I used to work in Miramar and this place was always an easy choice for me and my coworkers. Fast, good sized portions and great price! I always go with the chicken, white rice with green onions on top. Yum! I am always on the hunt for the next chicken and rice bowl. I was not disappointed! I ordered two chicken rice bowls and the beef ribs plate. It did take around 15 minutes from ordering to receiving my food but this also meant the food was hot and fresh. The chicken bowls were solid, filling, and flavorful. The surprise star of the show was the rib plate! The meat was juicy, fatty, and fall off the bone. I had a chicken and pork combination . It came with roughly two scoops of rice and chopped cabbage and steamed veggies. The sauce was served on the side. The amount of meat was just right for the portion of rice and veggies but a bit underwhelming. The meat was a bit dry for my liking. With tax and tip came out to just under $15. Long story short, you'd be better off going to Panda Express and getting their teriyaki chicken and sauce. You'd get more chicken, the meat would be juicy, and their sauce is great. My baseline is teriyaki from western Washington. I even worked at a teriyaki restaurant at one point in time. read more

"Bowls To Go" is located in the Miracrest Plaza right behind Carls Jr. It is a little hard to find if you don't know it is there. The restaurant it's self is very small, but does off a little bit of seating. The menu is simple. Beef, Chicken or Pork rice bowls. The portion sizes are good for the price and the food is tasty. I work in the area, so I have come here often and the staff is absolutely wonderful. Lunch hour is busy and parking in this shopping center is small and tight. I reviewed this place back 2013.  Back then I was impressed by the low prices and the good tasting food.  Since then many places have come and gone but Bowl to Go is still here.  I tried my favorite dish the rib plate with drink.   Ribs were chewy and my teeth weren't up breaking down many of the pieces.  I would have used an acidic marinade to break down the meat before cooking.  Nice flavor from the slight char and sauce.  I prefer the ribs at the local Hawaiian plate lunch spots like Island Style Cafe or Homestyle Hawaiian.  Price has gone up from $9.39 to $12.99.  Now it's priced the same as Island Style Cafe. I did enjoy the Barq's Root Beer.  Sweet with a little bite to it. 2nd visit I ordered a beef bowl to go.  Cute lunch size meal for $8.50 including tax.  Rice was moist and had a nice jasmine rice flavor.  Beef was tender and had a delicious teriyaki flavor.   The prices have gone up a bit but the bowls are still a good deal and I like the beef bowl alot.  Staff was friendly and efficient. read more

Let me start by saying that I'm originally from Seattle, home of amazing teriyaki on nearly every corner, and I have been searching for a suitable substitute in San Diego for years. I happened to be driving down Miramar a few months ago and noticed the sign that said teriyaki. I immediately came home and searched Yelp to find this spot. I needed to know if it was going to be comparable to Seattle teriyaki. I discovered three other Yelpers who mentioned Seattle in their review and gave it a thumbs up as being close to what we know in the Northwest as good teriyaki. It took me a couple months to make my way here because the hours aren't great. Like most of Miramar restaurants, they're mainly open during work hours to cater to the business crowds. They close too early in the evenings to plan a dinner here and they're not open past lunch on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays. It's worth the effort to find time to come though. I will definitely be making this a regular stop! The teriyaki sauce is spot on! Thick and sweet and delicious! I couldn't get enough and dumped an extra helping on top of my already soaked beef and chicken. I'm not sure I'd be able to tell the difference between this one and one from Seattle. It was that good! Even the minimalist decor reminded me of the simple Seattle teriyaki shops. Their menu is small but I've always felt that the best teriyaki shops are the ones with basic menus. The teriyaki here is light years better than any Japanese restaurant that serves sushi and better than Surf Brothers, which was the only thing I knew of that was close to teriyaki before but never quite the same. I will be back and I will be spreading the word to anyone who has had the pleasure of eating Seattle teriyaki and misses it in San Diego. read more

It's located in a tiny plaza, and parking can be a bit of a pain (spots and lanes are all quite tight), so plan ahead if you happen to have a giant car. They serve something resembling teriyaki - soy and something marinated chicken/beef/pork, all cooked on a large griddle to give little morsels of meat that are crisp and slightly charred on the outside but still moist and flavorful on the inside. You have the option of getting a bowl or plate (plate being the larger portion), and selection of meat. There is a small salad which actually helps - the change in texture and slight acidity are a welcome break from all the meat and rice. I really enjoy the extra teriyaki sauce that they give since it really helps give that extra bit of hydration and tangy goodness to the combo. Got 2 bowls, 1 beef bulgogi and 1 teriyaki beef. Both bowls were filled with white rice to the top with a side of beef. Bulgogi was almost like ground beef with not too much flavor, where the teriyaki beef was super flavorful, but very hard and chewy. It's more of a to go style place, but they do have a few tables to dine in. Customer service was good. Expect to go in and see multiple bags on the counter for to go orders. read more

I'm not one for putting extra teriyaki sauce on my meal but this one definitely needed more sauce. Rice was, well... rice. I used to spend about a $100 a week at this place when they first open. 7-10 yrs ago. Food and service is excellent as always. No complaints and continently location and the place is inviting. However the portion sizes lately are concerning. $18.95 for a rib plate and it's mostly bone and gristle. Like..what's up with that? Twice this has been the case. Walked my traffic weary body across the parking lot and entered Bowl To Go. The aroma of cooking meat wafted through the air and reminded me I was hungry. Ordered the chicken plate, it came with white rice, coleslaw with dressing and an orange slice. The chicken tasted very tender and was obviously marinated with a rich flavorful sauce.
