He came out, spent a few minutes assessing, and told me straight up that low pressure is endemic to our neighborhood--no plumbing work can or should be done. Meanwhile, some of my neighbors had been sold replacement filters and various "fixes" by other plumbers for the same unfixable problem. The second time, we lost hot water. He responded to my call within minutes and asked me to text photos of the water heater. He diagnosed it via text, told me the fix, and I handled it myself. They've got you over a barrel when they come out and start throwing parts. This was an install of a drop in kitchen sink and faucet. He told me his hourly rate was 135 bucks. I was expecting to spend about 400 maybe 500. The final bill was 850. I feel I was overcharged on both the parts and labor. He charged me starting 45 min before he got there but still included a "truck charge." The removal and replace of the sink took 2 hours. To me the "clock" starts on the labor at the agreed upon arrival time. When I'm getting charged 439(!) bucks for parts on top of the sink and faucet itself, that extra charge for labor is quite unwelcome. I mean the sink and faucet itself that were "nice" were like 500 bucks. So almost that again just in parts. ‍ His answer in general as I look at these reviews is that he buys his parts from a plumber supply not Home Depot etc. I would have to research each individual part to see if its price point is "fair". A perusal of solid brass fittings and pvc p traps on the Lowe's site shows the price I paid was about doubled. He acted quite insulted that I wouldn't know just how much better his parts were and implied they were all but unavailable at big box stores. literally doubling what I expected to pay was quite a shock to say the least. Home Fires, Co2 poisoning and busted water pipes have caused lost of life and properties over the years. He noticed that the vent on our water heater had disconnected, and was venting carbon monoxide into our home!!! He jumped up and reconnected and secured the vent. Then he went and checked the downstairs water heater and showed me that the last plumber that replaced that water heater made a short cut with that vent and had it going to the outside wall instead of the proper vent pipe that goes to the roof.
