Food: They have the usual selection that you find at many Mexican restaurants. We ordered a couple of margaritas, which came in large plastic mugs. They were delicious and refreshing. For food, we started with the guacamole. It was fresh and chunky, just the way we like it. The accompanying salsa, however, was a bit watery. We ordered several different tacos, including the Rib Eye (Taco de Lomo), pork, and chicken. The Rib Eye was the best of the group. It was well grilled, with a nice chew and excellent flavor. The pork and chicken tacos were good as well. The side of rice and beans was typical and not particularly impressive. The portions were generous, and all of the food was served at a good temperature. Service: We were seated right away and promptly received water and had our drink order taken. Our server was helpful and efficient, but not especially friendly. The food arrived after a short wait. We got the usual "How's your meal?" check-in, but there were no additional interactions. There was also no offer for additional chips or salsa. Atmosphere: The dining area is brightly painted and has a festive appearance. The restaurant looked a bit worn, and the floors could have used a little more attention. We stopped here on a Monday night so it was not too busy. We were seated right away and our waitress was very helpful and friendly. We ordered two margaritas: guava and strawberry. Both were yummy. Then we ordered queso for a starter. She asked what kind we wanted and we said regular. She brought out a bowl of melted cheese with a side of beans and tortillas. It was really yummy and everything paired together very well. For our mains, we got the steak chimichanga plate and the combination 5 plate (chimichanga, tostada, and beef taco). It was pretty slow for a Thursday (1st time there so I don't know what business looks like for them) we were only 1 of 3 tables. The waitress came to us right away and took our order. She was very attentive and nice to us! We started with receiving chips and salsa as soon as we sat down but were disappointed because the salsa was really good with a nice kick, however they gave us so little of it. Chips to salsa ratio was not close. For the meal I got the enchilada rancheras meal, no beans, just rice. Good sized meal but I felt there wasn't a lot of sauce and too much cheese. The rice was not good at all, with all due respect it reminded of rice you could warm up from store. 6.6/10 (on all items) for me. I decided to use up another bookmark and stop here for a cocktail and some lunch today while I was out and about. The place has its own parking lot which is nice but you can also street park. The place is split with two small dining rooms and a bar in the back, I ate at the bar this time because I'm kinda getting used to it. The menu has all the usual suspects I noticed so I ordered the #2 combination plate. My lime margarita on the rocks came in a tall frosty glass which I liked. I was instantly greeted and given a menu, salsa and chips while I placed my drink order. The salsa was good that was semi chunky with some heat and the chips were warm and crisp. The #2 combo dinner is pork tamale, cheese enchilada and a ground beef chimichanga with a salad and rice/beans. The beans were very loose and the rice was cooked perfect that I poured the salsa on and mixed it all together that was tasty. The cheese enchilada was covered in a red sauce and cheese which was ok. The pork tamales was also covered in a red sauce which had plenty of pork and not to much masa. The ground beef chimichanga had enough meat and melty cheese in and also good. Overall my food was cooked hot to order and tasty with great service so I have no complaints and enjoyed my lunch. read more

I got carry out from La Salsa tonight and it was absolutely delicious! Or, as the young people say, it was fire. The photo of the meal inside the carry out box and taken in my poorly lit living room can't come close to doing justice to the incredible flavor and comfort of this food. I am going to start coming here more often! Today, I tried a new dish ( to me). I got carne a la Zamora. Holy balls it was sooooo good! Carne asada, beans, banana pepper, onions, guacamole, cheese quesadilla and potatoes in a delish red sauce. And I love onions! This was one of those meals where you get full but it's so good and you know the leftovers won't be as good as the original so you take one more bite and one more bite even though you're full. Hey, I don't always make the best life choices, what can I say?! Customer service here was superb too! I called to place my carry out order and the woman on the phone was happy to take my order even though they were closing in a few minutes. When I arrived to pick up my food, she was just as friendly and kind. So many of us always get the same thing, right?! I love tacos too, I really do! My gf had the torta and the bread kept falling apart and it looked as if the bread wasn't evenly cut. Meat was salty and dry. Went there with a friend on a Friday night at 6p to grab some dinner and drinks. It wasn't busy at all so we were seated right away. The waitress at first was a little pushy wanting to try and take our order every 2-3 minutes. To be honest, the food was bland but still tasty. The chips and salsa in the table were "okay". You can tell the salsa was homemade (which is a plus) but the chips were stale. Our margaritas came in plastic beer glasses which I thought was pretty tacky and to be honest I can make a better one at home in my blender. All together, I wouldn't not go back but it will not be my first choice with the ample amount of Mexican restaurants in