Principal Gerry Born is the best principal ever! Very attentive and very engaging with both teachers, students and parents. The teachers are spectacular! They really care about educating the children. They make sure they make it a fun environment, so the children feel at ease. Making it easier for them to learn new information. This school seems very advanced and up to date with their teachings and their technology. Since attending this school, I've noticed my child is a bit more advanced on the academic side compared to her other peers that go to regular in person public schools. Nothing against public schools, this school just works out for us as a family. This school uses real life scenarios in their quarterly projects. For example, they need to research about their dream vacation and how much it cost in real time and create a budget, etc. Surprisingly, as parents, after realizing her dream vacation was definitely more doable budget wise, we were able to actually take her on that dream vacation in less than a year's time. It not only teaches the students, but every assignment and project teaches us as parents as well. We highly recommend this charter school.

Whether it has to do with education or healthcare (both of which were significantly better in Orange County). I enrolled my child at Shenker after talking to all the parents I would meet at the park in my neighborhood who would sing the school's praises. I am happy to say, Shenker lived up to my expectations. My child does not speak English as his primary language, and I was worried about how that would affect him. Also if I might add, I would get unsolicited comments from other educators concerning my refusal to speak English to my child at home. I am an educator ( I have a Masters in education and another Masters in school counseling) and I knew he would pick up English just as I did. Upon meeting with Dr. Sharon, he agreed with my approach concerning my son learning two languages, and put me at ease. My son has greatly improved academically and socially at Shenker. He is so happy to go to school, and everyone in the front office knows his name, as they do with ALL the students that attend their school. Dr. Sharon has truly been a joy to work with, and I see how much he cares for his staff and for his students at school. He knows every student's name and he works with every family to accommodate their needs. I honestly believe this school's success comes from the top down. The class was organized, communicative, and I felt so at ease knowing my baby was in their hands. Now he is in the Ducklings with Ms Alyssa and I can't say enough positive things about her and her teaching style. My son has learned so much going to this school even though he has only just turned two, he is counting past 10, reading letters, coming home with new learnings every day. My middle school-age daughter really enjoyed going, and we loved the small class sizes. She went her entire 6th-grade year with no issues. I was the President of the PTO and spent hours of my own time and hundreds of dollars to support the school. This year, she had a few minor issues related to her autism and tic disorder come up that were completely blown out of proportion, and within a month she ended up being kicked out. She was not a bully and not violent. They did very little to work with her, and when we requested supports and accommodations they were refused. We have a pending discrimination case open with the state of Nevada and will be filing a complaint with the Nevada Department of Education. We are devastated with how this was handled. Though they claim to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all students, this was not the case with us and it has happened to other families as well. Be wary of this school!

8/27/2025: Daycare called claiming my daughter had mucus…read more When picked up, she had no symptoms. No mention was made of needing a doctor's note. 8/28/2025: She attended with no issues. 8/29/2025: Staff said she could not return without a doctor's note for: "Rash all over" (actually mild eczema) "Green mucus" (never observed, no proof provided) They also claimed they had told my husband she couldn't return, which he denies. She only had clear nasal discharge. Due to scheduling/cost, I couldn't get a doctor that day, so she stayed home. 8/31/2025: Virtual visit with NowClinic (Theresa Hilton-Berger, APRN). Diagnosis: eczema, likely allergies, no green mucus, cleared to return. 9/2/2025: I provided the doctor's note. Staff were rude, falsely claimed I slammed the door. Later, I was called again and told she had dark green mucus and could not return without an in-person doctor's note -- rejecting the licensed provider's virtual clearance. The director also claimed: My husband was previously informed (he denies). She had photo evidence of mucus (never shown). Meanwhile, the director herself was visibly sick at work. I took my daughter to urgent care -- doctor again confirmed no green mucus, only mild eczema. 9/3/2025: Daycare called CPS on me despite both doctors clearing her. The director is also now requesting a self-harm evaluation. While I signed the paperwork, I have serious concerns, as my daughter's mild past behaviors have resolved and are only being reported at daycare -- never at home. My son previously attended with no issues, but under new management we've faced poor communication, contradictory statements, and what feels like unfair treatment toward my daughter. I'm deeply concerned about the classroom environment. Note: I would not recommend this daycare under the current leadership! They used to be my favorite when Gina was there.

After a few weeks, his teacher raised a minor behavioral concern, which I addressed immediately. Throughout, the staff reassured me he was improving. Without warning or any prior discussion with me, the director expelled him, effective immediately. This was a grave breach of ethics. I was not able, at that time, to respond, as I was simply trying to survive. If I were in the position I am today, I would have pursued legal action. I now share this to caution other parents: this school's policies and ethics do not prioritize the best interests of their students and can cause real harm.
