Don't shop here. Gave it another chance, but when I returned my ski/boot rentals, I was verbally assaulted by an employee for not buckling the boots upon return. They refused to give me a return receipt. This store benefits from its location and not a lot of competition around the area. The staff is rude and obnoxious. read more

Rented skis for our family of 5 here. Husband took his out last week on a bunny slope with our toddler. This week, we went to Wachusett and his bindings were so loose that he couldn't even click into them. Paid $30 for wachusett to tighten them, and they assure us that this was an issue with the rental company. Alarmingly, the same thing happened in my sister's family - they rented skis for the family, and my niece's bindings were dangerously loose. Also, they didn't have my husband's boot size when we went for rentals, and the ski poles they rented us are very short. (Husband is a size 13, so not the most common size, admittedly. And we are 5'9 and 6'3, so definitely need tall poles... but stillll....) read more

I want to acknowledge and thank Ben and Sam in the Newton store for being the nicest, most informed, helpful and pleasant store workers I have ever had met. A couple months ago Ben spent over an hour with me and my boots to get the fit better and encouraged me to return if there was still an issue. After a ski trip to Bretton Woods on Thursday, I realized that my heel was too tight and I called and spoke with Ben, who said to come in- despite the full schedule- and that Sam, who had been a full time boot fitter, could help me. No sooner did I arrive, that Sam appeared and worked me for over an hour to adjust my boots and talk skis and skiing. What a great team of workers and I commend you both. Your store is my go to ski shop and I thank everyone who said hello, smiled and showed extreme courtesy. read more

I went to Boston Ski and Tennis for a boot fitting appointment. A very knowledgeable technician took measurements and had me try on a couple of options. The guy was polite and had extensive knowledge and experience related to BS&T products and services, outside products and options, as well as an in-depth understanding of foot physiology and how it relates to the work he was doing. It was, by far, the most experienced, technical, and useful discussion that I have had at any ski shop in my 35 years playing in the snow. It is a bit of a drive for me to go to BS&T, but I will definitely go back for anything related to S&T. read more

I've gotten my skis tuned there a few times. They do a pretty good job with two problems: 1. Their prices are a bit steep 2. They put stickers on each ski that have a ridiculous amount of glue on them. After peeling them off, I have to use Goo Gone to remove the glue... which I don't typically have with me when I'm skiing so I have to stare at the sticky rectangles on the skis until I can remember the Goo Gone. They should definitely look into a better system!!!! read more

Sam was AMAZING!!! I have not yet encountered a boot fitting service like this on the East Coast. He spent nearly two hours with me measuring and assessing my foot and ensuring I had the best boot fit possible. He was incredibly knowledgable not only about the equipment but also about foot anatomy and function. Wow - this was really fantastic. Not much of a selection of tennis apparel, tennis shoes, etc. Bought a tennis bag there, which started falling apart two months after I got it. Took it back and was told I couldn't get a refund from the store, I had to leave the bag, which would be sent back to Wilson, and I would eventually hear from Wilson and get a replacement. Weeks went by. Finally got a call from the store saying that I would receive an email with a credit I could use online to order a new bag from Wilson. Never got the email. Sent an email to the store and received a reply from a manager saying I would get the email, which I still haven't gotten. Very frustrated. If you buy a tennis bag from a store and it falls apart in two months, the STORE should give you a refund or a replacement. And if Wilson has to be involved, then all that should be expedited quickly. I want my new bag! read more

Went in for a ski boot fitting thinking my issue was unresolvable. I learned that nothing seems unreasonable to these guys! Ben help me and he was GREAT! He explained everything, took a munch of measurements, tested things out... it was awesome! And I tested the boots this weekend and it was SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!! There are a bunch of shops out there, but the level of knowledge and technical expertise of these guys is hard to find elsewhere. Highly recommended! read more