Milwaukee. With the influx of "Americanized" Mexican food restaurants that have been popping up in Milwaukee, La Salsa is the opposite of that. It is no frills Mexican. The menu is extensive. It has pretty much every Mexican food dish that I can name. You will almost certainly find something to eat on this menu! The food is solid and is prepared exactly how you would imagine it. There's nothing really surprising that they offer - like I said, no frills. Most things that I have eaten have been good, although the enchiladas are my favorite. For appetizers, I like the loaded nachos and the queso. Both very flavorful and large portions. The chips and salsa are definitely on the above-average end for me. The chips are not greasy and the salsa is perfectly spicy, especially for restaurant salsa (if "mild" is your spice limit, you might want to give this salsa a pass!). My only complaint about La Salsa is that their service is consistently slow. I typically have to ask multiple times if I need something or when I want the bill. Overall, La Salsa is a solid bet for a filling and delicious meal - especially if you need a place that accommodate a large group. read more

We live right across from this restaurant and we LOVE Mexican food; it's truly a wonder why it took us so long to come here. Good atmosphere and the service is very friendly. Sodas come out in a can, which I do not prefer because it means no refills. I thought that my food was pretty delicious. Although I feel like it's pretty hard to mess up Mexican food. The complimentary chips were good, but the salsa was really spicy (no complaints). We got a burrito, tacos and nachos. All of it was really good. The portions are decent as well as the prices. I've ate here a few times now and each time my opinion has gotten worse. At best it's the same as any other Mexican restaurant. At worst is tonight.....a napkin cooked into one enchilada, a mouth full of chicken fat in another, and the third person sick from the chimi. Great local mexican down the street from our house - a selling point when we moved in was just how easy it would be to walk for margaritas in the snow. Drinks: I love their tamarind chili margarita on the rocks, sweet with a subtle kick. My wife loves their house margarita. Food: I'm a fan of lengua (tongue), so I often order their lengua plate dinner, which is a hearty helping in verde (green) sauce, rice, beans, tortillas. I've also loved their shrimp stew (so hearty!) and have taken a shine to the burritos suiza for take out days. I often go for a meat, like lengua (small upcharge) or chicken, the wife likes their veggie burrito suiza. Their chips are perfectly crisp and not greasy and their salsa is spicy and flavorful. Four stars for their amazing parrillada! For $15 for one (or $30 for two), you get a heaping plate of rice, beans, guacamole and pico de gallo, corn or flour tortillas, and WITH IT a large table-top grill filled to overflowing with steak, chicken, chorizo, slices of fried potatoes, fried onions, banana peppers and a cheese quesadilla. Meat was tender and flavorful, and all of the accompaniments were great! It's an awesome deal and a great item to order as a group. One star off because their service is typically hit or miss. The last two times I was in, it was a miss, with the waitress bringing waters way too late and then taking her absolute time with the check even though we were clearly finished eating. It's a big place and they seem to sit people in the farthest possible reaches, so that could explain the slowness. Still, it's not a deal breaker and I'll keep coming back. As of last night, La Salsa is my reigning favorite Mexican restaurant in the Bay View(ish) area. The restaurant offers standard Mexican menu items. I had the chicken flautas (which included guacamole + sour cream, good deal) -- perfectly crispy, chicken was tender and flavorful. I also had a bite of a chicken burrito which was tasty (though really, how do you screw up a burrito?). The salsa was fresh and delicious. I drank a Dos Equis but had I known beforehand that La Salsa serves Margaronas (or Coronitas, whatever you prefer to call a Corona dunked in a margarita), it would have been a different story. I dined at La Salsa on a Thursday evening. There were a few people sitting at the bar but we were the only ones in the dining room at the time our arrival. The waitress was very nice and prompt, ensuring our chips and salsa was never empty. Chips tasted fresh and not too salty. The salsa was very good and had a nice kick to it - the kind of kick where you can't tell it's going to get you until you stop eating it. The house margaritas were awesome, with a good amount of tequila, and reasonably priced (I think the large marg was $6-7ish) :) I ordered the Enchiladas de Mole with shredded beef. The mole sauce had good thickness and flavor. However, it was not as spicy as I have had at some other restaurants, which is totally fine with me because I generally don't care for overly spicy foods. My meal came with 3 enchiladas, refried beans, rice, and a side of lettuce and tomato for $8.95. Overall, great service and food for a reasonable price and much more relaxed dining experience than going to a "big name" Mexican restaurant. I also loved the unique painted tables. This is my favorite place to eat in my neighborhood. The staff are incredibly friendly, the food is always excellent, and I love that if I'm in work clothes or dressed up I can just plop down at the bar and feel at home. My favorite thing to order is the quesadilla dinner with either poblano or chicken and poblano (flour tortilla) and a salted rimmed mug with a crisp High Life.
