I had late lunch at this little gem of a restaurant yesterday. I regret that I did not take a picture of the artful presentation of my red curry (with shrimp). My friend had a soup that was whipped up based on her special order (driven by her allergies) and we shared the fresh rolls appetizer. The food was phenomenal and everything was so, so fresh! I cannot say enough good things about this place. We were told there is a new chef (yesterday was his first day) and they could not have hired a better one. I wish I still lived in Toronto - I would go to Bow Thai for lunch every weekend. I noticed that one previous review complained the food was too spicy. I like my meals fairly mild but I forgot to ask. The food was just perfect! It's easy to add heat, it's more difficult to remove it once the food is on the table. We have eaten here a number of times, maybe 20 times? The service is friendly, the place is small but it is a neighborhood restaurant right beside a really big restaurant. The food is good. We had the pad Thai and a veggie dish. Portion size was on the bigger side, good flavour profile, fresh ingredients, food on point, good amount of heat but not too spicy. Place is clean and pretty. Had the spicy veggie and Tofu , although great, way too many noddles, however that may be great for some and it seams to be a common Thai thing. I will be back to try the rest of the vegetarian dishes, since this place is so close to home. The deep fried veggie spring rolls were good except it had a bit of a fishy after taste from the oil. I'm assuming that they fry their calamari in that same oil as the spring rolls. I will never order the rolls again. Coconut rice was to die for. First time trying this. Amazing!! I just ordered from there. The food is so bad I am considering call my credit card to cancel. I've never been so peeved over bad food. I ordered vegetable red curry and shrimp red curry. It is clear that they served me the left over. The curry was all sauce, like soup, with two table spoons of veggie in one and shrimp in the other. It was gross, and I cannot get the nasty taste out of my throat. In the veggie curry, there as supposed to be baby corn, all I got was the tiny ends almost 1/2"; and when I say end, I really mean the small tip of the baby corn. It was dry and old. I've never tasted carrots like this. I'm still not convince that it was carrots. It looked like carrot, it tasted like a sponge (I imagined that's what a sponge would taste like). I went to try it with my boyfriend after work and it's really terrible! We picked mild curry but when we ate it, it was so spicy. Plus the weird thing is when you order curry they do not come with rice, you need to add 1 buck to get the rice. That just does not make any sense to me at all. Can you find a person just eat curry for dinner without rice or noodles? The interior is nothing special at all. We feel we got ripped off. Been here a couple times and I'm always happy with the food. I've done both take out and dine in and both times it has been great service and food. I would go more often but I live downtown so it's not convenient. Their options are great and have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The portions are huge which means left overs. And the service is good - they constantly check on you and refill your water. I'm not sure why people aren't happy with this place because I think it's really good Thai food at a very great price. Wow, these people mixed up my order as well. I had previously given them a good review, but forget it - I'm done with them. The price is fine, but they just throw chili peppers all over green curry--turning it into a burning hot red curry! When I called the woman to complain, she just kept telling me over and over "just don't order it extra spicy"-- but there's no such option either way on their site. It was average.I ordered coconut chicken soup but did not liked it at all so after one sip I asked her to take it back and requested not to charge me so manager agreed but I had to make another purchase so I tried pad Thai spicy noodles chicken which was good. Been here twice for lunch. Good value for money. As they have lunch specials which include mains plus mango salad/soup plus a spring roll. The taste of food is okay, nothing to rave about. My co-workers and I accidentally stumbled upon this restaurant. We wanted to grab a quick bite during our 1 hour lunch break and let me tell you that they were quick with bringing out our orders. I wish there was a choice that starred even less than EEK because the end result for Bow Thai Restaurant is concluded thus: HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE WITH BOW THAI + STAY AWAY. The first time we went in it was so good we couldn't figure out why we'd never gone in before. It is located in an odd little plaza with a few other eateries and a large Shoppers Drug Mart that is open till midnight. Second time it was a take out situation and it was alright, but not quite what we had ordered. Though wasn't worth going to go back for. But still tasty enough and seemingly fresh, so it stayed on The List. Ordered for delivery 3rd (and LAST time) and that was an unmitigated disaster. Total complete DISASTER. They were told repeatedly to ensure a certain ingredient was left out of every dish due to allergy. And what do you think was in half of them? That's right. So she couldn't even come near the table. The veggies they used were half rotten, and they got it all wrong. Most of it wasn't even hot, and where we had it sent wasn't even that far from their location so there is just no excuse. Now here's the fun part. We called to complain and they refused to take any responsibility for their errors. After FOUR more calls and our demands to speak to the boss or owner or manager - - who incredibly doesn't seem to exist - - some guy calls back and says we should bring it back. If we could have gotten there we wouldn't have needed delivery in the first place. He then suggests (and this is all really escalated to nasty from their end oh wow) that the delivery guy will come pick it up and after they go through it all - and taste it - then they'll decide if they will give us our money back. WHaaaaaaaaT?!?!? No, don't think that will work and we demand our money back repeatedly. They refuse. Well, my photos show otherwise. We complained to the Board of Jokes, oh, I mean Health, who doesn't care that they are serving rotten food. Really, you mean when you call ahead, and say you are coming, when you show up there is nothing wrong on the premises? Anyhow, STILL waiting for my $46 but I won't hold my breath. Since they closed Spring Rolls at Fairview, this is the closest thai place and we were craving thai for dinner. I was hesitant because of the mixed reviews on here but I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, they charge you for extra rice, but the charge is minimal and comparable to a curry w/ rice dish at other places. You also get discounts and/or free items for ordering over a certain dollar value - wonderful! We ordered take out and they were lovely over the phone and happy to answer any questions we had. When we arrived for pick up the food was ready and waiting for us, and still really hot! The service at the restaurant was super friendly and when we sat down to eat at home it was delicious. We ordered chicken pad thai and green curry with spring rolls as an appetizer. No complaints. Huge portions, good flavor, friendly service. Better than most smaller thai places that I've tried. The only time that I've had better thai food was at pricey downtown restaurants, and that's to be expected. This is as good as it gets for similar restaurants. Try it out! read more

