I came in early one morning for an oil change and to do whatever it needed to get my car ready for winter. I didn't have an appointment. New owners, Brian and Eddie, took me right away. I was told my car needed a few things, which I did not doubt. The work was explained to me in simple terms, and if I wanted it done, they could do the work then. Price was very affordable. After 30-45 minutes, I was on my way. My car has been running great. I couldn't find a mechanic in Arlington who could take me without an appointment in advance and a few required I leave my car for the whole day. I'm a happy customer and will be back. Wow! What an incredibly rude attendant was working the evening of 2018-12-30. I was driving past around 5:30 PM, needed some gas, saw the lights in the station were off but could see an attendant was inside the station and the pumps were lit, so I thought I'd pull in just to check if they were open since this was right on my way and it's a quick turn off Mass Ave. The attendant, a young scruffy guy comes barreling out before I can get both feet out of the car and yells at me "Yo! What makes you think we are open! Why would you even think that!". I barely respond - just said "no need to be rude", jumped back in my car and drove off. Went across the street to fill up at Arlington Global Service Station where a young lady attendant was very friendly and got a nice tip. I have almost never used Yelp for bad reviews, but tonight certainly merits one. I'll stay away from this station from now on. I thought the station manager or the franchise owner might want to know about the bad apple employed here. read more

When I sold my car to a neighbor, I recommended Mass Ave BP and he thanks me as much for the recommendation of mechanic as much as for selling him a well-maintained car. I have been going to Mass Ave BP for nearly 20 years (since it was the Mass Ave Getty), and Elias (current owner) is great and so are the mechanics who work for him. * Really, it is a pity that these 5-star mechanics are hidden behind 1-star gripes about gas pumping. If you need your car fixed, I'd encourage you to skip the how-they-pump-gas questions, and focus on the great majority of 5-star mechanics reviews. Because of a broken tail light cover (thank you, leaning tree in driveway) in 6/2019, I went to BP on impulse to see how to pass my 2019 vehicle inspection. Within minutes, Elias ordered the Honda Civic 2013 part & the next day his competent assistant installed it ( like brand new!) & successfully inspected my car. As the parent of a young woman, I recommend BP for car inspection by them because I was there when Elias calmly & gently told a very young woman why her car did not pass state inspection & exactly what part needed replacement & how to obtain the part & pass. On Sunday, July 21, my husband and I visited the BP gas station at 295 Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington, Massachusetts to fill our gas tank. I suggested to my husband that we go to a different gas station because of the poor treatment I experienced this past winter when I had gone to the station to get a windshield wiper replaced. Since this gas station was convenient we went there anyway. Arlington is one of a few towns in Massachusetts that allows only full serve gas stations. Therefore, my husband gave the attendant his credit card and asked that the tank be filled. The attendant returned when the tank was filled and asked my husband for payment. My husband explained that he had already given the attendant the credit card. This then set off the attendant who proceeded to accuse my husband of not giving him the credit card. We offered suggestions as to where he might have left the credit card (on top of the pump which he did not understand, in the office, etc). Then both my husband and I got out of our car and began searching the gas station while the attendant stormed around insisting that he did not have my husband's credit card. This went on for about 20 minutes. The attendant all but accused us of trying to steal $40 of gas to fill our tank. The attendant then said, "Well maybe I gave the card to the other man who was getting gas." I said, "Why would you suggest that unless you did it?" I then asked for the other customer's receipt. My husband and I were able to match the last four numbers on the other customer's receipt to my husband's card. The attendant had charged over $98 of gas to my husband's card for the other customer, and then gave that customer my husband's card. My husband and I solved this despite the attendant denying all of this. Of course the card had to be cancelled, which has caused a tremendous inconvenience as this is our primary credit card which has numerous recurring charges that must be reset. Although we were told that the owner would contact us to rectify the situation, we have had no contact. We in fact called the owner at the number we were given and left a message when we did not hear from him. One week later, we still have had no contact from him. We are appalled that this has happened without as little as an apology. It would be wise for you to select another gas station - do not bring your business here. read more

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! I moved to Mass a couple years ago and finally made the switch to Mass plates. So I took my car here to get my car inspected and they told me that my window tints needed to go. The guy told me he'd take the tints off for $50. I know I could have done it myself but I was about to get on a trip with my family to NY that weekend so I agreed. From what I could tell he did a good job, the tints were gone and the windows rolled down fine so I paid the money and got my state sticker. After driving off I decided to roll down my windows a few more times but something happened. My windows would only roll down halfway! It turned out that they did a shotty job removing the tints and a whole bunch of gunk was left on the windows (I couldn't see it before because it was still wet from the water used to remove the tints). I went back and explained what happened. They were apologetic and told me to use nail polish remover to get the rest of the gunk off myself. I argued that this was their fault but they would not do anything about it so I left. read more

