I'm a simple girl and order just the basic hamburger. This is not a skimpy meat portion, which is pretty awesome on an extra carnivorous day for me. Grass-fed, grain-finished (I had to Google what grain-finished meant, and I think it almost ruins this whole grass-fed thing, but so is eating a bun slathered with mayonnaise). Really I can normally just order the burger and I'm fine, but sometimes I like to indulge in their sweet potato fries. Burger and fries set me back about $11. Their milkshakes are okay, but I think they're too pricey -- $5 or so, I think and it's not like it's Strauss. I personally always order take out -- it's basically an outdated hole in the wall. Like a few have mentioned before, if you like it cooked medium, definitely order it medium rare. They haven't really perfected this whole timing thing, but I'm just not ready to persecute them for it when I think they're dishing up a fine burger in the land of very few good consistent restaurants. read more

I love the burgers here. That's why 2 stars. And the grill man was wearing a mask properly, which is good. The girl at the register was wearing one with her nose uncovered and taking an order/chatting with a customer breathing over the counter toward the grill with no mask at all. Pretty decent burger place. Not a large menu, but the Angus beef burgers are fine here. Despite being on MacArthur in San Leandro, not only is there street parking, but they also have their own parking lot! A small restaurant, but has enough tables for everyone. They've gone with the diner look in a sort of low end way, but does not detract from the yummy burgers. Sweet potato fries were as expected, but the onion rings were a disappointment. Visited this place Saturday night and it was ok. Thats it, just ok. I think i could have made something similar if had went to Safeway. The presentation was like that of a show of "Kitchen Nightmare's" before Gordan Ramsay changed it around. They did not have turkey burgers there because they ran out of turkey unfortunately, that was the reason I wanted to go there in the first place. I ended up getting the Pulled Pork sandwich and it was ok. Not too bad, but nothing great. The grilled cheese was average and the fries were dismal to say the least. Just not really enough effort into it really. There are a million burger joints in the bay area, why choose you guys? Ok, This is the second time going in here. Giving this place a second chance. Actually waiting a whole 6 months, before doing so. I'm all about supporting local, the whole point to giving it a second chance, but I'm done. The first visit was on a whim, driving past it a million times, I decide, "why not." The "blonde mexican", first approached, along with a cook, chatting it up in spanish, pronouncing my name off of my debit card, in spanish. Who cares whether, or not it is, or it isn't. Asking me??? ok? then, continuing to talk in spanish, because ??... So, what if we were hispanic? I'm appauled. So, as they are talking derogatory in spanish, I decide, "whatever" .... maybe they are just the help, bored, with nothing to do...... The food. Alright. Restaurant, totally clean. Food tastes fresh. Had the hertbivore. Ok, going in the second time, now a whole freakin crowd of them talking-- Ignorance! This is America, and not everyone with brown eyes is mexican , I'm done! Laughing at my mother in law, because she's ??? And my daughter's half mexican, so supposedly, she must speak spanish. So disgusting. I said thank you so many times, giving every opportunity for redemption, but nope.. they threw my salad down with no reply. I've been in there twice. First time was just for a quick lunch during work hours. Had a mushroom swiss burger. It was just so~so and kind of bland. But, it's local to me so I decided to give it another try. Took my girlfriend there for dinner and we both had a burger, onion rings, a bottled water and a milkshake. The total was over $30. That seems fairly steep for a burger joint. Again, the burger was just so~so. The shake was excellent though! 5 stars for that mofo! Highly doubtful that I will go back in there unless I hear they've improved their menu. I would give more stars if possible! I always get the Kobe style hamburger and a malted shake! The shake tastes like "real shakes" use to taste. Full of ice cream and flavor! The Kobe burger is amazing! Cooked to order, buttery and full of flavor! You can tell the place is amazing as a line can quickly form for their food! This was a tasty burger (a la Pulp Fiction)! Lol - after I wrote this I saw that Justin C. used the same line. Great minds think alike! I got the California and some onion rings and it really hit the spot. Moist, tender meat that was from local grass-fed cows. Not bad at all. Gave Blvd Burger a try last night with my brother before the Warriors game. My bro lives right around the corner - so we wanted to support a local business. Walked in and it smelled great. The have like 5 burgers and 3 chicken sandwiches on their menu. I went with the Blvd Burger with Bacon and Cheddar. The burgers are chargrilled and were decent sized. The bacon was fresh and crisp. Produce on point. The burger was good, but nothing memorable - the fries were skinny and a bit overcooked. A safe burger spot, it was definitely tasty. But nothing more than "pretty good." read more

