Heard a lot about this place so decided to try it. We tried the Rich Boy and the Super Mario. We got half sandwiches but be aware that the portion sizes are huge! Half a sandwich will absolutely fill you. The rich boy had spicy chicken and the super Mario had bell pepper spread which made it sweet. We both got the Dutch crunch bread. It was okay. Curious to try the other breads. Each sandwich came with a mini cookie - delightful!!! All in all solid sandwiches but not the best ones I've had in San Diego. Service was fast and friendly! There is barstool seating outside and to the left of the restaurant is an indoor dining area. Parking is paid street. I really was looking for something to hit the spot today. I started the day with my homemade smoothie which was perfect. Then, as the day progressed I wanted to have a good lunch so I would not be that hungry for dinner and just lightly snack. So, I was craving a deli sandwich. I decided to try Rubicon Deli in Mission Hills area. I kept hearing how their sandwiches were so good. I ordered a tuna sandwich, and the girl behind. the counter was helpful and friendly, but did inform me they were out of a few bread types. I order a Dutch crunch type of bread for a tuna sandwich. They serve half and whole sandwiches so I just ordered a half which was still a good-sized portion . I wish I would have liked this sandwich because I drove 20 minutes to try this place. The bread was too dry and super messy because it was so dry. The rest of the sandwich was okay. The tuna was bland tasting as it did not seem like it was seasoned. The veggies on it were the only thing that made the sandwich decent tasting. It was nothing to write home about or drive out of my area to try it . I was hungry and paid so I had to eat it. Although, I threw away the other half of it . It was not horrible, but it was not tasty either. The service was good and they had plenty of tables to sit down inside. But, I also noticed the tables were not being wiped down and under the tables there were food crumbs all over. Luckily, I had my trusty sanitizer for the table. The fact no one was cleaning as it needed to be done was a turn off. Restaurants and places of businesses need to take it serious and keep it clean everywhere so no one gets sick. Heard about this place on Reddit while looking up for a deli sandwich. Parking was a bit tough around 7PM on a Friday, but my wife and I were able to find some across the street. It's nice and air conditioned inside and no one was here, so service was fast. We ordered the rich boy and the stallion, both with Dutch crunch bread since that's the most popular one on Yelp (also because they were out of garlic cheese). The dining room was empty and we got our order about 15 mins after we ordered. It's kinda hard to hear your name being called from the dining room, so be mindful of that. I accidentally grabbed the wrong order from the same woman who took my order, so we were both at fault there. We got whole sandwiches with the intention of eating one half there and saving the rest for home. The sandwiches themselves were HUGE. You definitely get what you pay for. Both sandwiches were amazing. I'm a big guy but had trouble finishing just half of the sandwich. I'd definitely come back and try other stuff. read more

I gave some to friends, I gave some to those experiencing homeless, and I ate wayyyy too many myself! Second time I came here was on a Saturday around 1pm and it was packedddd. They were firing sandwiches out left and right. I was between a few options but eventually went with the "Giddy Up" which consisted of Prime roast beef, Swiss, roasted red pepper tapenade, caramelized onion, wild arugula, and creamy horseradish. They also have salads, acai bowls, and cookies. Most half sandwiches are around 13 dollars and full size are $20. I was disappointed with my experience. I ordered the jalapeño bread, but my order came with Dutch bread instead. I called to politely let them know, and I was told that when they run out of jalapeño bread, they substitute it with Dutch bread. The issue is that I wasn't asked if that substitution was okay. I'm allergic to Dutch bread, so it's not something I can simply eat instead. To make it even more confusing, my friend ordered the same jalapeño bread and received the correct bread, so I'm not sure why only mine was substituted. I understand that items can run out, but customers should be informed before a substitution is made, especially when it involves food that could affect someone with allergies. Lines might be long at times but they move fast. I suggest bring your own drinks because their fountain drink options are just ok, plus you'll save money.