I purchased ski boots here very early in the season. They seemed ok in the store but when I skied in them, I knew they were not the solution for me. I brought them back and Ryan, my original boot fitter, provided me with alternatives to adjust the boot. I declined and requested a different boot entirely. He brought out several for me to try and explained the differences of each boot. I made my selection and took them for a test drive a couple of days later. Long story short, this boot is terrific. Thank you, Ryan, for making my experience top notch and for keeping me on the slopes. Any place can sell a boot, but only a few can fit a boot. Don't know what I would do without BS&T. read more

Dissappointed customers! Poor boot fitting! Our family has been renting our child's ski equipment from Boston Ski and Tennis for five years. We had planned to purchase her entire ski equipment once she stopped growing. Not now. We purchased helmets, goggles and all kinds of accessories and equipment from BST. My husband and I purchased our new skis, poles and boots three years ago. We both have had problems with our feet ever since. Bruised, broken and lost toe nails. At first we didn't realize as it wouldn't show up until three months after ski season ended. Finally, a foot doctor confirmed it was the ski boots as we skipped one year of skiing and it didn't happen but sure enough right after the following year of skiing it came back 3-4 months later, toe nails coming off. Recently, I scheduled an appointment with their ski boot fitting department. Of course the employee who fitted us is long gone (Dan). The solution offered to me was to cut a hole in the liner. I didn't agree and am glad I did not. Every person I consulted with told me my foot would freeze and the boot would be useless/worthless after. The liner of the boot I was sold was far too small for my foot and most likely the same for my husband. I asked if I could purchase a larger liner but was told that it wouldn't work. The only option offered was to leave the boot to see if it could be stretched which they charged us $80 dollars for. Couldn't believe it. We ski with a large of group of adults and kids who don't purchase boots from Boston Ski and Tennis but instead from other stores but from a variety of other stores, country Ski & Sport, Parlor Ski & Snowboards, the yearly Ski Expo and a few other ski equipments companies. None of them have ever had this kind of problem with their boots yet both my husband and I do and it's the result of a poor job at boot fitting. No doubt! We are not happy with the solution offered to us. We will see if stretching the boot/liner will work but we believe Boston Ski and Tennis should have offered us more after being customers and the investment we have made in their products and merchandise over the last five years. My husband is an Alum of Norwich and a veteran who wanted us to use Boston Ski and Tennis since the owner is also an alum. Not returning back. read more

Great selection of racquets! Great and prompt stringing!!! I purchased some over wraps and the young man ringing them up asked me if I wanted one on the new Head racquet so I said sure, why not! He did an excellent job - better than I could have done , and considering how busy the store was 3 days before Christmas, I appreciated his offer and pleasant demeanor! First visit to Ski & Racquet, but I'll be coming back!!! Parking, because of the approaching holiday was a little dicey, but I found a space both times without too long a wait. I only interacted with Phoebe, so this is more a review about her than about the store at large. Initially on the phone, and then during my two visits to the store, she was so patient in fielding all my (probably very boring) questions, in the context of getting my racquets tuned up, as well as buying new equipment for my husband. I explained that I was trying to get back into tennis after a decade of not playing, and needed to start with the basics. I also wanted to introduce my husband to the sport, in the hopes it could become a fun shared activity for us. Phoebe understood implicitly, super helpful and very sweet every step of the way. She expertly restrung and regripped my old racquet, which feels better than ever to play with, and then steered my husband toward a good basic all-around racquet that was a good value for a beginner. Phoebe appears to be one of the youngest employees at the store, but her poise and level-headed demeanor suggests someone with loads of experience. I hope Boston Ski & Tennis recognizes what a gem they have with her as their employee. I'll definitely be returning to their shop in the future -- entirely because of the great service she provided. read more

