The reason why I suspect this is because approximately 20 minutes after eating the Chilli, I began to experience the most intense stomach cramps imaginable. As I was driving down a busy road, I was scouting out possible locations to release the contents of my colon. As I waddled across the parking lot of a strip mall, clenching my butt cheeks together in order to prevent an accident of epic proportions, I was glared at with intense curiosity by a group of inquisitive old ladies. I put my head down and focused on making it to the lavatory successfully... Ultimately, I was charged nearly $25 for a sandwich, a cup of chili, & a bag of chips (no drink). I have not been to a Firehouse sub in YEARS until a recent promotional discount pulled me in. Plus, this location is super conveniently located in a Kearny Mesa strip mall. Plenty of parking. This location is making a solid effort to follow COVID guidelines as shown in the pictures (the employee will serve you chips and a drink. Customers are also abiding by social distancing while waiting in line. Our cashier was exceptionally friendly and patient. We ordered two sandwiches: Sweet and spicy meatball on wheat: simple and hearty. Flavorful, solid sized meatballs with a distinct Italian seasoning taste paired with melted provolone, marinara sauce (the sweet part), and hot sauce + red pepper flakes (the spicy part). Came out as one might imagine and was indeed yummy. Firehouse Hero on wheat: roast beef, turkey, ham, provolone, and served Fully Involved (mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle on the side). Also came out great. Tasty combination of flavors. No complaints. Both subs were delicious. I'm also just a general fan of sandwiches - have been taking it easy on Gluten and carbs so any opportunity for warm, spongy bread combined with tasty proteins + toppings is indeed a treat. I have a weakness for bbq.  Something about the smoky aroma that teases you before you even look at the menu.  That aroma promises meat that has absorbed the smoke and adds delicious flavor to otherwise plain meat.  I was excited to see smoked beef brisket on the menu at Firehouse Subs. I ordered the Smokehouse beef sub with bacon, lettuce, and tomato.  The sign said the beef was smoked for 16 hours.  I believe it as there was a delicious hickory smoked flavor to the beef.  Bacon had a delicious savory flavor with a hint of sweetness.  White bread roll was fresh and had a mild flavor.  This is the best beef brisket sub I've had. Staff was nice and showed me how the beef brisket arrived.  A supplier smokes it and then ships it to Firehouse Subs.  I've visited a few firehouses.  They have some of the coolest items here.  The main thing missing is the cool pole you slide down to get to your fire truck quickly. I visited again to try a $4.99 sub.  Roast beef with lettuce and tomato.  The bread, lettuce, and tomato were very good just like last time.  The roast beef was coated in melted cheese.  It took a few minutes to remove it.  Roast beef was light in flavor and the beef to everything else ratio wasn't that high so the sandwich tasted mostly of bread and lettuce.   3rd visit I ordered the Smokehouse beef sub with bacon, lettuce, and tomato again.  I think I need a sign stating I don't want cheese on my sub.  I tried removing it.  The bun was a lost cause as it was melted in.  I tossed it.  It was hard work scraping the cheese off the beef.  I didn't get it all off.  Sub didn't taste that great with the hated cheese flavor and aroma permeating throughout.   I love the Smokehouse beef sub without cheese.  They keep trying to make me eat cheese though.  I don't trust them with takeout.  Now that I can't eat on premise I'd only come here if I was planning on eating in my car as I'd go back inside and ask for a replacement sub with no cheese if they sneak more cheese in. read more

Any place I can drive to, order, and get my food in my 30 minute lunch break is a huge win in my book! A chain with a few locations around town. Several custom house signature sandwiches that appeal to most tastes. You can add or remove items too, of course. I've tried a couple and they didn't disappoint at all. They weren't heavily loaded with meat but still very adequate. I tried the Engineer-turkey/swiss very good taste with the mushrooms in there. The other was the Italian and is probably the most meat-loaded option that was balanced very well with more intense, saltier cuts. I'll definitely go back when convenient. Oh, and they offer a free birthday sub each year and don't bombard you with 1000 emails when you sign up with the club.
