Box Lunch is a series of stores that sell fun products for pop culture enthusiasts. I have been here throughout the years mostly to take inventory of the quirky items inside. It was a stroll for the curious. And sometimes I ended up buying a trinket. Like this one time, I bought an Alice in Wonderland coffee cup that became my daily coffee cup. And for those who are a daily coffee drinker they know one knows the contemplation and research that goes into picking the perfect cup. Science may one be able to explain why selecting a coffee cup is a matter of almost cosmic importance. When the coffee was done, the inside bottom- of my Alice in Wonderland cup- had this black and white optical illusion that suggested that the cup's bottom continued down an infinite hole, like the one the white rabbit fell through. Drinking the coffee to its last drop allowed me to see the optical illusion and briefly remember Alice's journey to Wonderland. And for a second remember that adventure is just down a hole that I may encounter sometime throughout the day, if not in the weekend. Eventually, the mug's handle broke in a shipping accident, and on that day the Cheshire Cat eyes teared up a little bit. I share the above anecdote to spotlight the type of product that can be purchased in these stores--- the type of items that are functional but mostly remind us to smile on the daily and daydreams of worlds where we can escape to and be wrapped in adventure. I for one need as many reminders to smile around me because I tend to remember the real world is full of pain and limits. The above was the broad value of BoxLunch. On this particular day, I went to BoxLunch to purchase a token of appreciation for my friend Conrad who is a StarWars fan, and May the 4th was near. The person who helped me first was named Faith. I introduced myself as Buffy. She said nice to meet you Buffy. I asked if she got the joke. She said no. I told her that the joke not landing was particularly harsh as I remember buyig a mock yearbook from a BoxLunch store, so if there was ever a time to meet a Faith was in BoxLunch sacred pop culture fertile ground. Faith and other employees were helpful and attentive. As I walked around, I took stock of all to see, until I found a shirt with baby Yoda that was cotton and cream. This was the shirt that I would get. And for myself I got a dress shirt with an Aladdin and Genie print. I could wear it to Disneyland but I think it is professional looking enough to wear it to some light cocktail party, and maybe it is tucked in, I can wear it to a professional setting. But that is a maybe. Fun and joyous prints and emblems have a time and place, and professional environments might not be the place. This place confirms what everyone knows already--- these stores are meant to be a romp of fun, where you buy items for the fun of it, and if one is lucky the object can be used in some functional way. read more

Shoutout to Justine and Christian for above and beyond customer service and also for just being genuinely friendly and welcoming. I picked up an online order in store and proceeded to browse the Funko Pop shelves. I found a Marvel Rivals Peni Parker and Justine kindly brought over a ladder to bring it down from the top shelf. She also recalled seeing a Psylocke previously too. She confirmed they had one in stock and she literally went through each shelf until she found it for me. No one has ever helped me look that throughly for a Funko Pop before. I was and am completely impressed and grateful. Thank you Justine! Christian was awesome at checkout. He helped me redeem a 25% coupon and informed me of future sales and coupons as well. Overall very impressed and happy with this experience. Left the store with a smile on my face. BoxLunch is a fun store with a lot of branded items, like Sanrio, Disney, Squid Game, and more. It reminds me a little of Hot Topic, but less grunge and more Disney/happy vibes. I used to really like this location, but when I went in today, things were a bit chaotic. I saw things on the floor, falling off the shelves, etc. It could have just been an extra busy day, but I would have thought for a smaller store, it would be a bit more organized. Also, maybe it's again due to the merchandising, but this location felt a little overwhelming to me. It's a smaller store and it was packed with merchandise...maybe too much. It wasn't very visually appealing to me. I do however love all the Loungefly bags..they have a great selection. Also, they always are having sales throughout the store for clothing and accessories. Site was very well stocked with many great items to choose from!! I had come in to see what was available as I had not planned on making a purchase. The employees were very attentive and even asked my group if we had signed up for rewards and to check what discounts we had available. We only walked half the store. I had a few items to think about purchasing in the future. There's only so much Jack Skellington you can buy before it's too much. I didn't get to see any Loki items so that was a bit of a bummer. Have stopped by this location a few times and I'm always impressed by how well-organized and clean it is considering the high volume of patrons coming through Spectrum. I love that I can always find some cute and unique Disney merch here. I got a shirt and sweaters for Valentines Day/Sweethearts Nite and I get sooo many compliments on them when I wear them in the parks. It can get kind of expensive (even more so than the park merch), but they usually have a promo going on and during one of my recent visits a staff member gave me a coupon before checking out. I also love the mission they have to donate meals to those who are food insecure so it feels good to support them. read more

