We sampled a variety of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Anastasia Red Blend, Grenache, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay--each one was excellent. Mickey is also a sommelier, and his knowledge really shows. He not only educated us on the wines but also highlighted and supported other local businesses. We had a series of issues from the start. Our assigned waiter was completely inattentive; he ignored our table, failed to check on us, and never brought the cheese board we ordered. We eventually had to flag down another member of the staff just to get any service at all. Even after we caught his attention, our server seemed aware of us but made no effort to approach or assist. Additionally, the wait time for our wine flights was excessively long. When the cheese board finally arrived, I was shocked to find that all three cheeses were served still inside their original plastic wrappers--not even sliced. To make matters worse, we were provided with plastic knives to cut the cheese ourselves, which was incredibly difficult and frustrating. I have never encountered a cheese board served this way at any establishment. I really wanted to enjoy this visit, and I want to give credit to the other waitresses who were working that day--they were great and were the only saving grace of the experience. However, the lack of basic service and the bizarre presentation of the food made this a trip I wouldn't recommend

Thankfully, Cory stepped in and was welcoming, professional, and kind enough to offer us samples of the wines we were interested in trying. What was completely unacceptable, however, was Amanda making comments like, "the owner doesn't even like you." This was both inappropriate and unprofessional, especially considering I do not know the owner and the owner does not know me. There was absolutely no reason for such a disrespectful remark. And that is just ONE example of remarks she made to my friend and I. She also talked down on a stutter that I have, just inappropriate!! The manager or owner (not sure which roll he played exactly) seemed to have been drinking because while he was defending his out of line staff, he yelled "I'm not even supposed to be here, I should be out golfing!" As if that was my fault. Overall, this was a horrible experience and a major disappointment from a place I used to genuinely enjoy and recommend to friends. It is unfortunate that what was once a great spot is now associated with such poor treatment and lack of professionalism.

I asked him to describe any behavior of mine that would call for me to be cut off and he couldn't. We left and enjoyed a beer at the Irish bar with no problem and was served by a polite and friendly bartender. Wine Therapy guy might want to take some notes.

This specific experience is from a few months ago, and is a part of a growing frustration with what…read morehas become of this formerly wonderful sandwich shop. This isn't about public shaming, hopefully it's clear this is about flagging to management that their staff requires more hands on training around food handling, product quality, tidiness and presentation. We ordered four sandwiches around 1:00pm mid week, nobody else was there and there were no tickets ahead of us--just two teenaged boys who looked seriously confused and undertrained and even openly joked about how slow things had been that day--which was an odd comment for a restaurant that looked like it hadn't been bussed yet after a lunch rush. It took both of them about 40 minutes to make four sandwiches in an extremely haphazard manner that inexplicably required them leaving to the back room a lot and returning empty handed--they both weren't familiar with the ingredients of the specialty sandwiches and they joked shoulder to shoulder as they both fumbled through completing the order. I was pretty shocked at how unkept the entire food prep station appeared and the counters and tables hadn't been bussed and were attracting large horseflies from outside --why weren't these guys bussing tables if it was so slow? Why was there A LOT of yellow mustard smeared across the low boy fridge doors? Where was the supervision? Why was it taking so long to make sandwiches that were on the menu with zero modifications? Why was the music so loud? Why was the kid who was just counting cash out of the tip jar, now handling food without washing his hands or wearing gloves? It was a barrage to the senses and a bizarre vignette into an ever-declining understanding of quality service and hospitality standards coupled with an ever-rising high cost of goods. When we got to the park down the street and opened the bag none of the sandwiches had been wrapped properly, no tape, no restrictive folds, just loose sheets of hand crumpled parchment paper, barely restraining the food inside with 360 degree wet condiments covering the OUTSIDE of every sandwich parcel--if you can even call them that. It was a disaster inside that bag. You couldn't reach your hand into the bag without it coming out covered in misc condiments. That same day I called the restaurant to ask if I could speak to the owner and share our observations, the person who answered said that person wasn't available. And before I could ask for an email, the kid hung up on me--but I can't blame him for that, he probably couldn't hear me over the insanely loud music playing on his side of the line.

The sandwich week Reuben was a half sliced bread with a generous amount of meat. The sauerkraut had a nice tang and the sauce gave it the perfect amount of moisture. So those of you on a low-carb diet this is a perfect sandwich for you. The potato and onion knish tasted like garlic mashed potato wrapped in pastry and it was delicious. The latkes came with sour cream and apple sauce... I preferred dipping it in the hummus. The sarice's harissa and hummus plate was very delicious. Everything was flavorful. While putting my plate away I did notice someone didn't eat the harissa. My guess is that they couldn't handle spiciness. To me, the harissa had the perfect spicy-ness and made me wish they gave us more. If you can't handle spicy, try mixing the red harissa with the hummus. The hummus was flavorful and not super salty! Even the olives they put on the hummus wasn't as salty as a lot of other places. The green sauce was also good. I would definitely come back for the hummus plate. Esp for the pita bread. It was super soft and almost like eating a cloud from heaven. The stuffed cabbage almost reminded me of how my mom makes it and they do provide some bread to dip it in... But the hummus was too addicting so I ended up dipping that bread mainly in the hummus. To me the coffee was mild but it went well with the food. But iced tea had a nice floral flavor. Near the end of the meal they did give us some dessert on the house. Since I didn't see the chocolate chip cookie when we ordered I knew that was fresh. The rugelach were a nice 2 biter...or you could eat it in one big bite. The black and white cookie had a lemony flavor that dries up your mouth, so its best with coffee or tea. The warm chocolate cookie initially made me think it had raisins in it, but there were no raisins. The chocolate cookie had flavors that reminded me of fall with warm baking spices like cinnamon or warm apple pie spices. It was interesting and made it unique. Service is also really good...they had a place to drop off your dishes, but throughout our meal we had employees stopping by the check on us and remove some plates. They also made some small talk to give you a personal experience.

The scrambled eggs were creamy and delicious without feelng under-cooked and the fresh bread, slightly toasted to perfection, with high end buitter and homemade strawberry jam. I also could not resist the passionfruit beignet...YUM-MY :) Top that off with a mocha latte and you have a very saitisfying breakfast to kick off the day!

So that would normally balance itself out, however, the price is what made me knock it down to a 2-star. Granted, I'm not from SB and this was my first and only time being there, but given this experience, I wouldn't come back.
