Their menu has so many delicious and yummy choices it was hard to decide! This is a small place and they were packed on a Saturday afternoon. Service was friendly, and they kept my coffee topped off. They do have highchairs which is nice, but it's hard to maneuver with so many tables in such a small place. I had the chili and a small greek salad both were yummy. The main seasoning of the chili seemed to be coriander which is an interesting choice but it was delicious!! My husband had the special of the day a Spanish scramble that had lots of veggies in it. First time here today. I ordered the egg breakfast with a side of grits. I ended up here because I could not find a local place that served grits. This breakfast was so good. The eggs were the perfect over medium, the home fries had a good seasoned taste, and the bacon was yummy and the perfect texture. The grits were yummy as well. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. Truly a neighborhood joint, where the servers know your name and even your order. It feels like a blast from the past, when things were smaller and personal. It's welcoming. It's warm. And the food is delish. Breads and pastries are all homemade. Get the veggie gruyere sandwich and add a fried egg to it. Yummmm. I'm so grateful this cafe is in my neighborhood and that the people who work here care about it and believe in it with all of their hearts. They've got something special going on here. Being a breakfast freak I usually don't go out for my morning meal. But a couple of buddies and I dropped in on Both Ways café in Columbia city. OK, without a doubt, I had the best breakfast burrito I have ever had. From the flower tortilla, to the eggs potatoes 'n cilantro with salsa it was really good. I actually really like the place but unfortunately have to give them 3 stars because the service is really hit or miss. If the owner Sam is there it's great. She always treats everyone great and makes sure the experience is top notch. Unfortunately if she isn't there it's like night and day. I have gotten to the point where I just turn around and go somewhere else if I don't see her in there. Just incredible, love this place! Wonderful neighborhood spot that always smells amazing and has great pastries in the window. Ordered the fried egg sandwich for my mom, Northwest scramble for my brother, and tofu scramble for me. My brother's NW scramble was great, very fluffy, and his wheat toast was just beautiful, golden, and crunchy. Had the tofu scramble twice now and highly recommend. Hands down, the BEST baked items especially their biscuits. I know thats saying a lot because there's many people who are known for their biscuits but I'd say they're even better than Fisher Scones. They should add a sliced strawberries and whipped cream to make a ongoing Strawberry Shortcake. The breakfast is equally good. I mainly order the Salmon with goat cheese and mushrooms but other people I've been with say its excellent. Both ways? No way. Simple order 11am on a Wednesday morning. Scrambled eggs turned into over easy. White French toast turns into honey wheat. No complaints from us though. Biscuit? Nowhere to be found. Asked about it and received a generalized, apathetic response from the perhaps past prime staff. Never arrived. Eating our food, we watched another customer wait 10minutes for a check. Biscuit must be baking in the oven. Meals are done, I gave up and decided to pay at the counter. See another table receive several biscuits. "Could I have that biscuit now or...?" "Yeah, here." Received cold biscuit in a bag. Sorry folks, the food is fine but covering a dozen tables is perhaps not the strong point of this establishment. read more

I ordered the ham Sandwich and it was burnt and the ham was chewy and stretchy, way too much onions, the waiters sucked and we asked what type of sodas there was and the dude said shi i don't know and walked away. I also couldn't order breakfast which goes against them saying "we serve breakfast all day" the price was also way too expensive for bad food. read more

I really really like Both Ways. Not sure what the name means; I was meaning to ask them. I mean, what could it mean? Both Ways... ...to have your eggs? ...looking to cross the street? I could go on but I think that this would get inappropriate pretty quick. This has now become my "date brunch" with Mr. L. He tried it for the first time this week and was happy with how much flavor is crammed into their breakfast potatoes! The menu is small (like the restaurant) but simple. Alert: they're friendly, I repeat, friendly to substitutions. Grits are a great example (two brown sugars and one pat of BUTTAH.) No bennies here waaaah but the salmon scramble has become my go-to. On the last day I was in, the owner came by and gave us the name of the person that they would [soon] be singing Happy Birthday to. You can imagine his shock when we all sang in unison: "...Happy Biiiirrrthdaaaay, dear MIIIIKKKEE..." Awesome. Just awesome. read more