This is a very cute and interesting store at the Irvine Spectrum mall where I wandered around today. I forgot to do my Yelp check in because I was so enamored with all of the exciting candy and novelty items and wanted to buy some but didn't have time to wait in line. Terrible inventory system, canceling the "free" part of "buy two, get one free" orders after the other two items have shipped or been picked up. Not allowing stores to ship an item to a customer, when you can actually buy an item from their website for in-store pickup is stupid! If they can bag it up for me, they should be able to package it for FedEx or UPS to pickup and ship - Gymboree was doing that 15+ years ago. It's not complicated. Then their customer service will say they cannot see what inventory is available in stores. If not, then how can I order off the website from a specific store, for in-store pickup? This store also gets borderline scammy with their "box lunch money" coupons. You earn them per every $40 spent, at a rate of $20 per $40. When you go to spend them, they cannot be used on many items, including most licensed products, and then much of their merchandise is priced so you'll be just shy of being able to use a second coupon unless you buy another item. For example, bags that are priced at $79.90, so you can only use one $20 coupon instead of two. That's just BS stuff to do, and it affects how people view your company, and how much money they will spend in your store. I have at least 10 box lunch money coupons that will go to waste soon, since I can't use them for anything. read more

Worst online ordering experience ever. I submitted an order, did not get a confirmation email and the items still showed in my shopping cart. I figured I made a mistake and didn't "submit" the order, so I hit submit again. Now I have duplicate orders of the same items because of their app did mot clear my shopping cart or send an email confirmation, and they say they can't do anything about it even though neither the original or duplicate order has shipped. SHOP THEIR APP AND WEBSITE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Also the worst customer service. They will claim they cannot do anything once an order is processed, and will even lie in their responses. read more

I've been to a few box lunch locations and this surprisingly is my least favorite. The store was more of a mess than other lunch box spots I've been to. A bit pricey for their stuff, but it's a fun little shop where you can find memorabilia or items from your childhood. They've got a lot of Loungefly backpacks here as well as Funko Pop, wallets, shirts, fun character jewelry, etc. I believe they have a perks program or you can collect dollars to use for future purchases. We always visit this shore every time we go to the Spectrum. The staff have always been helpful and friendly. read more

Located in the Irvine Spectrum, this store is fun for anyone who enjoys popular or cult television shows and movies or all things Disney. A smattering of anime stuff is also on the shelves. The merchandise seems to change as certain films are released or as specific shows get "hot" on social media or in the entertainment media. There are a large amount of shirts but also a variety of other items that are branded with images or catch phrases. Some of the shows/movies I recall immediately are Harry Potter, Dumbo, Dr. Who, Friends, Star Wars, various Marvel characters (heavy on the Captain Marvel stuff right now), Lord of the Rings, Rick and Morty, Lilo & Stitch and dozens more Disney & Pixar classics. Also something called Kingdom Hearts, which I was unaware of until now, that combines Disney characters with anime. It was really fun to browse here and I saw several things I will come back to purchase as gifts but this time left with a single shirt for my nephew's birthday. read more