Needs work. I drove past this place a few times and today was the day I thought, "You know, I could really go for a burger." So at 4:35pm on a Tuesday afternoon, we headed over. There were a couple of people sitting at a table, otherwise it was pretty dead. I checked out the menu and then we ordered a WHOLE ENCHILADA burger. So, from the menu it says it's a burger with avocado, mushrooms, grilled onions, jalapenos and pepper jack cheese. The waiter asked if I wanted fries and a drink which would be three bucks more. I requested for the sweet potato fries instead of the regular fries....apparently, they have no deal for that. AND sweet potato fries got so much more than regular fries. I can understand if it was a buck extra, but it was $1.95 for regular fries and $3.95 for sweet potato fries. Anyway, so my one burger with sweet potato fries and a drink was $14.38. Our burger arrives and on this big oval plate we have a huge piece of lettuce and four pickles on one side, and the burger on the other side. The burger was served open faced, had avocado on the top half of the bun and the burger side had lots of mushrooms and onions on the other side. It looked a little small, but had been topped nicely. The flavors were slight, but the toppings were at least fresh looking. The burger flavor was just your average burger flavor--no angus, grass fed beef flavor I know and love. So we are chomping on the burger and it finally dawned on me--there are no jalapenos on this thing. Unfortunately, the new review criteria for burger joints these days involves getting the order right. I know it's a small thing, but if it's listed, it should be on there. Quality beef, no doubt. Unfortunately, they don't know how to cook a medium burger. For the second time, my beef came out overcooked. Now I understand why folks order their burgers medium rare here. Sweet potato fries are good, but I wish they had a dipping sauce (other than ranch). On a day of splurging for my birthday month I had the espresso (or is it coffee?) shake... Yum! We've eaten there 2x now and I've stuck with the Blvd Burger + Avacado w. the sweet potato fries. Paul picked a burger the 1st time and a chicken sandwich the 2nd time. We both loved their fries - regular cut & the sweet potato fries. The meat was delicious in the burgers, which are grass fed and you can tell this is the case...the chicken sandwich was a disappointment to paul because it was a little dry and he expected a lot more flavor. Overheard a few classmates of Leadership San Leandro talking about how good Blvd Burger is so I thought I'd give it a try. Boy were they right! It's just a bit pricey for me for a daily lunch spot, but that doesn't mean the meal wasn't worth it. On my first trip I tried the Longhorn, a burger made with a large jalapeno, avocado, black beans and pepperjack cheese. I ordered the burger without the beans. It had the right amount of heat. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. Burgers are prepared with the veggies on the side and without condiments. You can find mayo, mustard (yellow and dijon), ketchup and A1 on the table. All their hamburger meat is Angus beef and comes from a local ranch. At my second visit I had the M.B.A, which is mushrooms, bacon and avocado - so good. I imagine swiss cheese would top this perfectly. They have daily meals but otherwise everything is a la carte. The first time around I had the sweet potato fries. Curly fries aren't on the menu, but they have them. They also offer a salmon burger and many chicken sandwiches, as well as a vegetarian sandwich. I'm definitely a fan! read more

I hate to say it, especially since I live in Castro Valley, but this Boulevard Burger tops the Castro Valley one. I know they're different businesses, and the one in Castro Valley is fancier, with flat screen televisions and tables outside, but the food, the service, and the speed of the food coming out is head and shoulders above the Castro Valley place. I don't understand the name thing myself. Anyway, today they cleaned the tables quickly, the young lady who served us at the counter and at the table was friendly and efficient. When I asked about the clam chowder, she said she would even give me a try if I doubted that it was good. I didn't. It was indeed good. We ordered two kinds of burgers, medium, the clam chowder, fries and onion rings. Good service, good food, efficient, and reasonably priced. They bussed their tables quickly, but at the Castro Valley place, they just let the uncleaned tables go for as long as they can. Disgusting. I usually get takeout here, so I can't comment on the service except to say that the one time I did eat in, we had a fine experience. What matters to me is the quality of the food, and Boulevard has my favorite local burger. High quality meat, cooked well, and served with good quality produce. I typically just get the standard Boulevard Burger, lettuce wrapped with cheese, and it hits the spot. I've also had the turkey burger and a chicken sandwich, both of which were good, too. This is a cute 50s style diner is located near the cross-street between MacArthur and Dutton Avenue in San Leandro on a lovely little tree-lined street with a view of highway 580 above. The restaurant is a no-frills burger joint that proclaims the following on it's to-go menu "Our beef is grass-fed, grain-finished California Angus which has no steroids, antibiotics, hormones or pesticides.It comes from BN Ranch in Bolinas, CA..." All I can say is that my grilled Boulevard Burger sent me to charbroiled heaven... My husband had the California Burger with Avocado and Monterey Jack cheese that he was happy with because he kept making mmm noises. The fries were crispy and meaty. I had the recent experience eating dinner here which I found to be ok...Unfortunately, the people that had eaten with me found it to be more of a 2.5, so I'm being generous in giving it 3 stars. We had 'The Longhorn' burger, cheese burger, 'The MBA', regular fries, and sweet potato fries. In which, there was nothing significant or really anything that really stood out, if anything bland tasting. Some ingredients didn't seem to be very fresh as well. I somehow would have expected the very least for them to make their own fries/sweet potato fries, but no, frozen packages to fryer. The service seemed decent, nothing out of the ordinary comparing to a fast-food establishment. Aside from, they bring you your food to your table being a step up from fast-food. The decor sort of clashes for whatever odd reasons and made me think it was mixed 1950s/late 1980s look to it. This actually puzzled me, trying to think "what is this place going for?" Only thing that really stood out to me was the fact that the street and sidewalk along this place have definitely changed since growing up in the area. Might I add, for the better. To be able to sit indoors next to the window looking out seemed quite nice a grave improvement from what the stores looked like before. On a random note, this place reminded me more of being a step slightly up from a McDonalds....hard to imagine though. The vibe gives me the sense that this place is good for families/kid sport teams to go and enjoy a lunch or dinner.