This service station isn't the closest to my house (it's about two miles away), but I was sent here by my insurance company when I first moved to Massachusetts, and they've been awesome. The service is super-friendly, knowledgeable, and not sleazy-feeling at all. I didn't have to wait at all for an inspection on the 26th of the month, they were rooting for my car to pass (a '94 Volvo with 220000+ miles), and when my gas cap failed its part of the inspection, they gave me a gratis replacement. Update: I've had my car here for minor repairs twice in the past month (hey, it's got 220k miles, cut it some slack). Both times, the turn-around was very quick (next-day and same-day). The team at this BP are fast, personable, and fair. My wife had mainly dealt with them but gave a glowing recommendation. When I went in myself I wasn't sure what to expect. I had a slow-leaking front tire and walked in to the main office. The guys working in the shop asked me what I needed, I explained the situation, and they clapped their hands: "Easy! Give me the keys." A few minutes later they were spraying the tire down, efficiently searching for the problem. They located a small screw, removed, patched it, and sent me on my way for $15. I was in and out in under 15 minutes. A big problem with some auto repair places is a grumpy attitude, hemming or hawing about getting the job done, etc. These guys listen to what you need, and if possible, jump to doing it the moment you come in. Great business, with a local home-town Arlington feel. I recommend giving them a shot! read more

This is my go-to station for gas and more importantly repairs. They are by far the cheapest and best service I have found for basic repairs, oil changes, inspections etc. super nice, not pushy and again, CHEAP! I have a problem getting flat tires over and over again -roofing nails over and over again- and while I am always trying to find cheap tires, these guys are always at least $20 less than everyone else. there is rarely any kind of wait and they do not pressure you to do this, and this needs work, and so on and so on. strait up good guys, especially for a chain station. Visit No. 1 Filled up my gas tank, it was busy so I got out the car to remove the pump. I was looked at as if I committed a crime Visit No. 2 735 in the morning, I have to get to work. ALL LIGHTS ARE ON, but no one is at the desk. I get out the car and attempt to fill up my own gas. Guy walks up and repeatedly says the same thing "We're not open yet, we're opening in a few" Me: what time are you opening? "we're not open..." Me: well can I pump my own gas? "We're not open..." Me: I would like to get gas. "We're not open..." Visit No. 3 810ish at night. ALL LIGHTS ARE ON. I pull up, someone is at the front desk. He then begins to shut down and says that the gas station is closed. I say you don't have to pump my gas, I can do it myself and you were just open. "I'm sorry but the pumps are closed" IDK if this is some New England cultural thing, having some one pump my gas doesn't improve my times, you're adding useless steps to just get gas. I'm going to pay for the gas then put it in my car. I'm not going to swing it around Zoolander style. If you're closed then don't have the lights on, if you're open then have a worker present. And what gas station closes at 8pm? In SC gas stations stay open until midnight or even later depending on the area. And even if the stop n' shop isn't open, you can still pump you're gas. read more

These guys are great. They are very honest, and always go the extra mile. They have been taking care of my Toyota Corolla for over five years. The mileage on the car is edging up to 100,000 miles and there are little things that go wrong from time to time. However, they always seem to get it fixed and running well for minimal expenses, and never try to sell me more than it needs. When I took it to the Toyota dealer for something that was covered by warranty, the dealer gave me a long list of things that they said needed to be done, costing thousands of dollars, but I showed the list to the guys at BP and they basically said, don't worry, you don't need all that. Today, I took it back there after Century Tire in Somerville blew me off about a mysterious shaking in the front end. They sold me my tires, so I took the car back there thinking it might be an alignment problem or something. But they basically told me the shaking was all in my imagination:-) Went out for a test drive this morning with the guy from BP and he immediately diagnosed it as a bubble in the front left tire. They are giving it another test now, and I'll be buying my tires through Mass Ave BP from now on. read more

