Well, if you didn't have a hangover going in, the noise factor of the dining rooms will surely give you one. Service was acceptable, but of our table of five, two of the orders were mixed up in one way or another and had to be sent back. The food was OK, with a large selection, BUT, the toast was cold, not buttered, and no butter on the table. When we asked the waitress for some butter, she brought out some directly from the freezer. Pretty much didn't like it. Not coming back. Got the chicken fried steak and eggs. Took forever. Bad sevice, never got my drinks refilled after nearly 45 minutes. Brails serves Korean food, but they're most known as a breakfast joint. Open from 7 am to 3 pm daily they serve omelets, scrambles, pancakes, waffles, french toast, a whole slew of "meat and egg" plates--ham, sausage, bacon, chicken-fried steak. Hashbrowns, homefries, surprisingly not bad coffee, sandwiches. The food is relatively inexpensive, and good and greasy. Good for hangovers. The most remarkable thing about Brails, though, is its warm atmosphere. Spacious and well-lit, it exudes hominess. The clientele is an eclectic mix of college kids and townies, young and old, fancy and plain. Men in suits eat biscuits and gravy next to scruffy undergrads in sweatpants and UO sweatshirts. I like Brails. All around, this is a reasonable joint. The consistency here is like none other. I know what I can expect every time I walk in the door: decent food, expedient service and a well-groomed atmosphere. I wish there weren't so many campus kids in here, because they usually ruin my dining experience, but that is outside of my control. I just can't stand looking at them when I am trying to have a peaceful breakfast and I can't bear listening to their babble while I am trying to talk to my tablemates. They really detract from what could be a sweet old-timey atmosphere. Nothing spectacularly creative going on here, just some simple diner food. I like it that way. This is one of only two breakfast places my best friend have found we're fans of in the Eugene area thus far. It's ALWAYS busy, especially on weekends because it has been voted "Best Hangover Food" for several years in a row now, so you want to get in early or a prepare to have a wait. Their food is classic, diner-style breakfast food, but quality every time. The best part of it is the hashbrowns. For whatever reason, they're just great. Crunchy, well-made, and just everything you want in some classic hashbrowns. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get and there are tons of options. I've got the veggie benedict and the waffle sampler, which are both great. The place is huge with a very casual, open ambience. Once me and my best friend accidentally came in when they were closing thinking they had an extra hour and they let us eat there anyway. SO nice! Great customer service! Voted Best Hangover Breakfast in town for a reason! If you want good food, fast service and a smile from the owner Joy, this is the place to be. If you are a regular, they get to know your breakfast and just simply ask if you want coffee. They've recently added an evening shift to their hours. I hear they've got wine and beer in a bottle, no tap. Nonetheless, you could get a rockin' burger or the noodle bowl and kick back with a drink now. Nice! Brail's is a solid choice for a breakfast option, but you really have to take it for what it is. On a given Saturday or Sunday, you can expect it to be packed after 10am with hungover college students, myself included. When you first walk in, the seating is very limited and it is somewhat confusing to figure out what you're supposed to do. You need to get on the host's list, so find that on the counter and sign your group in. Then, feel free to wait outside to get away from the cramped crowd waiting to be seated. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the food is good for what you pay. The owner, in particular, is incredibly sweet and accommodating. She will usually swing by your table and make sure you're doing alright. Still, due to the sheer business of Brails, it can be easy to get lost in translation. Lots of seating in this place!! The first thing that jumped out at me about this place was the fact that you can get espresso drinks to go along with your breakfast. I have only been to one other place that had this option. I like it! The friendliness of the staff also stood out to me. At the end of our meal which was amazing, a man who I assumed was a regular was struggling to walk out of the building. Two employees came in either side to escort the gentleman out to his car. I'm really surprised this spot doesn't have more reviews! This too is my favorite joint in town, not only because they are in my neighborhood but they have the best espresso and knowledgeable staff in town. Not pretentious like some other "wanderers", they usually have an eclectic music playlist over the cafe with plenty of seating indoors and out. I have gotten a less than ideal shot sometimes but these are anomalies at best. My only hesitation in keeping them from 5 stars is there edible selection. I do enjoy that they source local pastries daily, but there's not much of a selection and they could really enhance their offerings with some vegan treats or other options besides fruit muffins. I suppose one could visit the restaurant for more substantial offerings but I like the cafe way too much to go and sit down for my morning jolt. Keep it up Brails, you are my jam! read more

