I made reservations online for a party of 11 on a Friday night. I initially started with party of 6 and had to increase the amount last minute which thankfully they were able to accommodate. When we arrived, our table was already ready and had a nice little sign indicating it was for our party. Dinner was great! We ordered a few wine bottles and they kept our glasses full. I had the Lamb, my wife had their famous duck, both dishes were prepared perfectly. Our waiter was friendly, professional and able to explain and recommend dishes. Each scallop was presented differently including sauces of carrot & red cabbage slaw, black currants, roasted Brussels aioli; Smoked black-eyed peas, chorizo, slow-roasted tomatoes, kale oil; Fennel & apple slaw, butternut squash, leeks & Madeira crème, I really liked he smoked version while my wife preferred the Brussels aioli the best. All three scallops were tender and perfectly cooked. For mains we had their famous maple glazed duck breast and their Snake River Farms American Wagyu center cut ribeye. The duck was amongst the best we have had anywhere- tender and very tasty, The ribeye was extremely tasty but less tender than we expected from Snake River Farms. Not as authentic as one might think. The wagyu was not melt in the mouth tender, however, it was flavorful. Escargot was clean tasting, not as fatty, greasy, or salty as others. If you're a mushroom lover, you'd enjoy the mushroom appetizer. The scallop was not bad, mushy but not sandy or fishy. The duck confit was disintegrating, salty, braised, and not roasted. We were visiting from out of town and saw this market tour on Tuesdays which seemed perfect as some things were closed (pandemic times) early week and Bouchon had great reviews. I thought it might be a little manufactured, but chef was so down to earth and knowledgeable and I feel like I got a good glimpse of how restaurants think about food sourcing and menu design. When we got to the restaurant afterwards the food was wonderful (huge portions) and my only regret was I was too full to add other items. We were seated near the kitchen and service was outstanding. There is also front sidewalk patio seating and a small private room next door. You actually go out and in the private dining room to use the restroom. If you get the chance, definitely take in the market stroll and dinner. It's actually a bargain considering the food and time spent with you. read more

Came here with four of my friends this past Saturday. I was so excited to try it out as my friend was raving about this spot. We started off with a bottle wine- the Tyler. They only have wine and beer- no cocktails. We started off with their trio of scallops as an appetizer. All three scallops are very unique and flavorful. If you like scallops I would definitely try this. They also serve complimentary bread with butter which comes out fresh and hot. For my entree I ordered their roasted jidori free-range chicken which was tender however, I felt as if it could of been more flavorful. My friends really enjoyed the duck-if you like duck I would try their duck! I'm not a huge fan of duck but I did try my friends and it tasted good! For dessert we got the chocolate molten lava cake which was delicious! Must get this if you love a good chocolate molten lava cake. If you're going to come here make reservations ahead of time. The veggie dish specially prepared was spectacular. Nutty and full of flavors. The fish was outstanding with the side veggies providing support letting the fish shine. It was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever had. Lobster pot pie was cooked perfectly with the cream enhancing texture and flavor. While making a reservation via phone, we mentioned we'd like something inside as this is a celebration. They mentioned they will add rose pedals as a nice touch which was so nice! As we arrived we were asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside - (we already discussed on the phone it would be inside? and you offered rose pedals lol).. I ignored and as we sat Mitchell forgets to sends us menus and a server double whammy. We finally get a server. The best part of this was the wine introduction. Started off with a delicious french onion soup - that was excellent. We ordered the rib eye & Duck that took a whopping 53 minutes to arrive but hey, as long it taste good we don't mind...However no one came over during that wait period to see if we'd like more drinks. We were so down for at least 2-3 more pours... The entrees arrived finally, cold at first bite. Both entrees were terribly cold. We waited all the time for this? The manager didnt even have the audacity to apologize in person. We had to leave and eat elsewhere-- We highly suggest checking out The Black Sheep "SB Brasserie" nearby. This place was fantastic and the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary! I made my reservations a couple weeks before my trip here. The reservation process was easy and straightforward. Upon arriving at the restaurant, my wife and I were greeted and they congratulated us on our anniversary. That was very nice of them. They brought us to our table (we requested being seated inside) and they brought over some rose pedals to sprinkle on the table as well as a happy anniversary card from them. Nice little touches to make the experience even better. The inside of the restaurant was very nice! I saw piles and piles of freshly baked baguettes and the kitchen was open enough to see the chefs work. It was definitely a nice environment for a date. The server who came by (I forgot his name) was extremely nice and friendly! He took care of us and explained the menu. He also brought over bread! I could see him walk over to the pile of baguettes and slice off pieces of it to bring to my table. The bread was so good!! You can tell