I wish I could give this horrible place zero stars. So, I was there this Saturday (Oct 1, 2022) and went to get gas because there was a promotion on my uber app to get a discount. I was fumbling with my phone because I didn't know how to activate the promotion but gave the attendant my card and asked if he could wait a second. I eventually gave up and told him "$20 please" Now, his response was actually quite shocking. I wear a scarf so people don't automatically think that I'm Latina and speak Spanish but guess what? I am. He responded with "Come mierda y solo para $20" which roughly translates to "Eat sh*t and only for $20". This was around 6:35pm . Was so utterly disgusted by his racist misogynistic behavior that I will never return and will make sure to post everywhere so the people of Arlington know what kind of place this is towards females and religious minorities. I've enjoyed the service I get at Mass Ave BP. The last time I brought my car in was for an oil change and to take a look at the breaks, as they seemed to not be 100%. The guy took one look at the rear breaks, said they needed to be repaired, but the front ones were fine. Got it all done within 2-3 hours at a decent price. I called the cops bc he refused to give me my receipt after pumping gas and being exceptionally rude to me and aggressive. He has some SERIOUS ISSUES! Honestly I don't know how he stays in business. My husband called to reserve a pick up for the day and the first person he talked to began yelling at him when he asked basic questions. My husband told the man he didn't like the tone he was using, and the employee at this U-haul location proceeded to describe himself as "a retard who went to retard school." overall, we talked to two employees who were completely unprofessional and didn't care. As I approached the gas attended sitting outside on a chair I asked him politely if there was a rest room I can use and he and he stated that there is no rest room. Then I asked him about the two doors on the side of the building. He then stated that it was not a public restroom. I felt the discrimination and prejudice as soon as I spoke to him and by him lying reassured my feelings. I will not do business with them EVER!!!!! These guys are helpful and educated when it comes to fixing up my car. I came in with what I believed to be a slow leak in my tire. These guys jacked the car up and discovered that there were actually two nails in my tire, one in each of the front tires. I never would have discovered two nails! Great job BP staff! These guys are snakes in the grass, milking the Mass. State Automobile Inspection certification sticker to rip people off big bucks. I took my car for routine inspection. I had put less than 500 miles on it since last year (because I work from home). They told me I needed to replace the flex pipe or it would not pass inspection. Everything else passed. The manager called the mechanic over to look at it and the mechanic quoted $600.00 after barely even looking at it. It seemed he was following cues from the manager. I took the car to my local mechanic and he repaired the problem for $267.00. When I went back to get my inspection sticker from BP (which I had already paid for) they ignored me for 10 minutes when I first arrived. There was nobody else waiting. There was an employee standing around doing nothing who didn't even acknowledge my presense until I said something, and then he was flat out rude! This BP is one of those places where you can smell trouble a mile away. I recommend avoiding this place. They seem callous and greedy. I'm glad I have a good mechanic in Arlington. I have written separate reviews on him on yelp. I will not mention his name in the same article at these bad apples at BP. read more

The guy who works there yells over "this is a full service station so just be patient or you can give me a hard time and I'll call the cops". We simply pulled out of the gas station and went right across the street to global. One would think that with so much competition around you'd treat your customers with more respect. Their knowledge is minimal, but I think " trial and error" gets most things fixed. This was written by a colleague of mine and I was part of the "group" described below: I am not the type who often forwards on stories about business or politics, but I was part of a very scary experience in Arlington on Friday. Twice, I attempted to help a female friend and colleague pick up her car from a local mechanic. He would not release it, and intended to continue to work on a stuck power window despite her repeated pleas to let her pay her bill and pick up the car. In total, he kept the car two extra days and then attempted to charge her close to an additional $200 for work she had told him not to perform. The first time we attempted to pick it up, he became verbally and physically abusive to me. (I am fine, so please don't worry about me.) The second time, a group of 7 of us went together and he physically attacked a woman in our group who was trying to test the window. Arlington police had to be called to the scene. Additionally, another colleague stopped at the same station for gas several weeks ago and instructed the pump manager to put only $5 into the tank (all gas stations in Arlington are full serve). Instead, they filled the tank ($27--over his loud protests) and would not let him leave until he had called someone to bring the additional money. For safety reasons I would never want my mother, sister, friends, etc. using this station and feel strongly enough about the situation to send my concerns on to you. read more

Just had a great experience at Mass Ave Getty and wanted to spread the word. Glad to see the reviews already on here are pretty accurate. The first time I went here was for an annual inspection in October 2008, and the experience was painless. No wait around noon on a Saturday at the end of the month, plus the service was quick and friendly. I remember having a pleasant conversation with the guy who did the inspection. Today, I needed my car's battery replaced, and these guys jumped right on it when I pulled up at about 4:45 when they otherwise would have been closing up shop -- which is great because they told me the battery was about to explode! I asked a few questions to make sure it couldn't have been another problem, but it was clear that this guy was giving it to me straight. I've been assured by friends & family that the cost was fair, as I believed myself. Christian said it well: "The service is super-friendly, knowledgeable, and not sleazy-feeling at all." Love these guys and can't wait to go back for my inspection sticker later this month. How funny is that? read more

