I'm one of those people that when you receive great service and a wonderful meal, you sing the restaurant's praises. We went back to Bouchon on 8/13/26 and had the most amazing evening. We asked to be sat inside this time and were quickly greeted by Nicholas our waiter. Nicholas was extremely knowledgeable and gracious to our table. He told us about their special for the evening and helped my wife pick out a glass of wine. He was there when you needed him and not hovering over us when he wasn't needed. Just the perfect amount of world class service. We also had the manager check-in on us to see if everything was okay and he was very pleasant to talk to as well. We started off with the escargot which is so amazing every time we order it. For our main entrees my wife ordered the wagyu ribeye, and I ordered the venison loin. Both of these entrees had such amazing flavor. I'm not a truffle oil person and they left that out of the risotto which made this meal amazing to say the least. My eight year old son doesn't eat hardly anything and he was fighting for my wife's wagyu ribeye which was so flavorful. We ended the night with several desserts and a decaf-cappuccino. Everything from start to finish was simply perfect. We thanked the chief and everyone on the way out and chatted with the owner for a few minutes. This place was wonderful and I'm happy to be able to update our last lackluster experience with this updated perfect dining experience. This is an amazing place. I haven't been to place that meets all expectations in a good while. Everything was on point. We had a reservation but arrived earlier , were seated right away , the order taken right away. We ordered crab cakes ( which was from real crab and were amazing and ended up being the highest item on the check lol - $70 ) I ordered rack of lamb and every bite was like heaven. Tender meat , perhaps the freshest meat , excellent dance of flavors. My husband got a venison on a risotto and I took a bite - excellent! Both meat and rice. I finished that with lemon upside down cake Was perfect as well, perfect combination of sweet and sour complemented by ice cream. Made a reservation for dinner to celebrate a birthday/retirement and I'm so glad that I did. This was the perfect dinner for a celebration. It was thoughtful and delicious. My sister and I shared the FOREST MUSHROOM RAGOUT. It was so tasty. A perfect start! The ARUGULA AND SNAP PEA SALAD was bright and delicious. This was my first visit to a French restaurant so I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the BEST French onion soup I've ever had in my life! Highly suggest getting it, the broth was so rich and delicious. We were in Santa Barbara for the Film Festival when we happened upon Bouchon and were able to snag a last minute reservation. Located just off the main downtown street on Victoria St., this French-Cali restaurant feels tucked away with either an indoor seating or cozy outdoor patio option. From start to finish, it's a phenomenal full dining experience. Our waiter passionately walked us each dish, explaining in-depth not only the food preparation process but also when ingredients were locally sourced if applicable. Dining at Bouchon on Bastille Day was an absolute treat! The festive specials, farmers market menu, extensive wine list, and classic offerings made it difficult to choose--but the Steak au Poivre special was an absolute dream. Every element was cooked to perfection: the filet was buttery, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, the green beans were crisp and fresh, and the layered potato was beautifully cheesy with a deliciously crisp top. The service was exceptional from start to finish. The entire team was warm, attentive, and worked together seamlessly. I appreciated the thoughtful wine recommendations, regular check-ins throughout the meal, and the genuine hospitality from everyone--including the manager, who was actively supporting the staff. The atmosphere was calm, elegant, and the Bastille Day decorations added just the right festive touch. My only complaint? I didn't have a big enough appetite to try more of the menu! We did the Foodie Stroll & Dinner experience, which included a trip to the farmers market with the chef, Vick. Vick was a pleasure to spend time with--personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging. We had a great time at the market with him and then enjoyed exploring it on our own afterward. When we arrived at the restaurant, our table was ready and beautifully set with rose petals to mark the occasion. The staff was attentive, helpful, and professional--always aware of when we needed something, but never intrusive. My wife ordered the Salade Lyonnaise, Juniper & Rosemary Venison, and Lemon-Berry Upside Down Cake. I had the Forest Mushroom Ragout, Braised Kurobuta Pork Flank, and finished with the Chocolate Molten Lava Cake. Every bite was excellent. My wife raved about the venison, and my pork flank was incredibly tender in a rich, flavorful sauce--the meat practically fell apart. Portions were generous; we couldn't finish everything, though we tried. Each course was paired with a different wine, and every pairing was spot-on. One especially thoughtful touch was that they presented us with custom 25th anniversary menus that we created with the chef. The menus highlighted our anniversary and listed the exact dishes we ordered--it was a really nice keepsake and made the evening feel even more special. All of this was done during a packed service, with only four people in the kitchen, which made the experience even more impressive. This is an amazing French restaurant! We