Been on a thai kick recently! The khao soi roti taco things was a crowd favourite, I found it to be unique :$ Everything really flavourful and tasty. However, I found that the Pad kra pao was quite oily and the sauce was a bit too strong. The rice it came with was very sweet and coconutty which I kinda liked but it got heavy near the end. Unfortunately though the restaurant was empty it felt like the servers were rushing us to leave. It didn't affect our experience much though! read more

Came here to eat on a Monday night, arrived without a reservation but got seated fairly quick even though the restaurant was pretty full. The staff were extremely nice and quick with their service. The restaurant was very long and had a surprising amount of tables with lots of Thai decor. We ordered the following: Green curry with brown rice 7/10 - chose tofu as protein and it was very good, flavourful coconut curry with lots of vegetables - $18 Khao Soi 9/10 - Egg noodles with beef and a golden coconut curry, very flavourful and filled with lots of onions and green + red peppers. Very tasty and presentation was on point - $21 Thai iced tea 7/10 - a little too sweet for my liking but still pretty good - $4.5 Golden sweet potato fritters 8/10 - loved the texture for this, almost like fries but fright in a light batter. Fantastic restaurant for Thai food lovers who have kids! They have a kids menu that doubled as a coloring activity book. The choices are really good and come with a main dessert and drink. I love going to the Chiang Rai and their sister companies. They have locations in Markham and Scarborough, and also closer to the waterfront in Etobicoke. Every time I come here i get blown away with all the colours, and creative plating, it truly matches all the flavours they are presenting. Chiang Rai is a super good Thai spot that's not talked about enough and luckily, it's conveniently near me. The interior is cute and cozy, tucked in a great spot. It can get pretty busy for dinner, but the service always remains nice and friendly. The papaya salad here is bomb--it rivals my mom's salad with the perfect mix of tart and spicy flavors. The Pad Thai is a bit on the salty side but still delicious and comes in a good portion. The Khao Soi is my favorite--it's spot on here, especially with the eggs, which I really like. The Panaeng curry has a nice balance of sweet and a slight heat; I always get it with Malaysian bread on the side. The pineapple fried rice isn't my favorite dish here as the portion is a bit small, but it's still really good. We came here for lunch at weekend without making any reservation. The restaurant was small but not packed with people. It was a bit hard to find parking on the street. We tried a few classical dishes after reading some reviews. Everything turned out to be decent at reasonable price ($25-$30 per person). Tom yum soup was quite flavourful, more sour than spicy I would say. The curry dishes were still a bit spicy although we asked them to make it non-spicy. I quite enjoyed the Panang curry with its sweet coconut flavour. Our favourite dish was the Khao soi, which was egg noodles with golden curry sauce. The coconut milk sauce made the noodles sweet and the sauce had similar flavour and texture as sweet sesame sauce being used in Northern Chinese cuisine's cold noodle dish. Last but not least, a meal without dessert is not complete. We ordered the apple blossom which is apple pastry topped with icecream. Again, love this dish. Overall, this place is the best Thai restaurant I've ever tried so far in Toronto although it just offers usual items like curries and Pad Thai as other places. read more

You'll find flavour in their famous pad Thai with shrimp ($23). Sour, savoury, and slightly sweet notes flood my mouth on the first bite, especially a strong tamarind element. It complimented the chewy noodles, which were stir fried to perfection and resisted sogginess despite being slathered in sauce. The finely chopped roasted peanuts also helped to counteract the wetness of the dish. I would skip the tom yum fried rice with vegetable and tofu ($18) as it's also very tangy and two sour dishes were too much for one meal. Indeed, tom yum's recipe has lemongrass and lime, but these tart elements soaked into the rice it was powerful. Still, I enjoyed all the herbs: galangal (a peppery ginger), basil, and kaffir lime leaves, which added a freshness to the starch. The fried rice was just too wet - Chiang Rai likely uses fresh rather than day old rice - to the point that it tasted better as leftovers. If you're a fan of chicken devil, the crispy chicken chilli sauce stir fry ($19) is a stellar version of the dish. I love the big nuggets of battered chicken that's very lightly covered with the spicy, savoury, and sweet sauce so they remain crunchy. Just get to the chicken quickly as there's not a lot of pieces amongst the vegetables. read more