Worse website to order items. bought a shirt on 1/18 for in store pick up. Didn't get any update till 1/21 telling me they canceled it all the sudden because it was out of stock. when I bought it was in stock and they took my money rights away for it. now it's out stock and have to wait 5-7 days to get my money back. this places is a joke, they don't care about their customers or about making it right. Purchased some Pokemon Christmas Ornaments from their website. Item shipped in a bag. The box was destroyed during shipment. Company responded with "We are sorry to know that you recived (misspelled on a generic response e-mail) a damaged box. Instead of just ordering my items on Amazon, I decided to go in and do some physical shopping in hopes of finding some items for my partner and maybe some stuff that I liked as well. I was pretty excited to take a look around but that quickly changed when I was met with two of the rudest, most unhelpful employees I have ever had the misfortune of shopping with. Their attitudes when I would ask questions or ask for assistance was nothing short of disrespectful. They were very combative and generally seemed like they would rather be anywhere else. I didn't catch their names, but it was today 10/28 around 6-7pm. I think I'll just stick to Amazon from now on. read more

What an awesome store! Yvette (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) help me out while I was shopping around. It was my first visit and she let me know that it was a sister store to Hot Topic, honestly love this store a lottttttt more. More of the pop culture kind of stuff. They had an amazing sale, tees and tanks for $10 and the jackets and sweaters were 50% off the lowest ticketed price. Also, anything under $10 was buy 2, get 1 FREE! The variety was great! Comic book character based items, Sailor Moon, Sanrio, Disney, Overwatch, Stranger Things, etc. I had a blast looking around and seeing what they had. I became a loyalty member (free) where I can earn points and even use the rewards program online. I spent about $80 for a lot of items and got two $15 coupons to use at a later date. I also donated $1 and got this really cool box holder to hold onto everything. I can't wait to come back! read more

Fantastic customer service. I had an online order that was ready for pickup. I believe they give you one week to pick up your merchandise. Well, that one week passed and I was unable to pick up my item. They called me and gave me a week extension. The same thing repeats for several weeks. I finally picked up my item. They probably called me about four times to pick up this one item, which I very much appreciated. Justin and the associates there are doing a fantastic job. Thank you so much. I love it soooo much!!! I'm a huge merchandise collector and I came across the store and was shocked! They had sooo much merchandise, and the employees were so so nice to us, they showed us where things were and they had a huge selection of things. Hardly anything was out of stock and it was filled. I pre-ordered an item in April 2024, the item was supposed to ship by October 5, 2024. I had to ask them why the item had not shipped yet on October 7, 2024 and was told that the shipping would be delayed until late November, early December. Today, October 16, 2024, I received an email from Boxlunch saying that they canceled my order and didn't give me a reason why. It just said it could be one of four things. Very poor customer service and I will never ever pre-order anything or shop at Boxlunch again. read more

They are like Hot Topic's sister store, only less "gothicy" and more main stream. Like Disney, Harry Potter, Gilmore Girls, Blues Clues, and such. Pretty pricey, but there stuff is super cute! I also love how they carry childrens clothes. Would only recommend that you shop there on pay day! :) read more

I visited the Friday of Memorial Day 2021 weekend and experienced great customer service from Cassandra (who also goes by Casey), apologies if I spelled it incorrectly! I love coming to BoxLunch to get cute and unique anime accessories and clothes. I was looking for Sailor Moon and Fruits Basket merch and they were able to assist me by checking for stock in the back and online. It was a super busy night for BoxLunch and they were also limiting capacity. Casey and her fellow coworkers did a great job at managing the crowd but also tending to customer needs and questions. Recently during the 2020 black friday sales i was able to order a few items and pick them up in store. I especially like the fact that you can get an additional 15% with in store pick up on top of the sale price. I found the process of in-store pick to be very easy. The only thing i didnt like was the fact that when i got to the store to pick up my items, two were not in stock when it showed up as available when i bought them online. Luckily after doing a little searching in the store i was able to find the two missing items and the sales person honored my online price. Overall i like the fact that Box Lunch has different items that you dont necessarily find other places like Hot Topic even though they carry many of the same franchises. read more

