My youngest kids first board. Bob was so nice and this shop has to be supported! Helmed by Bob Schmelzer, an amazing freestyle skateboarder and open since 1997 in downtown SJ. We went in Sunday and were surprised to see all the lights off even thigh they were supposed to be open. We called to see what was happening and Bob left his restaurant and came to open just for our kid! The crazy thing is they were broken into the day before and so glad we could buy some things and help support. He helped us choose good beginner wheels and trucks and expertly helped us cut the grip tape. He even gave my son a mini lesson to get him started before skateboard camp. My office is nearby and I've walked passed this skateboard shop countless times. I had no idea they served coffee until today. I ordered the vanilla latte ($6.25) and I highly recommend it. It was smooth and delicious. It is more expensive than my vanilla latte that I usually get from Starbucks (pure convenience), but if money wasn't a factor I would definitely go here. The barista was friendly and told me that the espresso machine they use cost $2,000+! Conveniently located by the light rail station. Street parking and parking lots are also available. read more

Visited Circle-A again yesterday morning around 10am and street parking was free bc it was Sunday! Circle-A wasn't busy so I was able to walk up to the coffee bar and order right away. The barista was really fast and my vanilla latte was ready in under 5 mins. I will 100% always recommend the vanilla latte from Circle-A! It's my favorite drink here and order it all the time now. I might try the mocha latte one day if I get the chance. Overall, good vibes! It's a pretty quiet shop and a good study area too. Will be back again soon! read more

Personally haven't gotten anything here, but the owner I assume of this shop was really cool. As in like not a jerk, I came one time looking for a cruiser board and there was literally one on the shelf an open Santa Cruz set up. He offered me a discount on it because it was not wrapped or something like that. That's really nice of him to do that. I did feel like I couldn't compare it to anything else in stock so I just kept going my way. At that time the same guy I literally walked in one day wondering when they will open the coffee shop. This review is for the coffee shop part. This is true espresso bar with great quality. I enjoy lighter/medium roast espressos and they have that. They took extra care for making a shot with good solid crema. I recommend this for espressos and keep going back. The staff was welcoming and well serving. There are enough of outside seating. They down side that they close the espresso bar before they close the skate board side. If shop was to close at 6pm then bar closed 3:20pm already. The store hours does not reflect that and could make a trip that does not end with great cup of espresso. read more

Circle A is a great place. I usually get an espresso and a bakery item. I usually browse all the new skateboard decks and parts and usually end up buying something. It's nice to see the real parts because online skateboard parts can be uncertain. Bob and his team are great at welcoming coffee customers and skate customers. read more

I've been coming since high school, but the staff as always been so kind to me! It's right down the street from SJSU, so great for a quick stop before or in-between classes. It's also down the street from a skatepark + plaza (in the heart of sj), so even if I'm not headed to class I can always stop by before skating. Devin always makes my drinks perfect! This review is for the coffee part of this establishment. They serve wrecking ball coffee here which is an outstanding choice of roaster if you ask me. And as far as I know the only cafe in the valley where you can find wrecking ball. The space is really cool too. It's one half of a skateboard shop with transparent walls in the middle of a Paseo in downtown San Jose. So all the comfort of being warm indoors while feeling like being out on the street with people walking by. Extra points for top notch music selection. One nit is they stop serving espresso based drinks at 4pm. Hopefully they can extend that by atleast an hour. Another suggestion would be to also add a good chocolate purveyor for some more drink options to the menu. read more

I was in town for the WWDC Apple conference and happened upon this spot. The coffee here is really excellent. They use a Califia milk that is non-dairy based and is a near dead ringer for the real taste of milk! Suddenly Lattes are accessible to vegans and the lactose intolerant. One more thing, this place is run by non other than Bob Schmelzer the famous pro skater! He's a kind soul with a lot of great stories and knowledge. I had a great experience here today ordering a tea. While passing by the post office, I wanted a chai latte, and remembered CircleA had a coffee bar attached. I've bought skates here before. Top notch service. When I asked the barista for a chai latte on ice, they said they would happily work out how to make it for me, even though it wasnt specifically on the menu. My tea was expertly brewed, the barista added oat milk, and then poured over ice. This tea was not sugared, which I requested, and I really enjoyed it. This is a great spot to pick up drinks. I was really disappointed with my experience. I spent 70 dollars on a skateboard deck only to have it break in 2 days on a warm up trick. I've been skating for 5 years and have never seen something like this happen. I'm not heavy either(roughly 130 pounds). I went in to the shop hoping to get a replacement deck or at least some money back but was told that nothing could be done. Horrible customer service. read more

