Rather dry interior of the blueberry muffin
    Wendy G.

Bakery review only. On the hunt for a lemon poppyseed muffin today, and this was the only spot I could find that had a traditional, fully glutinous version on its delivery menu. I can't resist a white chocolate macadamia cookie, so selected that as well to round out the order. Unfortunately, a blueberry muffin appeared in place of the lemon poppyseed. The Boudin folks clearly tried to make amends by adding a slice of marble pound cake, which was a nice gesture. The blueberry muffin was a bit dry and not too flavorful. And the cookie was drier still, with very uneven distribution of the white chocolate component. It's been too long since I flexed my southern baking skills, so guess it's time to get some lemons, get in the kitchen and whip up a batch of muffins myself.

I was craving clam chowder and some delicious sandwiches on a weeknight. Ordered a bread bowl to go along with a BLAT sandwich and fig, brie, apple sandwich. The clam chowder hit the spot, this is such a nostalgic place for me! The BLAT was similarly fresh, crispy, and flavorful. The fig sandwich was a nice "dessert" for me with the perfect mix of sweetness and savory. Also ordered a sourdough loaf to go. Love that they slice it for you!

I was craving a nice bowl of clam chowder and salad. More specifically I was craving Boudin's Asian Chicken salad. I wanted a salad so I ordered a salad. But my buddy wanted a melt, but they were out of all the ingredients. Literally all the ingredients for a short rib melt. How does that even happen? He ended up with a salad, like me... Other places this place fell short. Soda station was out of carbonation. Utensil and condiment station was not stocked. And we got metal knives with plastic spoons and forks for dine-in. This place reminds me of a store selling out of everything like they're on a close-out clearance. The food also didn't sit well with... I've been to a few Boudin here and up in the SF area. This shop ranks the lowest amongst all the Boudin shop I've been to.

Outstanding sourdough! We were so happy with the food. The inside was pretty nice as well and staff were friendly. I'm looking forward to returning. Pros: * Outstanding food; recommend the Pick a pair with clam Chowder. If you have the room, go for the sourdough bread bowl. * Clean inside * Friend service Cons: * N/A Extra: * Plenty of parking * Serve Coke products * Download the app for rewards

Boudin's is known for their bread, especially sourdough. They are a chain bakery-restaurant and have been around for a while. Both the wifey and I love sourdough. Their sandwiches, salads, and soups are always so good and fresh. Most recently, I tried their Thanksgiving Turkey Melt which is seasonal. It's a hot sandwich that is made with turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, cranberry Dijon, on a rustic stuffing bread. I was blown away by how good it was. It was hot, crisp, turkey was moist, and bacon was thick (and they didn't skimp on it). It was a nice mixture of savory and sweet... the cranberry Dijon was delicious! I just wish the sandwich wasn't seasonal... it should be on their permanent menu. One of my favorite things to order here is the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. It is especially good on cold days. Another favorite here is "The Great" (their signature grilled cheese) with Bacon. It lives up to it's name! It has plenty of thick Applewood smoked bacon. They use Havarti & sharp cheddar cheese that is melted perfectly on Parmesan crusted sourdough! Nice toasted crunchiness with delicious melted cheese and crisp bacon which each bite. Yum! Boudin's is easy to find. On the corner of Balboa Ave and Genesee in the same shopping center as Vons, CVS, Kohl's, and 85 Degrees Bakery. There is plenty of parking. This Boudin's is consistently clean. They bus the tables here, so they always wipe down the tables and seats. Service has also been consistently good here. They are friendly and answer questions about anything on the menu. I forgot how good Boudin's can be! We are fans! 4 / 5: Food 4 / 5: Cleanliness 4 / 5: Service 4 / 5: Overall

Good spot for a quick meal and super convenient in the same lot if you're using the Supercharger. Order at the kiosk and grab a number by it or you can wait to order with a staff. Plenty of seating some booth seating available too. Recommend the clam chowder and beef chili in sourdough bread bowl.

Food: pick 2 (tuna salad sandwich with Asian salad, no chicken), pick 2 (tuna salad sandwich with tomato bisque soup), French dip sandwich. Everything was delicious. We also bought a sourdough loaf to go (they will slice it for you.) Service: fast and friendly. We love coming here when in town. I wish there was a location in Henderson NV!

Great value! You get two sandwiches and two cookies and two soups and two bread bowls for $30. You got fresh bread and everything tastes wonderful!

Fashion Valley Boudin location closed and I wasn't impressed with the food they had since it wasn't close to the San Francisco restaurant. So I haven't tried Boudin for years for fear of being disappointed. The Claremont location however did not disappoint me. They have good sandwiches and seems to have the best calm chowder in San Diego. The calm chunks are small - perfect since I don't like biting into a large chewy calms. Also it doesn't have that overly fishy flavor. The sourdough bread is also great here. Other places seem to have hard as a rock outer shell of the sourdough bread. Glad that we have a Boudin still around in San Diego.

Avian is a unique spot tucked inside a shopping plaza with super easy parking. They even display how much people have won in store! For drinks, we got 2 Vietnamese coffees and a sugar cane drink. The coffees were strong, bold, and exactly you would expect. The sugar cane drink was super fresh and refreshing, especially for a hot pool day. Now the bánh mìs... SO good. I think it's a nice touch that they ask if you want jalapeños or not because they know it's spicy. It looks like they scoop out some of the bread and then load it up with the fillings. I ordered six sandwiches ,three special bánh mì, two grilled pork bánh mì, and one meatball bánh mì, so it took a little while for everything to be prepared. The shop itself is small but clean and well organized. Overall, it's a great spot for a tasty and satisfying bánh mì.

That's not to say it's bad, I think all sandwiches places should be as good as this was, but it just wasn't special enough to get four stars in my opinion. You have all the staples and classic. Your roast beef's. Your turkeys. Your ham. They also serve breakfast sandwiches which looked super good. There's also a handful for interesting combos which caught my eye. I went with the Pho'wich which has slow cooked roast beef, fresh basil, tomato, onion, cucumbers, house pickled jalapeño, hoisin mayo, on a buttered garlic roll. I cut it in half, added some chips and a pickle. It came out to just about 20 bucks. I was one of three people in there on a Sunday around 1pm and from order to my mouth was no more than 7 minutes. The jalapeño wasn't spicy nor didn't taste very pickled. The hoisin sauce i thought would smack, but sadly it didn't. I love hoisin but thought it made the sub subpar. It fell a little flat from my expectations but the roast beef was tender and the bread was garlicky which added depth to it. I would come back to try the others but I don't think I'll come back anytime soon. The inside was cute and fun stuff on the walls that captured my attention. Service was nice. On the first visit, Zack provided exceptional care and attention while helping navigate food allergies. Zack took the time to carefully check ingredients, double-check preparations, and personally come back out to verify everything to ensure safety. Juicy chicken, ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and a bright splash of oil and vinegar came together beautifully on Big Front Door's roll, which had a great texture and held everything together well. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.
