Mala Fish Fillet and Curry Beef Dumplings
    Robert N.

No-nonsense Szechuan cuisine. Including one of my favorites, Mala Fish Fillet (also known as Boiled Fish in Hot Chili Oil, sometimes Fish Stew). Spicy hot, numbing and delightful. Curry Beef Dumplings a nice starter. Extensive menu, friendly service.

I'm always looking for a good lunch special at a Chinese restaurant and this one did not disappoint. The Szechuan Garlic Chicken lunch special came with hot and sour soup, fried rice, salad, an eggroll, and a cream cheese wanton. Great value for a lot of food! The fact that they also had spicy mustard along with the sweet and sour sauce also was a huge bonus.

Honey Chicken. Large portion and delicious with a touch of spice.

Lunch specials 11-3pm for $13.95-$$15.95 includes egg drop soup, salad, egg roll and cream cheese wonton. No muss, no fuss. Food was delicious! Service was great as well. Water refills were good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restaurant was not crowded which surprised me but many customers did order food to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Szechuan House services American style Chinese food so if you are looking for an authentic Chinese food experience, this place ain't it. But for American style Chinese comfort food, it's not that bad. I feel the price was a bit expensive for the quality and portion size. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's always plenty of seating and the server will leave you alone once your food is served.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's plenty of parking in the lot.

Great family run business! Hits the spot for sure! The only reason it doesn't get 5 star is the consistency from dining it to getting takeout. The sauce for one of our dishes was watery when it was thick during dine it.

HANDS DOWN BEST AUTHENTIC CHINESE FOOD I'VE HAD IN SD !…read more I'm obsessed and already thinking about my next visit. If I could give this place 10 stars, I absolutely would. What started as a happy accident (spot we originally wanted was takeout only) turned into such a great discovery since they were kind enough to accommodate our group. The vibe when you walk in is so lovely. Place is super spacious with plenty of seating inside and around the table. It has a comfortable, welcoming feel. I also loved the round spinning table it made it so easy to share dishes family style. It's the perfect spot for a small group if you want to split a bunch of plates and keep it budget friendly. They also served tea, which added to the classic sit down experience. We ordered 6 dishes which were all amazingggg and fed all of us, with even leftovers ! I'll list them in order of favorites: 1. Dry-fried string beans - absolute 10000/10 just try them! so much flavor. 2. Orange chicken - sauce was amazing, very thick and flavorful, chicken tasted crispy and delicious. 3. Chow mein w/ beef - super fresh, noodles cooked to perfection ! tasted homemade. 10/10 4. Spi deep-fried fish cumin - my gosh, this one really stood out! I could still taste this absolute goodness. Strong cumin aroma, but not overpowering in flavor. If you like fish but are hesitant about cumin, don't worry, just try it! You might stumble upon a new favorite dish. 5. Fried rice combo - solid and flavorful on it's own, didn't even need soy sauce or chili oil. 6. Garlic crispy pork ribs - still good, but wish the garlic flavor came through more. I barley tasted any garlic. Pieces are bite size w/ some small bones, just be careful. Good, but not my favorite compared to everything else. Honestly, the chow mien and cumin fish go hand in hand in top 3 favorites ! It's so hard to rank because all dishes were great and top tier quality. Service was decent, food came out fast, everything tasted super fresh and had soooo much flavor. I just would've loved more spice, but we added chili oil which helped a lot and was good quality oil.

We also ordered the garlic green beans, but they came out so late that we were already completely full from the noodles, so we took them to go. Thank god we did, because they turned out to be pretty salty on their own and really needed to be paired with white rice at home. Overall, an amazing spot for authentic noodles! I also noticed other tables getting plates and bowls which we had to ask for. Overall, I felt the servers weren't too friendly either and seemed to rush through our table despite them standing around not seeming too busy. The food was excellent though! The soup had a great spice to it and super flavorful. The beef and onion was so juicy and addictive, the green beans were good too and had a slight kick to them.