Extra star for plating esthetic and great service. We came late on a weekday to celebrate and was able to grab a table without reservations. The space is well decorate and has great ambiance while being clean and modern. I had the thai basil fried rice and it was presented so nicely. The food itself was also delicious, with plenty of flavor and textures. The thai basil was so fragrant and I liked that the rice came with the dish (not always the case these days). I love Thai food. So whenever I get an opportunity to try a new place I jump on it. This restaurant is an absolute gem. The food was very tasty and the green curry chicken had the right amount of spice. The Thai Calamari was also delightful. Don't forget to ask for the garlic chilli oil! I generally don't upload negative reviews but I had an utterly disappointing experience from this long bookmarked place. Did a takeout for Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup. Never have I seen a more oily soup that lacks comfort of lemongrass soup and rather sweet and salty concoction. And Pad Thai also was too high on flavouring that you just can't enjoy entire thing as there is nothing to break flavour in between. Tofu was hardly there in both. We really really reaaaaallllllllllllly love the Markham location, so we figured we would try the Avenue Road location as we were passing by, and it did not disappoint. Quality and pricing is consistent across both locations. First of all, great customer service. The staff are always really kind and grateful for your business. The food is so good. The pad Thai is great and not the ketchup-y type of sauce. The pad see ew is another noodle dish we love, that is not like your typical wide noodled Asian dish. The noodles are flat and cut up and very flavourful. This was the first time trying the red/paneng curry and I'll definitely be ordering again. Saw this new option for Thai on Yelp and decided to give it a try! The restaurant staff were very nice and helped us with a small issue that came up- no problem at all. The food arrived while we were out but it was well packaged and still super hot! We ordered the pad Thai, phanaeng curry, and sweet potato fritters. I went here twice. The first time, the food was pretty good. The service was okay. The servers forgot to bring us tea 3 times. I went back this weekend and was served the wrong food. This has been on my list since time and it did not disappoint! This is their avenue location that is super close to wilson & avenue intersection. I truly love their interior design as it is giving the streets of Thailand. They have amazing customer service because the staff was very welcoming and attentive. Me and my friend ordered their thai iced tea for drinks, panang curry and famous pad thai for our main. The dishes were incredible, 10/10 for presentation. Their pad thai is a bit different from what I usually order at thai restaurants but this was still so delicious. Rich in flavour and not too saucy as some pad thais would be so I like it. They also added peanuts on the side if you wish to add some. As for their panang curry it was so good!! Great amount of chicken and veggie portions. This restaurant was right by my bridal shop so I had to try it out! It had such a cute vibe and the wallpaper and decor were so cute! We got two mains and one appetizers to share with three people. We started with the chicken satay skewers. I think the skewers were a little dry but it was good with their nutty sauce. I do not think it was worth the price though as this appetizer cost was about the same as the main and the portion was small. The Khao Soi was my favorite! It had crispy egg noodles and it would soften in its sauce! The Khao Soi sauce was also creamy and delicious! I would definitely get that again. The Massaman curry was yummy as well, but it was a little too sweet for my own preference. It was good when paired with rice though and it was nice and hearty. Overall, the service was quick and the staffs were super nice as well. We got our food fast and all at the same time. The staff had read our specific request and did not forget about it. The spring rolls were nice and crunchy both on the outside and inside, with the filling. The pad Thai was very good and had a decent amount of shrimp, which is not always the case with restaurants. They also put the peanuts on the side, which I guess, I good for people with intolerance or allergies. The only thing that was missing with the pad Thai is the lime. I've long-since decided that if there's a new Thai joint in my neck of the woods, I'm going to be eating their food within days of discovering their existence. And indeed, I received a menu in my mailbox for this North York location of Chiang Rai and was chowing down on their delectable eats just a day or two later. This being my first taste of Chiang Rai's food, I knew without a doubt that I was ordering their Famous Pad Thai ("Stir fried Thai rice noodles with egg, tofu, and tamarind sauce. Served with fresh lime, green onion, fresh bean sprouts and roasted peanuts"), which I got with chicken as my protein. I was a little disappointed that there was no option to choose my heat level, but such concerns were rendered moot by my first few bites. This is a damn good pad thai. It's perhaps not as sauce-heavy as certain others I've tried, but the dish is certainly not lacking in flavor and I was impressed that it didn't taste like every other version out there. The copious chicken was cooked really well, as were the dish's other components, and the noodles weren't soggy in the slightest. I will note that despite what the description says, my food didn't come with any roasted peanuts, which was a little disappointing but far from disastrous. And as part of their grand opening, we were given a complimentary order of Crispy Fish and these fried-fish fingers were nothing short of addictive, particularly when paired with the included sweet sauce. read more

