So today, after reading some great reviews here on Yelp, I decided to go to Pot & Paddle. The girls that work there were very helpful! In addition to gumbo (no rice), I wanted to try the red beans (no rice), white beans (no rice), and coleslaw. So one of the girls recommended that I get the red bean dinner, as it comes with two sides, and to also get a container of gumbo to go. It was way more food than I actually wanted or needed, I was trying to just get small sides of each thing. But that's okay! It made for a great lunch and then a nice dinner later on! The red beans are absolutely addictive! Just thinking about them now while typing this, and my mouth is watering! The gumbo, white beans, and coleslaw are all equally delicious and definitely worth coming here to order! But there is something about those red beans that make me want to eat there everyday... yummy! The restaurant is clean, modern, and very bright and open. They have a little condiments table with packets of Louisiana hot sauce (two different brands), spices, salt, pepper, etc. I made sure to try both of the hot sauce packets and the spice packet. However, the food here doesn't need it. You know how some places NEED the extra help to liven up the food? Not here, it's already scrumptious!

The pot roast tasted like grandma's cooking, the tuna was so fresh and flavorful, and all of our veggies were buttery and delicious. 10/10 meal for us! Do not skip the Mississippi mud pie!

We were visiting Baton Rouge and looking for a new place to try. I looked on TikTok, yelp, and…read moregoogle and this place had good reviews so we decided to go. When we pulled up, we realized the parking lot was full( it's a shared parking lot), but we were able to find a spot. There was only one other family dining in when we arrived, so there were a lot of empty tables and our waitress sat us right by the bathroom and the storage area which I didn't appreciate. When going to a restaurant no one wants to look at your storage area. I think they need to put a curtain up or something to cover all the supplies because it isn't aesthetically pleasing. On to the food and drinks. Our waitress started us off with some water, but my mom and I didn't drink it because my dad said it was nasty( you know certain areas tap water may taste/ smell funny and I don't blame the restaurant for that it's more of a city issue). I ordered a pink lemonade and my parents had Arnold palmers. I ordered the Fried chicken Orleans, my mom had the hamburger steak, and my dad had the mornay. All the meals came with a breadstick. My food and my dad's food was covered in sauce. He had fish but you couldn't even see it because of how much sauce was on it. They could definitely cut back on the sauce and maybe not pour so much on top of the protein. For me, it made the batter on my chicken get soggy quick. Flavor of the food was ok, but it could've used more seasoning and the sauce could've been thinner (it was pretty thick). My dad felt like his fish was overcooked and could've been seasoned more. My mom enjoyed her hamburger steak and didn't have any complaints. All of our veggies were cooked well. Prices were fine. Overall this place is just ok to me, I don't have to go back.