I purchased a tennis racquet from Boston Ski And Tennis about two weeks ago. My experience with the demos was great. Unfortunately I was in the ER on Sunday, Feb. 6th and have learned that I have degenerative disc issues and should not play tennis. The physician stated that my recent participation in tennis clinics could have contributed to the flare up. The racquet that I purchased two weeks ago has never been used. It still has the plastic wrapping on the handle. I just spoke with a sales associate who stated that since the racquet was strung they will not take the racquet back or refund me. She didn't even offer to try to sell it for me or offer to buy it back as a demo. There was no empathy on her part either. She didn't say "oh, I am sorry to hear that." No words of kindness. Me: "Hi, I'd like to lease some boots and skis for the season" BS&T: "Okay, just sign in here, and someone will be right with you" (20 minutes later) BS&T: "Alright--what size boot are you?" Me: "Well I wear about a size 9 shoe (Mens)" BS&T: "Let me check what we have" (5 minutes later) BS&T: "We are all out of size 9" Me: "What about maybe an 8.5 or a 9.5" BS&T: (doesn't go to the back) "..Yeah we're out of those too" Me: "Well then....thanks anyway." I guess I don't understand how your supply inventory doesn't match up with your demand. I saw another customer in front of me also get turned away because they were sold out of her size boots. A nice/pretty looking shop, but not so much functional. I probably won't be back, but maybe they'll read this and change their business model to adapt to their customers needs. read more

This is a review of the ski boot fitting and sale of boots at Boston Ski and Tennis in Newton, Ma. There was a $25 fee to book a boot fitting. Once I arrived the staff member seem to be an expert and took measurements. After 15 minutes he notified me there would be a $50 fee if I did not buy the boots from Boston Ski and Tennis. There were two boots presented to me to try on one boot fit better than the other but still had areas that didn't fit comfortably. I requested to try on other boots. He discouraged me from trying on more boots. I was told they would not be responsible for boots not recommended if had issues once purchased. The the one year guarantee for boot fit adjustments would not be included. They offer a service to make custom foot beds for over $150. They do not offer custom for beds for boots not purchased at Boston Ski and Tennis. I purchased the boots to return another day to custom fit a foot bed. The $25 booking fee was refunded with the purchase. I cancelled the boot refitting and went to store to return the boots. I was in charge $50 for the fitting service. I questioned the reason for the charge. I proceeded to discuss with the manager about the unreasonable fee. I am dissatisfied with the customer service. I explained how I came to Boston Ski and Tennis to support the small business and he did not react or show gratitude. I have been a long time customer renting skis, purchased a tennis racquet and ski clothing over the years. I will not go back to Boston Ski and Tennis in the near future. . read more

I went to the newton location for help with my ski boots hurting my feet terribly. The fitter (older gentleman) was very helpful and hooked me up with custom inserts to take home that day. I had also mentioned bruising on my shins and when he found out I lived over an hour away, and was going to Colorado to ski the next week, he told me he could get it done in 30 min. Overall very good experience and my inserts helped tremendously on my trip! Will be going back when I need to upgrade to better boots read more

Can't speak more highly of the customer service and the quality of the product. Not only did Ryan know his stuff cold, he took the time to properly evaluate our profile to ensure we were paired with the right equipment. We also started the fitting late in the day and he did not rush the process though he had to stay past closing. He also made sure that we got a good deal - given that ski equipment is never cheap, him making sure we were getting great quality for a great price meant a lot. The guy at the front counter was really rude and confrontational right off the bat for no reason. After I was misled by the answering machine stating they're only taking walk-ins (apparently walk-ins are just for rentals and everything else requires an appointment), I showed up as a walk-in and there was nobody in the store except at least three employees. I asked about ski boots and they gave me a look and said they wouldn't even let me try on a pair of boots without an appointment AND that they're booked on appointments until 2 weeks from today so basically, leave. Again, there was NO OTHER CUSTOMERS in the store to warrant turning new customers away. Waste of a trip. read more

