If you are an awards member, they give you a free 1 lb loaf (round or long) each month with a purchase. I usually pair little gem cobb with the French dip. Luckily the baguette is good because it is a bit skippy on toppings. A good baguette dipped in au jus with a nice cobb is delightful. Cobb is generously topped and lots of chicken. Bakery review only. On the hunt for a lemon poppyseed muffin today, and this was the only spot I could find that had a traditional, fully glutinous version on its delivery menu. I can't resist a white chocolate macadamia cookie, so selected that as well to round out the order. Unfortunately, a blueberry muffin appeared in place of the lemon poppyseed. The Boudin folks clearly tried to make amends by adding a slice of marble pound cake, which was a nice gesture. The blueberry muffin was a bit dry and not too flavorful. And the cookie was drier still, with very uneven distribution of the white chocolate component. It's been too long since I flexed my southern baking skills, so guess it's time to get some lemons, get in the kitchen and whip up a batch of muffins myself. read more

After moving from Silicon Valley to San Diego, We're was so happy to find a Boudin nearby again. We ordered two bread bowl soups and sandwiches to go... Boudin has really stepped up their game in recent months. They've always been good, but I feel like their quality and variety have improved. I particularly like the choose two with a soup - usually clam chowder + $1 extra for a bread bowl and the Cobb salad. I hardly ever order salad as a meal, but this is one of the best Cobb salads. No skimping on toppings and even for a half order, you get a sizable portion. Always clean, always welcoming. Boudin's is known for their bread, especially sourdough. They are a chain bakery-restaurant and have been around for a while. Both the wifey and I love sourdough. Their sandwiches, salads, and soups are always so good and fresh. Most recently, I tried their Thanksgiving Turkey Melt which is seasonal. It's a hot sandwich that is made with turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, cranberry Dijon, on a rustic stuffing bread. I was blown away by how good it was. It was hot, crisp, turkey was moist, and bacon was thick (and they didn't skimp on it). It was a nice mixture of savory and sweet... the cranberry Dijon was delicious! I just wish the sandwich wasn't seasonal... it should be on their permanent menu. One of my favorite things to order here is the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. It is especially good on cold days. Another favorite here is "The Great" (their signature grilled cheese) with Bacon. It lives up to it's name! It has plenty of thick Applewood smoked bacon. They use Havarti & sharp cheddar cheese that is melted perfectly on Parmesan crusted sourdough! Nice toasted crunchiness with delicious melted cheese and crisp bacon which each bite. Yum! Boudin's is easy to find. On the corner of Balboa Ave and Genesee in the same shopping center as Vons, CVS, Kohl's, and 85 Degrees Bakery. There is plenty of parking. This Boudin's is consistently clean. They bus the tables here, so they always wipe down the tables and seats. Service has also been consistently good here. Came in with high expectations, but this location really missed the mark. Tried the chicken Caesar, short rib sandwich, and clam chowder. The chicken Caesar had barely any dressing and wasn't even properly tossed, so it was pretty dry. The short rib sandwich was also disappointing. It was way too dry and didn't have nearly enough short rib. The clam chowder was actually the best of the three, but that's not saying much. It was super thick and pretty flavorless. Only real highlight was the bread. It's genuinely good, and I'll give them that. If I come back, it would be strictly for the bread because everything else was thoroughly disappointing. Fashion Valley Boudin location closed and I wasn't impressed with the food they had since it wasn't close to the San Francisco restaurant. So I haven't tried Boudin for years for fear of being disappointed. The Claremont location however did not disappoint me. They have good sandwiches and seems to have the best calm chowder in San Diego. The calm chunks are small - perfect since I don't like biting into a large chewy calms. Also it doesn't have that overly fishy flavor. The sourdough bread is also great here. Other places seem to have hard as a rock outer shell of the sourdough bread. Pretty disappointing for a Boudin. Food took FOREVER, I think they just decided to forget about our order. When they finally delivered our food, I asked what took so long (30 minutes), and the guy said, "I guess the kitchen didn't feel like cooking it." Also, the bathrooms are disgusting. I don't know how their bathrooms pass with the food safety inspectors, there is ground in time and what look like rodent droppings in the corner of the men's room. The half sandwich was really a full sandwich, the clam chowder was hearty and filling, the sourdough bowl was so delicious! They know sourdough. It's the average fast service restaurant dining experience. It wasn't busy but I understand it can be during lunch and dinner rush. The supervisor, Ashley, is a personable professional and excellent with customer service. She made me feel comfortable and welcome and I like Boudin more just based on my interaction with her. Boudin far exceeded my expectations in both quality of food and excellent customer service for a chain eatery. I've been here a few times and the staff are kind and friendly. Patrick in particular took his time to explain items on the menu to me. I assume they're using palm oil because I cannot tolerate it. I felt miserable all night. I saved the banana bread for breakfast, went online to see if it contains palm oil, can't get a definitive answer, pull it out of the bag and they gave me the butt end of it. No one wants that. I love coming to this Boudin for all my bread-related needs. I've only tried the tomato soup on the actual menu, but everything always looks enticing. My main reason for this review, though, is to mention the exceptional service I received today: Wednesday, May 14th (6 PM-ish). Rosie and Vincent were working upfront, and what a great team they were. I was immediately greeted upon arrival, with Rosie eagerly awaiting to take my order. The store was nearly out of bread, but that proved to be okay because Rosie accommodated, using my rewards points to get the best deal for me. Whilst she was handled my order, Vincent swooped in (without being asked), and sliced my bread. She even offered butter, which in all my visits, I can't recall being ever offered (it's possible, but I don't remember). The entire transaction/interaction was friendly and efficient, as good customer service should be. Unfortunately, it's such a rarity these days, so I wanted to be sure that I acknowledged these two by name.
