Piment Rouge with a coconut chutney

Amazing new vegan bakery and cafe. Well, specifically focaccia. Splendid environment with a community table, plenty of sunlight and amazing offerings Best playlist in the neighborhood as I strolled in for their soft opening hours. Once they settle in hours of operation will be expanded. Really just came for a coffee because I figured the focaccia would have eggs.. I asked because the sample options looked so tasty and come to find out the entire spot is plant-based (my vibe senses are now tingling for two checks off my list). I didn't get any special coffee cause I was actually killing time while doing a laundry run, but I will be back for more. The bread itself was really heavenly. I tried the Piment Rouge. Light and fluffy, great flavor profile with the savory tomato and salt was hitting the spot. I have to try the pbj option when I come back next time. Variety of unique drinks besides just coffee which I appreciate. I can tell the team really put a lot of love and care into the menu. Even though it only has a few options they really crafted something special in each decision. I'm the kind of person that goes to a spot for the same specific thing so to me that's awesome. Female and bipoc owned, have to give it up to the team for setting the space up beautifully as well. Always loved this storefront and to date this is the best layout I've seen. Hope the Franklin Avenue gods favor this spot and they get to crank out many focaccias in the future. I will certainly be back enjoying the sunlight and a tasty vegan bite! Congrats again and welcome to the neighborhood

I hate to share this rating because I love to support my neighborhood small businesses, but sadly the food and drink disappointed me. For drink, ube latte was almost $11 which shocked me. Guess I could've read the menu better but I think the latte itself was $7 and foam apparently is +$2.5 even though it's a super thin layer and part of the drink?? And then I asked for a milk recommendation which was another +$.75 that I wasn't aware of. And the latte itself was meh :( which makes it all the sadder. Same story for the focaccia, I got the katsu one and it was pretty small and sooooo expensive. Not much filling in there for the price. I do love the energy in here and the owners book collection, but sadly I won't be coming back

Very friendly staff! Came in on a Saturday afternoon and was warmly welcomed, taken though the menu, and given firm recommendations.

The burger was fresh, juicy, and not greasy at all just really well made. The tater tots were crispy and delicious without feeling oily, which I really appreciated. The atmosphere was just as good as the food comfy, relaxed, and full of a really nice vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your time. On top of that, the service was amazing. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I'd go back to!

And I gotta say, the bartender is doing work. He's the only one working and the whole place is filled up and he manages it very well. They have food and drinks, mocktails included. I love it here. It's very cozy and homey. But just remember to be courteous, that this is a business so it's okay to do work here but if you're gonna be chilling for a while make sure you're getting some drinks every hour or tipping the 'tender. Also careful with some of the hot drinks they can be really.... hot. I burnt the roof of my tongue on my hot cider drink.

They should've called it the Goldilocks crossaint because it was just right. I should've gotten the 2% or oat milk so I could taste the hojicha better - don't do whole milk like I did! The butter croissant is truly the perfect example of a well done croissant. Light, buttery, crispy, and flaky. Every bite was fantastic. My next favorite is the black sesame pinwheel. Everything I love about a croissant except now with black sesame cream, which was sooo rich, luscious and not too sweet! The blueberry danish was a summer special, layered with fresh and sweet blueberries. The pistachio pain suisse was filled with nutty pistachio and the layers were super crispy and covered with syrup. This pastry is on the heavier end. Lastly, the matcha danish is the one I was most excited to try as a matcha lover. I was a little thrown off by the layer of chocolate beneath the matcha. But as I continued to eat it, the matcha ended up overpowering it, which is a plus to me! Staff here are friendly and always ready to recommend goods or to chat about your day. Paloma has a solid roster of pastries and they always have seasonal offerings too.

It provides the perfect setting for Barzakh Cafe, a social club/gathering spot of sorts for the pan-Maghreb community across New York. We came for the couscous celebration on July 4th. The owner is Mauritanian, and the couscous reminded me of the ones I've eaten in the northern reaches of Senegal, with tender potatoes, carrots, and cabbage. I had been hoping for something closer to kosksi, but the dish was enjoyable nonetheless. We sat outside in the casually-laid out backyard while hearing songs blending French and Maghrebian Arabic emanating from inside. Barzakh also hosts events from outside the region, including qawwali nights and the like. It is a rare unique space in the neighborhood.