Love this skateboard and coffee duo! A unique staple that perfectly sits on this paseo. There is street parking on the side which is a hit or miss! The workers here are incredibly kind and not to mention the owner who really do be the kindest! I got a skateboard and some gifts here and Bob(the owner) helped set the board up. He was also very helpful and knowledgeable on everything! As for coffee, I got a cortado with Oat and an oatmeal cookie and the barista who helped me was very nice! A great place really. Coffee is great has a nice taste to it that makes it stand out from other places, another unique thing is that they only use non dairy milk. So oatmilk and almond milk, and usually non dairy milks are much more difficult to make latte art and get the right consistency but man the baristas are so good they get it perfect every time. I usually get a cortado and thats just wonderful and recently they added matcha lattes to the list. My favorite place to take a friend for a chat so far. read more

I needed a cup of either hot coffee or iced coffee as I normally get up at 7:30am for school (first class starts at 10:30am). I freaked out when I realized that it's 7:40am; I rushed to get dressed but forgot to comb my hair. Still tired, once I get to school, I went searching for coffee. There was this woman named Jesse insisted that I tried their coffee. Even though, I was going to try their coffee anyways since I'm curious on what they have on their menu. I ordered an Iced Vanilla Latte in which I added three packets of sweetener. The woman who took my order, she was very nice and friendly. When I need coffee on TTH (Tuesday/Thursday), I would definitely come back here because their Iced Vanilla Latte is pretty good and I wanted to try a different drink next time. read more

Originally I wanted to go to Philz but it was super crowded so I looked up local coffee shops nearby and figured I should support a small business instead. I can't speak for their skateboards, but my iced latte with almond milk was really delicious. Strong, smooth, flavorful espresso (even though I drink coffee every day, I struggle to describe it evocatively and I don't have a super sophisticated palate.. so this is the best I can do). What an amazing experience. My kids 9 & 13 wanted skateboards for Christmas and our neighbor told us about Circle A. We could not have picked a better place to go. Not only did the kids pick awesome boards but the owner Bob is such a great guy giving us such an insightful walk through the skate world in San Jose. He is such a down to earth guy who has had his business in San Jose for over 2 decades. You won't find a better place to get a new board, first board or learn anything you want to know about skateboarding. So glad we had the experience, not just making the purchase. My kids were in awe the whole time he put their boards together and every stop we made that day they got out of the car to ride their skateboard. They couldn't wait to get home and ride. This is by far one of the best local skate shops in San Jose. Bob is always so knowledgeable super friendly and has awesome stuff at his store. His skateboard selection is probably one of the coolest. Remember when I would skate hard-core this will be the place to go but now that I'm older I like to go for the coffee. Shoe collection is quite the satisfactory. Love that you can see almost everything from the outside, but it still makes you want to come in. I don't know if Bob still does it, but they do alot of shoe releases. Good shit like SBS or limited edition Adidas. Stuff that people wait outside overnight for. Quite an improvement from it's old location across from Ben and Jery's. Circle A has a lot of products to offer. However, it's kind of cramped. I've seen a couple of items that are just not moving. A sweater that's been in the same rack for a year! Customer service is friendly. And the owner Bob is pretty awesome and really knows his stuff. He's pretty fair and does not sell just to make money. He once refused to sell a pair of SBs to a girl who was just buying to profit because he wanted to make sure that someone who really wanted the shoes would get them. That's pretty dope. He sells boards, skate videos, accessories, etc. None of that 10 Deep, Crooks and Castles stuff. Strictly skating is his deal. read more

Love visiting this shop, it is a San Jose must! Circle-A has a great selection of skateboard decks, gear, apparel and shoes. They have the coolest staff and a really great atmosphere - always playing great music. We bought our daughters' first skateboards here and they were nothing but accommodating and friendly. The cafe part of the shop is pretty awesome too. Really great tasting (and strong!) coffee and delicious pastries. Bob did an incredible job with his coffee bar; haven't been in since it was under construction. The aesthetics and coffee itself were top-notch. Ordered a 1&1 and Lucas killed it with the shot and with milk. Truly an underrated spot for coffee. As we were leaving Bob apologized for not wearing a mask as he's been in and out, concerned for us since we had masks on.