Avoid this place except for regular inspections or oil changes ! The main guy there, Eli, professes to know everything and thinks he is the master of all car mechanics. If you visit his garage, you will feel like he is the prime minister....talking to everyone and appearing supremely busy. But in reality he knows very little about cars. I went there with a car shaking problem. He diagnosed it wrongly as a spark plug/battery issue (it was the ignition coils as I later found out) and replaced all of them for 400 bucks, but as soon as I drove out of the garage the car not only started shaking again but my dashboard also stopped working. He pulled some wire somewhere...who knows!! When I took it back, Mr. Eli the-be-all-and-end-all-of-all-car-mechanics was of course supremely confident and said something else must be wrong, then fooled around with the web and asked me to bring back the car so he can pull out the entire dashboard. Now way jose! Before this, on another occasion, I had the misfortune of giving my car to this monkey to fix a tie rod. The moron confidently said you dont need a 4 wheel alignment after tie rod replacement whereas the local mineke guy said it absolutely is necessary. The result? after a month my tires start showing horrible wear and had to get another tie rod replacement + alignment somewhere else. After giving it much thought I didnt want this monkey to damage my car further, so never went back to this place. On the positive side, Eli sounsd very friendly and I don't think he intentionally will rip off any one. They are also good for oil changes. The only problem is that he just doesnt know enough about cars but has a very high opinion of himself! . (On one occasion I recall going to him to ask about the shaking issue. He paid little attention but was proudly showing off his new car, as if to say" look what I can do, I am too busy for lowly problems like yours") read more

I had been an Arlington Global customer for years until I was overcharged by them for a Front Axle Brake job! After Elias hired a top-notch mechanic the service is fantastic. Had the Global been fairer with his pricing, he could have retained me as a customer and gotten the work the BP mechanic completed which was around $ 950.00. Every time I went to Global I had to beg to get my repairs done within a week. At BP usually within 1 day and a lot cheaper. Why go anywhere else? Send anyone from the Arlington area to Elias and Donnie and they too can save money, time and aggravation from going to rip-off artists at Global! read more

My go to repair shop over the last 4.5 years. Tony usually runs the counter and does oil changes and stickers and is a great guy. They recently hired a genius mechanic, Donnie, and got rid of one that was not good that they had as a fill in for someone that left. Now that Donnie is in charge of the bays I feel comfortable bringing my car here and getting it fixed right. I had a problem that multiple mechanics could not figure out and Donnie was able to figure it out and fix it. My '99 camry is running smooth as ever. Their prices are very fair and they try to keep everything within reason. Tell them Aaron with the old green beat up Camry sent you and you should get treated well! read more

This place used to be called Mass Ave Getty. Different name now but same mechanics. I have brought many different cars over the years to have them service here and never had an issue. They might take longer than other people but that doesn't bother me. Back in 2006, I had a 98 Crown Victoria that was making a lot of squeaking noises because the lower ball joints were out of grease. A different mechanic I went to far away from here, suggested to replace both lower ball joints, tie rods and tie ends, the whole nine yards, etc. At the time I was a college student so money was an issue. I brought my car here and Steve the mechanic, saved some $$$. My lower ball joints were sealed so Steve, tapped into it to pump grease it. A cheap fix but it worked fine for me at the time. My brother brought his car here which had some electric problems and they did some type of cheap fix. Great if you were strap for cash. I had a 2003 Honda Accord serviced here for brakes which was expensive for me considering I was used to all the cheap fixes, but I don't want corners cut when it comes to brakes. So if you don't mind cheap fixes, this is the place to visit. read more

Be VERY WARY of taking a car to the Mass Ave. BP if you suspect you might have a major mechanical problem. After reading all the positive reviews online, I took my Honda in to have a check engine light issue investigated, and they said I just needed a "tune up". They replaced my spark plugs and changed the oil, and $320 later I drove off thinking all was well. The engine was running very rough (which had never been the case before) and the check engine light persisted to come on throughout the next week (and I went back each time, and each time the owner said it just needed a computer reprogram). I finally had to ask that they look again at the engine. At this point, they finally decided to use a diagnostic computer, which diagnosed a completely different issue from spark plugs. When I asked why they had not used the computer diagnosis tool during the first go around (BEFORE they charged me $300 for repairs unrelated to the issue I was actually having) the owner responded that he was trying to save me money by giving me a "cheap fix". Frankly, I would have preferred knowing what was actually wrong with my car!! Additionally, when I was attempting to understand why everything had suddenly gone SO WRONG with my car while it was in their care, the owner informed me that he did not actually need my business (as if I was accusing them of creating more work for them to do) because they were very busy already. Well, okay then, so noted. I took my car elsewhere. P.S. When I took my car elsewhere, it turned out the problem was neither of the things Mass Ave BP "diagnosed". read more

Wow. Two gentleman from BP came to help out my neighbor with a flat tire who was having trouble. They arrived quickly, were incredibly kind and friendly, got the flat tire off and replaced it with the spare in no time, then smiled and were on their way and wouldn't accept any payment.