it was fresh because the outside was nice and crispy while the inside was warm and soft. The perfect fresh baguette! Slab a little butter on it and mmmm it was good. So good, that my wife and I got the bread refilled twice. Oops. Carbs overload? Maybe... but worth it! We ordered a French onion soup to share and for our mains, I got the wagyu center-cut ribeye (medium rare) and she got the lamb. At the time that I went (10/22), the ribeye was $45 and the lamb was $40. Pretty decently priced in my opinion. The French onion soup that came out was fantastic! So delicious. It came out piping hot! But the cheese and the onions... YUM! It was the perfect way to start the night. When the entrees came out, the lamb came out perfect. The nice thing about this restaurant is that unlike other expensive steakhouses that only give you a piece of meat and everything else has to be ordered on the side... this place actually includes things alongside the protein. For instance, the lamb came with 3 decent sized pieces of lamb on top of a risotto and mushrooms. It was so delicious. The lamb with the risotto was amazing. My ribeye, on the other hand, came out slightly raw. I know this because I cook steaks and know how to spot a raw piece of meat. I touched the center just to confirm and knew from the moment I touched it, it was still slightly cool to the touch. The server came by pretty quickly and I informed him that it was not cooked well. He apologized and brought it back immediately. A few minutes later, the ribeye was back on the table and was cooked perfectly. A nice medium rare. The ribeye dish also came with some kind of potato mash with bacon and broccolini. It was so delicious! We were stuffed at the end. The bill was not terrible. Of course, it depends on what you order. My wife and I ordered 1 app to share and 2 entrees so it came out to be about $110 before tip. For that price, I think this place is worth it if you're looking to celebrate somewhere nice. One of downtown Santa Barbara's longtime gems - located in a beautiful outdoor shopping mall, to combat the COVID challenge, they have taken up every nook and cranny of the outdoor common space so they actually seem to have more tables available now than in the old world. They make it work - adding italian style lighting above everything and still making it seem somewhat intimate/romantic. The challenge in late November, then, is to keep patrons warm, which they do with a small army of heating lamps which can be fickle to get just right. There are not physical menus - instead, they present you with a QR code to scan and view the menu on the phone. Cute tech feature, but really, why not just present a real menu, large font to boot, and politely say 'don't touch'. And what if you didn't have a phone? Well, on to the meal... Bread - warm and slightly tasted, butter needs himalayan or kosher salt on top, otherwise above average - just enough to whet the palate. Silverware - Laguioule - some place settings had regular butter knives, others did not. Be consistent. During my steak entree, my fork started bending. I know I've been working out, but c'mon, I guess even Laguioule has a shelf life. *French Onion Soup - Looked and smelled great, but then the bottom of the baguette slice was so saturated it lost any semblance of structure and turned into an awful milky paste. Not sure if they forgot to toast it long enough or didn't cut the slice thick enough or didn't use day old bread, but it definitely was not supposed to fall apart like that. Bad. *Broccolini - pretty big stalks to cut, and a bit underdone, otherwise, it was okay. Love to have broccolini with red meat. *Wagyu Ribeye - They cooked it medium rare to order, sure, but for some reason, they sliced it horizontally to reveal a big patch of deep red flesh. I don't mind the bloodiness of the steak, but it just made it hard to cut. For the life of me, I don't understand why they presented it that way. Do I cut bite sized chunks for the top piece then the bottom, or should I cut both at the same time, in which case, why cut it horizontally in the first place. The flavor and texture was sirloin-quality and just didn't carry the same fatty flavors as a traditional bone-in ribeye. Disappointed. *Lemon-Berry Upside Down Cake - really gorgeous presentation, and the warm cake was wonderful. Nice orange peel sub-flavor, and topped with a well-frozen vanilla ice cream scoop. Was very full after this. *'18 Au Bon Climat Chardonnay - to pair with the French Onion soup - didn't have the oaky buttery power structure I was looking for, but instead had the high acid minerality of a pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc. Probably needs to age a lot longer *'16 Grimm's Bluff Cabernet - like the majority of non-pinot reds in the Santa Barbara County, this is a hedonistic, plummy fruit bomb, with minor cassis notes, but resembling a Zinfandel more than a Cab. Since the ribeye registered lower on the flavor scale, it was overwhelmed by the wine. We got a private room in their wine cellar for a bachelor party. It was great. You can connect your phone and play your own music. The service was excellent. Bouchon (no relation to the one in Nor Cal) was a solid place for a nice dinner out - aside from a couple of hiccups, this would have easily been a 5-star overall experience. We had a reservation in place and were promptly seated at one of their outdoor dining tables. They had barricaded the outdoor dining area off from the pedestrians on the closed street and set up much needed heat lamps to ensure a pleasant temperature. Their wine list was extensive being in Santa Barbara, esp their selection of local pinot noirs, as that is what they are best known to grow. After awhile, we settled on a bottle and was equally torn at looking at the entre menu and wanting everything