were on our way to an Asian fusion restaurant, but we could not get in. So we decided to try this restaurant. It turned out to be a good choice. We had a big lunch, so we were not able to eat two entries. We ordered the French onion soup, persimmons salad, and the duck confit. The soup had a nice cheese crust on top. The onions were nice and soft, but not stringy. The soup was mostly onions. It spread great on the table bread, double the pleasure. The persimmons salad had arugula lettuce, pomegranate seeds, nuts, a soft mozzarella cheese, and of course, persimmons. It was light, crunchy, and sweet. No need for a dressing. For the main course, we shared a duck confit over a light vegetable mix of fava beans, sweet potato, and white beans in a soft cream. The duck was tender, crunchy, and flavorful. No gamy flavor, not overwhelmingly salty, or bitter - just right. It's the best dish offered on the menu. They also serve a generous size duck. They also offer a nice choice of wines and liqueur. The staff and service were excellent. They were very attentive, polite, and thoughtful. They split our entree without being asked. They were not at all impolite, recognizing we were going to share the entree. I did leave a larger than normal tip to compensate for what should have been a bigger dinner tab. We stuck conversations with our table neighbors who also raved about the food and service. They were both celebrating birthdays. I would love to give them the 5th star, but I felt the presentation could have been a bit better. But definitely 5 stars for the food and service. As a side note, there was a homeless woman around the corner, and when we approached with our leftover duck, she asked if we would donate our leftovers. Wow! She is a very smart woman and got a very nice takeout of leftovers. We choose Bouchon for my wife's birthday dinner. We have heard about it and been wanting to experience it during our travels to the area. We are from Texas. It did not disappoint. The service was second to none and the staff not only know the menu inside and out they are also well versed in Wine which is refreshing. We were pretty tired and not too hungry after touring wine country most of the day so we ended up sharing. We shared the tuna tartar, the lamb and crème brûlée. The food was definitely worth a Michelin star in my opinion. The restaurant had a great vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a reason Bouchon has been around almost three decades. Absolutely wonderful experience. The last time I had been to Bouchon was over 10 years ago, so I was truly happy to discover this place was still here, and still going strong. If anything, it's gotten better. The service is impeccable - knowledgeable, professional and warm; without any pretense - the ambiance is welcoming, the crowd is diverse and charming, and the food is the best of the best. The prices are also incredibly reasonable for the level of cooking offered here. In my opinion, a 1-Michelin starred level experience. Also, coming from Los Angeles (where I live) where prices for comparable food is usually twice this price, it almost feels like a bargain. What is also fantastic is that neither my husband nor I drink alcohol - and the drinks menu takes that into account. They offer various non-alcoholic creations and wines; we ordered an NA sparking wine, which was fabulous. It had the depth, character and nuance that truly elevated the food it was paired with. Having visited Thomas Keller's Bouchon in Vegas, we were surprised to learn that this Bouchon is not affiliated with that restaurant group. Regardless, this Bouchon provides a very nice dining experience. We had reservations inside at 7:30 on a Saturday night. All tables inside and outside on the patio were filled with contented guests eating and drinking. We were approached by our waiter immediately upon being seated. He brought us iced water while we studied the menu and nibbled on complimentary bread and butter. When my egg allergy prevented us from ordering the Steak Tartare, we ordered the three Diver scallop appetizer (MP, $48 that evening) instead. Our waiter did an excellent job of ensuring that nothing with eggs was served. He put the garlic aioli on the side for boyfriend to enjoy. I was impressed by the creativity and interesting accompaniments of each scallop. A foodie delight. I loved all three of them, and I kinda wished I had ordered this as my entree! It is a hearty appetizer, as our waiter said, and it could be ordered as an entree. Boyfriend had the duck and I had the salmon. Both were very good and filling, with decent portions. Boyfriend found the duck thigh to be a little dry, but it was good otherwise. We ordered a bottle of the Cambria Pinot Noir to have with our dinner. This is an earthy medium-bodied Pinot from central California, priced at $60. We were too full for dessert, but the desserts looked amazing. Approaching 24 hours since I left this restaurant and I am still on a high thinking about the duck that I had at Bouchon. Hands down one of the best ducks I had that I can remember. Juicy, not extra fatty, tasty, delicious! I don't even generally like succotash but it was the perfect compliment to the duck. French four onion soup: also one of the best, if not the best I've had stateside. The Gruyère on top was perfect, the soup was nice and sweet yet savory. Perfect, just perfect for a brisk evening. Brussels sprouts were ok - can't really compete with duck and French onion soup. Waiter was nice, offered to take a photo for us, offered up a taste test of the non alcoholics (like a sommelier but not quite). Food was a bit slow but that tells