The people who work at box lunch are very nice, but its the store that genuinely sucks so bad and is extremely greedy, i went to the one in the stonebriar mall, out on a movie trip and we bought a couple things there which costed more than 100 bucks for pajama pants and nails, i understand things are overpriced but thats not what bothered me, i got box lunch money (2 for 20 dollars) and i was planning on buying a gift for my boyfriend but the box lunch money doesn't allow you to use two at a time and the shipping is incredibly high, you have to buy 60 dollers worth of stuff for free shipping, then you have to buy up to 40 dollers to even use the 20 dollers off, so regardless i would have to pay 30 dollers of my own money, im not cheap but what is the 20 dollers off really helping me with? at that point i could go in store and buy the normal price. This store is so pathetic and i dont know how they still have business read more

Last night we visited the Irvine BoxLunch location they close at 10pm and because our maps took us the wrong way we got there at 09:55pm. As soon as I walked in the employee in front told me, "We're closed" and I said, "Okay it's 09:55pm can I at least look around since there's still other customers inside", and she said "no they're cleaning up". So I asked what her name was and she said, "What?" I go, "What was your name I'm sorry?", she paused and said "Valentina!" then walked away. So I come up front to ask for a manager and Courtney after helping other customers politely apologized after explaining to her what happened. I found out her real name was "Angelina" I knew she made a name up the moment she told me. I was just trying to look for a backpack because the BoxLunch near me had it out of stock. I wasn't even trying to stay longer than 5 minutes. What if it was someone from corporate? It would've been bad for Miss Angelina and affect her co-workers, who by the way apologized to me but she didn't. I hope she really got a talk that won't make her go about how she did with me. I get how working customer service is and how wanting to go home asap is priority, but Angelina's attitude was a big no no. read more

I ordered 2 Squishmallows on backorder back in February 2022, expected to ship October 2022. They never did. I spoke to a customer service rep in February 2023, who told me they were expected to ship by end of Feb. Well, they just now CANCELED my order. They re-released the same Squishmallows in store AND sent them out to some who had ordered. It is freaking ridiculous and so unprofessional to offer them in stores, but cancel backorders that were LITERALLY made an ENTIRE year ago. Boxlunch should be ashamed of themselves. read more

This is a nerds haven. If you are a card carrying member of a major fandom, this is your accessory and apparel haven. They have so many major fandoms covered here including: Bob's Burgers, Rick and Morty, al the Disney you could want (Pixar, Stitch, classics, etc.), Star Wars, Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Marvel, DC, Pusheen, GoT, Nickelodeon classics, Studio Ghibli, Nintendo, and more. We were able to get a special of buy three get 30% off. And even when they didn't have the size shirt we needed, a wonderful employee called, found us the size at the Santa Ana store, and even had them honor our 30% off for that purchase. They didn't haven't have to do that, but it is super appreciated that they did. If you need to nerd out for an event or just represent the nerd in you, I recommend you check this place out. read more

Placed a preorder in June for the loungely coco mini backpack that was estimated to be delivered late July. In mid July they were selling the backpacks their website, but pushed my preorder shipping date back to November. I emailed saying if my items wasn't shipping until November to cancel my order. My order was then canceled. I emailed again to ask why this happened, and my email was ignored. The backpack is in stock at the moment of writing this, so why my order was pushed to November is beyond me, and they won't tell me why. I'm not sure how buying 'in stock' items goes, as this was my first order with BoxLunch. However I would confidently say, "Stay away from their preorders". Also, I'm in agreement with previous reviews, BoxLunch's customer service is atrocious. read more