I called Boston Ski & Tennis first last week to ask about getting my skiis tuned up for an upcoming trip. The girl was super helpful on the phone in explaining what the ski shop would do/how much it would be, etc. I brought my skiis in yesterday and had an equally as good experience! I walked in carrying my skiis and boots and someone directed me to the back desk right away. The guy who helped me took a quick look at my skiis and told me that they would be able to work on them without a problem! The whole process was super quick and I was told skiis would be ready in only an hour! I didn't shop around (too much temptation) but it looks like they have a ton of nice gear too. read more

I happily spent $1,000 preparing for a ski trip in early January. Bought a pair of ski pants for a friend, who didn't end up needing them (sales clerk was extremely helpful). Went to VT for 4 days, came back to MA, 10 day quarantine. On my first day out of quarantine, I returned the snow pants. Come to find out that BS&T has a 14 day return policy. On day 15, at 10:05am (5 minutes after they opened) I was told I was only allowed a store credit, not a refund. When I explained that I was quarantining and asked them to honor the refund, I was told that despite their 'lenient' policies that 'we're all dealing with COVID and its repercussions' and there was nothing that can be done. So, did they do anything wrong? No. They stuck to their 14 day return policy. However, I'd recommend that they consider extending their return policy. If I had known that I'd lose out on $300 (now that I have ski clothes I don't need to shop there again, thus rendering the store credit useless) trying to do something nice for a friend, because I followed MA guidelines of quarantining, I wouldn't have spent the $1,000 there to begin with. read more

The day I brought my skiis in for basic service I had to wait for the customer service person to finish a personal conversation with another customer before I was helped. When I returned on the day that they told me they would be ready they were not. I needed them specifically for that day. They told me I could come back in an hour and they would have them ready. I was unable to return that day and had to make a special trip to come back when they opened the next morning. Nothing was offered to correct the situation. You decide if you want to deal with this type of customer service practice. read more

I made a ski rental appointment for December 23. I did this well in advance as in back in early September. I book one this late and close to Christmas every year for a very specific reason. I have a niece who comes and visits during her school holiday break and she doesn't arrive until close to the holidays. As a single parent hosting multiple houseguests, cooking for the holidays, and bringing two teenagers skiing right after I was extremely busy. I arrive for the ski rentals on the 23rd only to be told they are out of skis. Mind you I have a private 300 dollar ski lesson booked for 9 AM the morning after I arrive at the resort so don't have time to rent on the mountain. I was waited on by some cocky young kid who needs a lesson in customer service. He berated me for "waiting to the last minute" to come in. I asked if they can do what they have done in the past and pull from their sales inventory. It is not my fault if I made an appointment months in advance and their inventory was off. I never got a call giving me a heads up either. He said no he can't do that. I asked to speak to a manager and he said sure but he will tell you the same. The manager was no help other than directing me to one of his competitors. I believe this business was sold recently? I liked the previous owner and staff much better. I have spent thousands of dollars in that store and they have used brand new skis in the past for rentals when they ran out. The manager ended up directing me to a different shop where I decided to purchase not rent my niece skis. So they have lost a good customer for life. read more

I wanted to get my wife skis for Christmas. I don't ski so know nothing but a friend of mine sent me to Boston ski and tennis. Theyy were so helpful in selecting a gift and assured me they would be flexible on an eXchange if she wasn't happy. Well she wanted a smaller set of skis. No questions asked. This year we got season long rentals for our daughters. Again the staff was amazingly helpful. Patient and worked with us to find what we needed at a reasonable a reaasonable price. New location! They now have a full parking lot (they're more or less across the street from where they were) but their new store is AWESOME. Much more spacious, much easier parking and still the same quality of service. These guys, put simply, know their shit. I'd ten times over rather give my money to a place like this for racquet stringing etc. than a Dick's Sporting Goods or some other corporate giant. Here, they actually give a crap about your stuff and have extensive knowledge of what they sell as opposed to the 18 year old high college student on summer break trying to explain the difference between a 16 versus a 17 gauge string when he's more focused on trying to get a booze hook up for a party that weekend. They're not out to up-sell you, ever, they just want to find you what works best for YOU. Stop in and try them out, you will be in great hands. read more
