Tim's the owner and wonderful. He does great work and drills balls on-demand, as well as other adjustments and services. He knows more about what sort of ball you need for your style than you do. Even if you don't buy a ball from the shop, he'll still drill and do engraving on your equipment. Not only is he genuinely interesting and nice, but his bowling experience is extensive. He's excellent at what he does and has bowled 35 perfect games. One thing unique about this shop is that it's located outside the bowling alley entrance. It's not visible from the street but is a gem. The only other person who knew as much or helped me as much was Skip Pavone, who won many PBA tournament and retired, closing his shop in Cupertino in the last year. Tim's who you want to work on your equipment or give you advice. He's just as much as a PBA fan as many of us and has an autographed photo from Wes Mallot on display. Another neat thing is that Tim's customers who visited whilst I was there were also friendly and interesting; lots of good conversation. You'll notice a destroyed bowling ball on-display on the floor, which is a reminder to not leave your bowling equipment in your car. It'd be pretty hard to not have fun visiting Tim's shop. My only regret is not finding him sooner. Another neat observation was Tim appears to have been a journeyman PG&E engineer for many years...surely with many interesting stories. Tim is very knowledgeable and helpful with many years of experience. I recently bought 2 balls from him and it was better deal than ordering online. Reasons listed below. 1. Drill is included if you buy the ball from him. If you bring one bought elsewhere, it's $45 + all the extras such as inserts, etc. 2. If he doesn't have the ball in stock, he can order and get it delivered in 2 business days. If you already have your finger measurement on his record, the ball will be drilled and ready to be picked up usually on the day it was delivered unless he's really busy. 3. Free engraving on the ball, 1 free game (per ball you buy), and 10% discount depends on what you buy. 4. Tim is the most patient and accommodating person I have ever worked with. I started bowling in a league for the first time ever only depending on house balls and what I saw and wanted to do on tv. I was somewhat fortunate enough to have found a 12lb bowling ball in my garage that was a spare ball but due to my lack of knowledge i had no idea. Tim was able to explain exactly what I needed and what weight I needed to use. and I've gone from a 121 avg up to 155 in a span of 3 months bowling once a week with a 10 min warm up. I purchased my bowling ball and immediately went to Tim to get it fitted for me. I'm a complete newbie that has normally thrown a hook using the 2 finger method. I discussed with him wanting to change to the 3 finger method and he helped me weigh out the pros/cons. He fitted everything for me and including finger inserts. It wasn't very busy and I was in and out in under 25 minutes. He was also nice to explain to me how to use my new ball and what lanes it would do well in vs not well in, and how to anticipate the oil etc. oh another important tip he gave, don't put the bowling ball in your trunk to prevent cracking :) read more

I just recently got back into bowling and bought two new bowling balls. One I purchased from Bowler's Edge and the second one from another shop recommended by some folks in my league. I wish I had bought both from Bowler's Edge, as the other one doesn't fit quite as well. When Tim Hinman drilled the ball for me, it seemed very small, but the ball felt so light because it fit my hand well. I've stopped by a couple times to fine-tune the fit, and he always makes the small adjustments for me while I wait. Prices I think are the same as other local shops. The selection isn't huge, but they can order stuff for you that isn't in stock. read more

I've recently got back to bowling again and so much have change over the year. I'm totally at lost when it come to buying bowling ball and shoes. since it's winter and it too cold for golf. I figured I take up bowling as a winter sport. With help from Dave @ Bowler Edge he was able to help me find the right ball, right weight and whatever i might need. So my very first game with the new ball i score 243, i miss my record by 3 pins. Bowler Edge is a small shop right outside of Mission Lane bowl. they don't have a lot of selection, but they have enough things there for you to pick from. If they don't have what you want they can order it for you. The price is pretty cheap compare to anywhere else. If you need help with your bowling selection give them a call. read more

Most helpful, advisedly, and friendly people I have came across in the Bay Area in awhile. Went to 4th st bowling alley to check their store out which opens at 10am. They were not open. Called around and most places open around noon. Found bowlers and the lady their open her shop early so I can purchase my set up. Went with an entry level ball bag and shoes set up which came out to less than $150. Had it drilled and engraved. The gentleman who drilled my ball also gave me pointers and advise that I haven't heard before. Felt the need to pay him for that advise too. Can't write enough or say enough on how smooth and friendly the process went. Would advise anyone to try them out before purchasing your next setup. read more

I wanted to bowl again after years of not bowling. Went back to Tim's shop and got the Motiv Venom Shock. The ball fit my hand like a glove. I didn't have to squeeze the ball which made me have a consistent release when I threw it down the lane. I also got shoes and a bag right then and there. No need to wait and order. Tim has been in this business for a long time and he just keeps getting better at his work. I'm so grateful that there is a guy with the skills and great customer service around the Bay Area. Store is small and my impression of owner was he is smarter than everyone else. In the past i have had some neon thumb tape, and asked if he could get some. He told me he has NEVER seen it before. Came in with my gf and my cousin to find my girl her first bowling ball. Tim was very knowledgable and accomodating. He helped find the best kind of ball for my gf's experience and hand preference. He also gave us some tips on accessories and was able to order the ten lb ball we wanted. Ebonite Cyclone was our best choice for her. i took a class this past semester at my school on bowling and i really liked it, so i picked up bowling as another hobby. after getting my own shoes i needed my own ball. i came here to tim and talked to him about what ball would best fit my style. he was extremely helpful and i ended up getting a brunswick karma. i go to tim for all my bowling needs, he is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. the shop is kind of small, but what do you expect? if he doesn't have what you need, he can always order it for you and it should be done in a matter of days. read more

This is an excellent pro shop which is what makes me think all the bad reviews are from people who can't accept constructive suggestions about their game. Tim is an excellent help and greatly helped me improved my game. No one drills the ball like he does and he will do any adjustments for free afterwards.