Not quite in the questionable stretch of Rainier Ave and a couple of blocks from the lair of the lake people. You can find street parking close by pretty easily. Typical cafe environs in there: wood floors, a small collection of odd wooden tables and a glass display case in the back by the register where they sell house baked goods such as scones, rolls, pastries etc. It's cozy and you'll definitely get to see what your neighbors ordered but focus on your own and you should be good. Or you can gamble on the weather and eat at one of the several picnic tables outside which would better suit a large group. We ordered the daily special which was a Canadian bacon, mushroom and leek scramble and a spinach havarti scramble both with home fries and a biscuit. The service is a little spotty. While they seated us right away and took our order quickly considering we told them we needed more time, the first cups of coffee stayed half full or less for a while. Then they noticed us and we couldn't keep the cup below full. Longer wait then typical for your entree, too. Very tasty eggs, but the home fries were just so so and the biscuit was too sweet for my taste (you'll be disappointed if you've tasted one from Morsel in the U-District). Average prices for the times. Still, the chill vibe and tasty eggs wins a star above A-OK. read more

My boyfriend was keen on taking us to this cafe because last time he was here he really enjoyed the food. However today was just a bizarre experience and judging on a few recent reviews, I suspect that lately this restaurant has been in a bad funk! First off it took forever for someone to give us menus. Then it took forever for someone to take our order. Then it took about 45 minutes for the food to come out. There was literally no explanation from the people. I don't know if they were just short staffed today or what. I even saw a table just walk out because it took so long to get food. The french toast I had was OK. I am inclined to agree with another reviewer that there was not much egg. The bacon was a bit overdone although was glad to see many pieces of bacon. They gave you one small piece of cantaloupe, one small piece of honeydew, and one small piece of watermelon which I thought was a bit insulting. Either have a few more pieces than that or none at all. The northwest scramble was tasty, I will admit. Very little service + mediocre food + long wait time = terrible experience. read more

This is an awesome brunch spot, in a lovely neighborhood. The staff at both ways Cafe is friendly and serves up their coffee and pastries with a smile. I ordered the smothered potatoes, such a treat. Homefries covered in cheese, with bits of bacon, topped with sour cream can it get any better? Also, the waitress was too sweet, when I wanted extra foamy cappuccino she made me an extra special mug filled with my cappuccino and it was brimming with foam. Both ways Caffe's environment is exactly what I want from a neighborhood breakfast/brunch spot. It's cozy, not too incredibly busy, the tables don't match, and there's conveniently little free library plopped right outside the front doors. The staff have always been pleasant enough, always being kind when I ask for something a bit high maintenance (BUT NECESSARY)-such as a cup of ice for my scolding hot drip coffee. The food is well prepared, packed with flavor all the way from the potatoes to the gravy. Personally, im a sucker for biscuits and gravy so I haven't honestly explored their menu outside of that- but let me tell ya: they're TOTALLY stealing the show with that dish. read more

I've driven by this place hundres of times but it's aways looked like a bakery cafe from the outside so I've never gone in. Long story short we wanted to go to Silver Fork for breakfast but they were on vacation(that was actually a good thing since my wife's the one who likes that place anyway.I'm not a big fan). So I suggested we check out Both Ways to see what they might have. Inside it's a funky little place with mismatched wooden tables, event posters and delicious smells wafting from the bakery. We got a table right away and the server brought us coffee almost as quickly(big points for that!) We had a side of biscuit gravy, the tofu scramble and the home fries melt. All of them were piping hot and delicious. I used to go to a funky little place in California called Easy Street. It was a tiny place with very friendly staff and lots of unusual but tasty dishes. I've been looking for a place like that in Seattle for years; I think Both Ways might be it! read more

