Ok. Didn't know what to expect because this place looked pretty wild from the outside but also very chill like a yoga studio. I got a concoction of vanilla almond herbal rooibos tea at the recommendation of the waitress. It calmed me instantly and I relaxed in the luscious Boulder sun on the first day of Spring. A review could be written on the structure alone, which would rave about the handcrafted pillars and painted ceiling. This place is so unique and in its own class that is has to be top rated because it really has no competition. Aside from that, the food is actually GOOD. Peanut noodles are spicy and plentiful, and the food is as authentic as the structure. The only reason I cannot give this place five stars is because when it's hot outside, it is DOUBLY hot inside! There is no reason they can't install a good A/C system and that really kills some of my enjoyment of this place. Hot tea, hot food, and hot space..yech! My wife was served a burnt flavourless steak and of course she was too shy to just send it back to the kitchen but the waitress pretended that she did not notice. Five stars for teas, 1 star for service. OK, so I've been coming here since the place just opened in the late 90's. It used to be delightfully authentic, from the mosaic walls to Tajik plov. Persian kufteh balls were amazing. Great coffees in french press, phenomenal selection of excellent teas. The latter part remained, the food got a little "watered down" and too salty & less flavourful to appeal to a wider range of diners. However, here's the biggest issue nowadays: trying to even get in. Had it been an isolated incident, I would've gladly let it go because I do still like the place. But this happened on quite a few weekends: I would call in and ask to make a reservation; they reply something along the lines of "we can't take reservations, but we're not too busy, just come in"; we show up and it's 30-45 min. wait, sometimes longer. It's almost like some airlines who overbook on purpose. Why not just take the reservations or (and) to be more realistic about the expected crowd? Hint: last week's levels could be a good indicator. This practice needs to end. Also, the service became really uneven. One time you would get a helpful waitstaff who offers suggestions on teas and wines, another time you get a sour-grapes who would rather be anywhere but serving you food. Mind you, me and my family have old-world manners and demeanour, we treat waitstaff with respect and leave large tip every time. Both of these examples are indicative of poor management. Kindly return to what the place once was. For now, I'm discontinuing my patronage of this place and warning others to stay away. read more

A great location with awesome outdoor seating. A creek runs by giving it a nice sound, and it is amazing for people watch as it is right near the Boulder outdoor market on weekends. This is one of the best places to relax and meet friends for brunch, if you have the time to really relax and enjoy a long lunch with friends here this place is hard to beat. the ambiance, the tea, and the dessert are all worth the drive from denver but my 3 star review factors in my lamb entree which was so gamy and sad. i would probably not come back for any meal here but definitely for dessert, tea, and perhaps an appetizer or something small that's difficult to mess up. i highly recommend the chocolate cake with rose syrup which has put me on a quest to find rose syrup recipes and drinks. all in all, i think it's a really beautiful place and it's worth coming here just to see the ornate tile work and decor. i just desperately wish the food was better. read more

I freakin' love this place. It's a 100% unique experience. The interior was hand constructed by artisans from Kyrgyzstan and is absolutely beautiful. The food is varied with a world cuisine theme and EVERYTHING is delicious. There is something for everyone, lots of vegetarian choices, meat, and of course the tea. They have an extensive tea menu with literally hundreds to choose from, all of which are made from real tea leaves, not prepackaged and processed like you buy at the store. The service is very consistent and attentive to your needs. I can't say enough good things about this establishment. Go experience it for yourself. read more

The tea and the food was amazing hands down! What ruined the experience for me was the poor service by the wait staff and by the management team. I had about 15 friends with me and we were over charged for our bill. Instead of offering a credit refund to us, they offered to send a gift card to the people that were over charged. It's been 3 weeks and we havent seen anything from them. We never got an apology either. If you want to enjoy the beauty of the building, you can view it from the outside and save yourself the experience of the staff. read more

I drove up from Denver with my parents for a nice lunch in Boulder and waited half an hour for a table even though I called 2 hours ahead of time to put my name on the list. After half an hour, we were told we had a choice of waiting another half hour for a table or sitting at the raised seats where we had to sit cross legged. Since we were starving we opted for the raised seats. The table was ok but the seats were full of food dropped by previous customers and nobody seemed to be interested in cleaning this. We still went with it since, well, we were starving. We had to wait for another 10 minutes for a waiter to site up to take our order. Good thing we had almost memorized the menu by then. The house chai and the 2nd flush Darjeeling were both really good. I had the Korean noodles with pork belly, parents had the Persian kookoo. A bit on the oily side the noodles I'm picky since I'm spoiled with excellent Korean food the bay area. They were both good and our waitress was very nice and tried to accommodate us. I would probably come back but the wait and the seating staff and the dirty seating are major deterrents. Next time we'll definitely get a table! read more

The tranquility, zen-like quality of this establishment was overshadowed by the rude host who essentially pushed our business away. I'm sure people will continue to flock here as they've cornered this niche dining market, but I think they need pay attention to quality control of their staff and not just rest on their laurels. I have been to the Teahouse many times but only for tea. Today I visited twice with my friends, in the morning we went straight to the bar to order to go tea. A male bartender was extremely rude, ignoring us on purpose just so he could get his check out done. A female bartender was awesome and had lots of suggestions and was very knowledgeable. we came back for dinner, we've tried coming in to eat a couple times prior but we were always too hungry to wait. We were greeted by a very unenthusiastic host that sat us promptly, our server as sweet. She brought us bread with oil, we started to eat it then my boyfriend noticed something mold like on the bottom of a few slices of the bread. I brought it to our servers attention, a manager came out and apologized saying the bread is baked every day and it was probably card board on the bottom. (which it was totally a blue and gray color) she offered us a discount on our dinner and a free appetizer. All of our appetizers were great (ribs, meatballs, and hummus). Our entrees were luke warm and seemed as if they had been sitting in the window for awhile. When the bill came the manager had only taken off the appetizer. I work in the service industry, I very rarely complain but I'm unfortunately disappointed about the food. It sucks because I'm always recommending this place. I will definitely always return for the tea but the food not so much. read more

Our favorite place to dine in the summer is at the tables right next to the river.