I went here based on a recommendation from a friend. She told me "this is the place of choice for breakfast in Eugene". We went on a cold winter morning and I think it was just as cold inside as it was outside. However, the service was good and the food was fine....just fine. I cannot say I walked out thinking I had just eaten the most amazing food. I had the spanish omlette and fruit with hashbrowns. And, it was....fine. This place served its purpose. The Hashbrowns really are no joke. I was sharing a beer at a table and got to talking with a stranger. Turned out he was a chef at Brails for a while. He said they used an oil specifically made to cook Hashbrowns in. Regardless of the oil used, the portion is right and the quality of the potato true. Brails is a place where you won't get burned flexing the menu. Everything I've tried showed their dedication to making quality food for the genre. Pretty much a greasy spoon that prides itself on country gravy & onions. Just about every item on the breakfast menu comes with both. Skip the bagel & cream cheese but my omlette and hash browns were very good. The gravy really is quite good. Some of the items can be somewhat tasteless and the price is slightly high for the quality. The food can also be quite greasy so avoid this place if you are having any thoughts of your health. The food is good dinner food and as long as you are expecting dinner breakfast when you come, you will leave happy. I had a pretty gnarly hangover this morning, and I had never been to Brails and have lived in Eugene for a year and a half now, and was long over due for this place! First of all, the owner Joy is so sweet! She's very friendly and caring to her customers. She greets each group individually and comes to your table to check on you. What I like about this place the most is that its not ageist. The people serving the college kids don't treat them like their invisible, worthless customers but rather they treat them them as equals and the prices are extremely reasonable. The food was pretty great. It was very filling and definitely kicked my hangover out the door. It's a classic, hearty, American breakfast which is nice because it adds some more diversity to Eugene's breakfast selection rather than just having a low protein, under nourishing vegan breakfast. Very speedy and prompt service ! I ate here with my wife for breakfast and we were in kind of a hurry. it was very busy and i was worried that we wouldn't have time to enjoy our meal but the waiter came over to us almost immediately and got our beverage order. He returned moments later and asked us if we were ready to order and we were. I ordered the Loco Moco, which is a traditional hawaiian dish and i was skeptical whether or not they would prepare it correctly . The meal came very quickly and to my surprise the dish was cooked to perfection! We were in and out within 40 minutes , which was amazing considering how busy they were ! The only negative thing i would say is that the service is very un-personal. The waiter or waitress comes right up and says " are you ready to order?" On the one hand it is very nice to get quick service, but on the other hand its nice to feel special or to feel like the server shows interest. There was no conversation, just a simple " what can i get you" and " can i get you anything else". I hadn't been to Brails before, but my husband had, and he feels like the Korean food he's had here in the past was so much better than our brunch, which was not at all bad, but simply unremarkable. Pros: - Pigs in blankets: Salty breakfast sausages rolled in big, fluffy pancakes. Served with hot syrup and butter. Cons: - Forgot our cutlery, took me a while to hail someone to get some. - Iced tea is bland So-so: - Cinnamon Roll. Wasn't bad, but didn't blow me away. Could be more gooey with more frosting. - Service was fine, but nothing to write home about. I guess they were all busy, so there was a lot of running around. I felt pretty rushed ordering. Overall: I liked the pigs in blankets which were a lot better and larger than at that international pancake place on Franklin, but the rest was just fine, not that memorable really. These folks bust ass here, and by that I mean they run a very busy, popular restaurant without many hiccups. The food is delicious and consistent. No frills diner food, but not overly anything. On weekends with a group of three or more you can expect to wait a bit for a table, totally worth it. But..if your just two topping it, or solo, dont be afraid to sit at the counter. I'm rating Brail's high because I have yet to find a better neighborhood breakfast restaurant. The service is always good, the food also has remained consistent, and the prices fair. I have been sending them business for years but recently feel very bad about doing so since those referred folks came back saying it was nasty. The most recent visit, which will probably be our last at Brail's, was for late breakfast, not lunch time yet. The restaurant did not have very many patrons at the time but it took very long for everything; ordering, waiting for coffee, etc. Wait staff were not friendly or attentive which is a change for this place. Real service and not hipster bs ensures success. The food was straight-up gross. The bacon was grey, limp, and looked like it had been sitting in grease after being cooked. The eggs were ok. The toast and hash-browns were soaked in butter or oil. I like "greasy-spoon" breakfast places but not with literally that much grease. They can proudly hang that "Best Hangover Breakfast" sign in their window because it is oh so true. Spent nearly 2 hours here. Service was slow and congested throughout the entire process. For being deemed the "best hangover food in Eugene" the atmosphere was anything but, super noisy to the point where you could hardly hear yourself think. I had ordered the hangover cure with over easy eggs and without bringing the food out they informed me they overdid the eggs and would have to make a new set, when the food came it was luke warm at best. The half order of biscuit and gravy was so dry that I didn't even finish it, the only saving grace was the eggs that they redid. The time we spent waiting to be served was not worth the end result. The service was friendly and attentive. The food came promptly. I found the food to be priced fairly for the portion sizes. I ordered The Old Fashioned Reuben. I am a Reuben snob. All the proper ingredients were there, but meh. The rye bread was too thin. The corned beef was bland, but I did like that it was chopped up really good. The sauerkraut didn't quite have the tanginess that I like. The fries were awesome. My boyfriend had the Small Breakfast. The scrambled egg was bland and diced up so much that he couldn't pick it up with a fork. Hash browns were burnt and greasy. Bacon and toast were fine. We went to the newer Brail's on 5th. It was horrible! My husband got the steak and eggs cooked medium. The stake was very rare. My son got an omelet and when he cut into it the egg ran every where. I got a skillet and the potatoes were cold and tasted old. I've eaten at the other Brail's and it was ok but the one on 5th isn't even eatable. read more
