked with Soybean oil. Most restaurants will use Soybean oil to cook their food. Bosphorus was able to accommodate her needs and they cooked her food separately without the use of Soybean oil. Everything that we ordered came out pretty quickly and it was fresh. The menu has something for everyone and the portion size for each item was pretty big. The gentleman who took our order (possibly the owner) was incredibly friendly, funny and attentive. He interacted with us the whole time. Made us feel very welcomed. For appetizer, we ordered Hummas and zucchini pancake. The zucchini pancake was nothing like a "pancake." It was more like zucchini fritters. It was really good. Pro Tip- Get the Hummus! It's so good. I have tried hummus from different places and Bosphorus has the best Hummus! For Entrée, we ordered, the Spinach Chicken, Chicken Adana Kebab, Doner Gyro, and The Bosphorus Salad. Every single dish was delicious. Perfectly season, perfectly cooked. For dessert, we ordered the Tiramisu cake. The cake was good, but it didn't taste anything like "Tiramisu" cake, but it was still a good cake. I also, had the Turkish coffee. If you never had Turkish coffee before, it's like having a shot of expresso. You get a little bit of coffee, but very strong coffee. Highly recommend Bosphorus Café! Lots of decorative tchatchkis on the wall adds to the ambience. Service was good. They accommodated us without reservations but did get our order wrong. Nonetheless, it was a busy night and I totally get it. The food: I didn't see what the big deal was tbh Had the salad. It was so so. Had the lentil soul, so so. The kebab platter was better. Chicken was flavorful but did not stand out. My companion had the chicken wrap and it was .... So so Would I return? Probably not. This is for a delivery order therefore I can open speak about the food. This evening I tried Bosphorus Cafe for the first time. I had a craving for hummus and HAD to have it. Aside from hummus, I ordered the Feta Plate, Dolmas, and a lemonade. The order came with a huge portion of grilled naan. It was warm and delicious when it arrived. The hummus ended up being a large portion and tasted homemade. Domas were flavorful. The Feta Plate was the star of the show. I found the cheese to be perfectly salty and amazing. The hummus, tabouli, Ezme, dolma, and eggplant salsa were a hit at our table. The helping of pita was generous too. They were all good, but the star among them was the eggplant salsa. Even though this was served cold, it had such a deep roasted flavor. The complexity of flavors. Super good. Next time I go I'd order a whole serving of that. You can order the appetizer combo for two, three, or four. Between the three of us, the combo for three was more than enough. 5 stars - The falafels were a great vegetarian option. The gyro wrap was a hit at the table and the size of a chipotle burrito. Their portions are generous here. 3 stars - Even though there are raving reviews about it, we weren't a fan of the zucchini pancakes. There were quite a few people waiting to be seated but we were seated quickly with the waitress coming to take our drink orders shortly after being seated even when the restaurant was slammed! Always a good sign seeing a full restaurant. It was a tough decision choosing what to get because it all sounded amazing. My friend and I decided to split The Bosphorus Special and I highly recommend it! It was about $46 and came with SO MUCH! Flavorful and well seasoned and cooked meat of different varieties, rice, and veggies. Split between two people, it was a great option for a full meal and a great price. We both had enough for leftovers as well and had it for lunch the next day. The atmosphere was welcoming and really felt like entering someone's house with an eclectic mix of decorations. The servers were friendly and helpful as well! We ended the night with the tiramisu. Flavor wise it wasn't much to write home about but this place knocked my socks off flavor wise with their entrees. Delightful hospitality from start to finish. I started with some traditional hummus and ezme - the former incredibly velvety smooth and nutty, the latter roasted garlicky goodness. The pita was satisfying but could be jazzed up a little to become more of a signature staple, as they have so many lovely options for dipping on the appetizer platter. The vibrant Bosphorus Salad came in with a generous portion of crisp vegetables in a light lemony dressing, also served with some dolma. On recommendation from a local, I tried the Adana Kebab, a nicely charred yet juicy row of lamb and beef patties with just the right amount of heat. The gently seasoned rice and mixed zucchini/carrots were wonderful. Had I known more salad was coming on this plate, could have passed on the Bosphorus, but I was happy to sample around. What a gem this place is! We went here for dinner the first day we were in Indianapolis. The house was cute, ornately decorated with small rugs, knick knacks, lights, bulbs, arts and crafts. I've been wanting to visit this spot for so long and finally went for lunch! It's a small building filled with Mediterranean decor and offering a small front patio and a few parking spots out back. We were greeted by a host who quickly sat us. There were several tables already filled at noon on a Monday, which I thought was impressive. Pita was dropped off at the table, complimentary. Since we were first-timers, we started with the appetizer combo so we could try a bit of everything. It came with hummus, tabouli, babaganush, salsa, dolma and ezme. The babaganush is always my favorite. This app is a beautiful sight to be seen and I'd definitely recommend. If you only have two people, you will have leftovers. I also did the lunch special which allows for a started and entree for $15. I opted for the lentil soup and the "lamb Mediterranean" entree. The soup was very hearty, rich, and filling. It's all broth, and does not have lentils in bean form, rather mashed and purified. It was a big portion as well, and I ended up taking most of it home (which I'll be thrilled about when dinner rolls around). The lamb dish was the star for me. It came with sauteed lamb, tomato sauce, green and red bell peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic and onions. It was sooooooo delicious. The lamb melted in my mouth and the flavoring was perfect. I've only had lamb a handful of times in my life and while it isn't usually my go-to order, I'm so glad I tried it here. Now I'm never going to be able to branch out, knowing how good this option is. This was a great way to try several things without committing to one large entree. This was a great dish to split and talk through what we thought as we tried everything. I had never had lamb before and this was good - a really smoky flavor and chewy but not tough texture. The chicken was really flavorful too. The veggies and rice were a nice light side in between all these meats. Service was friendly and parking is easy. My husband and I are currently in Indianapolis for a work conference, and I was excited to find this Turkish restaurant. I lived in Turkey from 2001-2006, but my husband and I haven't been able to travel there together yet, unfortunately. This was the next best thing, though. The mixed grill platter was also great for sharing, but I wish it was served with extra servings of rice for everyone sharing the platter (we had to order extra). I hate giving negative reviews especially on a place that I know has good food. However we stopped in for lunch today and were immediately seated. There were 2 other tables so definitely not busy. We sat there for 15mins with no one coming to our table or even acknowledging us. Another table came in and got seated and received drinks while we still just sat there. So we got up and left and walked right past a server and he didn't say anything to us it wasn't until we told him why we were leaving that he said oh I'm sorry I was going to be to your table soon. I can understand if you're busy but when both servers only have one table each there's no excuse for not acknowledging someone or at least taking their drink order. read more