Came here for breakfast and loved everything! Good service, reasonable prices. We tried: Frittata special with bacon, potatoes and some veggies. Delectable! Salmon scramble was really delicious as well. I couldn't decide which entree I liked better so was glad my husband and I were able to share the two. We chose biscuits as our side and it was the right decision. With the butter and freezer jam it was awesome. Potatoes came with egg dishes and those were yummy as well. Glad we discovered this place. This was a very good breakfast place. Their biscuit is amAzing!!!! It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And all the dish we had was delicious. The portions was pretty generous and you can tell the food is of high quality. And the service was good as well, the waitress keeps coming over to make sure we are good and water/coffee was constantly refilled so we never had to ask. The only thing that I have to criticize on is the size of the restaurant. It's pretty cramped and we had to sit crunched up with another group so it kind of ruin the atmosphere. Short version: Best biscuits. Long version: I've been a regular -- that is, 3-4 times per month -- for a couple years (I live nearby). I love the down-home, laid back vibe, and the food, while not excellent, is pretty good. It's all prepped in-house. I've never had bad service. Slow service, sure -- it gets crowded on weekends -- but never bad. The negative reviews might be due to the attitude of the crew -- when it gets super busy, they go the same pace as if it was slow, but they are unfailingly friendly and polite. My secret is that I go when they open. For food I'd recommend anything baked. I usually get whatever the breakfast special is, with a biscuit. This place absolutely kills it on the biscuits. They're best eaten as dessert after breakfast. Mound one up with homemade berry jam, top up your cuppa, and enjoy, and all will be right with your world. read more

Came here for brunch for the first time and i thought it was delicious. It's this nice little place on the corner at sewaed park on Genesee. It's kinda small but there's a couple benches outside to sit as well. I ordered the home made fries with bacon and 2 eggs on top. the menu says 11 but it's actually 12, the girl didn't charge us for a coffee for her mistake. When you think of "fries" you literally think fries, but they're just potaoes on the bottom of the eggs, with pico de gallo, which tasted super fresh! i really liked it, and it's really filling. I would love to come here again! The waiter was kind of awkward, not sure if it was because i was asian and they're used to seeing their usual seward park faces, other than that food was good! read more

We stopped in here after passing it on the way to Seward park. The reviews and easy parking made this an easy choice. The coffee cake and coffee we're good starters. My ham and cheese sandwich was crispy cooked and dripping with cheese so that was a plus. Her biscuits and gravy were a bit overwhelming and needed a bit of spice or flavoring in the biscuits. The gravey tasted like normal pork gravey so it needs some fresh pizzas to set it apart. We asked for water and the server lady brought us one more glass vs filling our glasses and then I stacked our cups in a polite attempt to ask for more. The bill came and we paid but they could put a touch of polish and easily earn 5 stars as they are friendly and have a great feel here. Great ambiance for sure. It's a cute little bustling cafe. As for the food, I thought it was mediocre at best. I didn't want a brunch place too dive-y or bougee. This place was a happy medium for me. I had the Denver omelette which was OK. The roasted potatoes were a different story... they tasted sour, SOUR. I've never had roasted potatoes like that before... almost makes me wonder if they had gone bad? For the amount of seasoning on the potatoes, there wasn't as much flavor as expected. The best part of the lunch were the biscuits. A++ for those! I tried my mom's NW Smoked Salmon omelette and it was... way too fishy. I think they use the packaged Smoked Salmon with extra juices. I love their food and atmosphere! I've come at least 3 times, with my bf, friends, and for my birthday brunch with family. Their biscuits are delicious and their hash-browns. I cant remember what all i've had for breakfast but i was never disappointed. The only bummer is getting a table, but they have reserved a spot for me when i called 20 minutes ahead.