me they are busy but also freshly made! Profiteroles for dessert were nice and sweet, even too sweet - the pistachio one is by far the best of the three. The outdoor parklet is the move. Heaters were ready when the temperature dropped, and the whole vibe was a lovely setting for a romantic dinner. Service was attentive, knowledgeable, and accommodating. They swapped a side on an entree without blinking. The crème brûlée was our favorite part. A couple of things kept this from five stars: the salmon was cut thick and the middle was undercooked and unseasoned, and the scallops didn't quite justify the price. Also when we were asked if we wanted sparkling or still water, we said still. We *did not* ask for bottled water, so the $19 charge was a nasty surprise. The beautiful music playing with the gorgeous candle lit tables , they were VERY attentive, we felt so special dining here and I can say this is one of the most romantic restaurants we have been to. We loved the chicken dish and the French onion soup was the most delightful with the way they caramelized the onions and the bubbly Gruyère cheese it was a party in our mouths! I ordered the wagyu ribeye and this was honestly one of the best steaks I've had in a restaurant. Ordered medium rare, the steak was extremely tender and cooked perfectly. It is paired well with broccolini and potatoes. My partner ordered the duck breast. We really enjoyed the sliced pieces of duck breast but we thought the duck thigh was not as good - it tasted a little too fatty but I thought it was a nice touch to include it with the breast. We thought we didn't order that much food but when we finished eating, we were soooo full and couldn't find room for dessert. Plus they don't just accept dogs, they welcome them.... water bowl and 4 staff members went out of their way to come over and say hi. I love outside dining and Bouchon feels like you are in a sidewalk cafe in France. The cars are crawling by and you can ask to leave the blinds down or request the sidewalk side. The French onion soup was outstanding and the crab cakes were virtually panko free. I started with a glass of Roederer bubbly followed by Santa Barbara Tatomer Grüner Veltliner.... both exceptional! I'll be honest, I had Bouchon on my bucketlist because I thought it was associated with Thomas Keller's Bouchon, but they are separate entities. By the time I discovered it, my sweet boyfriend had already proactively made reservations to take me here for dinner on our Santa Barbara trip so I went along with it. Nevertheless I think this is still one of the premium options in the area for dinner. When we arrived, we were fortunate to get indoor seating. I recently learned my boyfriend doesn't enjoy the elements associated with outdoor seating. This works for me because they have lilies outside of the restaurant and I'm extremely allergic. They also have a private room for large private parties next to the restaurant, which you'll have to walk over to if you need to use the restroom. The indoor portion of the restaurant was really quaint so kudos to my handsome boyfriend for scoring a reservation. We were seated in a half booth. It was pretty close to the other tables, so you'll probably hear the nearby conversations. Our waiter started out very attentive but service dwindled on the tail end of our visit where he was nowhere to be found and there was no one else we could even flag down for the check. Starting off we decided to share the Escargot 'Vol au Vent' ($22) since it was unique. I have had escargot at other French restaurants and I was surprised at their presentation here. The escargot was already removed from their shells and generously served inside of a tasty puff pastry. The texture of the escargot was perfect. The only thing missing from this for me was a buttery-ness I was expecting from the beurre blanc. Also, Bouchon means "cork" in French and I had a designated driver, so I enjoyed myself a glass of wine. I went with their '17 Timbre Riesling ($14/glass) which comes from Santa Maria Valley. This was part of the selection of local wines, which I wanted to support while we were here. They have the wines separated in 2 different menu books between the local wines and the "outsider" less local options. For our entrees, my boyfriend had the Steak Au Poivre ($48) and I had the Maple-glazed Duck Breast & Confit ($38). I had a bite of his steak and it was decent. The most impressive thing on his plate to me from a technical execution point of view was the perfect potatoes au gratin perfectly rectangle 3d structure. It doesn't last when you need to cut into it. But I can recognize the technical excellence going into making it. My duck was also tasty. I was surprised to see it came with a breast and a leg, a really good hearty portion. I leaned on my boyfriend for help to finish the meal. I enjoyed the butternut squash succotash with fava beans, sweet corn, and braised leeks the meal came with. The edge pieces of the duck were a bit more tough but the center cuts were on point. The demi-glaze on the plate definitely helped the situation but the flavor was really faint. There wasn't too much checking in during the entrée course and then at least 30 minutes of waiting without sufficient water and looking for wait staff to flag down for the bill. Honestly if they were more attentive I probably would have wanted dessert. By the time the waiter got back to us, I just wanted to get out of here. The experience is somewhere between a 4 and a 5, but I am rounding up because my boyfriend and I had a nice time here and I respect the technical elements of their chef's execution. read more