This restaurant is pretty busy and they don't take reservations for less than 4 people. They have a tiny patio close to the parking lot as well for those people who wish to sit outside. I gave this place a 2 star for the decoration and the service. The food over all Doesn't taste good like the traditional Thai restaurant. Heard great things about this place so my friends and I finally decided to go for dinner. The place was packed when we got there but we still stayed the whole 40 minute wait to get seated. We ordered the seafood hot pot, pineapple fried rice, and green curry. The food was absolutely delicious! Our favourite had to be the seafood hot pot. Great soup for sharing with a small group! The staff is also very friendly and welcoming. We unfortunately did have an issue with little hard white pieces in our fried rice. At first I thought it was bone but the pieces my friends had looked different. When we brought it up to our server, she went to the back to solve this immediately after apologizing multiple times. She said they were pieces of stone that had got mixed into our rice. This was extremely worrying as we were afraid we had been ingesting a bunch of stones the whole time. In the end, they removed that dish from the bill which we appreciated. It's a shame that this issue spoiled our experience because the food was honestly amazing, stone or no stone! read more

Thai food generally hits hard on the sweet, salty, spicy and tangy sourness and these all seemed to have come short on the pad thai that we had. Maybe it was an off day for them but the dishes we had seemed comparable to Thai Express.. The service and pickup was smooth but I don't know if I will be returning. read more

Can only speak for takeout/ delivery. Nice, broad menu. I regularly order red curry and fresh rolls, but I've also really enjoyed the basil tofu and some others. Delivery is always fast and arrives hot. It's not your next level thai (hard to compare to some of the known ones downtown) but it's consistently yummy and a great place to pick up dinner. Also, really great portion sizes, esp in respect to the price. If I order two dishes, I can get three meals out of it (and I'm sure others could easily make it four). read more

I went here for dine in but this place felt like it's little more suitable for takeout than dine in. But never judge the book by it's cover, right? So after I was seated, I ordered 5 dishes : crispy fish, mango salad, Pad Thai, green curry and basil fried rice. Surprisingly enough, crispy fish was made with absolutely fresh basa. Unlike stinky fish dish at Bar Reyna, where the chef believe that's how "fresh" fish should smell and taste like (yes, I'm still bitter about this), i was welcome with crispy bread crumb and flaky fish with refreshing ocean smell. My only complain was the recipe could been little more develop than just serving simply fried fish and tamarind sauce for it's price tag. Or little bigger serving would been nice. But it's a good start! Pad Thai taste like it was made with tamarind so that's already better than many ketchup pad thai s out there (i know.. the standard is pretty low lol) but there's also not much to say about this dish. Green curry was velvety curry with hint of herbs and little kick grill chilly. Maybe I would like little more herbal taste but still a solid curry. Thai basil rice, it could been better if there's more Thai basil in but still not bad. Mango salad was exactly same as usual takeout mango salad. Nothing special. So was it authentic Thai food? No. It was more of westernized Thai food prepared by other nationality chef. Then was it bad? Also, NO. I can't believe I'm saying this but it was actually pretty nice. As you can already tell by now, I am not a huge fan of North American style Thai food like Thai one on but Chiang Rai chef definitely know one or two things about cooking so everything was cooked right. Just not authentic. Presentation was 6/5 for such a small restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by how presentable all dishes are. I also received fairly good service despite of constant distraction from takeout delivery guys walking in. Overall, it's a good addition to the neighborhood. Just had lunch for a friend's bday. It's a party of 10 plus my table of four. The four of us went in 30 minutes later than the others and we ordered our mains while others are having their apps. We are the table of four with young children. Instead of giving our mains first, they served my friend's table first (they ordered 10 minutes after us on the mains). Of course my kids are getting restless as food kept going to the other side. Long story short, they still charge my table of four 20% on gratuity even though I told them in advance that this table is separate from the rest of the party. The server never came to refill my glasses and I had to take away my own dirty dish. I do not grasp how they can have the audacity to ask for 20%! I am def not impressed. We chose this restaurant because it had good reviews and were extremely disappointed. The food was not tasty at all. I ordered their famous pad thai and it had no taste, no flavor at all. Plus it came with something extra, a long hair in it. I was discussed. In addition to poor food, it had poor service too. The waiters never came to refill the water glasses.
