Fun fun fun. Classics Mexican joint with yummy food and drinks. Came here with my wife and kids (17/13). We started with chips and salsa as well as Margaritas for the adults. Kids had fun fruit drinks. For main courses had the enchiladas, Carne Asada Tacos, and the kids also had enchiladas. Everyone loved their meals and the price was right. Had not even been here before the pandemic. There's lots of space inside so I imagine it could have gotten pretty busy in the old days. But that also means it's ideal for social-distanced dining. There's usually a decent-sized crowd by "new-normal" standards but the employees and customers respect one another's space. I'm a fan of the combo plates and the chicken mole is good. The salsa is decent, the rice and beans are adequate if not anything to write home about in particular. The portions are generous. I try not to waste food and I've left feeling full whenever I visited. The service has always been pleasant. They take care of your needs but don't hover. That's always what I look for, but given the circumstances I think they're doing a great job. It will be interesting to come back when things are more normal and festive. My family & I always love the service & food. We have been to Botanas so many times & always try to come back when we have taste for Mexican. When you are seated you get free chips & salsa & water right away which is great. Then a few minutes later the server comes over to take your drink orders. Our only suggestion will be for all servers to know that the alcoholic's drinks comes w/ sugar & salt by request only. We have tried the beef big chimichanga, steak big chimichanga, combination platter w/ mini chimichanga, enchilada, taco, corn tortilla's steak tacos & beef flour taco's which all comes w/ beans & rice. The drinks are delicious & can not wait until they start back selling pitchers instead of single drinks only. Our only suggestions will be to make sure the shrimp is fresh & cleaned properly because we ordered the shrimp taco's before & had a very fishy smell. My boss recommended I try Botanas and I was definitely not disappointed. The wait was a little bit long, but that was understandable on a Friday night and even more understandable after trying the food. Unfortunately, it was raining, so the patio wasn't open, which I think contributed a little bit to the wait. All of the food was really great and authentic. There were tons of different options and the food came out very quickly! We both got margaritas - strawberry and traditional. The strawberry was my favorite and was definitely not as strong as the other one, which I preferred. Our meals were definitely filling, as there were plenty of sides included on the plate. The chips and salsa were included and the chips were great and didn't break whenever you dipped them, which is not something you always see. Botanas is great whether you are doing sit down or carry out. They bring the food out to you so fast it's honestly insane. I usually do carry out with my husband and they're typically ready within ten minutes for pickup. Parking can be a little challenging at night when it's busy but they do have a parking area and you usually don't have to park more than two blocks at most away. Most of their meals come with beans and rice and are very filling. I like the enchiladas verdes with cheese and onion (I'm vegetarian) and I really like their creamy guacamole too. Their drinks are also very tasty and reasonably priced. Although I normally do carryout one of my favorite things about botanas is the decor.. I love all the murals all over the walls! Nice, large restaurant with different seating areas including a separate bar space. Fun, Mexico-inspired décor and wall paintings. Fast and friendly service. We arrived almost right at 11am when they opened up and the place already had a handful of patrons. Great place to consider when most brunch places in the city are booked or have crazy insane wait times. I speak Spanish and don't always have a chance to so it was fun to speak Spanish with the waiter. Good food served hot. Was a bit more expensive than we expected but for the location and serving size, it wasn't terrible. I ordered cheese enchiladas and would have liked more authentic cheese instead of shredded cheddar. We loved the complimentary house salsa - it was delicious. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The staff was extremely rude. The staff spilled an entire tray of alcoholic drinks on my 6yro son. He was tucked against the wall. The busy staff ran into each other. I have worked in service, so I understand it was an accident. But no one apologized or seemed to care. Worst, they became even more rude after I complained to the manager. The staff started to stand over us and watch us as we ate. I felt intimidated. I moved my son to an open chair away from the wall, and then he started squirming. The waiter really came over and told my son to sit still. I spoke to the manager, and she said it was his fault. So, not only did they spill a tray of alcohol on my 6yro, but they were rude, intimidated us, and blamed him. This was a horrible experience. Please don't eat here. Went here last night for dinner with my girlfriends and it was a blast! They have two parking lots, one next to the building and one across. There is a parking attendant. Make sure to keep your ticket and have your waiter/waitress sign the ticket! This will make it free! If you lose the ticket, you have to pay for losing it. Walked inside and wow is it big! There is plenty of seating area! My group of six sat in the back, and each pair had a basket of chips and salsa to share. The waitress came around with waters and we ordered a pitcher of rainbow margarita! I didn't have more than two sips, but boiiiiiii was it strong! It was super tasty as well! I shared the chicken fajitas with my bestie! The other four girls each got