It looks like I'm not the only one who has been taken back by the owners reactive behavior...I used to come here all the time and never had a problem but today I came to the window to order 15 minutes before they closed. The owner was walking out the door and abruptly stated that they were closed at 3. With confusion, I simply commented that it was 245pm and he brushed me off and while walking away angrily commented "yeah well, we are short staffed" I was stunned,I have never been brushed off like that as a customer. Naturally I'll never come back here and I'll be sure to spread the word. After reading the other comments (I am a mental health counselor) I'm concerned that he has an untreated mental health disorder and it's just a matter of time before things escalate. This is my second time coming here and I've ordered a coffee and then this time I ordered a smoothie. The coffee I had was really good however pretty overpriced. I recently tried the spirit 59 smoothie and there was no taste whatsoever. The only thing I could kind of taste was the spinach. It was a bummer because I couldn't even taste any fruit or sweetness. Best Breakfast in Santee I absolutely love this little restaurant!! The menu and staff are AMAZING!! After hiking Mission Trails this is my go to spot to refuel. While eating the staff chatted with me, explaining the menu and sharing their favorites. The vibe is super fun and cool. I ordered the savory B & B toast, it was topped with fresh avocado, Himalayan salt, cracked pepper, crushed pistachios and sliced hard boiled egg. This was so satisfying. I also had the sweet Waffle Toast, it was a perfectly sweetened waffle toast topped with fresh berries mixed with natural syrup and a very little bit of cream. Each bite had me wanting more! The service. I had a long morning of errands and I was almost home and realized I needed avocados. I figured since they have avocados I could buy them there instead of going to vons or sprouts. (I live a block away from this place) I stopped by and asked if I could buy an avocado and the younger girl wearing a UCSD jacket was like "um what? Buy an avocado? That's WEIRD" and I was like " uh you could just say no, I had a long morning doing a lot of errands and thought I could just stop by h-" She precedes to cut me off and turn to her coworker and say "she wants to buy an avocado isn't that WEIRD" and the man/manager/boss says yeah of course she can. And she's like whatever it's weird. I'm happy they were able to accommodate me but at that point, I didn't even want the avocados anymore because this chick made me feel like a freak for wanting one of their products. This review is based solely on the behavior of what I assume is the owner. He is frightening, aggressive with irrational behavior. I am still trying to process what happened this morning. I called in spoke to a polite young lady. I intended to place an order for an avocado toast before heading to work. When I found out it would take 25 minutes, I politely declined and told her that it did not work. No problem, no worries. We both bid each other a good day. The order was never placed. To my dismay, a guy (the owner) called me back a few minutes later asking if I was the person that called to place an order for Avocado toast. He then started berating me, asking how long do I think Avocado toast takes to make? And I am the reason all small businesses fail. How dare I call and have expectations on a hectic holiday weekend. He continued on & on. I sat there processing what he was screaming at me. After he was done with his tyrant, he hung on me. I am left stunned of how inappropriate a business owner would conduct himself in this aggressive manner. His behavior is not ok. I feel for his employees; I can only imagine what they have to go through. With all due respect for being so busy. You certainly have a lot of time on your hands to feel the need to make harrassing calls. There is clearly more going on here. Your businesses undoing will clearly be because of YOUR mental instability--nothing else. Mental issues are real, and I do not take this behavior lightly. I hope you get the help you need. Refreshing and Delicious! You can tell this place takes pride in their service and not just another 'chain' coffee stop. First time i ordered in person and the girl was super helpful in recommending a drink based off of how i like my drinks (slightly sweet and bold). I got the Almond Bear Brew. Very yummy and different than anything ive had. They also recommend the Waffle Toast with Berries...Holy Cow!! Way bigger than i was expecting and Amazing!! Definitely worth the price. 2nd time i tried ordering ahead and was ready sooner than stated. Got the Something Awesome and was just as good if not better! Amazing. There is really no other adjective that describes this place. I'm not a big health foods guy, but I heard about this place through a friend and decided to try it out one day while I was in the neighborhood. I'm full of joy that I decided to drop in. The coffee is great, the lemonades are a refreshing take on an old summer staple, and the bowls are divine. I ordered two bowls and the only thing I regret about it is that I couldn't eat both! Honestly, it seems like one bowl has got plenty of fruit and other goodness to keep you satisfied, AND hit most major food groups. My partner and I eat here on a regular basis, and the food never disappoints. I'm not a huge fan of the açaí sorbet that is used at Jamba or Everbowl, so Bowls and Brews is my favorite place to get my açaí fix. The owner is incredibly nice. My friend raved about this place and since I was out this way decided to give it a go since I'm trying to make healthier food choices. First, I arrive to discover you can only order through their website so now I had to sit in my car for 15 minutes to wait. I can understand if that's a new practice they're trying to implement but take the order from your customer and let them know next time to please order through the website. Ordering through the website you can't sub stuff. I wanted to get Fire in the Bowl without mangos and instead get blueberries. I could only select no mangos and then pay extra for blueberries. Second, I get my order and I'm somewhat disappointed by the size for a $10 bowl BUT the fruit looked fresh so got over that. Then I dig in ready for some delicious to get a huge taste of banana (I definitely didn't order banana). So I take it up and ask about the bananas because nothing was mentioned on the website about bananas being used in the base. They informed me they use banana in their acai base. "I don't want bananas." They said we can't do that; everywhere you go uses bananas (mostly true but you can request no bananas). He asked if i am allergic (really shouldn't matter; if I don't want bananas I don't want bananas). I have an intolerance to them. They insisted they couldn't do without bananas because of the consistency it said they could make me a different base. So we settled on Pitaya. You would think at this point they would inform me of what they use in the Pitaya base. Nope. Lastly, they give me the new Pitaya base but I, myself, had to transfer over all my toppings (basically just the strawberries, blueberries, and peanut butter because all the granola was covered in the acai banana base). It would have been nice it they just made me a new bowl entirely but I was hungry by this point and just wanted my bowl plus is was probably a good thing that I did because I was able to pick all the stems off the blueberries that they hadn't gotten. In the end, I ended up paying $10 (plus tip) for blueberries, strawberries, and blueberries because they Pitaya base apparently has pineapple juice in it, which I also don't like. read more

I don't do reviews of places but after my horrendous experience this morning I felt the need to warn everyone of the Horrible customer service. I've been to this place many times before and have always been treated with kindness and a smile, today a man was working whoever he was was extremely rude & just a straight up a**hole. Honestly I'm extremely disappointed that such a good place has such horrid employees, telling customer to "learn how to tip" when you give them horrible service is beyond words. Especially as he keeps telling it at me as I walk to my car, literally keeps telling it. Someone should be taught how to treat customers. Bad service = no tip. Why would you tip someone for being rude to you at 8am? Great coffee & Acai bowls but be prepared to be harassed for a tip when one isn't deserved. As someone who worked in the restaurant industry Im always willing to tip & am very understanding when they are busy. But the attitude I received today was not needed whatsoever. After reading through reviews it seems all the 5 star ones are for old management which is true. I miss old management they were very kind and had great employees. Tried for the first time this weekend and it was so good!!! Tried their Fire in the Bowl, which was so yummy. They were so generous with the creamy peanut butter enjoyed everything on it. Got the larger size which was too much, ate half and saved the rest for lunch. Açaí was so yummy, as were all the toppings. Can't wait to try them again!! Over priced slow service... and now online ordering only! I was very excited when this place opened up. There isn't a lot of good coffee in East county and even fewer healthy options. Santee is about a 15-20 minute drive for me but it's worth it for good coffee/food. I have been here a few times and each time the service is insanely slow. MINIMUM of 20 mins each time, even when I'm the only person there. By contrast, Kaffee Meister across the street or Lean Bean down the road can get you a fresh acai bowl and latte in under 5. The prices are also a little ridiculous for what you get, but I understand that is the price you pay for good quality, organic, fresh, etc. All of the above being said, I decided to give this another go on a Saturday morning when I had some spare time to wait. I checked out their yelp and website to make sure they were open during the pandemic (even though restaurants are now open for seating, you just never know). The website said they were open and even mentioned something about quarantine so I knew it had been updated recently. No other instructions or mentioning a change in hours or business. I drive 20 minutes there, go up to their outdoor order window and...... I'm told they're only taking online orders so I have to leave, go order on their website, and come back when it's ready. What? I understand not wanting people to linger around but I can't even order in person and go sit in my car?? Even mid-shutdown that business practice makes no sense. But regardless, if that's your policy, WHY ISNT IT ON THE WEBSITE?? Luckily, Lean Bean is still business as usual so the whole trip to Santee wasn't a complete waste. But now you have been warned!! I have never experienced anything even close to this. I ordered through Uber Eats and noticed shortly after my order was cancelled. I called the store and a man answered the phone who was aggressive right out the gate. He started yelling at me because I modified the order to request "no honey". He said "I don't do modifications and if you ever do that again I won't make your order..." He was screaming at me over the phone. I was absolutely shocked and speechless. It was threatening honestly. When I started to talk he hung up the phone. I thought I would call back the next day. And speak with management or the owner. I called today and the same man answered the phone. I asked to speak with a manager or owner and he immediately got angry and asked who I was and what I wanted. I tried to explain it was regarding an incident that occurred the day before, he LOST it. Like... LOST it. He told me "I dare you to come down here.." Like...? Literally all that came out of my mouth was asking for the owner. He finally said HE WAS THE OWNER. At this point there is nothing I can do. Lol. I wish I could report this business somewhere, but I guess Yelp will have to do. It is a shame because this place used to be great. I stopped here for the first time today. It's a very cute little shop, and was very clean. I also love the paint job on the outside. Good job guys. :) The color of the menu is very vivid and easy to read. Love it. The staff (owners) were very friendly. I was more than happy to see a keto coffee option!! I asked for the ingredients and he was happy to show me what goes into the coffee (keto butter, and almond vanilla creamer). Finally a unique coffee option with no sugar. It's yummy! Prices are average and comparable to other coffee shops. I want to try their ginger's revenge next. I will be back for my keto coffee before work.