I haven't been back here till today and I was very disappointed. From what I remember the Chungking style roasted whole fish has always been a whole tilapia fish every time I will order it and I've always loved it. However, today I was very surprised and disappointed to see only half of the fish with mostly bones. What happened to the other half? Even on the menu it says, "Whole Fish", and not half. I feel like I was cheated and lied to. It's $30 for the dish, and to only get half? That's kind of a rip off. I ordered my food for pick up/to go but we ended up eating it at the restaurant at a table outside. They saw us eating there and offered to bring us tea, which was nice but I was confused with the whole fish, what happened to the rest of it? Most of their dish has Szechuan peppers so it's an acquired taste. This is the very first restaurant that I had my first taste of Szechuan cuisine. At first I did not liked it, i only had few bites of my food and I can still remember the weirdness numb feeling after-taste in my tongue, its tingly. It was a very strange taste so I gave it away to a colleague but then seeing her enjoying it so much.... I tried it again, and again, and eventually starts loving it. This restaurant is a hidden gem if you're looking for a delicious Chinese food. One of my favorites are the Chungking style roasted whole fish, it comes with cauliflower and other different veggies with lots of spices. The steamed whole fish with tofu and lots of spices was delicious too. The stir-fry thinly sliced pork with Chinese green onions, was very tasty. They also have a delicious beef noodle soup, the beef was so tender, the broth was rich and I love the bokchoy in it. I love the stir-fry eggplant as well, it's kinda sweet and salty, that was so delicious. I also Love the cumin lamb stir fry... that's fun to eat, I enjoyed that a lot. I really love the steamed pork with preserved mustard too, the pork was very tender and fatty--- I enjoyed that a lot with rice. They have a lot of really tasty and delicious dish here. They serve a lot of good food it'll take my review too long if I'll name it all. They also have cold dish, for $13 you get to choose three different entree where they serve chicken feet, different veggies, lotus root, some cut of pork and beef and etc. I love this restaurant, it's authentic and they are very nice too. The restaurant is beautiful.

I arrived before our party of 7 and they were able to accommodate us by offering two table options. Thoughtful and friendly people work here. Hotpot: What a selection! I loved the mushroom broth, the assortment of fresh veggies from bok choy, romaine lettuce, lots of mushrooms options - my favorite is the enoki, and I loved the tofu skin. Beef lovers and seafood fans will enjoy this place as well. One of my fave items we ordered is a shrimp paste dish for our hotpot. That was delicious. I also love how they have a sauce bar. Snack Bar: I frequented the snack bar. The coconut jelly and coconut crackers is my favorite. They have a lot of snacks to pick from and it's complimentary! Ambiance: This place is gorgeous. Lots of interesting architectural decor. I had a great time capturing photos of the restaurant while I waited for my party to arrive. I'll definitely be coming back and recommending this place.

They also have an extensive sauce/snack/dessert bar with unlimited sesame balls, shrimp chips, and other Chinese desserts which I thought was unique. In terms of the actual hot pot ingredients, they definitely use high quality stuff and have a large variety to pick from! Wontons: This was by far the best dish I had at the restaurant. The spicy sauce had the perfect kick and the dumpling wrappers were thin and soft. The pork was juicy and paired well with the spicy sauce. Pork and Crab Dumplings: These dumplings were unfortunately very mediocre. Some dumplings were gushing with soup while another tin of dumplings were practically dry and lukewarm. The dumpling wrappers were very thick and made up a large amount of the dumpling which was very disappointing. Potstickers: These potstickers were absolutely amazing. The bottom of every single potsticker was crackling and crispy and each potstickers was gushing with soup with each bite. Honey Walnut Shrimp: This was one of the worser dishes I had. The shrimp had a very thick batter which made up 90% of the shrimp and the honey walnut sauce was very hard to taste due to the thickness of the batter and the inconsistency of the spread of sauce. I wasn't super impressed with this restaurant due to the mediocrity of their soup dumplings, however, their other dumpling dishes made up for the experience.