a taco plate! My fajita platter was enormous! There was four corn tortillas along with a plate of beans and rice, and a plate of toppings! There was enough food for my bestie and I to eat there, and take plenty of leftovers for the next day! We got here around 6:30, and stayed until closing! I went here on a first day. It had been years since the last time I've been to Botanas and the food, service and vibes did not disappoint. It was Thursday night and the weather was just right to sit outside in the patio. My date and I ordered enchiladas, I got the mole poblano enchiladas and they were tasty! We also ordered delicious mango and strawberry margarita. I'd say this is a great place for a first date, for a girls night out before hitting the streets of Walker's Point or just a quick but delicious bite. Americanize Mexican food unfortunately. I ordered a burrito and it was soggy, couldn't even pick it up. I'm from California and there are so many great, authentic Mexican restaurants. I was waiting for a replacement but learned that they don't do customer satisfaction by replacing a dropped drink, only if they drop it. On to my food, I ordered a plate that had jalapeños in it, caught my eye with the picture of the jalapeños in it, no jalapeños in my meal, there was more sauce then meat. I asked the waiter and saw a face of annoyance. No crackers with shrimp cocktail because we were told customers never eat them. When you think Mexican food and Milwaukee, Botana's can't help but be one of the first restaurant options to pop into mind. Botana's has so many menu choices, all prepared very well. Parking in the area is at a premium at times, but it usually doesn't take long to find someplace fairly close. The restaurant itself is quite large, but laid out in a manner that it does not feel that way. It can get a little loud at times and I wouldn't consider Botana's a place to go for a quiet date night. Definitely an option for a dinner out with the friends though. There's also a nice outdoor patio area for those few months of Wisconsin summer. I've never had to wait longer than a few minutes to be seated and have always been treated to prompt friendly service. The servers are quick to replenish the complimentary chips & salsa. I enjoy the more gringo Mexican food options and my wife prefers a little more authentic taste. We generally both leave Botana's satisfied with the meal we've just enjoyed. Botana's is a definite Milwaukee institution worthy of a visit. read more

I'm done with the breaded steak, chicken fried steak from the breakfast places because it's all BS frozen crap but I know where I can always get a real one, a Mexican restaurant. The place is way over the top with the tropical motif on the walls and ceilings. There is two off street parking lots so parking is great. There is a nice bar in the main dining room with a room in the back for additional dining area. The rear room made me feel like I was in a museum diorama but the cheap tables and chairs brought me back to the restaurant. The staff did a great job taking care of me from start to finish, water and chips/salsa hit the table right away. I asked my server to suggest the drink that the place is proud of and a premium triple distilled margarita was recommended so that's what I ordered. The loud ass small group birthday party seriously made there presence known which kind of sucked, listen to the video. The chips and salsa were good but the chips didn't look house made because that oil finish was not on the chips but they were fresh. The salsa was in between watery and chunky and more of a purée with nice heat/flavor, I finished it off on the leftovers. The margarita was very good and not one of those sweet ones that other places offer, well worth the premium price. The Milanesa plate hit the table and looked fantastic, Milanesa is a pounded looking steak, breaded and fried if you have never had one. The plate came with cheese and beans, guacamole, rice, pico de gallo and a lettuce garnish with warm corn tortillas. The Milanesa was spot on and hit the spot. The rice never wows me but it was cooked well with nice texture. The beans were tasty with a nice cheese vs bean ratio, on the thick side and not runny. The guacamole was good and creamy and complemented the plate well. The pico de gallo was super tame but worked well. What I love about a plate like this that you can mix and match all the flavors in the tortilla. Overall the plate was very tasty and fresh with a great margarita so what more could you ask for with good service. I enjoyed my lunch throughly after yesterday's disappointment and just what I needed. I would definitely rock this place again. By the way I'm told that Botanas ll has absolutely nothing to do with them but they have the exact same plate on the menu. read more

Went here fo lunch with a group of coworkers. Our group of seven was seated just as soon as they pushed some tables together for us. Chip and salsa were quickly brought out and our drink orders were taken. The chips were fresh, hot, and crispy. The salsa was quite good too. I'd say it was mild but others in the group thought it was medium. I ordered the chunky beef lunch plate. It came with a cup of soup, I chose the enchilada soup. It was creamy/cheesy and topped with tortilla strips. I enjoyed it. The chunky beef was in a nice spicy'ish sauce, and came with rice, beans, lettuce, and pico. For $9, I considered the portion to be generous. I ended up taking half of it in a to go box. Note I did eat almost a half basket of chips and salsa. I love the decor. It's colorful and artistically vibrant. The millennials in our group found the mixes of the women particularly funny. It is tastefully done in my opinion. Service was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. He was able to answer all of our questions about the menu and helped with suggestions of popular dishes.