Recognized the familiar name and logo from their website. I didn't know they had an actual store until I came across it at the spectrum. This place is really cool! Exclusive variety of unique novelty items, pop culture tees, collectibles and tons of other things to absolutely nerd out about. After one visit I can say this is probably my new favorite novelty shop. Also gotta admire their "giving back" business model which helps feed the needy. What else about this place is not to love?? The store was neatly organized, items were in sections including Disney, Harry Potter, superheroes, Pop figures, 90s Nickolodeon cartoons, and other cool things. Clearance section in the back corner. The staff was excited to share their mutual interest in Rick & Morty with us. I was really fascinated by a lot of their merchandise, especially in the Rick & Morty section because nearly everything I saw was something I've never seen in other novelty/pop culture shops that had items from the same shows. Their pop figure selection was also impressive, containing lots of seemingly rare figures (aka main characters instead of the usual side characters that are easy to find elsewhere). Overall spent a good amount of time not only browsing but enjoying every thing this neat little shop had to offer. Glad to hear they're possibly opening up a location closer to home. Ordered a set of drinking glasses thinking they were shot glasses. The description said they were machine washable. When I realized they were 9 oz rocks glasses, I was told they couldn't (wouldn't) cancel an order beyond ONE HOUR of purchasing them, this is without saying they hadn't even processed the purchase. The glasses shipped out 3 DAYS later. Not only did I not want these and called in plenty of time to cancel, but when they got to my house, the back of the box says "hand wash only // do not use in microwave or dishwasher" Never. Again. I came here to buy a birthday present for my friend. She likes Steven Universe and luckily I found their only Steven Universe item here. It was an adorable t-shirt. It was perfect for her and she loved it. I also found a shirt from one of my favorite anime's. Unfortunately I accidentally bought the wrong size. So I came back the next week because it was my Brother's birthday and we had lunch at Umami Burger at The Spectrum. I took my Brother and my Cousin here so I could return my shirt and they could pick out something they wanted. Before I returned my shirt I found the right size that I needed. My Brother found a bottle of matches he wanted. They looked pretty cool, kinda goth. My Cousin got a funny cat pin, which was so her. I returned my shirt and then bought the right sized shirt, matches and pin. The cashier said I could of exchanged my wrong sized shirt for the right size, but it was kinda too late. Oh well I got what I needed. The employee's here were really chill and helped me out. I'm also a member here so I get coupons and emails. I used a coupon that gave me $15 off when I bought $30 or more of stuff. It was a pretty good deal. I really love this store. It's perfect for gifts and just geeky fan stuff. read more

when I first found out about BoxLunch, very excited as I am a Ghibli fan. First order all mail delivery, no problem although the items arrived in separately but all came. 2nd Purchase multiple things again but only one was local store pick up; I wanted to test how reliable the local store pick up could be. The Mononoke shirt was stated as available and I chose it. All the mail delivery items came but the on-site pick-up up cancelled; farewell my Princess Mononoke! The funny thing I physically saw the same shirt with the exact size I ordered at the store before I made the online order. 3rd purchase all on-site pick up and I am testing this company how reliable is it. The phone app never showed the order completed even after 12 days (today). I used the Live-CHAT within the BoxLunch site. The chat started 3:45 pm EST and I have 3 questions. 1. why the Mononoke shirt was canceled 2. Third order took 12 days and has not yet been completed; then the Dragonball Z shirt is canceled; why? 3. when will all the items arrive at the store? By 5:10 pm only one question was resolved. Then I found out later in my email that the Totoro bowel arrived and because I did not pick it up within 5 days, canceled. The phone APP did not indicate anything about ready-to-pick-up. their IT team is terrible and wonder where BoxLunch hired the IT team from. If you sent out an email for item pick up but your APP sits still and nothing shows, what is the use of the phone APP??????????????? Al,so the items of one purchase arrived on a different day. So how many times does Boxlunch want be to drive to the store to pick up one item at a time? This is worse than Walmart or Target. And who will pay for my extra gas money? The agent gave me an excuse saying sometimes the item people selected is not available and Boxlunch has to cancel the order. This is 1997? What kind of software is BoxLunch using? The company has no idea of its inventory? Has the boss of BoxLunch ever seen a barcode before? Not to mention does he or she know how to use a barcode? This company has potential but if the boss is not awake its stoneage IT team is a shame. read more
