It seems the owner has come unhinged again... my husband loves this place and would get it 2-3 times a week. Often he orders from Uber eats during the week as he is working and can't go pick it up. On the weekend though he orders through the website and we will go pick it up. I went to go pick up today because I am off work and the owner straight up YELLED at me. Saying we order on Uber eats too much and that the tip my husband left was not enough and was disrespectful. I was so shocked I just said "okay I'll let him know" but once I left it sunk in what had just happened. This man aggressively yelled at a pregnant woman who was there by herself with her toddler and no one else was around. Needless to say don't worry about us orderring on Uber eats or not getting a big tip any more we will NEVER come back again. And I promise none of our friends or family will either. Just for added effect my husband was spending about $30 every order! That was loyal reliable income for this guy and he just threw it away. I have come to bowls and brews 10+ times and honestly, its only because there isn't anywhere else to get a smoothie. I have tried quite a few of the coffees available here and I must say the Mexican mocha and the Vietnow brew are a close tie for my favorite drinks here! The girl that took our order for 2 acai bowls was very sweet, but when we asked if there was gluten free granola a man that I assumed was the owner popped his head out and replied, "Yes, for and extra two dollars and 50 cents." We were told it would be 15 minutes. It took around 45 minutes. They tasted fine as bowls go, but At 13.75 a piece, plus an extra 2.50 for a scoop of granola and the 45 minute wait...It's doubtful I'd make a return visit. read more

This is some of the worst customer service I have ever had. The owner was rude from the very beginning for no reason. He had left me waiting a long time before even taking my order, which I was understanding about. He added extra charges that weren't posted on the menu, but I went with it. He also said if I ordered the build your own acai bowl (which was an option on the menu), he wouldn't fill it to the top. He told me the wait would be long to get my order, and I was fine with that. However, then he took someone's order after I had been waiting for a long while and prepared theirs before mine. At this point, I was done. I just calmly asked for my money back, since he hadn't even started making mine yet. He was so rude about it. He yelled at me. I told him I would be writing a negative Yelp review, and he yelled even more and started making excuses. I am not a coffee person so I can't speak on their coffee drinks, but their smoothies are great and their waffle with berries on top is legitimately one of the best things I've ever eaten! I also really like that you can order online and pick it up. My one star downgrade is because the last time I was there they had the music inside turned up SO loud! This business has changed names and ownership since my last review. This particular location has hosted a wide variety of different businesses over the years. Hopefully, the current one will stay - longer than many of those before it. As the name suggests, the menu includes various fruit and granola bowls, smoothies, munchies, and and now coffee. Cold drinks come in plastic cups. You will be asked if you prefer a paper or plastic straw - which seems sort of silly since there is far more plastic in one cup than in many many straws. The bowls, lids, and spoons used are also plastic. But if you really care about straws, they offer metal ones for sale. Instead, just try "Sumthing Great". They also offer a rewards program of "7 points toward $7 off a future purchase" if you text a code. read more

The quality of the food is pretty good. The service from the owner can be terrible depending on his mood. Looking at the other reviews here it looks like i'm not alone in that. I went back and looked at my bank statements. Since March of 2023 to Aug 2023, I have visited Bowls N Brews 32 times. As of late becoming a regular and spending on average $21.38 per visit. Usually this is a large Acai bowl and a large cold brew. Two visits ago my food and drink was delivered to me somewhat passive aggressively but today I got a verbal lashing from the owner. Straight up yelling at me about tipping. He expects a regular to tip. He said "Help me pay my people" but also saying he doesn't "need the money". Yelling at me to "tip at least a dollar so I can help my people". If I tipped $1 for every time I have been here I would have contributed a whopping $32 over 5 months. The prices are already pretty high for the product but evidently someone does need the money because other negative reviews here mention him yelling about tips. The end of this conversation was "if you cant tip then go somewhere else". my response was "okay i'll go somewhere else". As i'm walking back to my car he is staring at me through the window yelling "he says he'll go somewhere else" followed by maniacal laughing. It's sad to see how unhinged he can get but I really feel for the coworkers who have to deal with that behavior. Judging from the other reviews I am not the first to deal with this. This is hands down the best place to get Acai bowls in East County, and I haven't found a better place anywhere in San Diego. The same can be said for smoothies. I never drink green smoothies, unless they are from here. The menu is fully customizable but every item is crafted so excellently that there is no need to. I love that their ice coffee is cold brew (I need the strong stuff ha) & this is the first place I've seen that has a keto cold brew I know a good handful of people that will appreciate that. I tried several things my first visit there today and absolutely loved all of them!! BnB toast was so flavorful and the oatmeal bowl was filled with tons of healthy ingredients. My husband and niece tried the waffle toast and both said it was fantastic. Also, my husband and I ordered the caramel brew and both agreed it was the best iced coffee we'd ever had! Lastly, the location was good, parking wasn't crowded, and they even had a small seating area with tables and a pitcher of fresh fruit infused water for you to drink outside if your thirsty. *Had the Thai tea here a while back... Tasted like pure water and I was super excited to have another place that sells coffees and teas. I ordered the Thai, my mother ordered a coffee, and my father ordered a chai. Firstly, the Thai was watery, bland, and not worth the money. Secondly, my mom ordered the coffee she was gross and bland as well. Lastly, the Chai SO MUCH CAFFEINE! Like I tasted a tiny sip and bam you can taste all the caffeine they use. I rarely ever write reviews, but this place deserves it. I'm a coffee snob and have some food intolerances such as vanilla and dairy, making it difficult to find quality coffee that doesn't taste like dirt. I started coming here a little over a year ago, and I still have yet to find a better coffee shop! The employees are SO welcoming and make you feel special by remembering you- something I don't see often from other coffee shops. They have not once messed up my order and everything I've had tastes SO GOOD. It always feels like a Saturday here due to the positive energy and upbeat music. And as a nutrition student, finding a good coffee shop that serves organic and fresher, cleaner ingredients AND isn't all the way out in La Jolla or Downtown is a major plus. I've seen a lot of businesses come and go on this corner, but I'm pretty certain this one will stay . Honestly if it weren't for studying at other indoor coffee shops, I wouldn't go anywhere else.