Downhill significantly last visit. Prices have increased. My order was well prepared but I asked for beef in the dish and got shrimp. An order of Mussaman curry had way too much tamarind paste to the point of being really sour and an order of fried rice with Chinese broccoli had far too little greens and undercooked rice. read more

Did take out through Just Eats. Food quality was awful. The Tom Yam was just some lemongrass broth with boiled chicken. The Mee gorang was nasty and smelt 3 days old. Went to this place for lunch today. Had one of the lunch specials, red curry with chicken. They have quite a number of choices for their lunch specials, and all of them are $8.99 including either a mango salad or a soup plus a springroll. The soup was a hot & sour soup and it tasted mediocre at best. As for the main entrée, there were about 5 pieces of chicken with lots of vegetables (with the majority being carrot slices that are more for aesthetics). The jasmine rice on the side was definitely cooked with too much water, very soft and did not blend well with the curry. The red curry though tasted pretty good. The best thing about it was that contrary to most asian restaurants, you don't leave with a mouthful of MSG, so that was a thumbs up. As for service, they were not very attentive. We asked for water refills for at least 4 times before we got it. All in all, food was mediocre and service was minimal. read more

I don't understand the 5 star ratings, really. There were pro's and con's here. I ordered the Tom Kha and the Pad Thai. Pro's - the soup had a GREAT flavor and you get a lot for your money. Con's - there wasn't a lot going on in the soup but a handful of mushrooms and maybe 5 or 6 pieces of chicken. Also, I found a lot of ligaments, a bay leaf, and a small piece of bone in the soup. The Pad Thai? It tasted nothing like real Pad Thai. I had two bites and couldn't eat any more. I had takeout so unfortunately I couldn't do anything about it but it was BAD. There was no sauce on it; it was basically noodles, meat, and chicken. What flavor was there tasted like lemon and ketchup. I'm in from out of town and chose Bow Thai based on a lot of good reviews and being reasonably near my hotel. But honestly, I can't wait to get home and have some REAL Pad Thai. read more

I called to make a delivery and there were a few problems. First, I asked for the pad thai to be medium spicy and it was not the least bit spicy when I got it. It took an hour and a half to get the delivery. OH AND, the menu that I got in the mail on the same day had outdated prices apparently because everything I ordered was more expensive than the menu. Went for Mother's Day. What I like most about this place is that the food is definitely made to order every time so it's fresh and the presentation is always nice. Food is reasonable. Tasty at times and average at times. I go there coz its the closest Thai place to my house.

Do not order delivery from here! We placed our order and were told it would arrive in 45minutes. After an hour we called and they said it would be another 10-15 minutes. After another 20 we called again and were told 15 more minutes. When we complained they said they would give us free spring rolls next time, which they already give with an order over $25. Another 20 minutes passed and no food showed up. When we called a final time to complain they said it would be another 10 minutes and they would give us a 15% discount. At this point we had been waiting for 2 hours and assuming the food would be cold, we cancelled our order without receiving any apology whatsoever. 10 minutes later our food arrived, and when we explained to the man that we had cancelled our order he basically told us he was going to have to pay for the food himself if we didn't take it. He explained that it was his first day which is why it took so long. We ended up paying for the food and surprisingly it was still hot. Considering the restaurant is 10 minutes away from our place and the fact that the food was hot, we can only assume there was a mixup at the restaurant that they chose to blame on their delivery man. We are very unimpressed with the customer service that this restaurant provided us, and will not order from here again. read more