listed. We decided to order the trio of scallops as a shareable appetizer, then the duck confit, the wagyu ribeye, and side of broccolini. The trio of scallops was fun to eat, and each one was seared perfectly. The favorite one was the one wrapped in prosciutto with a tomatoey sauce. The duck confit and broccolini came next. The duck was beautifully cooked almost a hoisin like sauce to it. The broccolini felt a little soft, like it was boiled a bit too long, but the garlic flavor came out nicely. After that it appeared that they forgot to write down the wagyu ribeye! But we had nothing else planned and so were willing to wait. In the meantime, it was fun to people watch since the street is closed off and there were plenty of pedestrians and continue to enjoy the wine. Once the ribeye came, the crust on the steak was really thick but the inside was nicely medium rare. I think the poor cutting knife and the thick crust ruined the experience a little because I love being to easily slice through as an indication of how tender it is, rather than more on the chewy side. This dish also came with some broccolini, which was cooked differently than their side dish order - it was charred and more peppery, which tasted better than their side dish. The sweet potato and potato on the dish were a bit of a let down, as they were unevenly cooked and left about a quarter of the potatoes raw and rock hard. Part of it though, I think was the kitchen staff hurrying to get this dish out because it was missed in the order. All in all, I think this was an overall terrific meal and would recommend it. read more

I have to begin with the front of the house. Eric was the nicest, most accommodating front of the house person I have ever come across. I wish I lived closer because I would love to come back again and again just to interact with him. We came to Bouchon because we assumed it was part of the Thomas Keller namesake but alas Eric informed us that it was actually around before Keller opened his Bouchon. We were sad to hear it but still open to try it. In the end we forgot who Thomas Keller was! Eric was the best front of the house and that would have been enough but our waiter Dorian was every bit as great. Dorian knew the menu, the wines and was a great person to just chat with. We ordered a wine on the suggestion of Dorian and it was perfect to match our meals. We began with the trio of scallops. This was amazing. A scallop carpaccio, a seared scallop with fave beans and mushrooms and lastly a scallop with a risotto. These three were about as good as you can dream of. Next we had the pork belly appetizer. This was a crispy, tender pork belly prepared like a beef short rib. It was amazing. For our main course we got the duck. Being honest here my first duck was inedible but I blame the duck not the chef. Anyway Dorian didn't question it and he brought another which was amazing. Crispy skin and extremely tender meat. I can't wait to visit again. Hopefully soon but I couldn't imagine a trip to Santa Barbara without a stop here. read more

Went here for our 15 year wedding anniversary. I was told that this is one of the original ones in California and dining hair completed our Busan trifecta experience so I was really excited. Upon being seated there was a card that was handed to us that greeted us a happy anniversary, it was a nice touch. The order to French onion soup each to start and that was really disappointing. And yes that pains me to say that because I really love bouchon. Next we had the scallops sampler and that was to die for. Definitely worth ordering. I had The lobster pot pie which I was so full from the appetizers that I ended up not finishing but it was delicious. And my husband had the red meat (can't remember what it was see pic) and he was pleased and was raving about how it wa La perfectly cooked. Anyway I'm a bit disappointed because I made reservations I had a time and usually for price point and being the fact that it's a fancy restaurant you tend to celebrate big mile stone things like hence your 15th anniversary. Reservation via open table was harder to get few days before the weekend but we lucked out and saw a last minute cancellation while checking for reservation an hour before dinner. Despite last minute reservation, my comment to request for a high chair was noted and our table was set up by the time we got there. Service was friendly, prompt and thoughtful. My favorite of the night was the duck breast which was super tender and moist. We ordered one entree of the duck and wanted to share so they were thoughtful to split into two plates. Even after splitting the entree, the potion size appears to be big. I also enjoyed the scallop trio and creme brûlée. I called today because my dad was celebrating his birthday there and I wanted to surprise him with something at his table. I've done this for a few birthdays and restaurants usually respond to this request with kind of a meh response because obviously I'm not going to be there and it's a hassle. This was the best service I've ever received, ever. Maybe the best of any kind of service ever. I don't know if I talked to the owner or the manager or just a very inspired front of house staff, but it he shared with me that I could buy a gift card, which would be delivered to the table with my message on it, and my parents could choose what they wanted. I was a little incredulous so I even called back to make sure this could happen tonight, he confirmed he had already received it and would make them feel welcome. Just got the report from my newly 81 (!) year old father that "what did you do they made us feel like family." Nothing makes me happier, being a daughter far away, than making him happy, and Bouchon made it happen with very little effort on my part. Good service is everything, this was great service.
